  I've created a database and a user, and allowed access via the following: create user 'someuser'@'%' identified by 'password'; grant all privileges on somedb.* to 'someuser' with grant option; however, when I try to connect to MySQL I get the following error: $ mysql -u someuser -p > Enter Password: > ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'someuser'@'localhost' (using password: YES) If "%" is the wildcard, then wouldn't it also enable localhost?

• Windows 7 VM log on lockout

  My Windows 7 XP Mode virtual machine has just locked me out of password log on. Two years of use and it never required I use a password on wake up, I never asked for that. Suddenly yesterday, password required! I located password and used it successfully a couple of times, but now even that is not good enough! Perhaps (unfairly) because I tried to get to the bottom of the new phenomenon and removed the password from the user accounts? Permissions are still set to ok for all users. I have been all the way through the settings I can access with the VM file hibernated, and have deleted the previously saved log on info, which always previously worked automatically as charged. Now when I attempt to log on it asks me for credentials, seems like progress, but when I offer them, and check the "remember my credentials" box, I still get the splash screen "The system could not log you on. [reminder about caps...]" !! Round and round. Back up and restore point versions of the VM toss me back into the same log on loop. There are no other machines on any network, I am the administrator and sole user. It must be specifically about the log on, a speck of dust corruption ... is there a way around this? I tried creating a new VM but the black inner box gets stuck at one point requesting I insert a boot disc. Thanks for input, AKa

• Cannot log-in in the install of phpmyadmin on Ubuntu

  I just installed phpmyadmin and i am trying to login in /phpmyadminpath/setup. I am greeted by an invite similar to an apache protected folder (log/password displayed in a browser pop-up, not an html popup) asking for login pass. I cannot login using system password(root) or mysql passsword(also root) I already have rails app using this mysql, and i checked the mysql password in the config files. I cannot run any mysql command in my console because of the following error : ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) What is wrong with phpmyadmin and mysql?

• Is it possible to allow saved passwords for remote desktop in a domain environment?

  I have checked the "remember password" and every single time, even if it connects correctly after I type a password and check the box, it does not allow subsequent logins using the stored password, saying that it is invalid - is it being saved improperly somehow? is it being disabled by some obscure setting somewhere? (which would be very counter-intuitive, seeing as how the check box is available). I have tried both with domain and non-domain (local) admin accounts, and am using the FQDN for the server. edit: as a troubleshooting step, where would one go to find the (hopefully hashed) password?

  I'm using http://www.hetzner.de/en/. They send me something like that: Your Hetzner-Server is now active. Thank you for choosing Hetzner Online as your Web Hosting partner. You can access your server immediately via SSH2, using following details: IP-Address: *.*.*.* Login: "login" Password: "password" So, I'm trying to connect to this server in this way: ssh login@*.*.*.* Then I input my password, but it gives an error "permission denied". Can anyone tel me why and how can I fix this?

• Can't access unprotected .pst file in Outlook 2010

  My father has a Windows 7 x64 system with 32-bit Outlook 2010. He asked me to access his archived mail to get to some old mail. When going to open the file I'm asked for a password (he never applied one) and I get a message saying "password is incorrect. Re-Type password". Since he told me that he never set a password I tried opening the .pst with Nucleus, a tool that allows me to view the .pst's. Does anyone know what the deal is? With the free version of Nucleus we can't view the attachments.

• Twitter Bootstrap modal spans, side-by-side divs and "control-group"?

  I'm trying my best to have a good looking modal login form but for some reasons it seems that no matter how I nest divs, I cannot obtain the proper shape. What I need is a big "lock" image side-by-side with a username/password form. The best I could do adds a horizontal scroller by the modal bottom and shows the input gadgets fairly distant from the image partly hidden on the right side of the modal canvas. Inspecting with FireBug it seems that the spans in row-fluid are ok but the "control-label" and "controls" class adds way too much space on the left by width (for the labels) and margin-left (for the controls). How would you solve it? Am I doing something wrong with divs and classes nesting? • iphone app: delegate not responding

