  Hi there, I have two tables. The first one holds information about cities: Locations: locID | locationID | locationName | countryCode | 1 | 2922239 | Berlin | de | 2 | 291074 | Paris | fr | 3 | 295522 | Orlando | us | 3 | 292345 | Tokyo | jp | There is a second table, which holds alternative names for locations. There might be NO alternative name for a location in the Locations table: AlternateNames: altNameID | locationID | alternateName | 1 | 2922239 | Berlino | 2 | 2922239 | Berlina | 3 | 291074 | Parisa | 4 | 291074 | Pariso | 5 | 295522 | Orlandola | 6 | 295522 | Orlandolo | What I would like to get is the locationID, name and the countryCode of a location for a location name search like "Berlin", or "Ber": | locationID | name | countryCode | | 2922239 | Berlin | de | However, if the user searches for "Berlino", I would like to get the alternateName back: | locationID | name | countryCode | | 2922239 | Berlino | de | The "locationName" has a higher priority than the alternateName, if the searchterm matches both. I can't figure out how to build a query to do that. Since the name can come from one of the two tables, it seems quite difficult to me. Any help is really appreciated!

• Double-byte characters in querystring using PHP

  I'm trying to figure out how to create personalized urls for double-byte languages. For example, this url from Amazon Japan has Japanese characters within the querystring (specifically, the path): http://www.amazon.co.jp/????????-DVD-???/dp/B00005R5J3/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1269891925&sr=8-3 What I would like to do is have: http://www.mysite.com/???????? or even http://www.mysite.com/index.php?name=???????? be able to properly decode the $GET[name] string. I think I have tried all of the urldecode and utf8_decode possibilities, but I just get gibberish in response. This all works fine in a form $_POST, but I need these urls to be emailable...

• Rendering plain text through PHP

  Hi, For some reason, I want to serve my robots.txt via a PHP script. I have setup apache so that the robots.txt file request (infact all file requests) come to a single PHP script. The code I am using to render robots.txt is: echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; However, it is not processing the newlines. How to server robots.txt correctly, so search engines (or any client) see it properly? Do I have to send some special headers for txt files? EDIT: Now I have the following code: header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; which still does not display newlines (see http://sarcastic-quotes.com/robots.txt ).   Hi I am getting DateString in JavaScript from the TextBox like, var dateString = document.getElementById('<%= txtEffDate.ClientID %>').value; dateString value may be in following format. en-US - "4/29/2010" fr-FR - "29/04/2010" de-DE - "29.04.2010" it-IT - "29/04/2010" es-ES - "29/04/2010" zh-CN - "2010/4/29" ja-JP - "2010/04/29" sv-SE - "2010-04-29" And converting this to Date Object as follows, var d1 = new Date(dateString); though its giving me the wrong result like for fr-FR "29/04/2010" == "Fri May 4 00:00:00 UTC+0530 2012" Which is completely irrelevant, How should I get the correct Date ? • Python Mersenne Twister implementation

  I have Python 3.1.2 and I'm using Windows XP. Where can I see Python's implementation of the Mersenne Twister? In the Python docs it is stated that the Mersenne Twister was written in C and the Python History and License ( http://docs.python.org/py3k/license.html?highlight=mersenne%20twister ) states that "The _random module includes code based on a download from http://www.math.keio.ac.jp/matumoto/MT2002/emt19937ar.html." random.py imports _random which apparently has the Mersenne Twister implementation in it. I can't seem to locate _random. Any thoughts?

  Hello all, I've got a open graph page with a like button, activity feed, etc. I want to be able to post programmatically. The open graph docs says it's possible via the old stream.publish api. I've got a meta tag pointing to my facebook application, but the stream publish api doesn't seem to be able to post. This is what i'm posting via the api: { message='Hello facebook', target_id='ID via curl 'https://graph.facebook.com/?ids', 'uid'='application_id' } I keep getting: "error_code":101,"error_msg":"Invalid API key" What am I missing? • eclipse gcov plugin

  I am using gcov plugin in Eclipse CDT + cygwin compiler & linker to find code coverage. I installed gcov plugin from http://svn.sourceforge.jp/svnroot/ginkgo/trunk/org.ginko.gcov.update/ location and follow the below link to get coverage of my .c file. I was able to create .gcno and .gcda files. But double clicking on those files, opens the files in eclipse editor. I could not find the gcov editor. Also I couldn't see any code coverage results in my .c file. What is the wrong with my procedure?

