• Where can I find a proper JavaScript beautifier

  I have used http://jsbeautifier.org/ successfully using Rhino and ant, but the problem is that it is not deterministic. If you run the beautifier twice on a file the result is different from each time, e.g. each pass inserts additional array intendation on some lines. I have spent a lot of time debugging the code in beautify.js and have made some workarounds for comment handling, but the array indentation bug is annoying. Is there a correct and properly working JS code formatter anywhere that can be used as part of a source code indentation verification system? EDIT I have now tested with preserve-array-formating disabled, and it seems that it solves the problem. Too bad, since preserve-array-formating is quite useful with large array constructs.

• No route matches error with application_controller spec

  I have an application_controller spec that is failing since I removed the controller/action route from routes.rb. I get the following error: No route matches {:controller=>"application", :action=>"index"} I had many tests fail in the same way, but was able to fix them by including the correct parameters in the get call. So for instance, if I wanted to get the standard show route for posts in my spec, I had to change get :show to get :show, :id => '1' Unfortunately, I'm not sure now what to pass along for the application controller specs. • GWT on Python App Engine

  Hi, I have a python app engine code (matured backend) - and we are now planning to have a front end for that code. I was wondering whether it is possible to implement GWT as the front end. Even though Alex Martelli in this post [1] mentions it is not possible, a comment to that post suggests that it is indeed possible using rpc over json for GWT. I was unable to understand how this is possible. In app.yaml file, we have to specify the language to be python, right? In that case, how can it compile GWT based on JAVA? Are there any examples on anyone doing that? Can someone help me out? It would be extremely helpful. • How do you enable block folding for Python comments in TextMate?

  In TextMate 1.5.10 r1623, you get little arrows that allow you to fold method blocks: Unfortunately, if you have a multi-lined Python comment, it doesn't recognize it, so you can't fold it: def foo(): """ How do I fold these comments? """ print "bar" TextMate has this on their site on how to customize folding: http://manual.macromates.com/en/navigation_overview#customizing_foldings ...but I'm not skilled in regex enough to do anything about it. TextMate uses the Oniguruma regex API, and I'm using the default Python.tmbundle updated to the newest version via GetBundles. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? • I would like to useJava 7's FileVisitor to walk up a tree

  I have looked and searched for some guidance on how to start at a low point in a path and walk up (or 'back'), until I find a folder with the name I am searching for. The FileVisitor class looks like it ought to be able to help me, but it only seems to work from head to toe. Is there something that someone could point me to? • Java - Could not find the main class?

  I'm having a hard-time with a Java error. I'm getting this when double-clicking on my compiled project Jar file in order to run it: Could not find the main class: testPackage.testFrame. Program will exit. However, my main class is cleary defined in the project properties. Furthermore, everything works fine when I run the project directly from NetBeans. I'm using the ip2c.jar third-party library to determine countries from IP addresses. If I comment the class that is using the ip2c.jar file, I don't get the error. How can a third-party library be preventing the JVM from finding my main class?

  Hi, I am set to create a file explorer using Java. The aim is to emulate the behavior of the default explorer as closely as possible, whatever may be the underlying OS. I have done NO GUI programming in Java. I have looked-up Swing, SWT and JFace, and I am beginning my project with this tutorial: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-ecgui1/ I would like to know your opinions about the best approach to tackle this problem. • Moving from WCF RIA RC to Release: best practices?

  I have an existing WCF RIA project built on the Release Candidate; I'm now moving to the Release version & have discovered many changes. David Scruggs made the following comment on his (MSDN) blog: "If you’ve written anything in SIlverlight 4 RIA Services, you’ll need to rewrite it. There has been a lot of refactoring and namespace moves." Having made a brief attempt to compile the old solution with the new RIA framework I'm inclined to agree. My current plan is to: remove the Silverlight Business Application projects from the Solution rebuild the EF4 items from the database create a new Silverlight Business Application project re-add the files (XAML, CS) from the old Silverlight Business Application project Does this sound like a reasonable approach? I think it's cleaner than trying to manually alter the existing project.