  Hi guys.. So i'm very new to this iphone development stuff.... and i'm stuck. I'm building an app that connects to the twitter api. However when the connectionDidFinishLoading method gets called, it doesn't seem to recognise the delegate.   Problem: I'm trying to use a library named DCMTK which used some other external libraries ( zlib, libtiff, libpng, libxml2, libiconv ). I've downloaded these external libraries (*.LIB & *.h files ) from the same website. This happens when not all parts of your project and the libraries you link against are generated with the same code generation options in Visual C++. Do not use the /NODEFAULTLIB workaround, because strange software crashes may follow. Fix the problem! DCMTK is by default compiled with the "Multithreaded" or "Multithreaded Debug" code generation option (the latter for Debug mode). Either change the project settings of all of your code to use these code generation options, or change the code generation for all DCMTK modules and re-compile. MFC users beware: DCMTK should be compiled with "Multithreaded DLL" or "Multithreaded DLL Debug" settings if you want to link the libraries into an MFC application. Adjust the settings for all the projects to use the very same flavour of the library and the issue should go away Questions: Till now I used to think that Name mangling is the only problem that may cause linking failures if its not been standardized. Just now I knew there are other things also which can cause same effect. Whats up with the "Debug Mode" (Multi-Threaded Debug) and "Release Mode" (Multi-Threaded)? What exactly is happening under the hood? Why exactly this thing is causing linking error? I wonder if there is something called "Single-Threaded Debug" and "Single-Threaded" which again causes the same thing. Documentation talks something about "Code Generation Options". What Code Generation Options? WTH are they? Documentation specifically warns us not to use /NODEFAULTLIB workaround. (example /NODEFAULTLIB :msvcrt ). Why? How would I cause troubles? what exactly is it? Please explain the last point in the documentation for MFC users. Because I'm going to use MFC later in this project. Explain Why should we do it? What troubles would it cause if I don't. Anything more you'd like to mention? I mean regarding similar errors. I'm very interested in Linker & its problems. So, if there are any similar things you can mentions them or some keywords atleast.

  EDIT - Might be useful for someone in the future... Looking around the bcrypt class in php a little more, I think I understand what's going on, and why bcrypt is secure. In essence, I create a random blowfish salt, which contains the number of crypt rounds to perform during the encryption step, which is then hashed using the crypt() function in php. There is no need for me to store the salt I used in the database, because it's not directly needed to decrypt, and the only way to gain a password match to an email address (without knowing the salt values or number of rounds) would be to brute force plain text passwords against the hash stored in the database using the crypt() function to verify, which, if you've got a strong password, would just be more effort than it's worth for the user information i'm storing... I am currently working on a web project requiring user accounts. The application is CodeIgniter on the server side, so I am using Ion Auth as the authentication library. I have written an authentication system before, where I used 2 salts to secure the passwords. One was a server-wide salt which sat as an environment variable in the .htaccess file, and the other was a randomly generated salt which was created at user signup. I noticed that Ion only uses a single salt as part of its hashing mechanism (although does recommend that encryption_key is set in order to secure the database session.) The information that will be stored in my database is things like name, email address, location by country, some notes (which will be recommended that they do not contain sensitive information), and a link to a Facebook, Twitter or Flickr account. Based on this, i'm not convinced it's necessary for me to have an SSL connection on the secure pages of my site. My question is, is there a particular reason why only 1 salt is being used as part as the Ion Auth library? Is it implied that I write my own additional salting in front of the functionality it provides, or am I missing something? Furthermore, is it even worth using 2 salts, or once an attacker has the random salt and the hashed password, are all bets off anyway? (I assume not, but worth checking if i'm worrying about nothing...)

• FTP into a server using specific usernames

  I am trying to ftp into a server, once I'm there, I want to get a file, then put it back after sleeping for 5 minutes. I have that part correct, but i added to the code, two variables that will be inputted when the code is executed. The user will input the username they want to connect with. I am having trouble connecting though. • Mount SMB / AFP 13.10

  I cannot seem to get Ubuntu to mount a mac share via SMB or AFP. I've tried the following... AFP: apt-get install afpfs-ng-utils mount_afp afp://user:password@localip/share /mnt/share Error given: "Could not connect, never got a reponse to getstatus, Connection timed out". Which is odd as I can access the share just fine via Mac.   i have upgraded my ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. i could not see other login option in the login screen. it shows only Guest login and User login. The User Login ask only password and i had never entered in as User login so that i do not know about password of User login. my problem is how to login as root from the login screen? how can i get Other login option to login as root or some other user? before ask this question i have tried the following: try to add the greeter-show-manual-login=true line at the bottom of /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file as Guest login but i get access denied error. i do not know the password of User login (ask only password while login) to purpose of adding above line. from the safe mode login, i could login as root but i could not add the above line the lightdm.conf file . i got read only error so that i tried to change the permission to 777 like the following > chmod 777 lightdm.conf (i am within the /etc/lightdm/). but i got the error the file marked as/is read only in the file system. In 11.10 version i have created 4 users. i can see that the users exist in 12.10 . so i am sure my self users are not removed while upgrate. • Storing Entity Framework Entities in a Separate Assembly

