  • How to read the response stream before the Http response completes

    - by Marwan Aouida
When making a request using HttpWebRequest object, I need to call the method GetResponse() to send the request and get the response back. The problem with this method is that it doesn't return the response object until all data has been received. Say I am downloading a 100 MB file, I won't be able to read it until the response finish and all the 100 MB is downloaded. What I want is to be able to read the response stream bytes as soon as they arrive, without waiting for the response to complete. I know I can use the Range Http header, but it won't work on my situation.

  • Python: does it make sense to refactor this check into it's own method?

    - by Jeff Fry
I'm still learning python. I just wrote this method to determine if a player has won a game of tic-tac-toe yet, given a board state like:'[['o','x','x'],['x','o','-'],['x','o','o']]' def hasWon(board): players = ['x', 'o'] for player in players: for row in board: if row.count(player) == 3: return player top, mid, low = board for i in range(3): if [ top[i],mid[i],low[i] ].count(player) == 3: return player if [top[0],mid[1],low[2]].count(player) == 3: return player if [top[2],mid[1],low[0]].count(player) == 3: return player return None It occurred to me that I check lists of 3 chars several times and could refactor the checking to its own method like so: def check(list, player): if list.count(player) == 3: return player ...but then realized that all that really does is change lines like: if [ top[i],mid[i],low[i] ].count(player) == 3: return player to: if check( [top[i],mid[i],low[i]], player ): return player ...which frankly doesn't seem like much of an improvement. Do you see a better way to refactor this? Or in general a more Pythonic option? I'd love to hear it!

  • How to detect an overflow in C++ ?

    - by Tim
Hi, I just wonder if there is some convenient way to detect if overflow happens to any variable of any default data type used in a C++ program during runtime? By convenient, I mean no need to write code to follow each variable if it is in the range of its data type every time its value changes. Or if it is impossible to achieve this, how would you do? For example, float f1=FLT_MAX+1; cout << f1 << endl; doesn't give any error or warning in either compilation with "gcc -W -Wall" or running. Thanks and regards!

  • Cocoa app not launching on build & go but launching manually

    - by Matt S.
I have quite the interesting problem. Yesterday my program worked perfectly, but now today I'm getting exc_bad_access when I hit build and go, but if I launch the app from the build folder it launches perfectly and there seems to be nothing wrong. The last bunch of lines from the debugger are: #0 0xffff07c2 in __memcpy #1 0x969f7961 in CFStringGetBytes #2 0x96a491b9 in CFStringCreateMutableCopy #3 0x991270cc in -[NSCFString mutableCopyWithZone:] #4 0x96a5572a in -[NSObject(NSObject) mutableCopy] #5 0x9913e6c7 in -[NSString stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:withString:options:range:] #6 0x9913e62f in -[NSString stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:withString:] #7 0x99181ad0 in -[NSScanner(NSDecimalNumberScanning) scanDecimal:] #8 0x991ce038 in -[NSDecimalNumberPlaceholder initWithString:locale:] #9 0x991cde75 in -[NSDecimalNumberPlaceholder initWithString:] #10 0x991ce44a in +[NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:] Why did my app work perfectly yesterday but not today?

  • Rabbitmq queue sharding

    - by kolchanov
I have to implement this scenario: An external application publish message to rabbitmq. This message has a client_id property. We can place this id to routing key or message header or some other property. I have to implement sharding in a exchange routng logic - the message should be delivered to specific queue based on the client_id range. Is it possible to implement in a standard exchanges? If not what exchange should I take as the base? How to dynamicly change client_id ranges?

  • How can I set the minDate/maxDate for jQueryUI Datepicker using a string?

    - by leo
jQueryUI Datepicker documentation states that the minDate option can be set using "a string in the current dateFormat". So I've tried the following to initialize datepickers: $("input.date").datepicker({ minDate: "01/01/2010", maxDate: "12/31/2010" }); However, this results in my datepicker having a selectable date range that goes from 11/06/2015 to 12/17/2015. I've checked the current dateformat and its mm/dd/yy, which is supposed to mean 2 digits for the month, 2 for the day, and 4 for the year, separated by slashes. I've also tried including dateFormat: "mm/dd/yy" in the inizialization statement. I've also checked the values for minDate and maxDate afterwards and they ARE being set to the values I want: 01/01/2010 and 12/31/2010. I want to be able to set min/maxDate with strings because I'm being passed these values as strings from somewhere else. Maybe someone knows why this happens and how to solve this, or a workaround to achieve this, perphaps changing the format of the date strings or something? Thanks EDIT: Using: jQuery v1.3.2 and jQuery UI v1.7.2

  • How to find an available port?

    - by Roman
I want to start a server which listen to a port. I can specify port explicitly and it works. But I would like to find a port in an automatic way. In this respect I have two questions. In which range of port numbers should I search for? (I used ports 12345, 12346, and 12347 and it was fine). How can I find out if a given port is not occupied by another software?

