  • Which forum software has the most advanced community/GetSatisfaction type features?

    I need to assemble a GetSatisfaction/Lithium/Jive type support forum/community. The first is not available in the desired language and the last two are priced for the enterprise market. I did research some other options (open source or SaaS) but they all seem to be either: kind of dead (open source options) too focused in gathering ideas/feedback (uservoice) strictly support without the community/voting features (zendesk) I need an open forum (people powered support/UGC with community/voting features). Therefore I will have to do some of the work on my own. I want to piece things (plugins/mods/etc) on top of a standard forum platform to give it the features I need. For this purpose, I want to use a mature product with widespread userbase, active community and lots of plugin options. I believe most will agree that my options therefore are: vBulletin phpBB SMF Here are the questions: Which one of the three above offers the easier path towards the desired goal? Which one of the three above has the most advanced features related to the desired goal? Of course I dont expect anyone to know these answers cut and dry. I am hoping to hear some experiences and see some examples. Also, it would be great if both those questions had the same answer, but I am not going to get my hopes up... PS: I wish I could add the tags "phpbb" and "smf" ;)

I just searched the PHP job market to know the on-going technology requirement and to keep my knowledge up-to-date accordingly with the job market. I see more are asking for LAMP stack. I understand the sort of skills required for a developer in PHP and MySQL. But coming to the Linux and Apache what kind of the skills exactly companies expect from a developer? On what should I be focusing in case of Linux, Apache whilst developing my website using these LAMP stack? I am going to develop a new website and want it to be using LAMP. But I want to know what difference it makes? Why LAMP stack got more demand in the job market compared to WAMP ?   • Are these advanced/unfair interview questions regarding Java concurrency?

    Here are some questions I've recently asked interviewees who say they know Java concurrency: Explain the hazard of "memory visibility" - the way the JVM can reorder certain operations on variables that are unprotected by a monitor and not declared volatile, such that one thread may not see the changes made by another thread. Usually I ask this one by showing code where this hazard is present (e.g. the NoVisibility example in Listing 3.1 from "Java Concurrency in Practice" by Goetz et al) and asking what is wrong. Explain how volatile affects not just the actual variable declared volatile, but also any changes to variables made by a thread before it changes the volatile variable. Why might you use volatile instead of synchronized? Implement a condition variable with wait() and notifyAll(). Explain why you should use notifyAll(). Explain why the condition variable should be tested with a while loop. My question is - are these appropriate or too advanced to ask someone who says they know Java concurrency? And while we're at it, do you think that someone working in Java concurrency should be expected to have an above-average knowledge of Java garbage collection?

  • UpdatePanel, JavaScript postback and changing querystring at same time in SharePoint Search Page

    Hi Guys, Been tearing my hear out with this one. Let me see if I can explain: I have a SharePoint results page on which I have a Search Results Core WebPart. Now I want to change the parameter in the querystring when I postback the page so that the WebPart returns different results for each parameter e.g. the querystring will be interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:Romania this will filter the results for Romania. First issue is I want to do this with javascript so I call: document.getElementById('aspnetForm').action = "interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:" + country; Nothing special here but the reason I need to call from Javascript is there is also a flash applet on this page from which the Javascript calls originate. When the javascript calls are made the page needs to PostBack but not reload the flash applet. I turned to ASP.Net AJAX for this so I wrapped the search results webpart in an update panel. Now if I use a button within the UpdatePanel to postback the UpdatePanel behaves as expected and does a partial render of the search results webpart not reloading the flash applet. Problem comes because I need postback the page from javscript. I called __doPostBack() as I have used this successully in the past. It works on it's own but fails when I first call the above Javascript before the __doPostBack() (I also tried calling click() on a hidden button) the code for the page is at the bottom. I think the problem comes with the scriptmanager not allowing a partial render when the form post action has changed. My questions are. Thanks! This Code Golf challenge is about solving word searches! A word search, as defined by Wikipedia, is: A word search, word find, word seek, word sleuth or mystery word puzzle is a word game that is letters of a word in a grid, that usually has a rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden inside the box. The words may be horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Often a list of the hidden words is provided, but more challenging puzzles may let the player figure them out. Many word search puzzles have a theme to which all the hidden words are related. The word searches for this challenge will all be rectangular grids with a list of words to find provided. The words can be written vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Input/Output The user inputs their word search and then inputs a word to be found in their grid. These two inputs are passed to the function that you will be writing. It is up to you how you want to declare and handle these objects. Using a strategy described below or one of your own, the function finds the specific word in the search and outputs its starting coordinates (simply row number and column number) and ending coordinates.     Hi Guys, I am building a social networking site that is dedicated to nightclubs and night events. Among other tables, I have a users table, events table and establishments table. I am really intrigued with how Facebook in particular is able to query and return matches of not just users but also pages, ads etc row after row. Im sure most who are reading this have tried the facebook search My question is in my case, should I: Perform 3 separate LIKE %search% on each of the tables on search.php. As I understand it, the impact is from repetitive content, table-based layouts, and lots of extra markup. I've got a friend who would like to start an e-commerce site using DNN and some modules from Snowcovered. I was just wondering whether DNN would be a good platform to choose. The idea is attractive because of the ease with which a DNN commerce system can be deployed. I'm trying to make a simple filter search where-by you can choose from a series of 3 drop downs and then based upon this the results are then displayed, How would I go about adjusting the sql query for each and if you were to only choose to search from aone of the 3 rather than all 3 etc... example there could be the url with input such as: url.com?location=gb&color=3&hair=4 and still form the correct sql query for something like this: url.com?location=gb&hair=1 and not encounter problems with WHERE and AND etc etc and empty variables in the statement Would this not need to be a massive function to check using if to see how the data is set for all possibilities? I use ndiswrapper to use the windows driver and it had been working fine for me untill I ran the update manager overnight a few days ago.     I just setup django-sphinx, and it is working beautifully. I am now able to search my model and get amazing results. The one problem is that I have to build the index by hand using the indexer command. That means every time I add new content, I have to manually hit the command line to rebuild the search index. That is just not acceptable. I could make a cron job that automatically runs the indexer command every so often, but that's far from optimal. New data won't be indexed until the cron runs again. In addition, the indexer will run unnecessarily most times as my site doesn't have data being added very often. How do I set it up so that the Sphinx index will automatically rebuild itself whenever data is added to or modified in a searchable django model?

