  • SocketException (Timeout) only when running as scheduled task

    I'm running a C# web-scrapper application (that I wrote) on a Windows Server 2003 instance under a user belonging to the local Administrator group. When I run it within a desktop/remote-desktop session the application runs successfully but when I schedule it to run under the same user/security-context outside of the desktop session, all socket connections timeout. The scheduled task calls a batch file which in-turn calls the application. The Windows Server 2003 instance has a very basic configuration and isn't even connected to a domain. I cannot find anything in any firewall or security configuration which is preventing this but maybe I have overlooked something, can anyone be of any assistance?   • Configure IIS Web Site for alternate Port and receive Access Permission error

    When I configure IIS to run a Web site on Port 1414, I get the following error: --------------------------- Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager --------------------------- The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020) However, as according to netstat the port is not in use. Completely aside from IIS, I wrote a test program (just to open the port and test it): TcpListener tcpListener; tcpListener = new TcpListener(IPAddress.Any, port); try { tcpListener.Start(); Console.WriteLine("Press \"q\" key to quit."); ConsoleKeyInfo key; do { key = Console.ReadKey(); } while (key.KeyChar != 'q'); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } tcpListener.Stop(); The result was an exception and the following ex.Message: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions The port was available but its "access permissions" are not allowing me access. This remains after several restarts. The port is not reserved or in use as far as I know and while IIS says it is in use, netstat and my test program say it is not and my test program receives the error that I am not allowed to access the port. The test program ran elevated. The IIS Site is running MQSeries, but the MQ listener also cannot start on port 1414 because of this issue. A quick search of my registry found nothing interesting for port 1414. What are socket access permissions and how can I correct mine to allow access?

    I bought a domain that had various subdomains such as Kim.domain.com/whatever john.domain.com/whatever1 Lizo.domain.com/whatever2 Simon.domain.com/whatever1 And this was in the thousands, and also had links to these pages I'd like to do a 301 redirect for all these urls into http://domain.com Any idea how this could be done? This is for a apache web server and needs to be done via .htaccess I have implemented the solution from reading the answer below. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www. domain.com$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$ RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http:/ / www. domain.com/$1 [L,R=301] However I have a slight problem, I would like to redirect all subdomains + subfolders to http://www. domain.com/ With the exception of http: //domain. com/subfolder/, in which case I would like to redirect to http: // www.domain. com/subfolder/ [i.e. exception for no subdomain] I'm guessing I need to add an exception, what can I do to implement this. Note: example URLs above have had spaces added to them to prevent spam blocks for blocking the post.

    I like to have my user folder on a different drive (D:) than my OS is (C:). Reading the following post I decided to give it a try. All went quite well, untill I found out that my Windows 8 Apps won't execute anymore (other than that I didn't noticed any problems). My apps do work, while using an account that isn't moved.     I was have WSS 2.0 and then I upgraded to WSS 3.0 and the old instalation database was SQL 2000, now I have another SQL Server instance called:server_name\MICROSOFT##SSEE . After upgrade every thing works fine and our team started to use the portal and we sent lot of documents and make lot of activities on it. The problem started after installing Windows updates the website suddenly stopped and giving me an error "Cannot connect to the configuration database" If I tried to open SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it is gives me a strange error says: "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown. Additional exception information: SharePoint Products and Technologies cannot be configured. The current installation mode does not support SKU to SKU upgrades because there exists an older version of Windows SharePoint Services that must be upgraded first " At this post:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/114398/iis-error-cannot-connect-to-the-configuration-database/249494#249494 the guy of the second answer have the same problem and he suggested a solution but I don't understand well. I tried as he suggested to make the identity of the app pool of the SharePoint web site as "IWAM_server_name " after that the error changed as he said and I web site give me "Server Application Unavailable " and when checked the Event Viewer at the server I found that ASP.NET 2.0 give this exception: "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied ." and I don't know how to solve this problem. I'm really want to make my web site working because our team really need these documents and its stuff. I hope I will find some one to help me.

    Word seemingly randomly crashes in an application setting where it is first being used to programmatically databind (bookmarks) and then directly afterwards opened on the user machine for further user input. The error message is quite precise but the workaround has eluded me. Word crashes a moment or two after it has been opened on the user machine with the below exception details. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: WINWORD.EXE Application Version: 14.0.6129.5000 Application Timestamp: 5082f354 Fault Module Name: wwlib.dll Fault Module Version: 14.0.6129.5000 Fault Module Timestamp: 5082f3dc Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000eed32 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.16.7 Locale ID: 1030 Additional information about the problem: LCID: 1030 skulcid: 1030 Sometimes one can run the exact same scenario 50 times before experiencing a crash, other times only a few times. We have tried using different versions of the Word format as well as renaming the databound file after saving so that the file being opened on the user machine is different. Principally Word should never crash but perhaps there is some workaround that can make Word not crash. Googling for a solution there appears to be multiple things that can trigger this bug.

  • Compatibility of Fedora install on a Hybrid drive

    I recently bought un ultrabook with a 500gb/32gb sdd hdd hybrid drive, and I'm having trouble replacing windows on it with fedora seventeen. it errors out saying there was an unhandled exception. Is linux compatible with hybrid drives? or can the operating system on a hybrid drive not be replaced? Edit: here are the steps I select special storage devices because it ignores my hard drives otherwise at this point i get the message: "Disk contains bios raid meta data, disk sda will be ignored" I can pick a hostname, select my timezone and set a password at the install type screen, no matter what I select (use all free space, replace linux systems, create custom partition etc..) once I click next, it says "an unhandled exception" has occured. and I can no longer proceed with installation. There may be a firewall with ports that need opening between the machines which I am checking with our sys admins now. But I can do a regular ping between the machines. Other than that I am reading a lot of articles talking about OS services and components I know nothing about and am having trouble finding any info on. Can anyone shed any light on this? FYI the machine is running Windows Server 2003 RS SP2.

Svcutil is not magic, it is written in .Net and programatically generating the proxies. Has anyone written an alternate to svcutil or point me to directions so that I can write one.

Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers: My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however. Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. Any suggestions in the meantime would be very welcome! Also, I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008? Thanks!

A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. I expected VS to avoid this problem, but I had no luck there, it complained about all the unsigned references, so I created a separate "WCF Service Library" project inside my solution containing only code above and signed that one. At this point entire solution compiled just okay. And here's my problem: When I fired up "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I was able to add new behavior element extension (say "AuthExtension"), but then when I tried to add that extension to my end point behavior it gives me: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. EDIT: I'd also like to match a blank string.
