  • Getting level values from PCM raw data using Core Audio

    I am trying to extract level data from a PCM audio file using core audio. I have gotten as far as (I believe) getting the raw data into a byte array (UInt8) but it is 16 bit PCM data and I am having trouble reading the data out. The input is from the iPhone microphone, which I have set as: [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:kAudioFormatLinearPCM] forKey:AVFormatIDKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithFloat:44100.0] forKey:AVSampleRateKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:1] forKey:AVNumberOfChannelsKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:16] forKey:AVLinearPCMBitDepthKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsBigEndianKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsFloatKey]; which is obviously 16 bits. I am then trying to just print out a few values to see if they look reasonable for debug purposes below, and they do not look reasonable (many 0's).   • Rails 3 MySQL 2 reports an error in what looks to be valid SQL syntax

    I am trying to use the following bit of code to help in seeding my database. I need to add data continually over development and do not want to have to completely reseed data every time I add something new to the seeds.rb file. AddSetting('general', 'page_title', '', '') AddSetting('general', 'tag_line', '', '') This function is included in the db/seeds.rb file. Is this the right way to do this? However I am getting the following error when I try to run it through rake. rake aborted! In fact my code generates the SQL and I pass that to the find_by_sql function for the model, Rails itself can't be changing the SQL, or is it?   • How to run a command on a remote Windows system as a non-admin user with WMI?

    I have a script written in Visual Basic that starts a process (given to the script as an argument) on a remote system (again, given as an argument) using WMI. This script works fine when using an Administrator account on the remote system, but when using a non-administrator account, I get the following error: ConnectServer Failed w/ (-2147024891) Access is denied. I'd like to be able to run processes on remote systems as a non-administrator user with this script, and I'm pretty sure the problem is due to security settings on the remote system, but I've not been able to reset the right ones.

    Just wondering if this is the way to specify the order to run a handler (AuthorizationHandler) before all others? public void SpecifyOrder(Order order) { order.Specify(First<AuthorizationHandler>.Then<IHandleMessages<IMessage>>()); } It just feels odd to add Then<IHandleMessages<IMessage>>(). Is there a nicer way of saying to the Bus execute x handler before all others?

  • Sys. engineer has decided to dynamically transform all XSLs into DLLs on website build process. DLL

    Hello, OS: Win XP. Here is my situation. I have a browser based application. It is "wrapped" in a Visual Basic application. Our "Systems Engineer Senior" has decided to spawn DLL files from all of our XSL pages (many of which have duplicate names) upon building a new instance of the website and have the active server pages (ASPX) use the DLL instead. This has created a "known issue" in which ~200 DLL naming conflicts occur and, thus, half of our application is broken. I think a solution to this problem is that, thankfully, we're generating the names of the DLLs and linking them up with our application dynamically. Therefore we can do something kludgy like generate a hash and append it to the end of the DLL file name when we build our website, then always reference the DLL that had some kind of random string / hash appended to its name. Aside from outright renaming the DLLs, is there another way to have multiple DLLs with the same name register for one application? I think the answer is "No, only between different applications using a special technique." Please confirm. Another question I have on my mind is whether this whole idea is a good practice -- converting our XSL pages (which we use in mass -- every time a response from our web app occurs) into DLL functions that call a "function" to do what the XSL page did via an active server page (ASPX), when we were before just sending an XML response to an XSL page via aspx.

  • Should we use Nexus or Artifactory for a Maven Repo?

    We are using Maven for a large build process ( 100 modules). We have been storing our external dependencies in source control, and using that to update a local repo. However, we are ready to graduate to a local repo that can cache central so that we don't have to proactively download all 3rd parties (but we can still have a local repo to pull from). In addition we want to publish our internal build artifacts from a nightly build so that developers don't have to build the world. We are considering Nexus and Artifactory. What are the reasons for preferring one over the other? Are there others we should be considering?

  • How can I view the all inherited url-resolution rules affecting a given directory?

    I work on two sites hosted on the same server, using the same CMS configurations and identical .htaccess files in their respective document roots. One site is letting me use the CMS's clean-url mode, and the other isn't. Site #2 functions fine in ?=messy-url mode, but when I turn clean urls on in the admin panel, and request a rewritten URL, I get a 404 error served before the CMS sees the request. I've contacted the server administrator, but he isn't inclined to provide support and the site owners are beholden to this hosting provider. I have shell access to the Linux-based server, and I can verify that mod_php and mod_rewrite are active, but I don't know what more I can do to troubleshoot this issue. Is there any way to identify directives upstream that may be differentiating the way http requests are handled by the two sites? Thanks!

  • What's a very easy C++ profiler (VC++)?

