• Everytime i am trying to connect to my box using SSH, its failing not connecting

  From any other PC doing SSH to my Ubuntu 11.10,is failing. My network setup: Telenet ISP (Belgium) Fiber cable < RJ45 cable straight to Ubuntu PC Even the SSH is running: Other PC: retrying over and over $ ping 192.168.0.128 PING 192.168.0.128 (192.168.0.128) 56(84) bytes of data. • Configure WebCenter PS5 with WebCenter Content - Bad Example

  I opened JDeveloper, created a content repository connection with all the required fields. While testing the connection, the connection became successful. But while navigating to the Webcenter Content Connection, I am ( Always use past tense ) getting the following error. Notice the inconsistency in the image resolutions SEVERE: Could not list contents of folder with ID = dCollectionID:-1oracle.stellent.ridc.protocol.ServiceException: No service defined for COLLECTION_DISPLAY. To solve the issue, please find the following the steps in Webcenter Content. 1. Login into webcenter content : https://<hostname>:<port number>/cs 2. Click on 'Administration' and select 'Admin Server' 3. This will open a new window in browser, please select 'Component Manager'. 4. In the right side window, please click on 'Advanced component manager' 5. We can see all the enabled and disabled features. The main problem for this error is folders_g is not enabled and Framework folders might have enabled. But for creating a connection with webcenter portal framework or with webcenter spaces, we need folders_g, then only we will get Contribution folder. 6. come to the enabled feature session, select Framework folders and disable it. 7. Come to the disabled feature session, select folders_g in the list and enable it. 8. Restart the Webcenter content node. 9. Login into webcenter content system, go to 'Browse Content' menu. If we are able to see 'Contribution Folder' the problem is solved. ( Avoid dubious sentences ) We can configure webcenter content with Webcenter portal framework or with webcenter spaces.

• Facilitating XNA game deployments for non programmers

  I'm currently working on an RPG, using the RPG starter kit from XNA as a base. (http://xbox.create.msdn.com/en-US/education/catalog/sample/roleplaying_game) I'm working with a small team (two designers and one music/sound artist), but I'm the only programmer. Currently, we're working with the following (unsustainable) system: the team creates new pics/sounds to add to the game, or they modify existing sounds/pics, then they commit their work to a repository, where we keep a current build of everything. (Code, images, sound, etc.) Every day or so, I create a new installer, reflecting the new images, code changes, and sound, and everyone installs it. My issue is this: I want to create a system where the rest of the team can replace the combat sounds, for instance, and they can immediately see the changes, without having to wait for me to build. The way XNA's setup, if I publish, it encodes all of the image and sound files, so the team can't "hot swap." I can set up Microsoft VS on everyone's machine and show them how to quickly publish, but I wanted to know if there was a simpler way of doing this. Has anyone come up against this when working with teams using XNA?

  I have sympathy for ‘Softies who don’t like the controversial ‘Metro’ UI changes but are afraid to say so. After all, who wants to commit a CLM (Career-Limiting Move) by declaring that the Emperor has no clothes (or gradients) and that ALL CAPS IN MENUS ARE DUMB? Talk about power! Here’s a higher-up (anyone got a name?) who has enforced a flat, monochrome, uninteresting user interface in Visual Studio 2012  that has been damned with faint praise by consumers. The pushback must have been enormous. Some ‘Softies disengage from the raging debate with, “It’s not my decision” while others feebly point out that the addition of some colour pixels in the icons is a real improvement over the beta version. True, I guess. With the UI pretty much locked, its down to repairing the damage. Fortunately, some Empire dissident has leaked the news to a blogger that  those SHOUTING CAPs aren’t hardcoded afterall: How To Prevent Visual Studio 2012 ALL CAPS Menus And so it goes. By RTM, I’m sure there will be many more add-ons to help us ‘de-Metro’ VS 2012 and recreate our favourite Visual Studio 2010 themes for it.

• Firefox 4 crashing in VNC

  On my desktop PC I've been using Kubuntu 10.04 for about a year. Recently I've updated Firefox to version 4 using aptitude and the mozilla-team/firefox-stable repository. Since then, I can't run it when I'm logged in through a VNC session. Firefox crashes immediately: when I try to run it from the console I get this error: ###!!! ABORT: X_ShmPutImage: BadShmSeg (invalid shared segment parameter); 3 requests ago: file /build/buildd/firefox-4.0.1+build1+nobinonly/build-tree/mozilla/toolkit/xre/nsX11ErrorHandler.cpp, line 203 ###!!! • Debugging/Logging Techniques for End Users

