  • Cannot chown my own files from NFS

    We have a NFS server provide home directory for many account, which provided by a NIS server. I have account A and B. In /home/A, I try to copy "cp -a /home/B/somedir ~/". Then I found in /home/A/somedir, all files are owned by user A. Then if I do "chown -R B:B somedir", I got "Operation not permitted" error. I am user A, "cp -a" didn't preserve the original user (B). Then I cannot chown my own files. Any suggestion? I fix my own issue by "chmod 777 /home/A", "su - B" and "cp -a somedir /home/A/", and "su - A", then "chmod 755 /home/A". But it is not a good solution.

  • Tomcat access logs - are failed requests included?

    We have a RESTful web service (Java, hosted in Tomcat on Ubuntu on Amazon EC2). From time to time it fails (not every week). When it fails, Java CPU consumption goes to 100% and it takes all available memory. It does not finish by itself. I have to restart the server. There is nothing suspicious in Tomcat access logs. I guess one of our users could submit a very "heavy" request which brought the server down. Is it possible this request is not in Tomcat logs since it never finished?

  • Configuring Bind9 on ubuntu

    I am trying to configure name server on Ubuntu just for learning. I have followed this tutorial. After configuring bind9 I have restarted it and works well. I have no registered domain name and public IP, so I have used a random domain name(khalidiitdu.com) that is not registered. When I dig khalidiitdu.com, it shows status: NXDOMAIN. If I use nslookup command, it shows ** server can't find khalidiitdu.com: NXDOMAIN. Now question is: Is registered domain mandatory to configure bind9 within a LAN? If not please suggest me alternative ways. Thanks.....

  • Google Chrome and kerberos authentication against Apache

    I've managed to get kerberos authentication to work now with Apache and Likewise Open but so far, Google Chrome doesn't seem to play fair. Unless I start it with chrome.exe --auth-server-whitelist="*company.com" it does only pop-up a login window but will not accept any credentials at all. As far as I know, the --auth-server-whitelist option should only be used when trying to get Single-Sign-On (SSO) to work, but if you are fine with a log-in window it should work directly out of the box, but so far it doesn't. But when I am trying to running the command: $ curl -XPUT http://172.16.31.127:8080/test.html -d 'test' I am getting 500 Internal Server error. Can anyone help me out in solving this.

    I have a server setup with nginx serving static content and proxy all PHP/dynamic requests to apache on 127.0.0.1 I'm building an API for my databases, and I need to allow clients by their origin (domain name), rather than just IP. Based on CORS rules. So when I send an HTTP header header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: www.client-requesting.myapi.com"); from my API server, I have to tell it which origin I allow, otherwise client side requests won't work to my API due to same-origin policy. The question is how can I know which domain name (if any) called my API? What should be the nginx and apache configuration to pass the origin parameter? I tried to google, and all I found is some possible solution with mod_rpaf, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!

  • How can I reroute a sub-domain to localhost + port number?

    I have several web applications running on my developer machine. They mimic our production web applications which are hosted on sub-domain. For example, consider: api.myserver.com - is mimicked by 127.0.0.1:8000 www.myserver.com - is mimicked by 127.0.0.1:8008 and so on... How can I make it so that, on my Windows 7 machine, HTTP calls to "api.myserver.com" (note the lack of port number) are redirected to 127.0.0.1:8000 etc? Note that this needs to apply both to client-side calls (in the browser) and server-side calls (from IIS to Python development server and vice versa). Do I need a proxy to run locally to achieve this? Can you recommend such a tool?

    I need to have only stop scripts in rcN.d (runlevels 0,1,6) for apache2. So that I always start it by myself, but when reboot occurs server will shut down apache2 properly. And when I change runlevel 2-3 server doesnt' touch apache daemon (leaving it in the state it is). Basically, I just need a legal way to remove apache2 startup symlinks from rc2.d - rc5.d. With tools like update-rc.d. I can just remove those symlinks by hands, but I'm not sure if this is a proper way for this.

  • How to sync passwords one-way between windows domains without trust relationship?