• Drupal and Login Toboggan -- infinite redirect loop

  I'm getting a redirect loop when using Login Toboggan. It doesn't happen all of the time and I think I've narrowed it down to something with the session, specifically the active-tabs[last-active-href] value. Since it's intermittent, I was able to print out a session of a working copy and a non-working copy. Here are both: WORKS -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = index ) ) toboggan/denied DOESN'T WORK -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = user/register [user] = user/register ) [wantsEvents] = [wantsResources] = [wantsSupport] = ) toboggan/denied I've also noticed that if I comment out the following line the redirection loop stops (although no page loads): $return = menu_execute_active_handler('user/register'); Any ideas? I'm at my wits end.

• Java library to partially export a database while respecting referential integrity constraints

  My production database is several GB's uncompressed and it's getting to be a pain to download and run locally when trying to reproduce a bug or test a feature with real data. I would like to be able to select the specific records that interest me, then have the library figure out what other records are necessary to produce a dataset that respects the databases integrity constraints and finally print it out as a list of insert statements or dump that I can restore. For example: given Author, Blog and Comment tables when I select comments posted after a certain date I should get inserts for the Blog records the comments have foreign keys to and the Author records those Blogs have foreign keys to.

• Is it possible to use SWT on a Mac with Mac Java 1.6

  The official Eclipse site seems to indicate this is not possible: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=216051 which says: Apple is not supporting the 64-bit carbon API. SWT is written using carbon so it must be 32-bit. Apple won't support 32-bit JDK 1.6. Therefore SWT won't run on JDK 1.6 (along with any other Java program that had natives that made carbon calls). Nothing we can do here other than port to cocoa (which has been started but is still in the early stages). Is this still true? (This bug report comment is from over a year ago.) Is there no way to write an SWT app that I can distribute and will run on any Mac unless the user installs an old/Sun VM?

  Has anyone seen an editor/IDE that shows WYSIWYG comments inside the code? I have seen some that show the docs of an element in a separated tab/windows, but not together with code. For example, a JavaDoc comment would be much clearer and easier to edit if it had no tags and could be edited like a snippet from a normal text document. /** * Writes <code>Hello world!</code> to the <b>standard output</b>. * @seealso showGoodbye */ public static void showHello() { Could be something like this: /* Writes Hello world! to the standard output.   Hi everyone. I'd like to know, please, the correct way to write the symbols that the C family of languages use to begin and end comments. Before you all respond "a slash followed by an asterisk", I mean what's the correct way to write them on paper. (IE, How many points should the asterisk have? What angle should the slash be? etc) Everything I need so I can sit down and draw correct comment start and end symbols. Please note, I'm looking for the correct standard way. • Something wrong with this gtk# class for a window?

  Learning C#, I feel so guilty for loving it. I'm a microsoft hater. Anyways I'm trying out gtk# and just trying out some simple stuff. I've made a class for the main window and MonoDevelop is complaining about this code, which I swear was just fine a second ago. public class mwin{ protected Window win = new Window("test program--"); public mwin(){ //Configure the parts win.SetDefaultSize(300,500); } public void showWin(){ win.ShowAll(); } } win.SetDefaultSize(300,500); }--<(here it says "} expected") But obviously I have a closing brace!   I have a string that contains a value "firstword second third", and an ArrayList. I want to split the whole string in to by spaces and add the splitted strings in to the ArrayList. For example,"firstword second third" can be split to three separate strings and added three times in to the ArrayList. "1 2 3 4" can be splitted in to 4 strings and added 4 times in to the ArrayList. • Resharper 5 - enable/disable on the fly

  I want to disable ReSharper 5 when debugging - it slows things down more than I'm willing to take. Is there an automatic way to do this? The next best thing would be a toolbar button to manually enable/disable it. On the Tools - Options - ReSharper page there's a comment that the VS command Resharper_ToggleSuspended would do just this. The problem is, I can't find the command when I right-click a toolbar - Customize... - 'Commands' tab - Choose 'Resharper' category. Am I missing something?