  I searched a bit, but didn't find anything particularly pertinent to my problem - so please do excuse me if I missed something! A few months back I inherited the source to a fairly-popular indie game project and have been working, along with another developer, on the code-base. We recently made our first release since taking over the development but we're a little stuck. A few users are experiencing slowdowns/lagging in the current version, as compared to the previous version, and we are not able to reproduce these issues in any of our various development environments (debug, release, different OSes, different machines, etc.). What I'd like to know is how can we go about implementing some form of logging/debugging mechanism into the game, that users can enable and send the reports to us for examination? We're not able to distribute debug binaries using the MSVS 2010 runtimes, due to the licensing - and wouldn't want to, for a variety of reasons. We'd really like to get to the bottom of this issue, even if just to find out it's nothing to do with our code base but everything to do with their system configuration. At the moment, we just have no leads - and the community isn't a very technically-savvy one, so we're unable to rely on 'expert' bug reports or investigations. I've seen the debug logging mechanism used in other applications and games for everything from logging simple errors to crash dumps. We're really at a loss at this stage as to how to address these issues, having been over every commit to the repository from the previous to the current version and not finding any real issues.

  Since a lot of components exist to access or administer Essbase, there are also a couple of client tools available. End users typically use the Excel Add-In or SmartView nowadays. While the Excel Add-In talks to the Essbase server directly using various ports, SmartView connects to Essbase through Provider Services using HTTP protocol. The ability to communicate using a single port is one of the major advantages from SmartView over Excel Add-In. If you consider using Excel Add-In going forward, please make sure you are aware of the Statement of Direction for this component. The Administration Services Console, Integration Services Console and Essbase Studio are clients, which are mainly used by Essbase administrators or application designers. While Integration Services and Essbase Studio are used to setup Essbase applications by loading metadata or simply for data loads, Administration Services are utilized for all kind of Essbase administration. All clients are using only one or two ports to talk to their server counterparts, which makes them work through firewalls easily. Although clients for Provider Services (SmartView) and Administration Services (Administration Services Console) are only using a single port to communicate to their backend services, the backend services itself need the Essbase configured port range to talk to the Essbase server. Any communication to repository databases is done using JDBC connections. Essbase Studio and Integration Services are using different technologies to talk to the Essbase server, Integration Services uses CAPI, Essbase Studio uses JAPI. However, both are using the configured port range on the Essbase server to talk to Essbase. Connections to data sources are either based on ODBC (Integration Service, Essbase) or JDBC (Essbase Studio). As for all other components discussed previously, when setting up firewall rules, be aware of the fact that all services may need to talk to the external authentication sources, this is not only needed for Shared Services.

• Git Project Dependencies on GitHub

  I've written a PHP framework and a CMS on top of the framework. The CMS is dependent on the framework, but the framework exists as a self-contained folder within the CMS files. I'd like to maintain them as separate projects on GitHub, but I don't want to have the mess of updating the CMS project every time I update the framework. Ideally, I'd like to have the CMS somehow pull the framework files for inclusion into a predefined sub-directory rather than physically committing those files. Is this possible with Git/GitHub? If so, what do I need to know to make it work? Keep in mind that I'm at a very, very basic level of experience with Git - I can make repositories and commit using the Git plugin for Eclipse, connect to GitHub, and that's about it. I'm currently working solo on the projects, so I haven't had to learn much more about Git so far, but I'd like to open it up to others in the future and I want to make sure I have it right. Also, what should my ideal workflow be for projects with dependencies? Any tips on that subject would also greatly appreciated. If you need more info on my setup, just ask in the comments.

• How to ignore certain coding standard errors in PHP CodeSniffer

  We have a PHP 5 web application and we're currently evaluating PHP CodeSniffer in order to decide whether forcing code standards improves code quality without causing too much of a headache. If it seems good we will add a SVN pre-commit hook to ensure all new files committed on the dev branch are free from coding standard smells. Is there a way to configure PHP codeSniffer to ignore a particular type of error? or get it to treat a certain error as a warning instead?   I am not able to pin point what is missing. I have configured freenx-server (useradd, passwd etc). However, server drops the connection after authentication. • Elementary OS boots to a terminal (other OS) [on hold]

I am attempting to install Luna on my samsung s2 laptop (a8 amd radeon 7640g) and when I click on try luna, it just pulls up a terminal after the insignia (curvy E). When I install it, same issue. • Google analytics iframe code measuring visitor as two visitors

  I'm trying to measure visitors in an iframe and the site containing the iframe. What I would like is that visitors clicks in the iframe are seen being from the same visitor as the containing site, but somehow it is seen as two seperate visitors. I followed examples from http://www.blastam.com/blog/index.php/2011/02/google-analytics-cross-domain-tracking/, trimmed down to an even simpler version based on the comments about setDomainName not being needed anymore but with setDomainName I get the same result: a click on a page and a click on the iframe is seen as 2 clicks by 2 seperate visitors.   Background Looking to leverage an existing GIS system for exploring organizational data. Architecture The following figure represents a high-level overview of the system's desired features: The most basic usage would be as follows: The user visits a web site. The system presents a map (having regions, cities, and buildings). The user drills-down on the map to a particular building. The system provides a basic CRUD interface. The user can view and modify information about personnel (e.g., their assigned teams), equipment (e.g., network appliances), applications, and the building itself (e.g., contact and phone numbers). Ideally, all the components should be open-source (or otherwise free). Problem This must be a small project that needs a quick (but functional) prototype, mostly to confirm whether or not such a system would be useful in the long term. Questions What software components would you use to quickly develop a working prototype? What open-source solutions already exist, if any? • C IDE for Mac needed

