• yum update works but yum --security update fails to work in Fedora 12

But I don't know why it keeps reporting the http error 416. I searched in google and found the following description of the error but it doesn't seem to help much. HTTP ERROR 416 - Requested Range Not Satisfiable A 416 status code indicates that the server was unable to fulfill the request. This may be, for example, because the client asked for the 800th-900th bytes of a document, but the document was only 200 bytes long. It suggests me to use the --skip-broken option, I tried and the output is the same. I already tested many times, it just doesn't work when the --security option is used. What could be the possible cause for this problem?

• Svn log - svn: '.' is not a working copy

  I'm getting "svn: '.' is not a working copy" when i use the svn log command. I know that i need a working copy for the log command to work but can this be done directly on a repository? My goal is to display the information (change history) of a repository. I think updating the working copy whenever i need the log information is not a good solution. Is there an alternative solution to this or updating a working copy every time i need to log is the only way to go? Thanks in advance.

• 'Generic' ViewModel

  Using EF 4, I have several subtypes of a 'Business' entity (customers, suppliers, haulage companies etc). They DO need to be subtypes. I am building a general viewmodel which calls into a service from which a generic repository is accessed. As I have 4 subtypes, it would be good to have a 'generic' viewmodel used for all of these. Problem is of course is that I have to call a specific type into my generic repository, for example: BusinessToRetrieve = _repository .LoadEntity<Customer>(o => o.CustomerID == customerID); It would be good to be able to call <SomethingElse>, somethingElse being one or other of the subtypes), otherwise I shall have to create 4 near identical viemodels, which seems a waste of course! The subtype entity name is available to the viewmodel but I've been unable to figure out how to make the above call convert this into a type. An issue with achieving what I want is that presumably the lambda expression being passed in wouldn't be able to resolve on a 'generic' call ?

• Databind Parent/Child relation with Mysql

  What is the best way to databind parent/child relations? Lets say I have two simple objects: Parent with the following properties, ParentId, Name and Childs and Child with the following properties, ChildId, Name and Parent. I want to write a repository using MySql for this but is failing when I bind both Childs and Parent properties, I have only been able to bind either the Childs property of parent or the Parent property och Child or else I would get a infinite loop. Thinking of it the preferable solution would be to only bind this properties when requested. If I use Linq to sql i would be able to write Parent.Childs[0].Parent.Name but how should I accomplish this with my own repository and with MySql, could anyone point me in the right direction? Looking at the Linq 2 sql generated classes they use EntitySet<Child and EntityRef<Parent could this be used with Mysql? I had a thought of using my IChildRepository in the Parent object and let the Public IEnumerable Childs databind the childs but it seems not right? Best regards E2k

  Hi there, I first apologize for my poor english level and maybe for the stupidity of my question ;) I am on an alfresco project to learn how it works. I have to browse programatically my content repository and gather datas all along. In order to do that I guessed I had to use a ContentReader (I get from my ContentService) but the method getReader wants a nodeRef and a propertyQualifiedName. I am ok with the nodeRef, I get what it's needed for. But the propertyQualifiedName puzzles me, I barely get what it is but I frankly don't get how it is used. Reading some alfresco forum threads I get more and more scared that I dont even get how a reader works, I somewhere saw that a reader can read only one node and only one time per instance. If anyone knows a bit about the Java API for Alfresco Content Repository use I am all hears ! Cheers all !

• How to setup Xcode 3.1.4 with Perforce ?

  Hi everyone, I've been trying to setup Xcode with Perforce for about 7 hours now and managed to get the Perforce Repository Authenticated within Xcode. The problem I have is, within the repositories window, I don't see any directories for me to check out. I can see the p4root login and client are ok with the tick on the repository log. When I try to Import an xcode project directory within the Perforce root directory- the import fails with '/Users/jackson/p4root/alpha/MessageTapper' is not under the Perforce root. I have p4d running on the local machine, and have created a user and workspace. The workspace has the directories in view. I'm hoping for someone to give me some direction or maybe point me to a good reference to how to set perforce up with xcode. Thanks!

• Maven and db4o dependency

  I'm intrigued to test new frameworks in the Java world, and decided to create a new project that takes advantage of Maven and db4o. I'm starting to get a hang of Maven, but I have a hard time adding db4o as a dependency to the project. First problem is that db4o doesn't exist in the official Maven repositories. Next up comes the problem that db4o seem to have recently restructured their whole site's URI:s, so I'm getting 'site not found' messages all the time when I try to navigate their site. I found somewhere a potential Maven repository that should be at https://source.db4o.com/maven but I get all the time "Error reading archetype catalog https://source.db4o.com/maven Unable to locate resource in repository" when I try to access it. So, any suggestions on how I'll get db4o up through Maven? I've managing Maven through Eclipse with the M2Eclipse plugin.