  • App only spawns one thread

    - by tipu
I have what I thought was a thread-friendly app, and after doing some output I've concluded that of the 15 threads I am attempting to run, only one does. I have if __name__ == "__main__": fhf = FileHandlerFactory() tweet_manager = TweetManager("C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documents/My Dropbox/workspace/trie/Tweet Search Engine/data/partitioned_raw_tweets/raw_tweets.txt.001") start = time.time() for i in range(15): Indexer(tweet_manager, fhf).start() Then in my thread-entry point, I do def run(self): print(threading.current_thread()) self.index() That results in this: <Indexer(Thread-3, started 1168)> So of 15 threads that I thought were running, I'm only running one. Any idea as to why? Edit: code

  • Can EC2 instances be set up to come from different IP ranges?

    - by Joshua Frank
I need to run a web crawler and I want to do it from EC2 because I want the HTTP requests to come from different IP ranges so I don't get blocked. So I thought distributing this on EC2 instances might help, but I can't find any information about what the outbound IP range will be. I don't want to go to the trouble of figuring out the extra complexity of EC2 and distributed data, only to find that all the instances use the same address block and I get blocked by the server anyway. NOTE: This isn't for a DoS attack or anything. I'm trying to harvest data for a legitimate business purpose, I'm respecting robots.txt, and I'm only making one request per second, but the host is still shutting me down. Edit: Commenter Paul Dixon suggests that the act of blocking even my modest crawl indicates that the host doesn't want me to crawl them and therefore that I shouldn't do it (even assuming I can work around the blocking). Do people agree with this?

  • Problem with writing if condition

    - by Himadri
I have two decimal numbers. I want those number to be same upto 4 decimal points without rounding. If numbers are different I want 2nd number to be replaced by 1st. What if condition should I write? Eg, 1. num1 = 0.94618976 num2 = 0.94620239 If we round these numbers upto 4 decimal then we get 0.9462 same number, but I don't want to round these numbers. 2. num1 = 0.94620239 num2 = 0.94639125 The one way I found is take absolute difference of both numbers say diff and then check the value. My problem is of checking the range of diff. I am using delphi but you can answer in any language.Thank You.

  • Excel Matching problem with logic expression

    - by abelenky
(I understand Excel is only borderline programming) I have a block of data that represents the steps in a process and the possible errors: ProcessStep Status FeesPaid OK FormRecvd OK RoleAssigned OK CheckedIn Not Checked In. ReadyToStart Not Ready for Start I want to find the first Status that is not "OK". I have attempted this: =Match("<>""OK""", StatusRange, 0) which is supposed to return the index of the first element in the range that is NOT-EQUAL (<) to "OK" But this doesn't work, instead returning #N/A. I expect it to return 4 (index #4, in a 1-based index, representing that CheckedIn is the first non-OK element) Any ideas how to do this?

  • VBA: How to refer to the right worksheet

What is the easiest way of correcting this setback? Thanks in advance.

  • Best method to compress JSON string in term of performance and compress radio

    - by Eric Yin
For a JSON string, contains all kinds of settings, numbers, string etc. Total JSON string fairly fall into 10k~50K range. I want to compress it before save to database. So I wonder which compress method should I choose, I am using c# 4, I know I can choose gzip and deflate but the compression radio is not good (although speed is good). More specific, compress can be a little slow (since only once) but should be small. Decompress should be lighting fast since decompress happens lots. Please give some advice.

  • Recommendations on Triming Large Amounts of Text from a DOM Object

    - by aronchick
I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

  • pyplot: really slow creating heatmaps

    - by cvondrick
I have a loop that executes the body about 200 times. In each loop iteration, it does a sophisticated calculation, and then as debugging, I wish to produce a heatmap of a NxM matrix. But, generating this heatmap is unbearably slow and significantly slow downs an already slow algorithm. My code is along the lines: import numpy import matplotlib.pyplot as plt for i in range(200): matrix = complex_calculation() plt.set_cmap("gray") plt.imshow(matrix) plt.savefig("frame{0}.png".format(i)) The matrix, from numpy, is not huge --- 300 x 600 of doubles. Even if I do not save the figure and instead update an on-screen plot, it's even slower. Surely I must be abusing pyplot. (Matlab can do this, no problem.) How do I speed this up?

  • Generate colour palette from uploaded image

    - by greenie
Just for fun I've been looking at how to use the GD library to create a colour palette from an image. So far I've used GD to resize a user uploaded image to an appropriate size for displaying on a webpage. Now I'd like to be able to get about five or so different colours from the image that represent the range of colours present in it. Once I've done that I'd like to generate a complementary palette based upon those colours, which I can then use to colour different elements on the page. Any help I can get about how I would find the initial colour palette would be much appreciated!

  • How to evaluate a custom math expression in Python

    - by taynaron
I'm writing a custom dice rolling parser (snicker if you must) in python. Basically, I want to use standard math evaluation but add the 'd' operator: #xdy sum = 0 for each in range(x): sum += randInt(1, y) return sum So that, for example, 1d6+2d6+2d6-72+4d100 = (5)+(1+1)+(6+2)-72+(5+39+38+59) = 84 I was using regex to replace all 'd's with the sum and then using eval, but my regex fell apart when dealing with parentheses on either side. Is there a faster way to go about this than implementing my own recursive parsing? Perhaps adding an operator to eval?

