  • Write a signal handler to catch SIGSEGV

    - by Adi
    Hi all, I want to write a signal handler to catch SIGSEGV. First , I would protect a block of memory for read or writes using char *buffer; char *p; char a; int pagesize = 4096; " mprotect(buffer,pagesize,PROT_NONE) " What this will do is , it will protect the memory starting from buffer till pagesize for any reads or writes. Second , I will try to read the memory by doing something like p = buffer; a = *p This will generate a SIGSEGV and i have initialized a handler for this. The handler will be called . So far so good. Now the problem I am facing is , once the handler is called, I want to change the access write of the memory by doing mprotect(buffer, pagesize,PROT_READ); and continue my normal functioning of the code. I do not want to exit the function. On future writes to the same memory, I want again catch the signal and modify the write rights and then take account of that event. Here is the code I am trying : #include <signal.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <malloc.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <errno.h> #include <sys/mman.h> #define handle_error(msg) \ do { perror(msg); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } while (0) char *buffer; int flag=0; static void handler(int sig, siginfo_t *si, void *unused) { printf("Got SIGSEGV at address: 0x%lx\n",(long) si->si_addr); printf("Implements the handler only\n"); flag=1; //exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { char *p; char a; int pagesize; struct sigaction sa; sa.sa_flags = SA_SIGINFO; sigemptyset(&sa.sa_mask); sa.sa_sigaction = handler; if (sigaction(SIGSEGV, &sa, NULL) == -1) handle_error("sigaction"); pagesize=4096; /* Allocate a buffer aligned on a page boundary; initial protection is PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE */ buffer = memalign(pagesize, 4 * pagesize); if (buffer == NULL) handle_error("memalign"); printf("Start of region: 0x%lx\n", (long) buffer); printf("Start of region: 0x%lx\n", (long) buffer+pagesize); printf("Start of region: 0x%lx\n", (long) buffer+2*pagesize); printf("Start of region: 0x%lx\n", (long) buffer+3*pagesize); //if (mprotect(buffer + pagesize * 0, pagesize,PROT_NONE) == -1) if (mprotect(buffer + pagesize * 0, pagesize,PROT_NONE) == -1) handle_error("mprotect"); //for (p = buffer ; ; ) if(flag==0) { p = buffer+pagesize/2; printf("It comes here before reading memory\n"); a = *p; //trying to read the memory printf("It comes here after reading memory\n"); } else { if (mprotect(buffer + pagesize * 0, pagesize,PROT_READ) == -1) handle_error("mprotect"); a = *p; printf("Now i can read the memory\n"); } /* for (p = buffer;p<=buffer+4*pagesize ;p++ ) { //a = *(p); *(p) = 'a'; printf("Writing at address %p\n",p); }*/ printf("Loop completed\n"); /* Should never happen */ exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } The problem I am facing with this is ,only the signal handler is running and I am not able to return to the main function after catching the signal.. Any help in this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Aditya