    I've used a few profilers in the past and never found them particularly easy. Maybe I picked bad ones, maybe I didn't really know what I was expecting! But I'd like to know if there are any 'standard' profilers which simply drop in and work? I don't believe I need massively fine-detailed reports, just to pick up major black-spots. Ease of use is more important to me at this point. It's VC++ 2008 we're using (I run standard edition personally). I don't suppose there are any tools in the IDE for this, I can't see any from looking at the main menus?

  • Flash relationship map

    Hi, Does anyone know any Flash fla's which are out there and free which do something similar to http://audiomap.tuneglue.net/ (you have to type in a search term to see it in action). What I'm after is the flash to create the node in the middle which expands out into children and then each of those children can be expanded out into more children, etc. while keeping their distance from one another so as to not overlap. I'd like it so that if you clicked on a node to expand it, it would shoot off to a web site and get an xml feed which could then be used to create the children. Thanks

  • MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

    Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?

  • Comma separated values in a database field

    I have a products table. Each row in that table corresponds to a single product and it's identified by a unique Id. Now each product can have multiple "codes" associated with that product. For example: Id | Code ---------------------- 0001 | IN,ON,ME,OH 0002 | ON,VI,AC,ZO 0003 | QA,PS,OO,ME What I'm trying to do is create a stored procedure so that I can pass in a codes like "ON,ME" and have it return every product that contains the "ON" or "ME" code. Since the codes are comma separated, I don't know how I can split those and search them. Is this possible using only TSQL? Edit: It's a mission critical table. I don't have the authority to change it.

  • Jquery conditionals, window locations, and viewdata. Oh my!

    I have one last thing left on a project and its a doozy. Not only is this my first web application, but its the first app i used Jquery, CSS and MVC. I have no idea on how to proceed with this. What i am trying to do is: In my controller, a waste item is validated, and based on the results one of these things can happen. The validation is completed, nothing bad happens, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to -9999. Its a new waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to 0. Its an existing waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to the id of the waste item. This ViewData["FailedWasteId"] is set on page load using <%=Html.Hidden("wFailId", int.Parse(ViewData["WasteFailID"].ToString()))%> When the validations do not pass, then the page zooms (by window.location) to an invisible div, opens the invisible div etc. Hopefully my intentions are clear with this poor attempt at jquery. The new waste div is and the existing item divs are dynamically generated (this i know works) " So my question here is... Help? I cant even get the data to parse correctly, nor can i even get the conditionals to work.   • PHP and storing stats

    Using PHP5 and the latest version of MySQL I want to be able to track impressions and clicks for business listings. My question is if I did this myself what would be the best method in storing it so I can run reports? Before I just had a table that had the listing id, user ip address and if it was a click or impression as well as the date it was tracked. However the database itself is approaching 2GB of data and its very slow, part of the problem is its a pretty simple script that includes impressions and clicks from anyone including search engines and basically anyone or anything that accesses the listing page. Is there an api or file out there that has an update to date list that can detect if the person viewing is a actually person and not a spider so I dont fill up the database with unneeded stats? Just looking for suggestions, do I just have a raw database that gets just the hits then a cron job at night tally up for the day for each listing for each ip and store the cumulative stats in a different table? Also what type of database should it be? Innodb? MyISAM?

  • visual studio qt5 plugins not working on release

    I'm got this project where i'm showing images with a qt5 interface, i'm simply setting the Pixmap of a label with the qimage pixmap The thing is, it's working on a debug build, but not on a release build and i dont understand why. I already got a folder in my .Exe folder named "plugins" and a subfolder in it named "imageformats", and in this folder the file named "qjpeg.dll" So i coming here to see if someone has an idea on why it doesn't work ?   • doxygen with IDL/ODL

    If you have a C++ project that has a bunch of .ODL files and the generated .h files from the ODL compiler, should doxygen be told to parse both .odl and .h, or only one or the other? In general I don't like documenting generated code but IDL is sort of a special case. In any case, it seems like the member listing of ODL files is not quite working properly in my tests, are ODL files properly parsed?

  • iPhone: InterfaceBuilder nibs disconnected from my project

    Since upgrading to XCode 3.2, InterfaceBuilder doesn't play nice. All of my image links are broken in IB but they'll show fine when I compile. When I go to the combo box to select an image for my UIImageView, it doesn't have the image files I've added to my app. I also can't create a new .nib and associate it with a class I've written. Like images, my custom viewcontrollers aren't available to pick from. I'm going to try a reinstall but I was curious if anyone's dealt with this?

  • Best way to use the same HTML on static web-pages

    If you use dynamic pages like JSP or asp.net, you can have your page template included, and then content added. But what if you have no server-side component and all pages are just HTML/JS? You can of course create a template then copy it for each page, but then if you want to change something you risk having to modify every page, even if you put most styling in CSS properly. Are there any non-awful ways to do this? I could see that an iframe could be used to load the content into the central page but that sounds nasty. Does HTML provide any way to include a base file and add to it?
