  hi all, I'm trying to write an application that checks if there is an active internet connection. If so it reads an xml and checks every 'lastupdated' item ( php generated string ). It compares it to the database items and if there is a new value, this particular item needs to be updated. My code seems to work ( compiles, no error messages, no failures, .. ) but I notice that the particular property does not change, it becomese (null). When I output the binded string value it returns the correct string value I want to update into the db.. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? const char *sql = "update myTable Set last_updated=? • How to speed up a slow UPDATE query

  I have the following UPDATE query: UPDATE Indexer.Pages SET LastError=NULL where LastError is not null; Right now, this query takes about 93 minutes to complete. I'd like to find ways to make this a bit faster. The Indexer.Pages table has around 506,000 rows, and about 490,000 of them contain a value for LastError, so I doubt I can take advantage of any indexes here. The table (when uncompressed) has about 46 gigs of data in it, however the majority of that data is in a text field called html. I believe simply loading and unloading that many pages is causing the slowdown. One idea would be to make a new table with just the Id and the html field, and keep Indexer.Pages as small as possible. However, testing this theory would be a decent amount of work since I actually don't have the hard disk space to create a copy of the table. I'd have to copy it over to another machine, drop the table, then copy the data back which would probably take all evening. Ideas? I'm using Postgres 9.0.0. • Redirect after refreshing update panel

  Hello, Do you think it's possible to refresh an update panel and immediately after redirecting the response (for instance a download) ? I tried this: an invisible button - as an asyncpostbacktrigger a download button - when it is clicked the onclientclick clicks the invisible button the click event on the invisible button refreshes the update panel then the download button click event launches the download (normal postback which launches the download) However for some reason when the invisible button is clicked by the download button client script, it doesn't refresh the update panel.. Do you have an idea why it doesn't work? Or do you have other and cleaner techniques? • NHibernate / ORM - Child Update over Web Service

  What is the correct way to UPDATE a child object with NHibernate but not have to "awake" the parent object. Lets say you would like to try to avoid this because the parent object is large or expensive to initiate. Lets assume classes are called Author(parent) and Book(child). (still, trying to avoid instantiating Author) Book comes back over a web service as XML. It gets deserialized back into a CLR object. Book has an AuthorId property which allows this to happen. But it also has a Author property. Problem, comes when you try to SaveOrUpdate() Book and the author_id in the database gets wiped out because the Author was null when the object gets deserialized. This seems like this would be a common problem. What is the workaround? Also, if you instantiate the Author and it has a Books property. The book you are trying to update is already one of these books (List<Book>). We have also run into the "a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session" problems. What is the standard process to update a child over a web service?

• Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 update breaks SSL

  Summary After updating from 10.7.1 to 10.7.2, neither Safari nor Google Chrome can load GMail. Spinning Beachballs all around. The problem isn't GMail; Firefox loads GMail just fine. The problem isn't limited to Safari or Google Chrome; Other applications also have trouble with SSL: Gilgamesh and Safari. Any program that uses WebKit (Google Chrome, Safari) or a Cocoa library (Gilgamesh) to access the Internet has trouble loading secure sites. The various forums online suggest a handful of fixes, none of which work. Analysis Fix #1: Open Keychain Access.app and delete the Unknown certificate. The 10.7.2 update also prevents Keychain Access from loading. The Keychain program itself Spinning Beachballs. Fix #2: Delete ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain and /Library/Keychains/System.keychain. This temporarily resolves the issue, and lets you load secure sites, but a minute or two after rebooting or hibernating somehow magically undoes the fix, so you have to delete these files over and over. Fix #3: Delete ~/Library/Application\ Support/Mob* and /Library/Application\ Support/Mob*. There is a rumor that the new MobileMe/iCloud service ubd is causing the issue. This fix does not resolve the issue. Fix #4: Open Keychain Access, open the Preferences, and disable OCSP and CRL. This fix does not resolve the issue. Fix #5: Use the 10.7.0 - 10.7.2 combo installer, rather than the 10.7.1 - 10.7.2 installer. When I run the combo installer, it stays forever at the "Validating Packages..." screen. The combo installer itself is bugged to He||. I force-quit the installer, ran "sudo killall installd" to force-quit the background installer process, and reran the combo installer. Same problem: it stalls at "Validing Packages..." Recap The only fix that works is deleting the keychains, but you have to do this every time you reboot or wake from hibernate. There is some evidence that ubd continually corrupts the keychain files, but the suggested ubd fix of deleting ~/Library/Application\ Support/Mob* and /Library/Application\ Support/Mob* does not resolve this issue. Evidently, something is corrupting the keychain over and over and over. Also posted on the Apple Support Communities.