  • AT91SAM7X512's SPI peripheral gets disabled on write to SPI_TDR

    - by Dor
My AT91SAM7X512's SPI peripheral gets disabled on the X time (X varies) that I write to SPI_TDR. As a result, the processor hangs on the while loop that checks the TDRE flag in SPI_SR. This while loop is located in the function SPI_Write() that belongs to the software package/library provided by ATMEL. The problem occurs arbitrarily - sometimes everything works OK and sometimes it fails on repeated attempts (attemp = downloading the same binary to the MCU and running the program). Configurations are (defined in the order of writing): SPI_MR: MSTR = 1 PS = 0 PCSDEC = 0 PCS = 0111 DLYBCS = 0 SPI_CSR[3]: CPOL = 0 NCPHA = 1 CSAAT = 0 BITS = 0000 SCBR = 20 DLYBS = 0 DLYBCT = 0 SPI_CR: SPIEN = 1 After setting the configurations, the code verifies that the SPI is enabled, by checking the SPIENS flag. I perform a transmission of bytes as follows: const short int dataSize = 5; // Filling array with random data unsigned char data[dataSize] = {0xA5, 0x34, 0x12, 0x00, 0xFF}; short int i = 0; volatile unsigned short dummyRead; SetCS3(); // NPCS3 == PIOA15 while(i-- < dataSize) { mySPI_Write(data[i]); while((AT91C_BASE_SPI0->SPI_SR & AT91C_SPI_TXEMPTY) == 0); dummyRead = SPI_Read(); // SPI_Read() from Atmel's library } ClearCS3(); /**********************************/ void mySPI_Write(unsigned char data) { while ((AT91C_BASE_SPI0->SPI_SR & AT91C_SPI_TXEMPTY) == 0); AT91C_BASE_SPI0->SPI_TDR = data; while ((AT91C_BASE_SPI0->SPI_SR & AT91C_SPI_TDRE) == 0); // <-- This is where // the processor hangs, because that the SPI peripheral is disabled // (SPIENS equals 0), which makes TDRE equal to 0 forever. } Questions: What's causing the SPI peripheral to become disabled on the write to SPI_TDR? Should I un-comment the line in SPI_Write() that reads the SPI_RDR register? Means, the 4th line in the following code: (The 4th line is originally marked as a comment) void SPI_Write(AT91S_SPI *spi, unsigned int npcs, unsigned short data) { // Discard contents of RDR register //volatile unsigned int discard = spi->SPI_RDR; /* Send data */ while ((spi->SPI_SR & AT91C_SPI_TXEMPTY) == 0); spi->SPI_TDR = data | SPI_PCS(npcs); while ((spi->SPI_SR & AT91C_SPI_TDRE) == 0); } Is there something wrong with the code above that transmits 5 bytes of data? Please note: The NPCS line num. 3 is a GPIO line (means, in PIO mode), and is not controlled by the SPI controller. I'm controlling this line by myself in the code, by de/asserting the ChipSelect#3 (NPCS3) pin when needed. The reason that I'm doing so is because that problems occurred while trying to let the SPI controller to control this pin. I didn't reset the SPI peripheral twice, because that the errata tells to reset it twice only if I perform a reset - which I don't do. Quoting the errata: If a software reset (SWRST in the SPI Control Register) is performed, the SPI may not work properly (the clock is enabled before the chip select.) Problem Fix/Workaround The SPI Control Register field, SWRST (Software Reset) needs to be written twice to be cor- rectly set. I noticed that sometimes, if I put a delay before the write to the SPI_TDR register (in SPI_Write()), then the code works perfectly and the communications succeeds. Useful links: AT91SAM7X Series Preliminary.pdf ATMEL software package/library spi.c from Atmel's library spi.h from Atmel's library An example of initializing the SPI and performing a transfer of 5 bytes is highly appreciated and helpful.

  • WiX major upgrade refuses to replace existing file!

    - by Joshua
Hello! I have inherited this project with a WiX installer, and am required to make this version usefully upgrade the previous one! My problem comes in replacing the database files with new versions. No, the problem is not that they are locked, I can replace them manually, and in fact now ONE of them is replaced, while the other is not. Please, please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I've tried several other solutions (including registry keys as KeyPath instead of CompanionFile) but nothing is quite working. • How to Export Multiple Contacts in Outlook 2013 to Multiple vCards or a Single vCard

