• String.Format in javascript?

  Hi this is driving me nuts. I believe I asked this exact same question but I can't find it anymore(I used stackoverflow search, google search, manually searched my posts, searched my code). I wanted something that would be like the C# String.Format where you could do something like string format = String.Format("Hi {0}",name); just for javascript of course and one person gave me a simple answer it was not like a jquery plugin or anything but I think you made some json thing or something and it worked and was simple to use. I for the life of me can't find this post.

• HTML, Javascript, PHP and Actionscript all in one Eclipse install (2010)

  I just wanted to poll the community and see which plugins people are currently using to get all of these different technologies running in Eclipse. I saw this thread which mentioned Spket & WPT: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1575617/eclipse-which-plugins-for-html-javascript But I noticed that Spket doesn't seem to have been updated since October of 2009 so I'm wondering if it's still a good tool to use. I'm not sure what would be best for PHP since it seems like some of the tools are disjointed at the moment. For Actionscript I know I can just install the latest Flash Builder plugin and be done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  I have read that creating a namespace for JavaScript projects helps to reduce conflicts with other libraries. I have some code with a lot of different types of objects for which I have defined constructor functions. Is it good practice to put these inside the namespace as well? For example: var shapes = { Rectangle: function(w, h) { this.width = w; this.height = h; } }; which can be called via: var square = new shapes.Rectangle(10,10);

• How can I see included JavaScript sources?

  I am trying to script a web page using GreaseMonkey. (I am using Firebug for help in development.) The page has a small amount of JavaScript code, but that code pulls in other JS files from the site. Are the entire collection of JS files stored somewhere on the client side (i.e. on the filesystem somewhere) so that I can view them? Or better yet, is there a way I can view them in Firebug? I am a little overwhelmed by Firebug but will be able to follow instructions. Many thanks. (My first ever question on SO!) -Todd

• Customized alerts in Javascript not working properly

  I am developing an addon to Firefox using addon-builder. I want to replace a normal alert box in Javascript with my addon. So, I have choosen customized alert boxes using jQuery. The jAlert details are given here. Now, I made customized alerts (with title and colors in alert). It is wroking properly on some websites. But on some websites the default CSS is dominating my jQuery CSS, which leads to unexpected alerts (ugly alerts).

  hey... i'm doing my html and javascript class project and i want to have a msgbox welcoming the visitor asking for his name and then a welcoming msgbox shows up saying "hello (the name added)" i know how to do that but my only problem is that if i pressed back and went to the homepage of my website again, the msg will show up again asking for my name is there anyway to prevent this from happening? seriously don't want the visitor to wite his name each time he goes to the home page please help this is the code i'm using: <script> response = window.prompt("Welcome!","Please enter your name"); window.alert("hello " + response); </script> please help

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question! I've got the code working in jQuery to listen for a specific form on a page to be submitted and perform an alert when it is.. I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery? For example, I have this code (below) and just am unsure of how to listen for the form to be submitted to perform an action.. var submitform = document.getElementById("content").getElementsByTagName("form"); Thanks!

  I have seen some answers to this question in previous posts, but no one has given a real working example, just psuedo code. Has anyone ever done this before? Basically, what i have is a variable in javascript (jquery), and i want to use this variable to drive a query (for an overlay window) i am going to run in php. From what i have read you can do this using an ajax call to the same page so it doesnt refresh itself, but i must be missing something because i can't get it working... Any examples out there?   I need to replace some text that is on the page within the body tag. I am using javascript but have jquery available if needed. I basically need to replace test® (test with the registered trademark) with TEST® or tests® with TESTS® and it could even be test with TEST® or tests with TESTS®. I am able to uppercase them but its not liking to work for me with the ® sign, it wants to put duplicates on ones that already have it. Basically anything on the page that has the word test or tests should be TEST® or TESTS® if it is plural. Any help is appreciated.

  Hi, I have the following JSON object which has a date field in the following format: { "AlertDate": "\/Date(1277334000000+0100)\/", "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } I want to write a regular expression or a function to convert it to a javascript object so that it is in the form: { "AlertDate": "AlertDate":new Date(1277334000000), "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } The above date format fails validation in the JQuery parseJSON method. I would like to convert the 1277334000000+0100 into the correct number of milliseconds to create the correct date when eval is called after validation.   Im looking for a simple Javascript Library (svg?) that allow me to draw a family tree relationships. I have searched a lot on google found a lot of interesting libraries like Raphaël and its extention Dracula. Google has its own library to make flowcharts too. Unfortunally, every library make a relation between nodes with a sigle line. If A and B has a relation to C, I will obtain 2 line: one from A to C and one from B to C.   Hi, I have a radioButtonList with 2 items in it. A radiobutton with a "Yes" value and a radionButton with a "No" value. Below that I have a panel which I want made visible when "Yes" radioButton is selected and hidden when "No" is selected. I had originally implemented this using the AutoPostBack attribute but I want to do it in Javascript so that it doesn't cause a postback. Here's the code.   I'm writing a Javascript function that would manipulate an array written on-the-fly and sent as a parameter. The function is written as follows: function returnJourney(animation,clean){ var properties = {}; // loads of other inane stuff for(i in animation[0]) properties[animation[0][i]] = animation[0].i; // heaps more inane stuff } The animation in question is a set of parameters for a jQuery animation. Typically it takes the format of ({key:value,key:value},speedAsInteger,modifierAsString). So to kick off initial debugging I call it with: returnJouney(({'foo':'bar'},3000),1); And straight off the bat things are way off. As far as I see it this would have returnJourney acknowledge clean === 1, and animation being an array with an object as its first child and the number 3000 as its second. Firebug tells me animation evaluates as the number 3000. What am I doing wrong?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one).   I am trying to print an integer in Javascript with commas as thousands separators. For example, I want to show the number 1234567 as "1,234,567". How would I go about doing this?
