  • Ubuntu 12.10, Wireless not working

    My Laptop is Acer 5742G with "Npilfy 802.11 wireless". I have both windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 Earlier when I had Ubuntu 12.04, the wireless was working fine, but after installing 12.10 wireless is not working at all, although it is still working in windows. I am not able to see "Wireless Networks" in the Network Manager nor in the Network Settings. This was the output I got for rfkill 0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: acer-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no This is a snapshot of my Additional Drivers settings. As you can see, the required driver for wireless is installed.

I used it and it works fine and installed WDSmartWare The Second time i used it,still fine,but I took it out without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" So the third time I used it,there's a bubble come out that says: USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.For assistance in solving the problem, click this message. I tried connecting it to other USB Ports but it didn't work I tried Uninstalling WDSmarWare and connect it but it didn't work Please help me I like this hard drive so much and I spoilt it easily XD P.S I think about 13% has been used up in the Hard Drive P.S.S Other USBs can work fine in the computer P.S.S.S I tried connecting it to other computer and works fine OMG

  • wireless internet in linux is very very slow... but in windows.... everythnings fine

    I'm not even sure if this is the right question, but basically I have a partition with Windows 7 on it (named Acer in my Ubuntu places menu) that I have to click on every time I start the computer in order for my music to come up in Rhythmbox, since my music is stored on the windows drive. What I want to do is have the NTFS drive "Acer" mount automatically when I start the computer, so my music is there automatically.

  • Low-profile, PCI Express, x1 video card with VGA-out?

    I just bought an Acer Aspire EasyStore H340 system (http://us.acer.com/acer/productv.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&kcond61e.c2att101=54825&sp=page16e&ctx2.c2att1=25&link=ln438e&CountryISOCtxParam=US&ctx1g.c2att92=450&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=936243954) It comes with Windows Home Server, which I don't particularly care for (too dumbed down for my liking)--I bought the box mainly for the form factor, and intend to install Server 2008 on it and have it run as a small domain controller. The geniuses at Acer however went out of their way to ensure you can only run Home Server--you can only connect to it via the Home Server Connector software, as it has no video-out whatsoever (so essentially, there's no way to even get into the BIOS). It only has a low-profile, PCI Express x1 slot. It turns out to be way harder than I thought to locate a video card that both has an x1 connector, and is low-profile (I'd really rather not snip the bracket at the back just so it'll fit the case). I know they're out there, and I've seen one with Display Port outputs, but I don't have a monitor with this connection. So to reiterate, it needs to be: - x1 connector - low profile - VGA out (though DVI would be okay; I have some spare adapters) Can anyone recommend anything at all?

    Im thinking of replacing my HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr with Acer Aspire AS5738-6444, I'm a CS student... so im torn between screen size (liking the 15in and decent gpu.. but it weight nearly 8 pounds and battery can barely last 2 hours in power saver mode) and wanting something portable to carry to classes/take notes ect (3 pounds and up to 8 hour battery life of the acer) what would you guys suggest? acer any good? i love my hp keyboard.. (or have links to other good laptops, im aiming for 600$ range?)

  • Synergy: avoid single machine loop when client is not connected

    In order to loop between my screens I have the following section in my synergy.sgc file: section: links Pedro-Acer: right = pedro-lubuntu left = pedro-lubuntu pedro-lubuntu: left = Pedro-Acer right = Pedro-Acer end With those settings When the client disconnects the server screen wraps around itself as seen in the image below. I don't want this behavior. The only reason I set the config file to loop between my screens is because I want to have a single key to switch between them: keystroke(alt+`) = switchInDirection(right) If there is way to have a single key for switching in both directions without having looping screens then that would also solve my problem.

  • Cannot boot NixOS Install CD

    I am trying to install NixOS on an Acer laptop. When I try to boot off of the install CD, the system starts up and shows the Acer logo. Then, the boot menu of the CD appears, but it only displays on the top left corner of the screen. The rest of the screen still shows the Acer logo. If I try to select "boot" from the menu, that area of the screen goes black, and nothing else happens. I tried adding "nomodeset" to the boot arguments, but that did not affect anything. Are there any other boot arguments or anything else that could fix this?

Boot via USB with an Old BIOS Dear How-To Geek, I’m trying to repurpose some old computers by updating them with lightweight Linux distros but the BIOS on most of the machines is ancient and creaky. How ancient? It doesn’t even support booting from a USB device! I have a large flash drive that I’ve turned into a master installation tool for jobs like this but I can’t use it. The computers in question have USB ports; they just aren’t recognized during the boot process. What can I do? USB Bootin’ in Boise Dear USB Bootin’, It’s great you’re working to breathe life into old hardware! You’ve run into one of the limitations of older BIOSes, USB was around but nobody was thinking about booting off of it. Fortunately if you have a computer old enough to have that kind of BIOS it’s likely to also has a floppy drive or a CDROM drive. While you could make a bootable CDROM for your application we understand that you want to keep using the master USB installer you’ve made. In light of that we recommend PLoP Boot Manager. Think of it like a boot manager for your boot manager. Using it you can create a bootable floppy or CDROM that will enable USB booting of your master USB drive. Snapping Windows to Preset Coordinates Dear How-To Geek, Once upon a time I had a company laptop that came with a little utility that snapped windows to preset areas of the screen. This was long before the snap-to-side features in Windows 7. You could essentially configure your screen into a grid pattern of your choosing and then windows would neatly snap into those grids. I have no idea what it was called or if was anymore than a gimmick from the computer manufacturer, but I’d really like to have it on my new computer!   • libreoffice on Mint14 problem : save as 2003 doc

    When saving a doc file (MS office 2003) as a doc file, libreoffice crashes and the file without any updates goes into recovery mode ... I installed mint14 from scratch and did not modify anything the odd thing with mint13 and libreoffice, there is no problem (save as works fine) with an upgraded mint14, there is no problem (save as works fine) this happed on acer one d522 machine and a no-name PC (amd based) both are running a 64 bit version of mint (virgin install) the other machines : - acer X1370 upgraded mint14 and - a dell 1520 (mint13 out of the box) do not show this proble please help... something I forgot or a bug?   • My hardware needs a module to be blacklisted to work, how can I get this fix shipped?

    I have an Acer Timeline 1830T. When I install 10.10 and 11.04 it needs to have the acer-wmi module blacklisted for wireless to work. I think I need to file a bug on the linux kernel but I am not sure. I've heard the term "quirk" being thrown around by developers when it comes to fixing something so that it works on certain pieces of hardware. Is this indeed a kernel bug? What steps should I take to ensure that this gets reported so that everyone with my laptop doesn't have to go through this over and over?

    Hi, i'm trying to set up fstab to automatically connect to my office shared server. I'm undoubtedly doing something silly here as the username and password and server name work fine in the first code snippet below, just not the second - any help would be appreciated!