    - by Lori Kaufman
We’ve shown you how to export a contact to and import a contact from a vCard (.vcf) file. However, what if you want to export multiple contacts at the same time to multiple vCard files or even a single vCard file? Outlook doesn’t allow you to directly export all your contacts as vCard files or as a single vCard file, but there is a way to accomplish both tasks. Export Multiple Contacts to Multiple vCard Files Outlook allows you to forward contact information as a vCard. You can also select multiple contacts and forward them all at once. This feature allows you to indirectly export multiple contacts at once to multiple vCard files. Click the People tab to access your contacts. Select all the contacts you want to export using the Shift and Ctrl keys as needed. Select Contacts the same way you would select files in Windows Explorer. Click Forward Contact in the Share section on the Home tab and select As a Business Card from the drop-down menu. The selected contacts attached to a new email message as .vcf files. To select all the attached .vcf files, right-click in the Attached box and select Select All from the popup menu. Make sure the folder to which you want to export the contacts is open in Windows Explorer. Drag the selected attached .vcf files from the new email message to the open folder in Windows Explorer. A .vcf file is created for each contact you selected and dragged to the folder. You can close the Message window by clicking on the X in the upper, right corner of the window. NOTE: You can also close the Message window by clicking the File tab. Then, click the Close option on the left. Because you already have your .vcf files, you don’t need to save or send the message, so click No when asked if you want to save your changes. If it turns out that a draft of your message was saved, the following message displays. Click No to delete the draft. Export Multiple Contacts to a Single vCard (.vcf) File If you would rather export your contacts to a single vCard (.vcf) File, there is a way to do this using Gmail. We’ll export the contacts from Outlook as a .csv file and then use Gmail to convert the .csv file to a .vcf file. Select the contacts you want to export on the People page and click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Open & Export in the list on the left. On the Open screen, click Import/Export. The Import and Export Wizard displays. Select Export to a file from the Choose an action to perform list and click Next. In the Create a file of type box, select Comma Separated Values. Click Next. Contacts should be already selected in the Select folder to export from box. If not, select it. Click Next. Click Browse to the right of the Save exported file as box. Navigate to the folder to which you want to export the .csv file. Enter a name for the file in the File name edit box, keeping the .csv extension. The path you selected is entered into the Save exported file as edit box. Click Next. The final screen of the Export to a File dialog box displays listing the action to be performed. Click Finish to begin the export process. Once the export process is finished, you will see the .csv file in the folder in Windows Explorer. Now, we will import the .csv file into Gmail. Go to Gmail and sign in to your account. Click Gmal in the upper, left corner of the main page and select Contacts from the drop-down menu. On the Contacts page, click More above your list of contacts and select Import from the drop-down menu. Click Browse on the Import contacts dialog box that displays. Navigate to the folder in which you saved the .csv file and select the file. Click Open. Click Import on the Import contacts dialog box. A screen displays listing the contacts you imported, but not yet merged into your main Gmail contacts list. Select the contacts you imported. NOTE: The contacts you imported may be the only contacts in this list. If that’s the case, they all should be automatically selected. Click More and select Export from the drop-down menu. On the Export contacts dialog box, select Selected contacts to indicate which contacts you want to export. NOTE: We could have selected The group Imported 10/10/13 because that contains the same two contacts as the Selected contacts. Select vCard format for the export format. Click Export. Gmail creates a contacts.vcf file containing the selected contacts and asks you whether you want to open the file with Outlook or save the file. To save the file, select the Save File option and click OK. Navigate to the folder in which you want to save the contacts.vcf file, change the name of the file in the File name edit box, if desired, and click Save. The .vcf file is saved to the selected directory and contains all the contacts you exported from Outlook. This could be used as a way to backup your contacts in one file. You could also backup the .csv file. However, if you have a lot of contacts you will probably find that the .vcf file is smaller. We only exported two contacts, and our .csv file was 2 KB, while the .vcf file was 1 KB. We will be showing you how to import multiple contacts from a single .vcf file into Outlook soon.

  • Write-only collections in MongoDB

    - by rcoder
I'm currently using MongoDB to record application logs, and while I'm quite happy with both the performance and with being able to dump arbitrary structured data into log records, I'm troubled by the mutability of log records once stored. In a traditional database, I would structure the grants for my log tables such that the application user had INSERT and SELECT privileges, but not UPDATE or DELETE. Similarly, in CouchDB, I could write a update validator function that rejected all attempts to modify an existing document. However, I've been unable to find a way to restrict operations on a MongoDB database or collection beyond the three access levels (no access, read-only, "god mode") documented in the security topic on the MongoDB wiki. Has anyone else deployed MongoDB as a document store in a setting where immutability (or at least change tracking) for documents was a requirement? What tricks or techniques did you use to ensure that poorly-written or malicious application code could not modify or destroy existing log records? Do I need to wrap my MongoDB logging in a service layer that enforces the write-only policy, or can I use some combination of configuration, query hacking, and replication to ensure a consistent, audit-able record is maintained?