• Views jump during ViewDidLoad

  Hi, I have a custom button, subclassed from UIButton that is initialised as below (obviously all the button does is use a custom font). @implementation HWButton - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)decoder { if (self = [super initWithCoder: decoder]) { [self.titleLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName: @"eraserdust" size: self.titleLabel.font.pointSize]]; } return self; } So far so good. But when I use the custom class in my nib and launch the app, the button initially displays for a split second as tiny with small text, then grows. So the outcome is what I want, but I don't want to see the transition. Can anyone put me right? Thanks. JP

• SPARQL UNION - Result set incomplete

  I have two queries: query 1: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE { ?s1 ?somep1 <predicate_one-uri>. ?s1 ?p ?o} query 2: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE {?s2 ?somep2 <predicate_two-uri>.?s2 ?p ?o.} Each query gives me a different result set (as expected). I need to make a union of these two sets, from what I understand the query below should give me the set I want: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE { { ?s1 ?somep1 <predicate_one-uri>.?s1 ?p1 ?o} UNION {?s2 ?somep2 <predicate_two-uri>.?s2 ?p2 ?o.} } The problem is that some results from query 1 are not in the union set and vice-versa for query 2. The union is not working properly as it does not incorporate all results of query 1 and query 2. Please advise on the proper structure of the sparql query for achieving the desired result set.   Hi, I am no expert in network security, so pardon if this question is not very smart :). I am automating logins to some machines using ssh. I am currently avoiding host-key warnings using StrictHostKeyChecking no. I naively understand that someone can impersonate as the server and I risk losing my password to him if that were the case. However, if I am using only public/private Key based authentication ( using PasswordAuthentication no ), can the intruder still cause harm? So basically, with ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" -o "PasswordAuthentication no" : 1) Can the intruder decipher my private key? 2) Are there any other security threats? regards, JP

• Override transparency color when converting transparent PNG to JPG

  I'm using Dragonfly to generate thumbnail images in a Rails app. I'm serving all picture images as JPG's. Now the client is uploading transparent PNG files, like this one: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/images/eg2010/ART120_TRF_12_02.png Dragonfly uses RMagick to convert these images to JPG. The problem is that it converts the PNG images to JPG with a black background, and my site's design requires a white background. I've tried to override it like this: encoded_image = Magick::Image.from_blob(image.data).first if encoded_image.format.downcase == format image # do nothing else encoded_image.format = format encoded_image.background_color = "white" encoded_image.transparent_color = "white" encoded_image.to_blob end But the produced JPG images still contain a black background. Does anyone know how to beat RMagick into using a white background when converting the transparent layer? I know I could just serve as PNG, but then the images are 10 times as large, and the site is already pretty bandwidth heavy.

  Hi there people, I am currently relearning Ocaml and am in the need of a good editor. There is a new editor from OcamlForge: OCamlEditor http://ocamleditor.forge.ocamlcore.org/. Prerequisite for installation is Lablgtk2. Installing Lablgtk2 on windows is not straight forward and there is good instruction here: http://wwwfun.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/soft/lsl/install-win32.txt I have completed the first two steps and in the third step, as warned, it is failing on the native code version. This is where I am left stranded. How do I check to see if the assembler is on my path? What am I missing here? Please help me move forward from this point. Sincere thanks. Animesh

• Php efficiency question --> Database call vs. File Write vs. Calling C++ executable

  Hi, What I wish to achieve is - log all information about each and every visit to every page ofmy website (like ip address, browser, referring page, etc). Now this is easy to do. What I am interested is doing this in a way so as to cause minimum overhead (runtime) in the php scripts. What is the best approach for this efficiency-wise: 1) Log all information to a database table 2) Write to a file (from php directly) 3) Call a C++ executable, that will write this info to a file in parallel [so the script can continue execution without waiting for the file write to occur ...... is this even possible] I may be trying to optimize unnecessarily/prematurely, but still - any thoughts / ideas on this would be appreciated. (I think efficiency of file write/logging can really be a concern if I have say 100 visits per minute...) Thanks & Regards, JP

• Dreamweaver utf-8 encoded php page displays wrong chinese character in IE and Chrome, correct in FF

  I have an issue with character encoding: I have this page: http://www.studiomille.jp/class/ (its in japanese but the character in question is from chinese i think) FF shows it correctly, IE (all versions) and Chrome doesn't (sorry larger screenshots): FF Screenshot: IE Screenshot: (there are other character that are different throughout the site, this is just one example) Everything is set to UTF-8: * PHP sends header: Content-Type:text/html; charset=UTF-8 * PHP starts with: mb_language('uni'); mb_internal_encoding('UTF-8'); * meta tag: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> * all files are saved with UTF-8 encoding with DreamWeaver CS3 * the same font is used in all the browsers. On that page nothing comes from the db, everything is hard coded. The site has the same behavior on my localhost too. So why only FF gets it right and how can I make it work on IE also?