    We're migrating from Windows 2003 to 2008 SBS. We will run concurrently for a short period of time. I cannot establish a trust relationship between Server 2003 & Server 2008 SBS and I would like to know if there is a way to sync the passwords between 2003-2008? For example, I would like to dump the pre-encrypted passswords to a file in 2003 and then use this to update the passwords for the correspoding usernames in 2008 SBS. Is this possible? I have no need to ever see the clear text version of the passwords. I see one commercial product, but it hardly seems worth it given the temporary nature of my project... Thanks, Franco

    On the documentation, they advice the monitor command. But it has a 50% performance penalty for the whole system, and how should I do that ? Whatching the ouput using SSH until I don't see anything ? Let's say I have 3 servers: 1 with a redis master, 1 with a redis slave, and one with my website querying the redis master. How can I, from my website server, make cleany the decision to fallback to the slave by sending the SLAVEOF NO ONE command ? My first step would be to put some kind of timeout check with a simple ping, just to be sure the server is online. But for redis specifically, I have no clue.

  • Postfix sending mail back to itself? (Ubuntu 9.10)

    I setup Dovecot and Postfix using the "Dovecot-Postfix" package with SASL and all that. The Dovecot part seems to be working fine but I'm having issues with Postfix. Whenever I send a message to another address through the postfix server, two things happen. the message never gets to the other address (even when I request a delivery notification, it says that it's been delivered but it's not in the spam box in the other inbox or anything) The message comes back to my inbox through Dovecot as though I sent it to myself internally. e.g. I send an email through my postfix server to my gmail account, 10 minutes later nothing shows up in my gmail account but the message comes back to me as though I was sending it to my internal address (with no errors) Any ideas?

  • JDBC CLASSPATH Not Working

    I'm setting up a simple JDBC connection to my working MySQL database on my server. I'm using the Connector-J provided by MySQL. According to their documentation, I'm suppose to create the CLASSPATH variable to point to the directory where the mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar is located. I used export set CLASSPATH=/path/mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar:$CLASSPATH. When I type echo $CLASSPATH to see if it exists, everything seems fine. But then when I open a new terminal and type echo $CLASSPATH it's no longer there. I think this is the main reason why my Java server won't connect to the JDBC, because it isn't saving the CLASSPATH variable I set. Anyone got suggestions or fixes on how to set up JDBC in the first place?

  • One samba directory is very slow

    We have a RHEL server running as a samba server for our Windows network which has been running fine for ages. All of a sudden this morning one specific folder became really slow and sometimes inaccessible. It's the /home/ directory (containing all of the user specific stuff, like their windows desktops, documents etc). It's not only really slow over the network, but when I try to use ls to view the directory it just hangs.     I have written an app that connects to a server IIS 6 to retrieve information. When doing this i have collected data (phone model etc) and send it to the server with a regular GET HTTP call like this: http://www.myserver.com/getData.php?phonemodel=userphone&appversion=2&id=20 This is logged in the IIS logfiles. I thought of writing my own parser for log files. But why invent the wheel? I´m looking for a software that can read the IIS 6 logfiles. I would like it to be able to do: Extraction - Extract all lines that contains: www.myserver.com/getData Filtering - View all lines where http-code is not 200 Queries - View all lines where phonemodel=iphone Any tips on free software that can help me with this?     I have 2 servers the first (SRV01) is running Bind and other web app the second (SRV02) is running 2 server Minecraft (^^) in Bind I have 2 A recording for the 2 server MC s1.domain.tld A SRV02IP s2.domain.tld A SRV02IP the 2 MC serv are running on 2 different port 25565 and 25566 so I want that the request from s1.domain.tld:25565 are going to SRV02IP:25565 and the request from s2.domain.tld:25565 are going to SRV02IP:25566 I think I need do this in the SRV02 iptables. I have looking some topic about iptables but nothing pertinent to me. could you help me ? rgds.

