In Perl, how can I iterate over the Cartesian product of multiple sets?

I want to do permutation in Perl. For example I have three arrays: ["big", "tiny", "small"] and then I have ["red", "yellow", "green"] and also ["apple", "pear", "banana"]. How do I get: ["big", "red", "apple"] ["big", "red", "pear"] ..etc.. ["small", "green", "banana"] I understand this is called permutation. But I am not sure how to do it. Also I don't know how many arrays I can have. There may be three or four, so I don't want to do nested loop.

Should I convert data arrays to objects in PHP in a CouchDB/Ajax app?

I find myself converting between array and object all the time in PHP application that uses couchDB and Ajax. Of course I am also converting objects to JSON and back (for sometimes couchdb but mostly Ajax), but this is not so much disturbing my workflow. At the present I have php objects that are returned by the CouchDB modules I use and on the other hand I have the old habbit to return arrays like array("error"="not found","data"=$dataObj) from my functions. This leads to a mixed occurence of real php objects and nested arrays and I cast with (object) or (array) if necessary. The worst thing is that I know more or less by heart what a function returns, but not what type (array or object), so I often run into type errors. My plan is now to always cast arrays to objects before returning from a function. Of course this implies a lot of refactoring. Is this the right way to go? What about the conversion overhead? Other ideas or tips?

NHibernate will insert but not update after move to host with shared server running mysql.

Hi, I have a site running MVC and Nhibernate (not fluent) using standard session per request in an http module, runs fine locally (also with mysql) but after a move to a hosting provider no update statements are being issued. I can insert but not update, no exceptions are raised, I have the 'show_sql' option switched on which locally shows the update statements being issued but on the server no update statements are logged. I don't think NHProf is an option for me as I can only run asp.net apps on my shared server, are there any other methods of diagnosing NH issues like this ? Anyone had a similar issue ? Cheers, A

WPF: Set style on immediate children only

In my application I have a tab control which has several tab items. The problem is that I want to apply a style to these tab items, but to no other (nested) tab items. I have tried setting the following style on the tab control, but this also effects all children: <Style x:Key="tabControlStyle" TargetType="{x:Type TabControl}"> <Setter Property="TabItem.Template" Value="{StaticResource tabItemTemplate}" /> </Style> By using the code above I get the following error: 'TabItem' ControlTemplate TargetType does not match templated type 'TabControl', as TabItem and TabControl have the same DependencyProperty "Template", and the code tries to set the TabItemTemplate as TabControl- Template. Can anybody help me?

The problem is that I want the names of the countries to be in a column or if you will - the containers for the government types to be the same width so other containers will align. If I don't do it in nested containers (in the example - nested tables) the rows will get displaced. Currently rows are shown exactly how I want them - the text is in the vertical middle of the what they refer to. Only thing that comes up to my mind is to set the text in the same columns as class=column1, class=column2, etc. and then somehow define the width for the column classes. Problem is the data is defined dynamically and I can't say how much pixels or % of the page I can give to a column, I just need it to stretch with the text. This is my first time I ask about help here so if I am doing it wrong, tell me how do improve my inquiry.

[as3] Movieclip.width returns higher value than Movieclip stage on Width.

I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height). Any pointers, to what could be the reasons for the discrepancy in .width values on stage and on run-time? Its breaking the scaling code that follows.

Catch all javascript errors and send them to server

I think my point is quite clear, i want to know every exceptions, errors, compilation errors, ... that happens on the client side and send them to the server to report them. Can I reproduce Scala's behavior for == ?

In Programming in Scala, I can read that the == operator behaves as if it was defined like this: final def == (that: Any): Boolean = if (null eq this) {null eq that} else {this equals that} But there must actually be compiler magic to avoid null pointer exceptions, right? Is there any way for me to replicate this behavior with pure Scala; i.e., have an operator/method return one thing if the receiver is null and another one if it isn't? What I mean is an actual implementation of null eq this. I suppose I can write a "pimp" and then define the method on the wrapper class, but is there a more direct way to do this?

Proper mechanism for sending PHP errors to the client

Greetings, I was trying to discover a proper way to send captured errors or business logic exceptions to the client in an Ajax-PHP system. In my case, the browser needs to react differently depending on whether a request was successful or not. However in all the examples I've found, only a simple string is reported back to the browser in both cases. Eg: if (something worked) echo "Success!"; else echo "ERROR: that failed"; So when the browser gets back the Ajax response, the only way to know if an error occurred would be to parse the string (looking for 'error' perhaps). This seems clunky. Is there a better/proper way to send back the Ajax response & notify the browser of an error? Thank you.

Hi guys, I've just updated my nexus one to 2.2...now all of my (own and some from the market) apps throw exceptions and were closed... It's weird, in the app i'm developing atm, there it displays only my start page with buttons, but when i tap on one button to fire an intent to another activity my app gets closed with an exception. Yesterday before the update everything worked fine... The same thing in my emulator: I have two devices, one with API level 7 and one with level 8...Level 7 worked fine, but level 8 killed my app :( What is the problem and how can I solve this? I'm desperatly trying to get it working again :( I hope someone can help me fixing this

Hi, I wish to compare two lists. Generally this is not a problem as I usually use a nested for loop and append the intersection to a new list. In this case, I need to delete the intersection of A and B from A. A = [['ab', 'cd', 'ef', '0', '567'], ['ghy5'], ['pop', 'eye']] B = [['ab'], ['hi'], ['op'], ['ej']] My objective is to compare A and B and delete A intersection B from A, i.e., delete A[0][0] in this case. why click on the button is not working on IE?

