    I downloaded skype from official site, but when installing I get this type of error (Reading database ... 100% (Reading database ... 150271 files and directories currently installed.)     I have a problem with my sound card. I don't have volume up or down option anywhere. In the setting -> Sound I don't have any card detected.     After running Ubuntu for months and liking it, I for the first time wanted to use headphones and was trying to get them to work so I ran the code in step 1 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure -- the result was an improvement in performance, resolution, and audio.. a vast improvement. What does that suggest about what was wrong with my settings before if running this improved system performance, graphics, and my audio problem?     I'm wondering if it is possible, that after a collection of rows is inserted, to initiate an operation that is executed asynchronously, is non-blocking, and doesn't need to inform the originator of the request - of the result. I am working with large amounts of events and I can guarantee that the post-insert logic will not fail -- I just want to have a single insert thread in my event-sources, and I want this thread to keep flying without blocking, and without being responsible for any post-delivery book-keeping. I can tell you that I would potentially have a 100 of these jobs executing concurrently and each job might operate on 5 tables with anywhere between 200-1000 inserts on each of these tables. A hint in the right direction should be enough.

    The sound on my machine (Medion Akoya S5610) works intermittently. If I reboot enough times I do get sound. This happened before I upgraded, when running Oneiric too. I have fiddled around with alsa-base.conf, putting in different values for model in options snd-hda-intel model=but still the issue persists (although I get the impression that I am more like to have sound on the next reboot if I have edited that file although I can't be sure of this). Adding index=0 does not help the situation either. I have been thinking that this problem could be related some how to the order that driver modules are loaded. The snd-hda-intel module is also used for the sound card (ALC888) in my graphics card. Could it be that these are some how competing? If so, how do I add a preference when they are using the same module?   • What is a good format for command line output when it is being used for further processing?

    I have written a console application in Delphi that queries information from several locations. This application will be launched by another process, and the output to STDOUT will be captured by the launching process. The information I am retrieving is to be interpreted by the calling application for reporting purposes. What is the best way to output this data to STDOUT so that it can be easily parsed? JSON? XML? CSV? The data, specifically, is remote workstation information, so it will pull things back like running processes, and details about each process. Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

    Hi all, I'm currently learning rails by creating a simple project management app. I've gotten to the point where I would like to be allow a user upload multiple files - pdfs, docs, xls etc. The user only needs to be able to attach one file at a time, but the possibilty to have multiple documents associated with a project is a must. I've spent quite a lot of time researching my options, and it appears the two main plugins are attachment_fu and paperclip. From what I've read though, these appear to concentrate specifically on the upload and subsequent resizing of images, something I couldn't care less about. Is there a simpler way to achieve what I'm trying? Thank you all in advance.

To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object?     I have been going through all of the different PayPal integration options and trying to decide which will be the best one for this particular application. I realized that I really want to give users a few options for payment. For example, it might be more convenient to enter their credit card information rather than being sent over to PayPal, or they may have already setup their Google Checkout and so want to use that. So that brings me fairly quickly to the realization that maybe I don't want to program one or two or three API integrations myself and I should look at some shopping cart software. However, we really don't need a whole shopping cart -- we will have a specific form and some other custom coding and the only part of the shopping cart we would really use would be the checkout page to handle accepting payment/integrating with PayPal/Google Checkout/Authorize.net. I like how simple eJunkie makes things and the fact that it accepts PayPal and Google Checkout and Authorize.net. The problem is that the Add To Cart buttons aren't going to cut it. I need to be able to programmatically enter items into the cart. Maybe I can just use an open source PHP shopping cart and skip the store front somehow.

    I'm making a data prosessing system, which currently is using csv-data as input and output form. In the future I might want to add support for example database-, xml-, etc. typed input and output forms. How should I desing my program so that it would be easy to add support for new type of data sources? Should simply make for example an abstract data class (which would contain the basic file prosessing methods) and then inherit this class for database, xml, etc. cases? Hope my question is clear =) In other words my question is: "How to desing a file prosessing system, which can be easily updated to accept input data from different sources (database, XML, Excel, etc.)".