• SVN update returns nothing, while it should

  Hi everyone, First some background information; I've set up my SVN repository on my local server at home using VisualSVN Server. Using SSH on (or via php/shell script), i am able to check out a folder from this repository to the webserver, all goes well. Also updates and other svn commands execute normaly and return their messages. Now comes the problem, and I'm struggling with this for a few days now. Before I execute the checkout command *svn co http://server_home/folder*, I want to make sure no conflicts are going to happen, so I execute *svn status [folder_on_webserver]*. But this doesn't return the result as expected, it returns nothing. When I execute * svn status --show-updates [folder_on_webserver]* it returns the following: * newfolder * 13 anotherfolder * 13 yetanotherfolder * 13 . Status against revision: 16 As you can see it misses the svn codes (A,U,D). Does somebody knows why the svn update command and the svn codes doesnt work?

For instance, suppose I would have the class... class Employee IEmployeeRepository { Add(Employee employee); } This works fine, nothing wrong with it so far... but now let's say I continue on.. class Manager : Employee Okay, now let's assume that I never need to enter a manager different than an Employee? What's the best approach here? Would a scenario such as ..   We have multiple websites under different domains that need to receive our banner ads. We have a server app, in PHP, that returns the HTML for a randomly-generated banner ad. Out of concern for the client side, I don't want to use an iframe nor do I want to include the jquery library because of the weight - I also do not want to duplicate code across all the domains. Any other way to do this? Maybe there is a way to do this with mod rewrite or a web service? Anyone solve a similar problem? Thanks

  I have the following directory structure in the CMS application we have written: /application /modules /cms /filemanager /block /pages /sitemap /youtube /rss /skin /backend /default /css /js /images /frontend /default /css /js /images Application contains code specific to the current CMS implementation, i.e code for this specific cms. Modules contain reusable portions of code that we share across projects, such as libraries to work with youtube or rss feeds. We include these as git submodules, so that we can update the module in any website and push the changes back across all other projects. It makes it really easy to apply a change to our code and distribute it. We wanted to turn the CMS into a module so we get the same benefit - we can run the entire project under source control, then update the cms as required through a git-submodule. We have run into a problem however: the cms requires javascript/images/css in order for it to work correctly. Things we have thought about: We could create 2 submodules, one for cms-skin and one for cms, but this means you cannot "git pull" one version without having some idea of which versions of skin work with which versions of cms. i.e version 1.2.2 CMS might have issues with 1.0.3 CMS-Skin We could add the skin to the cms module but this has the following problems: Skin should be available on the document root, module code shouldn't be, and if it is it should probably be secured via .htaccess It doesn't seem to make any sense bundling assets with php code We could create a symlink between /skin/backend/ to go to /modules/cms/skin but does this cause any security problems, and do we want to require something like a symlink for the application to work? We could create a hook for git or a shell script that copies files from modules/cms/skin to skin/backend when an update occurs, but this means we lose the ability to edit CMS core files in a project then push them back How is this typically done in large scale cms's? How is it possible to get the source code for a cms under version control, work on the application for a client, then update the sourcecode as releases and given by the vendor? How do applications like Magento or Drupal do this?

While adding a new .git path following writable= in gitosis.conf I managed to insert a few line breaks. • Can I version dotfiles within a project without merging their history into the main line?

  I'm sure this title is fairly obscure. I'm wondering if there is some way in git to tell it that you want a certain file to use different versions of a file when moving between branches, but to overall be .gitignored from the repository. Here's my scenario: I've got a Flash Builder project (for a Flex app) that I control with git. Flex apps in Flash Builder projects create three files: .actionScriptProperties, .flexProperties, and .project. These files contain lots of local file system references (source folders, output folders, etc.), so naturally we .gitignore them from our repo. Today, I wanted to use a new library in my project, so I made a separate git branch called lib, removed the old version of the library and put in the new one. Unfortunately, this Flex library information gets stored in one of those three dot files (not sure which offhand). So when I had to switch back to the first branch (master) earlier, I was getting compile errors because master was now linked to the new library (which basically negated why I made lib in the first place). So I'm wondering if there's any way for me to continue to .gitignore these files (so my other developers don't get them), but tell git that I want it to use some kind of local "branch version" so I can locally use different versions of the files for different branches.