Hi guys, I'm just preparing the release of a library site builded in asp.net: http://213.133.103.5/gramma_prod/Site/Index.aspx All it's working great on FF and Chrome but on IE the asp button click event is not working. Please notice the most important buttons: "Adauga in cos" (Add to basket)... I'm just struggling to find out the problem... I've checked the forms to not have nested ones but they seems ok. Could you provide any other ideea? ps: I did not post any code because this problem occurs on all pages... Thanks in advance. How can I tell what is using the memory when there is a heap overflow in Java?

Hi all, I know a little about profiling, but what I am particularlly insterest in, is what has all the memory when I get these heap over flow exceptions. I will start getting them after about a hour of debugging. I am hoping there is some sort of dump or something, that I can use to get a list of what instances are around at the time the program starts. By the way, sorry if this is a lazy question. I have sql statement one; select linkscat.id, linkscat.category from linkscat, contentlinks, links where contentlinks.linksid = links.id and contentlinks.contentid = @contentid and links.linkscatid = linkscat.id order by linkscat.category and sql statement 2 takes a parameter called @linkscat which is 'id' from the statement above; select * from links where linkscatid= @linkscat I'm running into all types of trouble trying to use many sqldatareaders, nested repeaters etc, but it would be great if all the work could be done in the one statement? Two part form in Rails

I have some two nested resources, so that a Product can have many Bookings. On one page in a different controller I want to create a new booking and since it's a "general" booking I want a select menu to appear in a modal window where the user is able to pick one of the existing products and then go to the booking page. How can I do this? I have no problem setting up the modal and the "New booking" page is already there. What I need is a form that generates a list of existing products, picks the selected product id and then gets /products/:product_id/bookings/new . Any help appreciated! I realize my title does not describe my problem very good so better suggestions are highly welcome!

assembly.GetTypes() does not return all types

I try to lead the types from an .dll (which is also referenced in the executing project). I call: public static void LoadPlugin(string pluginFile) { Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(pluginFile); foreach (Type type in assembly.GetTypes()) { // play with it } } It loads just a few of them: public partial class Mathematics : UserControl, IMathematics, IPortable and public partial class Welcome : UserControl but the next one, and some others, are ignored: public partial class Test : UserControl, ITest, IPortable They all stand in the same assembly, under the same namespace. The public static void LoadPlugin(string pluginFile) method is located in other assembly that is also referenced in the executing project. No exceptions are thrown. What could be the issues for not loading all the types? Any ideas?

Following on from my last question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2788082/sql-server-query-performance, and discovering that my method of allowing optional parameters in a search query is sub optimal, does anyone have guidelines on how to approach this? For example, say I have an application table, a customer table and a contact details table, and I want to create an SP which allows searching on some, none or all of surname, homephone, mobile and app ID, I may use something like the following: select * from application a inner join customer c on a.customerid = a.id left join contact hp on (c.id = hp.customerid and hp.contacttype = 'homephone') left join contact mob on (c.id = mob.customerid and mob.contacttype = 'mobile') where (a.ID = @ID or @ID is null) and (c.Surname = @Surname or @Surname is null) and (HP.phonenumber = @Homphone or @Homephone is null) and (MOB.phonenumber = @Mobile or @Mobile is null) The schema used above isn't real, and I wouldn't be using select * in a real world scenario, it is the construction of the where clause I am interested in. Is there a better approach, either dynamic sql or an alternative which can achieve the same result, without the need for many nested conditionals. Some SPs may have 10 - 15 criteria used in this way

Iterating through a range of dates in Python

This is working fine, but I'm looking for any feedback on how to do it better. Right now I think it's better than nested loops, but it starts to get Perl-one-linerish when you have a generator in a list comprehension. Dotnetnuke menu custom root

Is there anyway to use the built-in DNN Menu module to display a menu based at a different root node other than the current tab node? Given the following structure: Page1 -child1_1 -child1_2 Page3 Page2(hidden) -child2_1 -child2_2 In this scenario I will be having 2 menus on this skin. One will be normal navigation based off of the current node and the other will be a set of 'static' links to pages located outside the current node. When on Page1 the normal navigation will show Page1, Page3 and the children of Page1 nested under Page1. The 'static' links will use 'Page2' as their root and will show child2_1 and child2_2.

A 3-D grid of regularly spaced points

I want to create a list containing the 3-D coords of a grid of regularly spaced points, each as a 3-element tuple. I'm looking for advice on the most efficient way to do this. In C++ for instance, I simply loop over three nested loops, one for each coordinate. In Matlab, I would probably use the meshgrid function (which would do it in one command). I've read about meshgrid and mgrid in Python, and I've also read that using numpy's broadcasting rules is more efficient. It seems to me that using the zip function in combination with the numpy broadcast rules might be the most efficient way, but zip doesn't seem to be overloaded in numpy.