• A Windows Update Prevented Live Discs From Working?

  First off I'll state my system specs. Acer Aspire M1100 Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit OEM 2 Gigs of DDR2 ram 160Gig hard drive 2.7Ghz AMD Athlon 64 processor ATI Radeon X1250 Graphics card A few days ago my computer did automatic updates and updated windows defender to KB915597 (Definition 1.135.415.0), After which when shutting down and starting up I would receive BSOD with the information BUGCODE_USE_DRIVER and 0x000000FE (0x00000008, 0x00000006, 0x00000006, 0x877330000) upon where my computer would not start up with any USB devices plugged in and it always require me to run startup repair before it started. Upon when I first started it up and was able to fully boot windows, I had no use of the mouse so I was unable to install the fix that the windows solutions center brought up on my screen, so I restarted again and installed the fix hoping it would cease the problem, it did not. Upoon starting up after installing the fix and restarting I was confronted with the BSOD 0x000000FE (0x00000008, 0x00000006, 0x00000006, 0x83291000) at which I found the startup repair could not fix the problem and I restored, as I most like should have in the first place. After going through that I read that simply installing the latest defender version from the microsoft site had fixed this problem for others, so I did that, to find I still received the BSOD's. So in a attempt to find a fix to the problem I went to the microsoft answers site to try to find a way to fix the problem, there I was told to simply disable defender and reboot to see if that fixed the problem, upon doing this my computer would no longer even startup, when I boot normally I get to just when the loading screen finishes and then my computer restarts and when I run startup repair, it runs for about 15 seconds and then my computer restarts as well. I have tried running ubuntu live discs in order to simply access the drive and simply copy and paste the 2 month old physical backup I have of my C drive to the C drive, but whenever I run the live OS when it gets to the end of the load screen and is about to boot, the computer again restarts, yet if I put in a gparted disc, I am able to boot it fully, although it does not give me access to the file system just partition managing and when I attempt to access the internet through it, the computer once again restarts. So my question is, how could the update and what has happened prevent me from running the live OS's properly?

• Run javascript after form submission in update panel?

  This is driving me crazy! I have read at least 5 questions on here closely related to my problem, and probably 5 or so more pages just from googling. I just don't get it. I am trying to have a jqueryui dialog come up after a user fills out a form saying 'registration submitted' and then redirecting to another page, but I cannot for the life of me get any javascript to work, not even a single alert. Putting that same code in a script tag inside the updatePanel. Tried to use RegisterClientScriptBlock and RegisterStartUpScript Just doing a Response.Write with the script tag written in it. Tried various combinations of putting the entire jquery.dialog code in the registerstartup script, or just trying to change the autoOpen property, or just calling "open" on it. I can't even get a simple alert to work with any of these, so I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what it is. Here is what I know: The Jquery is binding properly even on async postbacks, because the div container that is the dialog box is always invisible, I saw a similiar post on here stating that was causing an issue, this isn't the case here. Using page_load instead of document.ready since that is supposed to run on both async and normal postbacks, so that isn't the issue. The update panel is updating correctly because <p>Did register Pass? <%= registrationComplete %></p> updates to true after I submit the form. So how can I make this work? All I want is - click submit button inside an update panel - run server side code to validate form and insert into db - if everything succeeded, have that jquery (modal) dialog pop up saying hey it worked.

