  • Proper HTML technique to create an web form out of an image

    I plan to create an interactive golf score card for my website (XHTML). (Btw. thats how such a scorecard looks like: ScoreCard). So at the end one should be able to insert a score for each hole in the appropriated input field in the virtual scorecard on the website. For me it is very important that the interactive scorecard really looks the same as the original (paper-) scorecard does and so my first approach was to scan and slice the scorecard image to reach that appearance. Here you can see the way I sliced the image: The idea was to insert HTML text input for each score field ending up with something like this: After I sliced the image I reconstructed it using the HTML . To do that I put the image slices as the cell background. <table> <tr> <td style="background: url("slice1.jpg") width="58px" height="25px"> <input type="text"></inputText> </td> </tr> ... </table> At the first moment this worked fine (as Gimp offers quite a nice feature for this). Then the problem was that I had to create a HTML table to create the exact layout. As you can see the lower part of the layout is split up into 3 columns. The middle column is split up into several (for each hole) rows. So the left and right column have to be spanned over those rows. Ok finally that worked, but it lead to some kind of scaling problem. If I zoom in or out on the table the middle column (and only that one) is not scaled the right way. Iam not able to fix this, and so I start doubting if this is the right technique for html image virtualization. Iam really no specialist in the area of creating websites, so I would really appriciate any help on this. Maybe there is a complete other and better technique to do that, as I think it is a common job in webcreation. I couldnt find any nice examples or tuts on that.

    Is it possible to create a Line in XAML (without any C# code behind) to align a line inside of a layout container such as a Grid? I'd like to effectively have: <Grid> <Line StrokeThickness="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Stroke="Red"/> </Grid> I need to use StrokeDashArray and StrokeDashOffset, otherwise I would just use a Border control with the BorderThickness set to "0,0,0,1"...   • how to update an Android ListActivity on changing data of the connected SimpleCursorAdapter

    I have the following code. What I want to achieve is to update the shown list when I click an entry so I can traverse through the list. I found the two uncommented ways to do it here on stackoverflow, but neither works. I also got the advice to create a new ListActivity on the data update, but that sounds like wasting resources? EDIT: I found the solution myself. All you need to do is call "SimpleCursorAdapter.changeCursor(new Cursor);".   • How to make html image clickable inside a TextView

    I have the following text in a string in the resources file: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">&lt;img src="mail_big" /&gt;</a> It shows the image fine (I implemented ImageGetter) but it is not clickable. I have tried adding the Linkify thingy but I don't think it's meant for this case, and so it doesn't work. The setMovementMethod doesn't work either. I have tried different combinations of the above: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">&lt;img src="mail_big" /&gt;hello</a> Here, even the "hello" part is not clickable (neither blue nor underlined). <a href="mailto:[email protected]"><img src="mail_big" /></a> This doesn't even show the image. &lt;a href="mailto:[email protected]"&gt;&lt;img src="mail_big" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; If I just write the email, without the <a> tag it works perfectly, but I would like to use the image of an envelope that the user can click on. It's not possible to use an imagebutton because this text is in the middle of a string and so I can't split it. Any ideas? Thanks! EDIT: I found a solution or rather found how to do it correctly. All I had to do was adding the setMovementMethod call before the call to setText in the TextView and ALSO, and COMPLETELY NECESSARY, remove the attribute "android:autoLink="all" from the layout. Apparently, parsing mails and urls in a string is mutually exclusive to interpreting the link tags in a string. So one or the other but not both. Finally my layout is just a TextView with nothing special, just width and height. The activity is like this: TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.about_text); tv.setMovementMethod(LinkMovementMethod.getInstance()); tv.setText(Html.fromHtml(getString(R.string.about_content), new ImageGetter(), null)); And the string is like this: <string name="about_content"><a href="mailto:[email protected]"><img src="mail" /></a></string>

    I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?

  • Android: onListItemClick not getting called in ListActivity

    I'm having problems with my first Android app. I have subclassed ListActivity, and I'm having no luck getting the overridden onListItemClick() to respond to click events. I've read focus can be a problem, but changing focus in the XML files does not seem to work. Here's the relevant bits of code.   • What's the best way to tell if the mouse is over a form or not?

    I figured out how to capture mouse clicks over the entire form, but this method doesn't translate well for MouseEnter and MouseLeave. My form layout is made up from many Panels and TableLayoutPanels so there's no all-encompassing control I can monitor events for, and obviously a MouseLeave event for a button doesn't mean the cursor left the entire form. Has anyone figured out a good way to get around this?

    Simple as that: I have some inputs that are rendered inside another form element, but I want to submit then individually. I tried "serializing" the div that contains them, but it didn't work. Is there an easy way to do this?     I have an unordered list and each li makes up one item in a two column layout: col1 col2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 I need to have an alternating background colour for each item BUT NOT so each item in one column is the same. So : 1,4,5,8,9,11 will have one colour; and 2,3,6,7,10,12 will have another colour. Can this be achieved with one :nth-child rule? Thanks!

  • disable horizontal scrolling by finger swipe

    This may just be a mac issue, but I have a page with an element which is twice the size of the page and is moved into view dynamically. in my css I have overflow-x:hidden set so that this element won't create an ugly bottom scollbar, the problem is on my laptop (and probably on ipads and other devices) I can just swipe with two fingers to scroll and view this content. This breaks the whole layout and looks really bad, and I am looking for a way to completely disable this horizontal scrolling action with javascript or css. Thank you

    I am relatively new to website design and specifically working in ASP.NET, i am using CSS to style my site, but when i use ASP.NET Controls like GridView, Navigation controls, etc ... they are messed up by the style sheets, and you can't see that until you run the website, because the controls are translated to HTML and so affected by CSS in a way that you can't predict, how to solve this, and is there a better way to layout and desgin sites in ASP.NET.

    I wrote a simple Qt application (Windows+Mac) that uses QtWebKit to render a web site inside a window. But I already saw differences in layout and behavior between our app and Chrome (that uses WebKit as well), e.g.: - different fonts are displayed for the same web page - an html anchor link with "javascript:someFunction()" is not working Is there somewhere a summary list of all such differences (not the entire QtWebKit bug list)? Also: is there a way to use a WebKit version more similar to Chrome in my application?
