  • Why is giving a fixed width to a label an accepted behavior?

    There are a lot of questions about formatting forms so that labels align, and almost all the answers which suggest a pure CSS solution (as opposed to using a table) provide a fixed width to the label element. But isn't this mixing content and presentation? In order to choose the right width you basically have to see how big your longest label is and try a pixel width value until "it fits". This means that if you change your labels you also have to change your CSS.

    I was hoping it was as easy as referencing my existing libraries to use them with WP7. However, it complains about not able to load them because of .Net CF when I actually use them. Do i need to recompile them to .NET CF or something? I thought the big plus of WP7 was: leveraging your existing codebase...? How can I leverage my existing codebase if I need to strip everything out of it and maintain multiple versions?

    hey, I'm trying to programming a crossword creator. using a given dictionary txt file and a given pattern txt file. The basic idea is using DFS algorithm. the problem begin when the dictionary file is v-e-r-y big (about 50000 words). then i recive the : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded i know that there is a part in my program that waists memory, but i don't know where it is, how to find it and how to fix it

I would like to know if there is a way to get the preview used by windows explorer. For example windows explorer creates a small thumbnail for a pdf document for example, and displays it when the user chooses to view "big icons". Is there a way to retrieve that preview?     So far I've only build "small" graphical applications, using swing and JComponents as I learned at school. Yet I can't bear ugly JButtons anymore. I've tried to play with the different JButton methods, like changing colors, putting icons etc. but I'm still not satisfied. How do you make a nicer GUI in java ? I'm looking for not-too-heavy alternatives (like, without big frameworks or too complicated libraries).

There are also problems with little/big edian, so what would be a good way to do this?     Hi there. I'm having a big problem when calling a web service from my WPF application. The application/window locks until the process has completed. I've attempted to run this asynchronously but the problem still persists. Currently, the web service call I'm making can last 45-60 seconds. It runs a process on the server to fetch a big chunk of data. As it take a little while I wanted to have a progress bar moving indeterminately for the user to see that the application hasn't stalled or anything (you know how impatatient they get).     Our application tends to be running very slow recently. On debugging and tracing found out that the process is showing high cpu cycles and SQL Server shows high I/O activity. Can you please guide as to how it can be optimised? The application is now about an year old and the database file sizes are not very big or anything. The database is set to auto shrink. Its running on win2003, SQL Server 2005 and the application is a web application coded in c# i.e vs2005
