• IBM Websphere on Windows- OutOfMemoryError: Failed to create a thread

  I have a J2EE application running on an IBM Websphere Application Server on a Windows Operating System. Occasionally I see an OutOfMemoryError Exception with the following information in the javacore file. 1TISIGINFO Dump Event "systhrow" (00040000) Detail "java/lang/OutOfMemoryError":"Failed to create a thread: retVal -1073741830, errno 12" received Java is run with the following configurations: -Xms512m -Xmx1350m -Xscmx50M Analyzing the javacore file, the number of threads are just 124. Analyzing the heap dump, the memory occupied by the heap is about 500Mb. Given the relatively normal number of threads and heap size a lot lower than the maximum, I am trying to figure out why I see this error? I´m not sure if this helps, but here is the top section of the javacore file...   I'm in process of migrating a JSF 1.2 application to JSF 2.x. My application is using the following APIs: maven-jetty-plugin (version 6.1.10) maven-compiler-plugin (version 2.3.1) myfaces-api & -impl (version 1.2.7) jsf-facelets (version 1.1.14) richfaces (version 3.3.3) javax servlet jstl (version 1.2) javax servlet-api (version 2.5) and some other plugins as well. I updated the versions in faces-config.xml file and removed Facelets 1.1.14 libs and replaced MyFaces 1.2 by JSF 2.x libs, however the application didn't work. • Debugging unmanaged code while debugging managed code

  Hi, The .NET 3.5 application I am working on consists of bunch of different solutions. Some of these solutions consist of managed code(C#) and others have unmanaged code(C++). Methods written in C# communicate with the ones written in C++. I am trying to trace the dependencies between these various functions and I thought setting breakpoints on the solution consisting my C++ functions. One of the C# solutions have the startup project. I run this solution in debug mode with the expectation that the breakpoints in my unmanaged code will be hit but nothing really happens. Can somebody guide me through the process of debugging mixed applications such as these using the Visual Studio IDE? Thanks

In order to use these from within a .NET 4 targetted assembly, I know you have to add useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy=true to the <startup> element within app.config. I understand that this changes the activation policy, causing these mixed-mode assemblies to be loaded using the highest supported version of the CLR. However, are there any side effects to doing this? What potential issues should I watch for when enabling the non-default activation policy?

  I am trying to write a generic extension to turn a ManagementObjectCollection into a DataTable. This is just to make things easier for a startup script/program I am writing. I have ran into a problem with CimType.   I have recently updated to Windows 7, VS2010 and IE8. We have an automation suite running tests against IE using WatiN. These tests require the logon dialog handler to be used in order to log different AD Users into the IE Browser. This works perfectly when using Windows XP and IE8, but now using Windows 7 has resulted in the Windows Security dialog box no longer being recognised, the dialogue box is just being ignored.   I've been using InnoDB for a project, and relying on auto_increment. This is not a problem for most of the tables, but for tables with deletion, this might be an issue: AUTO_INCREMENT Handling in InnoDB particularly this part: AUTO_INCREMENT column named ai_col: After a server startup, for the first insert into a table t, InnoDB executes the equivalent of this statement: SELECT MAX(ai_col) FROM t FOR UPDATE; InnoDB increments by one the value retrieved by the statement and assigns it to the column and to the auto-increment counter for the table. This is a problem because while it ensures that within the table, the key is unique, there are foreign keys to this table where those keys are no longer unique. The mysql server does/should not restart often, but this is breaking. Are there any easy ways around this?

However to prevent clutter, it'd be nice to be able to remove app specific SMS mesg's from the inbox to reduce the potential overflow of those messages. Questions on other google groups on getting a definitive answer on a programmatic way to delete SMS messages from the android inbox don't seem to be pressing. • Flexbuilder won't launch...arrrgh!

  In a panic since I'm trying to meet a deadline so appreciate any feedback on this. For some reason, Flexbuilder 3 on my mac won't launch, crashes on startup. I've never experienced this before. Checked the .log file and what seems to be the problem is the following /Users/foo/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust/flexbuilder.fbr (No such file or directory) WTF is the flexbuilder.fbr??? Googled but not much luck. The only thing I've done that might have caused this is change flash player versions system wide using the official flash player uninstaller...but obviously this should not happen Any feedback appreciated...

• portable emacs? (emacs server not working)

  I have seen a few suggestions on making emacs portable (on Windows). I have this in my site-start.el: (defvar program-dir (substring data-directory 0 -4)) (setq inhibit-startup-message t) (setenv "HOME" program-dir) I changed the HOME variable so that not only my .emacs init files (and other init files) are read, but everything generated by emacs will stay in the program directory, not needing me to specify the path for everything one by one. Well this works well but the emacs server is not working; I get error message "no connection could be made because target machine actively refused it." If I don't change my HOME var then emacs server works. Is there way to fix this?