  The Entity Framework has been valuable to me since it came out, because it provided a convenient and powerful way to model against my data source in a consistent way.  The first versions had some deficiencies that for me mostly fell in the category of the tight coupling between the model and its resulting object classes (entities). Version 4 of the Entity Framework pretty much solves this with the support of T4 templates that allow you to implement your entities as self-tracking entities, plain old CLR objects (POCO), et al.  Doing this involves either specifying a new code generation template or implementing them yourselves.  Visual Studio 2010 ships with a self-tracking entities template and a POCO template is available from the Extension Manager.  (Extension Manager is very nice but it's very easy to waste a bunch of time exploring add-ins.  You've been warned.) In a current project I wanted to use POCO; however, I didn't want my entities in the same assembly as the context classes.  It would be nice if this was automatic, but since it isn't here are the simple steps to move them.  These steps detail moving the entity classes and not the context.  The context can be moved in the same way, but I don't see a compelling reason to physically separate the context from my model. Turn off code generation for the template.  To do this set the Custom Tool property for the entity template file to an empty string (the entity template file will be named something like MyModel.tt). Expand the tree for the entity template file and delete all of its items.  These are the items that were automatically generated when you added the template. Create a project for your entities (if you haven't already). Add an existing item and browse to your entity template file, but add it as a link (do not add it directly).  Adding it as a link will allow the model and the template to stay in sync, but the code generation will occur in the new assembly.

• Login Screen returns to login screen

  After many many reboots in a couple days while experimenting with BIOS settings effecting the speed Hardbrake runs at, today I find after a reboot that I have to type in password to log in - ordinarily I have this disabled. When I DO enter my password, it goes to a black screen for a bit, then returns. I can log in as guest, which does the same thing (minus the password) and if I use the wrong password, it complains instead of doing the same. Using the install disc, I see three partitions on my drive, a ~200 MB boot sector, and two 32 GB (one extended) which seem to share the rest of the SSD. Running FSCK seems to generate tons of errors. The odd bits: All my background stuff is running - I can access stuff served by Subsonic, and see network shares from my windows machines. I can log in in another terminal and do stuff... I just can't get into the GUI/OS proper. Sort of at a loss where to start. Would be happy to free drive of errors if I could (I've another machine, I could mount drive over USB and check it), but it seems everything else is working? edit: Screensaver also seems to kick on, even from fsck's run from the boot menu. i3-2100t, H67 chipset I believe, 12.10, everything's been working fine for the better part of a year. Seen several similar topics, but either they turn out to be something unrelated (fresh install or known graphics issues) or there are no answers. I'm happy to get any logs/info anyone want.

  Quick basic points on Billing: In batch billing, there can be one and ONLY ONE bill for an Account, per Bill Cycle. If an Account has been already billed within the current Bill Cycle's window period, it will not be billed again and will be skipped by the Bill Segment generation program, part of batch eligibility check routine. If an Account does not have any Stopped Service Agreements and you attempt to generate a Bill for that Account that too for a period for which it was already billed, no Bill Segments are generated and a Pending Bill is created for that Account. If a Pending Bill exists for an Account and was generated from a batch, the Account will be re-billed in the next batch run. In contrast, if a Pending Bill exists for an Account and was generated online, the Account will be skipped in the next batch run of the Account's Bill Cycle. • Can't login to Guest Session or Standard Account?

  Thanks in advance for any help. Ubuntu 12.04 Up until recently my mother has been using the Guest Session when she logs on; now, the Guest Session will not login. When I try to login to it, it bounces me back to the login screen. I then tried to login on a Standard account (Alberta) which I made prior to not being able to login to Guest, and it turns out I cannot login - it gives the "Invalid Password" error. So then I tried to change her password from my own account (Rory) which is the master account. Under the Login Options where the Password option is, it says "Account disabled" and it will not let me change this; I try to apply a password, get no error, but it just still says "Account disabled". Then I tried to delete the Alberta account altogether, but got this error: I also tried sudo userdel -r Alberta but got this error: "userdel: cannot lock /etc/shadow; try again later." I don't know what to do now. Any help appreciated.
