• why can't i boot from cd rom?

  my xp sp3 o/s system is alread set to boot from cd rom 1st, but once the bootable cd is found and i get the "Press any key to Load " (or something like that) my keyboard and mouse will not work until windows begins to load. Any ideas on why and what the fix may be?

• Media Center keeps re-recording movies (not listed in "Series")

  When I record a movie in Windows Media Center, it records it again every time it shows up in the Guide listings again - days, weeks, or months later. The movies are not listed as a Series (Recorded TV - Schedules - Series). I found many matches for this problem on Google, and no solutions. Windows XP SP3 w/all current updates; MCE 2005 w/all current updates.

• How to increase frequency of time server synchronisations?

  I have a that PC (Windows XP SP3) keeps losing time whereby it ends up being about 5 mins slow per day from all the other PCs and clocks about the place. Is there a way to increase frequency of time server synchronisations to keep this in check? Or better yet, a reason for this issue, perhaps some recent windows update has this side effect I wouldn't know.

• Windows XP: saving large files on network share stalls

  When I transfer larger files (a few hundred MB) on a network share (either Buffalo LinkStation or other Windows machine) from my Windows XP Pro SP3, it always stalls. Smaller files are no problem, reading from a network share is also no problem. I already had this problem on my notebook and now on my desktop machine, so I assume that it most likely is no driver problem. Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem — or better: the solution?

• Sysinternal's Process Explorer v14 doesn't show network activity

  The new version of Process Explorer shows network activity history, but it doesn't in one of my computers. This particular PC runs Windows XP SP3 and it has just been reformatted so everything is "fresh". I have even installed WinPCap and Microsoft Network monitor, in case some of these drivers were necessary, but the graph stays in 0. Any ideas why this could happen? I would ask in Sysinternal's forum, but I really don't want to register in yet another forum.

  I'm running Windows XP SP3. After automatic updates are installed, there shows up an annoying pop-up window every 10 minutes that tells me whether I want to restart the machine now or later. This interrupts my work as it pops up in the middle of an important process. I don't want to disable automatic updates.   I am on windows xp sp3 and I am trying to convert a file from ASCII to UTF-8. I use notepad++ to do this. I go to Encoding Convert to UTF-8 without BOM. I save the file, reopen and it is still on ASCII. I am using this file in a webpage and I need the file to be UTF-8, because I have strings in utf-8 and they am seeing little squares with ? on them.

  I open these applications in my desktop computer: Visual Studio 2010 Professional IBM Lotus Notes Google Chrome And when it is idle for an hour and I restore the windows, the user interface responds very slowly. My computer auto-lock itself after being idle for 5 minutes. I also minimize the applications using a docklet (RocketDock). Why is it slowing down and how can I prevent it from slowing?