  I'm looking for heavy-duty C/C++ IDE for Mac that would satisfy the following criteria: Work with big projects (~5000 files, some of them 100K big) efficiently. Have good navigation both file-based and symbol-based - i.e. "go to file", "go to function" etc. with autocompletion support. Support for "go to declaration/definition" for symbols - functions, structures, etc. Auto-adding new files in folders already in the project. Support for code completion for values, function names, etc. At least rudimentary CPP macro understanding - i.e. #define foo bar then foo() should take me either to #define or to actual bar. I understand full CPP parsing may be hard, but I hope for at least the obvious cases. Support for displaying parameter names/types by function name, preferably - integrated with the previous item, for functions defined in the project. Support for libc would be nice too :) (optional) Cross-project search support (I can manage with grep -r if everything else works) (optional) SVN support, at least to some extent (update, commit, mark updated) Is there such editor around? Free would be nice, but I'm ready to part with some money if it's good enough. I'm using TextMate now but I'm not satisfied with it. Tried Xcode but it seems to not be able to handle a large project - it just crashed...

• How to use the unit of work and repository patterns in a service oriented enviroment

  I've created an application framework using the unit of work and repository patterns for it's data layer. Data consumer layers such as presentation depend on the data layer design. For example a CRUD abstract form has a dependency to a repository (IRepository). This architecture works like a charm in client/server environments (Ex. a WPF application and a SQL Server). But I'm looking for a good pattern to change or reuse this architecture for a service oriented environment. Of course I have some ideas: Idea 1: The "Adapter" design pattern Keep the current architecture and create a new unit of work and repository implementation which can work with a service instead of the ORM. Data layer consumers are loosely coupled to the data layer so it's possible but the problem is about the unit of work; I have to create a context which tracks the objects state at the client side and sends the changes to the server side on calling the "Commit" (Something that I think the RIA has done for Silverlight). Here the diagram: ----------- CLIENT----------- | ------------------ SERVER ---------------------- [ UI ] -> [ UoW/Repository ] ---> [ Web Services ] -> [ UoW/Repository ] -> [DB] Idea 2: Add another layer Add another layer (let say "local services" or "data provider"), then put it between the data layer (unit of work and repository) and the data consumer layers (like UI). Then I have to rewrite the consumer classes (CRUD and other classes which are dependent to IRepository) to depend on another interface. • How atomic is a SELECT INTO?

  Last week I got an interesting situation that prompted me to challenge a long standing assumption. I always thought that a SELECT INTO was an atomic statement, i.e. it would either complete successfully or the table would not be created. So I got very surprised when, after a “select into” query was chosen as a deadlock victim, the next execution (as the app would handle the deadlock and retry) would fail with: Msg 2714, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 There is already an object named '#test' in the database. The only hypothesis we could come up was that the “create table” part of the statement was committed independently from the actual “insert”. We can confirm that by capturing the “Transaction Log” event on Profiler (filtering by SPID0). The result is that when we run: SELECT * INTO #results FROM master.sys.objects we get the following output on Profiler: It is easy to see the two independent transactions. Although this behaviour was a surprise to me, it is very easy to workaround it if you feel the need (as we did in this case). You can either change it into independent “CREATE TABLE / INSERT SELECT” or you can enclose the SELECT INTO in an explicit transaction: SET XACT_ABORT ON BEGIN TRANSACTION SELECT * INTO #results FROM master.sys.objects COMMIT

• A good substitute for ASMX web service methods, but not a general handler

  The best thing I like about ASP.NET MVC, is that you can directly call a server method (called action), from the client. This is so convenient, and so straightforward, that I really like to implement such a model in ASP.NET WebForms too. However, in ASP.NET WebForms, to call a server method from the client, you should either use Page Methods, or Web Services, both of which use SOAP as their communication protocol (though JSON can also be used). There is also another substitution, which is using Generic Handlers. The problem with them however is that, a separate Generic Handler should be written for each server method. In other words, each Generic Handler works like a simple method. Is there anyway else to imitate MVC model in ASP.NET WebForms? Please note that I can't change to MVC platform right now, cause the project at our hand is a big project and we don't have required resources and time to change our platform. What we seek, is a simple MVC model implementation for our AJAX calls. A problem that we have with Web Services, is the known problem of SoapException, and we're not interested in creating custom SoapExctensions.