    Hi, my company is running IIS and DNN (I'm not a server guy, so color me ignorant), and I've read previous that you should either redirect your .http://www.mydomain to .http://mydomain or Vice Versa. Can anyone give me reasons to do this? (periods "prepended" to remove href) From what I understand, it's because search engines see those as two different 'sites' (Even when visiting one or the other, I can be logged into one but not the other). I also heard it can be a duplicate content problem, which search engines dislike. Just looking for some professional insight, will help me and others. Thanks!

    This should be an ideal case of not re-inventing the wheel, but so far my search has been in vain. Instead of writing one myself, I would like to use an existing C++ tokenizer. The tokens are to be used in an index for full text searching. Performance is very important, I will parse many gigabytes of text. Edit: Please note that the tokens are to be used in a search index. Creating such tokens is not an exact science (afaik) and requires some heuristics. This has been done a thousand time before, and probably in a thousand different ways, but I can't even find one of them :) Any good pointers? Thanks!

    Hi there, I'm using django-haystack for a search page on my site. I'm basically done, but not quite happy with the ordering and not quite sure how haystack decides how to order everything. I know I can over-ride the SearchQuerySet by using order_by but that over-rides it entirely. Let's say I want to force the search to order by in stock (BooleanField), so that the products that are in stock show up on top, but then do everything else as it normally would. How do I do that? I tried doing order_by('-in_stock', 'content') figure content was what it used by default but it produces very different results from if I just leave it to do its own ordering. Thanks for any input on this matter!

For instance, I want to use this to store common misspellings; expecting to have 4-10 variations of a word. <expansion> <sub>administration</sub> <sub>administraton</sub> <sub>aministraton</sub> </expansion> When you run a fulltext search, how does performance degrade with that number of variations? for instance, I assume it has to do a separate fulltext search performing an OR? Also, having say 20/30K entries in the Thesaurus xml file - does this impact performance?

    I have a java properties file containing a key/value pair of country names and codes. I will load the contents of this file into a Collection like List or HashMap. Then, I want users to be able to search for a country, e.g if they type 'Aus' in a textbox and click submit, then I want to search through the collection I have, containing a key/value pair of country codes/names (e.g AUS=Australia), and return those countries which are found matching. Is there any more efficient way of doing this, other than looping through the elements of the collection and using charAt()?

What I want is to search a specific row (based on the primary key) to select it on the grid. I cant use the bindingsource.Find method because you only can use one column. I have access to the datatable, so I do manually search on the datatable, but how can I get bindingsource row position based on the datatable row? Or there is another way to solve this? Im using Visual Studio 2005, VB.NET.

I've noticed in the Contacts application, the textfield within the UISearchBar is resized to accommodate this, but I can't work out how to do this in my own app. I have tried the following in my viewDidLoad, but it does not seem to work. So the output will be as follows: $VAR1 = { abc => { 123 => ["xx", "yy", "zy"], 456 => ["ab", "cd", "ef"] }, def => { 659 => ["wx", "yg", "kl"] }, mno => { 987 => ["lk", "dm", "sd"] }, } So the deletion is based on the substructure, and not index. Lets assume that I will declare the values to be kept, i.e. I will keep 456 = ["ab", "cd", "ef"] based on a predeclared value of ["ab", "cd", "ef"] and delete any other instance of 456 anywhere else. The search has to be for every key. so the code will go through the hash, first taking 123 = ["xx", "yy", "zy"] and compare it against itself throughout the rest of the hash, if no match is found, do nothing. If a match is found, like in the case of 456 = ["ab", "cd", "ef"], it will compare the two, and as I have said that in case of a match the one with ["ab", "cd", "ef"] would be kept, it will keep 456 = ["ab", "cd", "ef"] and discard any other instances of 456 anywhere else in the hash, i.e. it will delete 456 = ["as", "sd", "df"] in this case.