• Update UI from an event with a thread

  Im working on a small application to try out an idea that I have. The idea is to periodically update the UI when event of some sort occurs. In the demo I've created, I'm updating a ProgressDialog every 2 seconds for 15 turns. The problem I am having, which I don't quite understand is that when an event is handled, I send a message to the handler which is supposed to update the message in the ProgressDialog. When this happens however, I get an exception which states that I can't update the UI from that thread.   I've tried to resolve this myself and have looked through Google and Stack but haven't found the answer I'm looking for. Currently on a VPS server I have BIND DNS installed as a MASTER DNS Server. I use Zerigo's DNS service as SLAVE servers for public use: The Master doesn't receive queries - It's job is to simply create and modify DNS entries locally of which the SLAVE use to serve. However the problem is the other way; the MASTER is not updating the SLAVE servers when reload is run (on the MASTER); it is a batch on a 15 minute timer. You will notice that 'allow-transfer' is set explicitly on each DNS zone.   Hello all! I have a Java / Spring MVC 3 application, using Hibernate and a MySQL database. The new Person is added, but on the line with this.projectService.updateProject(project); I get an error. What it does it this in a Dao Hibernate implementation: public void updateProject(Project p) { SessionFactory sessionFactory = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory(); Session sess = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); Transaction tx = sess.beginTransaction(); sess.update(p); tx.commit(); } It failed on the line tx.commit();. • SCCM 2012 unable to update boot images with pxe enabled

  we are fighting an error in sccm 2012. When we attempt to distribute boot images (after selecting the pxe option) we receive an error that the pxe image cannot be expanded (distmgr log). Can you give us any direction on what to try or attempt in this scenario? We only have one dp in our environment at the moment, however we have found that by creating another dp on a different server we don’t have this problem. However we really need the primary site to be a dp. We have tried: Removing and reinstalling the dp Removing and reinstalling the WDS Reinstalled the OS ... ouch Reinstalled SQL We even attempted to manually mount these wims in the remote install folder, no luck... • Windows 8 power-shell "update-help" is failing. Does anyone know how to fix it?

  Windows 8 includes PowerShell out of the box, but not the help. To get the help you run PowerShell as administrator and type "update-help". I get this error: > update-help update-help : Failed to update Help for the module(s) 'BitLocker, NetWNV' with UI culture(s) {en-US} : The value of the HelpInfoUri key in the module manifest must resolve to a container or root URL on a website where the help files are stored. The HelpInfoUri 'http://technet.microsoft.com/library/cc732148.aspx' does not resolve to a container. At line:1 char:1 + update-help + ~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [Update-Help], Exception + FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvalidHelpInfoUri,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.UpdateHelpCommand Can anyone tell me how I fix this or if it's not important? I'm guessing that if I don't need help on NetWNV or BitLocker, that this is the only thing wrong?

• RIA Services EntitySet does not support 'Edit' opperation

  Hello everbody! Making my first steps in RIA Services (VS2010Beta2) and i encountered this problem: created an EF Model (no POCOs), generic repository on top of it and a RIA Service(hosted in an ASP.NET MVC application) and tryed to get data from within the ASP.NET MVC application: worked well. Next step: Silverlight client. Got a reference to the RIAService (through its context), queried for all the records of the repository and got them into the SL application as well (using this code sample): private ObservableCollection<Culture> _cultures = new ObservableCollection<Culture>(); public ObservableCollection<Culture> cultures { get { return _cultures; } set { _cultures = value; RaisePropertyChanged("cultures"); } } .... //Get cultures EntityQuery<Culture> queryCultures = from cu in dsCtxt.GetAllCulturesQuery() select cu; loCultures = dsCtxt.Load(queryCultures); loCultures.Completed += new EventHandler(lo_Completed); .... void loAnyCulture_Completed(object sender, EventArgs e) { ObservableCollection<Culture> temp= new ObservableCollection<Culture>loAnyCulture.Entities); AnyCulture = temp[0]; } The problem is this: whenever i try to edit some data of a record (in this example the first record) i get this error: This EntitySet of type 'Culture' does not support the 'Edit' operation. I thought that i did something weird and tryed to create an object of type Culture and assign a value to it: it worked well! What am i missing? Do i have to declare an EntitySet? Do i have to mark it? Do i have to...what? Thanks in advance