• All site interaction through a single page

  Hi there I have an idea for a site where there would be no refreshing and all interactions take place via AJAX. The page would load with central space, where all interaction would take place. If a user clicked on a link, the page would request it via AJAX and replace the rectangle's content with the link content. The idea is effectively an AJAX implemented iframe. Are there any disadvantages with this approach? Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on the idea? • Echoing a pseudo column value after a COUNT

  Hi Gang... Please don't beat me if this is elementary. I searched and found disjointed stuff relating to pseudo columns. Nothing spot on about what I need. Anyway... I have a table with some rows. Each record has a unique ID, an ID that relates to another entity and finally a comment that relates to that last entity. So, I want to COUNT these rows to basically find what entity has the most comments. Instead of me explaining the query, I'll print it SELECT entity_id, COUNT(*) AS amount FROM comments GROUP BY entity_id ORDER BY amount DESC The query does just what I want, but I want to echo the values from that pseudo column, 'amount' Can it be done, or should I use another method like mysql_num_rows? • WCF service reference stopped generating code for one project

  I have references to two different WCF services in a project. I updated the reference for one of the services, and now no code is generated for it. The references.cs file just has the "this is genrated code" comment at the top. Updating that same service in other projects and updating the other service both work fine. It's only that one service reference in this one project that's causing the problem, and I'm getting no information from Visual Studio (it just says it failed to generate code and I should look at the other errors, which provide no information). If I uncheck the "reuse types in referenced assemblies", code is generated, but I don't want to have this one project be different from the others. I'd like to solve the problem. Re-checking the reuse type option produces an empty references.cs file, again. The collection type doesn't seem to matter, either. How can I diagnose and solve this problem?

• UIButton custom font vertical alignment

  I've got a UIButton which uses a custom font, which is set when my view loads: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.searchButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName: @"FONTNAME" size: 15.0 ]; } The problem I've got is that the font is appearing to float up of the center line. If I comment out this line, the default font appears vertically centered fine. But changing to the custom font breaks the vertical alignment. I'm getting the same issue on a Table Cell with a custom font too. Do I need to tell the view somewhere that the custom font is not as tall as other fonts? EDIT: I've just realized that the font I'm using is a Windows TrueType Font. I can use it fine in TextEdit on the Mac, only a problem with the alignment in my App

• MCV/MVP Patterns and Applications that interface with Hardware (DAQ/PLC/etc)

  I've been reading a lot about the MCV and MVP patterns for use with UI and it seems like a really nice powerful way to handle user interfaces. I am - however - having a difficult time deciding how this could integrate into a system where data in the model is created from a Data Acquisition System or Serial/Ethernet devices. There is also the added step that 70% of application interaction is performed by a PLC instead of a live user. It seems that for apps that just read/write & manipulate information from a database this works great, but how does does hardware and automation fit into these patterns? Is it as simple as another controller (for lack of a better term) that interacts with hardware that manipulates data and writes to a model? Maybe I am over thinking this or thinking too simply, so any advice would be great. I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this, so if something doesn't make sense or I was too vague leave me a comment. Thanks!

• Ignoring generated files when using "Treat warnings as errors"

  We have started a new project but also have this problem for an existing project. The problem is that when we compile with a warning level of 4 we also want to switch on 'Treat all warnings as errors' We are unable to do this at the moment because generated files (in particular reference.cs files) are missing things like XML comments and this generates a warning, we do not want to suppress the xml comment warnings totally out of all files just for specific types of files (namely generated code). I have thought of a way this could be achieved but am not sure if these are the best way to do this or indeed where to start :) My thinking is that we need to do something with T4 templates for the code that is generated such that it does fill in XML documentation for generated code. Does anyone have any ideas, currently I'm at well over 2k warnings (its a big project) :(