  • scipy.io typeerror:buffer too small for requested array

I have a problem in python. I'm using scipy, where i use scipy.io to load a .mat file. The size is (9,521), which is not at all huge. I tried to find if I'm supposed to clear the buffer after each iteration of the loop, but I could not find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Python 3 with the range function

    - by Leif Andersen
I can type in the following code in the terminal, and it works: for i in range(5): print(i) And it will print: 0 1 2 3 4 as expected. However, I tried to write a script that does a similar thing: print(current_chunk.data) read_chunk(file, current_chunk) numVerts, numFaces, numEdges = current_chunk.data print(current_chunk.data) print(numVerts) for vertex in range(numVerts): print("Hello World") current_chunk.data is gained from the following method: def read_chunk(file, chunk): line = file.readline() while line.startswith('#'): line = file.readline() chunk.data = line.split() The output for this is: ['OFF'] ['490', '518', '0'] 490 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/leif/src/install/linux2/.blender/scripts/io/import_scene_off.py", line 88, in execute load_off(self.properties.path, context) File "/home/leif/src/install/linux2/.blender/scripts/io/import_scene_off.py", line 68, in load_off for vertex in range(numVerts): TypeError: 'str' object cannot be interpreted as an integer So, why isn't it spitting out Hello World 490 times? Or is the 490 being thought of as a string? I opened the file like this: def load_off(filename, context): file = open(filename, 'r')

  • MINA: Performing synchronous write requests / read responses

    - by Matt Huggins
I'm attempting to perform a synchronous write/read in a demux-based client application with MINA 2.0 RC1, but it seems to get stuck. Here is my code: public boolean login(final String username, final String password) { // block inbound messages session.getConfig().setUseReadOperation(true); // send the login request final LoginRequest loginRequest = new LoginRequest(username, password); final WriteFuture writeFuture = session.write(loginRequest); writeFuture.awaitUninterruptibly(); if (writeFuture.getException() != null) { session.getConfig().setUseReadOperation(true); return false; } // retrieve the login response final ReadFuture readFuture = session.read(); readFuture.awaitUninterruptibly(); if (readFuture.getException() != null) { session.getConfig().setUseReadOperation(true); return false; } // stop blocking inbound messages session.getConfig().setUseReadOperation(false); // determine if the login info provided was valid final LoginResponse loginResponse = (LoginResponse)readFuture.getMessage(); return loginResponse.getSuccess(); } I can see on the server side that the LoginRequest object is retrieved, and a LoginResponse message is sent. On the client side, the DemuxingProtocolCodecFactory receives the response, but after throwing in some logging, I can see that the client gets stuck on the call to readFuture.awaitUninterruptibly(). I can't for the life of me figure out why it is stuck here based upon my own code. I properly set the read operation to true on the session config, meaning that messages should be blocked. However, it seems as if the message no longer exists by time I try to read response messages synchronously. Any clues as to why this won't work for me?

  • Problems in Linux Mint 13 MATE with NTFS partitions

    - by usr
I'm using Linux Mint 13 MATE (32 bit). With Caja file manager (based on Nautilus 2.x) I can create, modify and remove folders and files on NTFS partitions whitout problems. But, for example, when I have a compressed file (.zip, .7z, ...) in a NTFS partition I can't extract it (with File-Roller, Peazip, ...). But I can extract the same file in a ext4 partition perfectly. What might the problem be? Are there (maybe) file permissions for each application?

  • can't write to physical drive in win 7??

