    hi there, I find the LOC (lines of code) metric a simple but nice metric to get an overview of software codebase complexity (see also blog-entry 'implications of lines-of-code'). I wondered how many of you out there are using this metric as a centric part for retrospective (for removing unused functionality or dead code). I think creating awareness that more lines-of-code mean more complexity in maintenance and extension is valuable.

  • ColdFusion CFC implementation of C# Partial Class?

    Does ColdFusion offer a mechanism for splitting CFCs into multiple files? I am NOT talking about extension, I am talking about splitting the SAME CFC into multiple files; the same way C# allows for "partial" classes. The reason for this is because I am using T4 to generate a bunch of CFCs and I want to be able to tag functionality onto the generated CFC by doing so in another file. I want to do this in a way that doesn't violate the Open-Closed Principle.

    Is there a way to somehow mark Types I do not control as Obsolete? Basically I would like to add ObsoleteAttribute to types I do not want to use in my .net Project (i.e., SerializableAttribute) I believe I can do something like that with FxCop, but ideally I would like to have the compiler already generate warnings for "greylisted" Types? This should be on a Per-Project level, but sadly "Extension Attributes" don't exist, and adding them at Runtime is too late for ObsoleteAttribute...

    Is it possible to tie a C++ output stream to another output stream? I'm asking because I've written an ISAPI extension in C++ and I've written ostreams around the WriteClient and ServerSupportFunction/HSE_REQ_SEND_RESPONSE_HEADER_EX functions - one ostream for the HTTP headers and one for the body of the HTTP response. I'd like to tie the streams together so that all the HTTP headers are sent before the rest of the response is sent.

I want the setup script to look to see if the app is installed by checking for it's register key and getting its installed directory and set the install path that is shown to this path.     When I look at the example of the user extensions of GWT-Ext I saw the Spinner as a user extension: http://www.gwt-ext.com/demo-ux/#spinner When I download the library from http://code.google.com/p/gwt-ext-ux/downloads/list (I downloaded the latest build -- 0.3.0) it does not appear to contain the Spinner class. Can anyone point me in the right direction for how to use it?

    Are there any Intel AVX intrinsics library out? I'm looking for something similar as 'sse2mmx.h' header which fall-backs to MMX intrinsics if SSE2 integer intrinsics are not available on compile time. Thus if I had similar library for AVX I could write optimized code for new hardware which would have almost optimal speed in case AVX extension isn't available. Googling didn't help much so far :(

I see the only way: detect type of file by it's extension and then, depending on file type, try to get information about it (by Imagemagick or ffmpeg). Is there any other ways? Thank you.

    If I add action within an extension point thus: <action class="com.mycompany.MyAction" id="mycompany.myaction.MyAction" menubarPath="actions" /> How can I control its ordering programatically? It looks like they are simply ordered alphabetically according to their ID. I don't want to have to give them names such as '001-z', '002-a', just to get 'z' to appear before 'a'. It would also be a nightmare re-ordering them later.