• Hibernate Schema Validation Fails on Oracle Table Synonyms

  I'm developing a Java web application that uses Hibernate (annotations-based) for persisting entities to an Oracle 11g database. The DBA created synonyms for the tables and requested that I use these synonyms instead of the physical tables. (Eg: Table "Foo" has synonym "S_Foo") If I have "hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=validate" enabled, then the application fails on startup with "Missing Table: S_Foo". If I turn off the validation, then the app starts up fine and works properly. My guess is that Hibernate only checks against physical tables and not synonyms when validating that a table exists. Is there any way to enable Hibernate schema validation with synonyms? Can I specify both a physical table and a synonym in the annotation? I prefer having that extra safety check that the table structure is correct when the application starts up.

It seems to add OK, but the web.config is not updated, meaning I get a runtime exception: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CoolService.CoolService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. Obviously, because the service is not defined in my web.config. Steps to reproduce: Right click solution Add New Project ASP.NET Empty Web Application. Right click Service References in the new web app Add Service Reference. Enter address of my service and click Go. My service is visible in the left-hand Services section, and I can see all its operations. Type a namespace for my service. Click OK. • profiling WCF services with visual studio profiler

  I am trying to profile a WCF service using visual studio profiler. So i created a profile by choosing asp.net application, and gave it the url of the web service. When i launch the session, it launches a web page to the site. I then run my unit test using another visual studio client, but the test always fails with with communication exception, and the process that performance analyze is attached to exits out. if i run the test again, it attached the process again, but the tests still fails with communication exception. This is throwing my report off since its only accounting for the startup work that the application is supposed to do. can someone point out what i am doing wrong ?

  Several users have reported that if they launch Excel by double-clicking an Excel file, the add-in will not load. But, if they open Excel via the Start menu (or Quick launch toolbar) the add-in loads fine. Some details, in case they help: It is a COM add-in, written in VB6. The problem has been reported on Windows XP/Excel 2003 and Vista/Excel 2007 systems. The add-in implements IDTExtensibility2. The start mode is set to "Load on Startup". Any thoughts on the cause or how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.

• changing selenium domain/subdomain within cucumber scenarios

  So, I have a Rails webapp that utilizes subdomains for separating the admin functionality from the public functionality using subdomain-fu. So there is functionality(that I want to test!) contained within two urls(eg admin.example.com and www.example.com). I want some scenarios to run against the admin domain, and some against the www domain. My problem is that I cant figure out how to change the domain that selenium uses at any time after startup. I can put something like this in my env.rb: Webrat.configure do |config| config.mode = :selenium config.application_address = "admin.example.com" end And it will work, but only for the scenarios that need the admin domain. If I try something like: host! "www.example.com" inside my steps, well it seems to just be ignored by selenium, which goes on using "admin.example.com" Any ideas? Or if its not possible, any ideas for a workaround?

• TimeoutException in simultaneous calls to WCF services from Silverlight application

  Analysing log files I've noticed that ~1% of service calls ended with TimeoutException on the Silverlight client side. The services (wcf) are quite simple and do not perform long computations. According the log all calls to the services are always processed in less that 1 sec (even when TimeoutException is occurred on the client!), so it is not server timeout. So what is wrong? Can it be configuration or network problem? How can I avoid it? What additional logging information can be helpful for localizing this issue? The only one workaround I've thought up is to retry service calls after timeout. I will appreciate any help on this issue! Update: On startup the application performs 17 service calls and 12 of them simultaneously (may it be cause of failure?). Update: WCF log has not contained useful information about this issue. It seems some service calls do not reach the server side.

That being said, I am attempting to write an add-on that makes some configuration changes and needs to restart Firefox in order to have the changes take effect. I am currently restarting Firefox using the following code: var boot = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/toolkit/app-startup;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup); boot.quit(Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup.eForceQuit|Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup.eRestart); The problem is, it restarts and opens the browser window(s) to whatever the users homepage is currently set to. I want it to re-open all windows / tabs that were previously open before the restart (similar to what happens when you install a new add-on). Anyone ever messed with this type of functionality before?

• Loading WPF satellite resources dynamically

  Hello! I've read about satellite-assemblies being used in WPF localizations. However, I would like to ask if there is a way to load the satellite-assemblies without following the pre-defined directory structure that depends on the language (ex. If the system language is English, the WPF application looks for the satellite-assembly inside the "en-US" subfolder). This is because I would like to simply swap the satellite-assemblies when distributing the software package without having to create a specific folder per language that would hold the assemblies. I would just like to have the satellite-assembly and the main executable in the same directory. Is this possible and is there even an easy way to do this like simply loading the resource file on application startup once? Thanks!

• How to determine MS Access field size via OleDb

  The existing application is in C#. During startup the application calls a virtual method to make changes to the database (for example a new revision may need to calculate a new field or something). An open OleDb connection is passed into the method. I need to change a field width. The ALTER TABLE statement is working fine. But I would like to avoid executing the ALTER TABLE statement if the field is already the appropriate size. Is there a way to determine the size of an MS Access field using the same OleDb connection?

• Eclipse 3.5 switching tab is very slow

  I am using eclipse 3.5 (cocoa build) on Macos 10.5 with Java 1.5.0.19. I just have 3 java files opened 1 files ~ 2000 lines the other 2 are ~ 700 lines. But when I switch from 1 file tab to another, eclipse takes a long time (~ 20 seconds) to switch to another tab.