• what is the right 'rails' way to add a link_to a new custom method

  We're adding a new method 'delete_stuff' to the WidgetsController of a scaffolded app. in routes we added match 'widget/delete_stuff/:id' = 'widgets#delete_stuff' I CAN manually create html (GET) links like <a href="/widget/delete_stuff/<% widget.id %>">My Custom Delete Stuff</a> But that's bad on so many levels (uses GET instead of DELETE, doesn't permit a CONFIRM dialog, isnt DRY, etc) Problem is I can't figure out how to use the url helpers for a custom method... trying to do something like this: <% link_to 'DeleteStuff', @widget, :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete %> But that just gets ignored when the html is rendered. I'm clearly missing something fundamental on how to use link_to, any help will be appreciated! Cheers, JP

  I'm using amazon japan, using ItemLookup. We already have the EAN numbers (used as ItemId). It was working well until we need to modify the SalesRank. The previous SalesRank returned is for the whole SearchIndex, ex: Books, Music, etc. What we want is to get the SalesRank for a specific BrowseNode. I don't know but it seems that it is not implemented on Amazon US. For example: http: // www . amazon . com / Slackware-Essentials-Cantrell-Johnson-Lumens/dp/1571763384/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276142663&sr=1-1 The book above only shows the SalesRank (Bestsellers Rank) but on Japan Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.jp/Slackware-Linux-Dummies/dp/0764506897/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=english-books&qid=1276142708&sr=1-4 It shows SalesRank for other three different BrowseNodes. We need to get the SalesRank for a specific BrowseNode for a given ItemId or by any other means. Any ideas guys? TIA

• Failure retrieving contents of directory

  Currently I have a couple of websites. My problem is that if I login on 1 specific domain with any of my programs (using notepadd++, FileZilla and Netbeans) the program stops at the content listing. I had it correctly running, (I'm working on a project on this domain for more than a year now) and suddenly I broke it somehow. This only happens on 1 specific domain, all other domains (from other hosts) are working. My colleague (next to me with same ip address) is able to login on this domain. Notepadd++ says: Failure retrieving contents of directory Filezilla says: Failed to retrieve directory listing Netbean popups: Upload files on save failed. (Because I have the setting upload on save enabled.) What I tried: First I thought it's my firewall, I disabled firewall but no result. Also notice that all other domain are working. Maby a blacklist with my ip address? No my colleague has the same ip address. Could anyone help me on this? • Ubuntu 12.04 share the internet over WiFi from wvdial?

  I have just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a separate partition on my hard drive so I can dual boot to either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I am living in Japan and so I'm using a mobile broadband USB device called "Softbank C02LC". By default it seems that this device isn't recognised so I did the following: Terminal: sudo su nano /usr/bin/usbModemScript Nano: #!/bin/bash echo 1c9e 9900 > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id Terminal: chmod +x /usr/bin/usbModemScript nano /etc/udev/rules.d/option.rules Nano: ATTRS{idVendor}=="1c9e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="9900", RUN+="/usr/bin/usbModemScript" ATTRS{idVendor}=="1c9e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="9900", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe option" which made the device visible from the network manager etc. However even though I set up my details correctly when I created a new connection (Correct username, APN etc) as soon as I try to connect it almost immediately disconnects. Because of this I then followed the instructions at this site: http://debugitos.main.jp/index.php?Ubuntu%2F%A5%E2%A5%D0%A5%A4%A5%EB%A5%A4%A5%F3%A5%BF%A1%BC%A5%CD%A5%C3%A5%C8 And I ended up using the c02lc_connect script at the bottom of the page to connect to the internet. But we also have 1 more laptop here which I need to share the internet connection with. In Windows 7 I do this with the Connectify program, and in Ubuntu I have seen that you can do things like set up hotspots etc. But because I am using WvDial I am not sure how I would share the internet. I am only beginning to use Ubuntu but unfortunately until I can figure out how to share the internet over WiFi when connected via WvDial I have to stick with Windows. If you have any ideas on how to do this it would be much appreciated!

• How can I set up Friendly URL to Nginx?

  I'm trying to use dokuwiki with its Friendly URL on Nginx. The problem that I'm facing is, it doesn' show correct path to any link(even stylesheet, and images) on every page It looks that paths are missing wiki/ part. If I click on the image and show its destination, it shows this url http://foo-sample.com/lib/tpl/dokuwiki/images/logo.png But it has to be this below. http://foo-sample.com/wiki/lib/tpl/dokuwiki/images/logo.png and login URL is not working either. If I click on login link, it takes me to http://foo-sample.com/wiki/start?do=login&sectok=ff7d4a68936033ed398a8b82ac9 and it says 404 Not Found I took a look at this https://www.dokuwiki.org/rewrite#nginx and tried as much as possible. However it still doesn't work. Here's my conf files.