    - by matt
I wrote a disk utility that allowed you to erase whole physical drives. it uses the windows file api, calling : destFile = CreateFile("\\.\PhysicalDrive1", GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING,createflags, NULL); and then just calling WriteFile, and making sure you write in multiples of sectors, i.e. 512 bytes. this worked fine in the past, on XP, and even on the Win7 RC, all you have to do is make sure you are running it as an administrator. but now I have retail Win7 professional, it doesn't work anymore! the drives still open fine for writing, but calling WriteFile on the successfully opened Drive now fails! does anyone know why this might be? could it have something to do with opening it with shared flags? this is always what I have done before, and its worked. could it be that something is now sharing the drive? blocking the writes? is there some way to properly "unmount" A drive, or atleast the partitions on it so that I would have exclusive access to it? some other tools that used to work don't any more either, but some do, like the WD Diagnostic's erase functionality. and after it has erased the drive, my tool then works on it too! leading me to belive there is some "unmount" process I need to be doing to the drive first, to free up permission to write to it. Any ideas?

  • HttpModule to Write Out JavaScript Script References to the Response

    - by Chris
    On my page in the Page_Load event I add a collection of strings to the Context object. I have an HttpModule that will fire EndRequest and retrieve the collection of strings. What I then do is write out a script reference tag (based on the collection of strings) to the response. The problem is that the page reads the script reference but doesn't retrieve the contents of the file (I imagine because this is occurring in the EndRequest event). I can't fire the BeginRequest event because I won't have access to the Context Items collection. I tried to also registering an HttpHandler which Processes the request of the script reference but I can't access the collection of strings in the Context.Items from there. Any suggestions? Page_Load: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Context.Items.Add("ScriptFile", "/UserControls.js"); } HttpModule: public void OnEndRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) { HttpApplication app = s as HttpApplication; object script = app.Context.Items["ScriptFile"]; app.Response.Write("<script type='text/javascript' src='" + script + "'></script>"); }

  • How can I transfer a file via XMPP using Python?

    - by Enchantner
I'm using xmpppy library for my jabber remote administration bot, but I can't find how to send/receive a file and save it inside the directory specified. The documentation is poor and there isn't any examples, but I really want to make it. Can anyone show some examples or some links about it? Or maybe I should use an alternative xmpp bindings?

  • Ways to save enums in database

    - by corgrath
Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

  • ruby write newline character to file but do not interpret as a true newline

    - by thomas
I am trying to write a ruby string to a file in such a way that any newline characters embedded in the string remain embedded. This is being written out to a file which will then be processed by another tool. An example is below. I want this: 1 [label="this is a\ntest"] \n (second \n is a true newline) I have tried this: string = '1 [label="this is a\ntest"]' + "\n" Any thoughts?

  • fwrite write an integer

    - by user149100
I'm trying to write a word to a file using this function: extern void write_int(FILE * out, int num) { fwrite(&num,sizeof(int),1, out); if(ferror(out)){ perror(__func__); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } } But I get a segmentation fault whenever it tries to run the fwrite. I looked at the man page for fwrite(3) and I feel like I used it correctly, is there something I'm missing?

  • Using python to write text files with DOS line endings on linux

    - by gaumann
I want to write text files with DOS/Windows line endings '\r\n' using python running on Linux. It seems to me that there must be a better way than manually putting a '\r\n' at the end of every line or using a line ending conversion utility. Ideally I would like to be able to do something like assign to os.linesep the separator that I want to use when writing the file. Or specify the line separator when I open the file.

  • Create PHP DOM xml file and create a save file link/prompt without writing the file to the server wh

    - by Reed Richards
I've created a PHP DOM xml piece and saved it to a string like this: <?php // create a new XML document $doc = new DomDocument('1.0'); ... ... ... $xmldata = $doc->saveXML(); ?> Now I can't use the headers to send a file download prompt and I can't write the file to the server, or rather I don't want the file laying around on it. Something like a save this file link or a download prompt would be good. How do I do it?