  • Chef cookbooks marked as executed

    I have setup a Chef server in our network that I use to manage several nodes. These nodes have a chef-client installed executing as a daemon every X minutes. The problem is that every time the client runs, it executes the recipes for all the cookbooks, even those previously executed, so it consumes resources and sometimes it even breaks thinks (with services restarts, for example). I know that I can avoid executing a piece of code or a recipe I create as detailed here: Prevent chef recipe from executing previously executed action? but, would this mean that I should modify any cookbook that I download from the opscode repository. In other words, is it possible to make the chef server (or the clients) to mark the cookbooks as 'executed' as soon as they are executed the first time?

    Currently we have a Linux-based firewall which NAT-ing our public IP address to give internet access to our staff's PCs and a Windows Server 2003 for internal filesharing. I want to host Redmine/SVN (a bugtracker) internally behind this firewall using a Linux server. This webserver will be accessed by our clients externally so they can post bug reports. This means that I have to open port 80 & 22 at the firewall to give access to the webserver and me to SSH it from home. However, let's say I'm using password-based SSH for the webserver and somebody cracked it. Does that mean the cracker could ping and access other servers and PCs in the network?

  • Will restarting the W3SVC Web Publishing Service, also restart the app pool in IIS?

    Background: I'm trying to stop and start IIS on a windows 7 build box, in order to run acceptance tests. But from what I have read, most of the remote web management features have been disabled by Microsoft in a retarted attempt to sell more Windows Server 2008 licenses. Still for some reason they didn't disable the least user-friendly ways of controlling IIS remotely, but they are all a total pain. What I can do easily is remotely stop and start the WWW service from a msbuild task. But I want to be sure that this also restarts the app pool, so that when I copy in new web files the web server there will be serving the most recent version of the website. Question: If I restart the W3SVC windows service, will that also restart the app pool?

I am considering putting a reverse proxy for serving static content as well as handling etagged actions. 1 - Can I use my existing nginx installation and just change it to a reverse proxy? Do I even need a web server? What would a typical architecture look like in this case? nginx rev-proxy - nginx web server - passenger? or nginx rev-proxy - passenger? 2 - Is nginx the best choice in this case? 3 - Can my reverse proxy reside on the same slice?   • Apache CPU usage stays at 100% even when there are no requests

    Hi, I've been running the Apache HTTP server benchmarking tool (ab) on my new Apache server to test performance. I noticed that with a command like the following: ab -n 100000 -c 1000 http://www.mysite.com/ The CPU is used 100% by the apache2 processes during the testing. When the test concludes, usually with the following error just before the last requests are made: apr_poll: The timeout specified has expired (70007) Total of 99960 requests completed the CPU usage remains at 100%, and it's all being consumed by apache. I am using the worker MPM with and running PHP with mod_fcgid. Any advice as to why this is or what can be done to stop it would be appreciated.

    This is probably a silly question. I'm doing some http requests using wget from the command line, and I want those connections to be made through one specific IP of the 4 IPs my server has. Those http requests go to one specific range of IPs so I only want those to be routed differently. The 4 interfaces in my server are eth0, eth0:0, eth0:1, eth0:2. I tried with the following command: route add -net 192.164.10.0/24 dev eth0:0 But when I see the routing table it says: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.164.10.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 The interface is set to eth0 not eth0:0 as my command says. What am I doing wrong?

The document root is pointed to a specific app folder: /var/www/my-project/app I'm trying to get phpMyAdmin running on the same server but I don't want to put it in the application folder. Instead I'd like to put it here /var/www/apps/phpmyadmin I'm using a sub domain for the server. What's the easiest way for me to get access to phpMyAdmin? Another subdomain? sub subdomain? Re-direct a folder?

    On my cpanel server, I restored about 50 accounts from crashed cpanel server. All of the sites were working fine, but suddenly without changing anything, every site started to get redirected to url "http://:2083/"., There is nothing in logs, no errors. when i do wget it says: wget grinfeld.com.br --2012-09-04 13:18:23-- http://grinfeld.com.br/ Resolving grinfeld.com.br... 198.101.221.254 Connecting to grinfeld.com.br|198.101.221.254|:80... connected.