  • How precise is the internal clock of a modern PC?

    - by mafutrct
I know that 10 years ago, typical clock precision equaled a system-tick, which was in the range of 10-30ms. Over the past years, precision was increased in multiple steps. Nowadays, there are ways to measure time intervals in actual nanoseconds. However, usual frameworks still return time with a precision of only around 15ms. My question is, which steps did increase the precision, how is it possible to measure in nanoseconds, and why are we still often getting less-than-microsecond precision (for instance in .NET). (Disclaimer: It strikes me as odd that this was not asked before, so I guess I missed this question when I searched. Please close and point me to the question in that case, thanks. I believe this belongs on SO and not on any other SOFU site. I understand the difference between precision and accuracy.)

  • Try to fill the GAE datastore but the code consumes to much cpu time. How to optimize this?

    - by Neverland
I try to get the list of images in Amazon EC2 inside the Google datastore. I want to realize this with a cron job inside the GAE. class AmazonEC2uswest(db.Model): ami = db.StringProperty(required=True) mani = db.StringProperty() typ = db.StringProperty() arch = db.StringProperty() state = db.StringProperty() owner = db.StringProperty() class CronAMIsAmazonUS_WEST(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): aws_access_key_id_admin = "<secret>" aws_secret_access_key_admin = "<secret>" conn_us_west = boto.ec2.connect_to_region('us-west-1', aws_access_key_id=aws_access_key_id_admin, aws_secret_access_key=aws_secret_access_key_admin, is_secure = False) liste_images_us_west = conn_us_west.get_all_images() laenge_liste_images_us_west = len(liste_images_us_west) for i in range(laenge_liste_images_us_west): datastore_uswest_AMIs = AmazonEC2uswest(ami=liste_images_us_west[i].id, mani=str(liste_images_us_west[i].location), typ=liste_images_us_west[i].type, arch=liste_images_us_west[i].architecture, state=liste_images_us_west[i].state, owner=liste_images_us_west[i].ownerId) datastore_uswest_AMIs.put() The problem: Getting the list with get_all_images() lasts only a few seconds. But writing the data to the Google datastore needs way too much CPU time. My IBM T42p (P4M with 2GHz) needs for that piece of code approx. 1 Minute! Is it possible to optimize my code in a way that it needs fewer CPU time?

Hello, I want to keep last.fm's user recent music tracks list to postgresql database table using pylast interface. But when I tried to insert values to the table it shows errors.Code example: for i, artist in enumerate(recent_tracks): for key in sorted(artist): cur.execute(""" INSERT INTO u_recent_track(Playback_date,Time_stamp,Track) VALUES (%s,%s)""", (key, artist[key])) conn.commit() cur.execute("SELECT * FROM u_recent_track;") cur.fetchone() for row in cur: print ' '.join(row[1:]) cur.close() conn.close() Here "recent_tracks" tuple have the values for example: artist 0 - playback_date : 5 May 2010, 11:14 - timestamp : 1273058099 - track : Brian Eno - Web I want to store these value under u_recent_track(Tid,Playback_date,Time_stamp,Track).Can anybody have idea how to sort out this problem? when I tried to run, it shows error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "F:\JavaWorkspace\Test\src\recent_track_database.py", line 50, in <module> VALUES (%s,%s,%s)""", (key, artist[key])) IndexError: tuple index out of range Thanks in advanced!

  • Efficient way to ASCII encode UTF-8

    - by Andreas Gohr
I'm looking for a simple and efficient way to store UTF-8 strings in ASCII-7. With efficient I mean the following: all ASCII chars in the input should stay ASCII chars in the output the resulting string should be as short as possible the operation needs to be reversable without any data loss there should be no restriction on the input length the whole UTF-8 range should be allowed My first idea was to use Punycode (IDNA) as it fits the first three requirements, but it fails at the last two. Can anyone recommend an alternative encoding scheme? Even better if there's some code available to look at.

  • Continuous output in Neural Networks

    - by devoured elysium
How can I set Neural Networks so they accept and output a continuous range of values instead of a discrete ones? From what I recall from doing a Neural Network class a couple of years ago, the activation function would be a sigmoid, which yields a value between 0 and 1. If I want my neural network to yield a real valued scalar, what should I do? I thought maybe if I wanted a value between 0 and 10 I could just multiply the value by 10? What if I have negative values? Is this what people usually do or is there any other way? What about the input? Thanks

  • GameKit peer to peer wifi without wireless router?

    - by Tim
Hi all! Thanks in advance for any thoughts about this. I'm looking for a way to do realtime inter-app communication in iOS via wi-fi (I need about 150 ft range and don't think bluetooth offers this) and wonder about the peer-to-peer connectivity offered by GameKit which, apparently offers both bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. My question is: must participating devices be members of an available wireless network (via a wireless router) or is this connectivity truly peer-to-peer requiring no router? I understand Wi-fi Direct is coming and would likely be an option. Just wondering if I can do this utilizing services available in iOS today. Thanks! Tim
