  • So do programming languages get updated regularly like everyday applications or are they just x.0 re

    I was wondering if programming languages and frameworks get updated in small increments or are they just x.0 releases? And if they do how do you keep up on all the changes in every update? I am specifically interested in Objective-C and Cocoa and CocoaTouch. I'm learning from books and online PDF's etc, but often they are at best a few years old. I just would like to know if there have been any changes etc. that should concern me and even if not, inevitably there will be, so where can I look out for them?

Do I need to release workbook and sheet separately? I want to have Excel around for the lifetime of the program, it's a huge performance improvement.

  • View Animation (Resizing a Ball)

    hi, i am trying to do this: 1) user long touches the screen, 2) a circle/ball pops up (centered around the user's finger) and grows in size as long as the user is touching the screen 3) once the user lets go of the finger, the ball (now in its final size) will bounce around. i think i have the bouncing around figure out from the DivideAndConquer example, but i am not sure how to animate the ball's growth. i looked at various view flipper examples such as this: http://www.inter-fuser.com/2009/08/android-animations-3d-flip.html but it seems like view flipper is best for swapping two static pictures. i wasn't able to find a good view animator example other than the flippers. also, i would prefer to use images as opposed to just a circle. can someone point me in the right direction? thanks.

  • Why do I not get the correct answer for Euler 56 in J?

    I've solved 84 of the Project Euler problems, mostly in Haskell. I am now going back and trying to solve in J some of those I already solved in Haskell, as an exercise in learning J. Currently, I am trying to solve Problem 56. Let me stress that I already know what the right answer is, since I've already solved it in Haskell. It's a very easy, trivial problem. I will not give the answer here. Here is my solution in J: digits =: ("."0)":"0 eachDigit =: adverb : 'u@:digits"0' NB. I use this so often I made it an adverb. cartesian =: adverb : '((#~ #) u ($~ ([:*~#)))' >./ +/ eachDigit x: ^ cartesian : i. 99 This produces a number less than the desired result. In other words, it's wrong somehow. Any J-ers out there know why? I'm baffled, since it's pretty straightforward and totally brute force.

    I've been reading over the perl doc, but I can't quite get my head around hashes. I'm trying to find if a hash key exists, and if so, compare is't value.   • How should a programmer go about getting started with Flash/Flex/ActionScript?

    What is the shortest path between zero (ie no flash related development software on my computer or information about where to obtain it or get started) to running a "hello world" ActionScript? I'm hoping for an answer that gives step by step instructions about exactly what software is needed to get started, an example of some "hello world" code, and instructions for compiling and running the code. I've spent more time than I think should be necessary researching this question and not found much information. Hopefully this question will be found by programmers like me who want to get started with Flash/Flex/ActionScript (After my morning of researching I still don't even know what terminology to use so I'll just throw it all out there). ActionScript tutorials I've found are focused on programming concepts, ie logic, branching, OOP, etc, and some even have code examples to download, but not a single one I've found explains how to compile and run the code. They all seem to assume you have an IDE standing by but no knowledge of programming, exactly the opposite of the position I'm in.   • Finding the closest grid coordinate to the mouse onclick with javascript/jQuery

    What I'm trying to do is make a grid of invisible coordinates on the page equally spaced. I then want a <div> to be placed at whatever grid coordinate is closest to the pointer when onclick is triggered. Here's the rough idea: I have the tracking of the mouse coordinates and the placing of the <div> worked out fine. What I'm stuck with is how to approach the problem of the grid of coordinates. First of all, should I have all my coordinates in an array which I then compare my onclick coordinate to? Or seeing as my grid coordinates follow a rule, could I do something like finding out which coordinate that is a multiple of whatever my spacing is is closest to the onclick coordinate? And then, where do I start with working out which grid point coordinate is closest? What's the best way of going about it? Thanks!

    I just installed VS2010 and the great new IronPython Tools extension. Currently this extension doesn't yet generate event handlers in code upon double-clicking wpf visual controls. Is there anyone that can provide or point me to an example as to how to code wpf event handlers manually in python. I've had no luck finding any and I am new to visual studio.     Hey everyone, So I'm new to Rails (teaching myself as a senior project in high school), and I'm trying to figure out how to modify these strings. Let's say someone writes the following string in a form: "you know you are a geek when" How can I automatically change it to this: "You know you are a geek when..."? I need Rails to check the case of the first letter and check for the three dots then modify the string as necessary. I've looked here, but I can't find anything that would work. Thanks a lot!

    I have a list of dictionaries: [{'title':'New York Times', 'title_url':'New_York_Times','id':4}, {'title':'USA Today','title_url':'USA_Today','id':6}, {'title':'Apple News','title_url':'Apple_News','id':2}] I'd like to sort it by the title, so elements with A go before Z: [{'title':'Apple News','title_url':'Apple_News','id':2}, {'title':'New York Times', 'title_url':'New_York_Times','id':4}, {'title':'USA Today','title_url':'USA_Today','id':6}] What's the best way to do this? Also, is there a way to ensure the order of each dictionary key stays constant, e.g., always title, title_url, then id? Thank you.

  • Compile/use unrar C++ source for iphone app?

    Writing an app that will include the ability to decompress zip and rar files. I think I'm OK on how to handle the .zips but .rars seem a little more trouble. I noticed that rarlabs has source available but it's C++. Is there a way to compile, wrap or otherwise use this code within an iPhone app?