  I have one computer running Ubuntu 10.04, and is running Vino, the default VNC server. I have a second Windows box which is running a VNC client, but does not have any X11 capabilities. I am ssh'd into the Ubuntu host from the Windows host, but I forgot to enable VNC access on the Ubuntu host. On the Ubuntu host, is there a way for me to enable VNC connections from the Ubuntu commandline? Update: As @koanhead says below, there is no man page for vino (e.g. man -k vino and info vino return nothing), and vino --help doesn't show any help).

• Make my git user and apache user have read/write/delete access

  I am having permission problems on my server. I use user developer to pull my git repository on the server. Then apache uses its own apache user to do write and execute code. I always have the problems when the app wants to write something in the directory (i.e: log files, and cache ...) if I execute a cron job and it uses my developer rights and wants to add something to the folders that is written by apache. My question is how to have my developer have the same write/delete access as my apache and avoid permission conflicts with each other? I am not fluent on linux command so, it would help if you could provide links or simply examples of doing so. thanks.

• Can I use Ubuntu One to sync data fiies between two remote computers

  I've got two computers, both running Ubuntu with files in their home folders sync'd in to Ubuntu One. I'd like to know if it's possible to make Ubuntu One automatically download data changes that have been uploaded automatically to Ubuntu One from one computer to the equivalent data file in the other. Clarifying a bit further, I've installed Red Notebook in both computers and so they each have their own /.rednotebook/data folder containing a series of .txt files corresponding to the monthly entries in each of them. These are sync'd to upload any changes to those .txt files to Ubuntu One. My question is can I, and if so how, do I make Ubuntu One automatically download and replace those .txt files in the other computer after they've been updated and uploaded from the first computer? I did labouriously manage to download all those text files which had been uploaded from the first computer, from Ubuntu One one-by-one to the second computer, but what I want to do is automate this process and that's where I'm stuck. I'm aware that things could get a bit complicated if both my computers were on-line at the same time and both were simultaneously making different Red Notebook entries, so that's not the scenario I'm trying to cover. All I want to achieve is that whatever updates to the files have been uploaded by one computer, will automatically be downloaded to the same-named files in the other computer as soon as that second computer appears on line and detects that Ubuntu One has matching but more recent sync'd files than the ones it's holding.

  Summary: I want to be able to monitor the computers on my network, but don't need it to be automated. We're too small to purchase anything like MOM, but too big to do anything manually (~100 machines in two locations). I just keep running into issues, and was wondering if there's a master list of Group Policy settings I can distribute to my environment to get Remote Powershell working. Environment: Our AD network is pretty mixed. The end users have XP SP3, Win 7, and Win 7 x64. The servers include Win2k3 SP2, Win2k8, Win2k8 x64, Win2k8 R2, and Win2k8 R2 x64. Details: I'm trying to get it to work with Remote Powershell, but I run into errors like the following: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Default authentication may be used with an IP address under the following conditions: the transport is HTTPS or the destination is in the TrustedHosts list, and explicit credentials are provided. Use winrm.cmd to configure TrustedHosts. Note that computers in the TrustedHosts list might not be authenticated. For more information on how to set TrustedHosts run the following command: winrm help config. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. + CategoryInfo : OpenError: (:) [], PSRemotingTransportException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PSSessionStateBroken Then I go to the computer (Win2k3 SP2 server) and run winrm quickconfig per the recommendations via google, and it says: Make these changes [y/n]? y WinRM has been updated to receive requests. WinRM service started. WSManFault Message = The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for the WS-Management service running on the destination, most commonly IIS or WinRM. If the destination is the WinRM service, run the following command on the destination to analyze and configure the WinRM service: "winrm quickconfig". Error number: -2144108526 0x80338012 The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for the WS-Management service running on the destination, most commonly IIS or WinRM. If the destination is the WinRM service, run the following command on the destination to analyze and configure the WinRM service: "winrm quickconfig". That's right. It tells me to remedy my winrm quickconfig failure by running winrm quickconfig. I don't want to band-aid this project one google search at a time. I'm sure there is a step-by-step tutorial out there on how to set up a network for powershell remote administration. Does anyone know of one? Books are acceptable. Thanks in advance! • Read/Select:Connection reset by peer (10054) during remote logoff in RealVNC

  I am using RealVNC 4.5 Enterprise on my Windows 7 client. I use this to connect to a remote system which is also running RealVNC 4.5 (on Windows 7 again). And then i logoff the remote system (server) and all of a sudden the realvnc viewer on the client closes with the message : "Read/Select:Connection reset by peer (10054)" It also asks if i want to reconnect again. Any idea why this is happening and how do i resolve this?
