• lvm mirroring space unavailable.

  I am trying to migrate my data on lvm to two new disks, and setup mirroring between the two. I have successfully migrated all of the data to the first of the two disks, leaving the second one completely available as a mirror. I used lvconvert -m1 vg/home and the output was: Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume : 50000 more required Unable to allocate extents for mirror(s). This puzzling to me because it appears as if there is plenty of space on the second disk to mirror. Is there something I have done wrong here? Or is there a way to explicitly tell LVM where to put each leg of the mirror? I'm using lvm2.

• Home Server: storage virtualisation, what to choose?

  I'm looking for virtualisation solutions for storage and OS for a home server. A sort of private cloud where I manage the storage space independently of the VM one. This question focus on storage management. (I have another question related to the VM/compute instance management). Here my environement and wishes. Server: HP Proliant MicroServer with 8 GB RAM (AMD Turion dual core with AMD-V technology) with 1 250GB system disk and up to 4 HDD (2 TB) for "data" OS types: only Linux (perhaps a *BSD VM in the future) Linux distributions do not matter, I'm familiar with RHEL, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, but any other recommandation will be fine The 4 HDD is going to be a software RAID array, probably RAID 5. storage should be "virtualised/cloudified": easy to extend: if I add a NAS on the network, I can include the NAS space capacity within this storage space as one virtual disk. This can be a NAS, an external HDD or another server. cluster FS or S3 style space or OpenStack block storage? Whatever is easier to manage/maintain and easy to integrate/plug to VM/compute instance. I would prefer free (libre, as in a free speach) and open source tools. But it does not have to be free as in a free beer. Note: the VMs I intend to run on top of this server are one dedicated to backup, one for a "owncloud/dropbox"-like service and perhaps one for media server (hosting video and photos). I'm not sure if traditional VMs or compute instance are the most suitable for this.

• Debian Wheezy 7.5 64bit xfce4 install error ( no desktop environment installed already )

  i wrote a CD with an iso-image from debian.org. the debian-7.5.0-amd64-CD-1.iso from this folder. Debian Wheezy 7.5 stable 64bit There was an error at Select and install software step. It said Retrieving file 770 from 800 and then it failed the installation. I continued the instal and when i opened the computer it doesn't work the Ctrl + Alt + F7 as i waited. It starts at tty1 and after logging in i edited config file cause it had a lot of errors and said E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages or Couldn't found the package. • torrent downloads not showing on Squid log

  hello, i have just a few months working as sysadmin, hence i still have lots to learn, first thing id like to do is as follows: We have an OpenBSD 4.5 box acting like firewall,dns,cache etc, the box has 2 network cards, one conected directly to the internet and the other to our switch, i used to work with sarg for the log analysis but then changed to the much faster free-sa. I use a daily free-sa report to check the bandwidth usage and report our top 5 bandwidth consumers (3 days a week being #1 and you will be buying the pizzas :D, we are a small company ~20 so we are very familiar). this was working really good until recently, one of us required to download some stuff via torrent (~3GB) and since the pizza rule is active for non-work related downloads, he told me (verified) that his download was indeed work related so i would dismiss that 3GB off his quota, but to my surprise the log didnt showed that 3GB, since his ip consumption was only around 290MB. More recently, since the FIFA world cup started, we know that some of the employees are watching the match's streaming, we know it and we dont care about it since, like already stated, we are a small company so we dont have restrictive policies, we all can chat, watch youtube, download anything we want BUT we are only allowed 300MB a day otherwise you'll get in the top5-pizza-board, anyway, that streaming consumption is also not showing in the free-sa reports. So my question is, why is these data being excluded from the reports? im thinking that the free-sa reports list only certain types of things but im also thinking if are the squid logs the ones that are not erm... logging these conections. Any help, guide, advice or clarification is appreciated.

• ubuntu's average load never below "0.00 0.01 0.05"

  I have several ubuntu 12.04 VMs running on a ubuntu 12.04 KVM host. Those of the virtual machines that are totally idle with no services (except syslog and the other "small" standard stuff of a fresh installation) show a constant load of "0.00 0.01 0.05" in top/htop as average 1/5/15. When there are "real" applications running, the load averages behave perfectly normal but they never fall below the mentioned values.   Hi, What are the best free CMSs or CMS plugins or ERPs or any other free tools available for developing a hospital management system? I want to develop it for a children's hospital run by my father. The hospital is small with two doctors. Currently, everything is done manually on paper. The main entities who will be using the system are: Receptionist, the two doctors, chemist and the medical laboratorist. They will use it majorly for keeping the records of the patient. The patients would not be interacting with the system directly. The system needs to be user friendly and should be easy to learn. I was thinking to develop such a system using a CMS or an ERP or any other free tool. I have used wordpress/drupal in past but never used an ERP. Can you please guide me to make such a system using free, and preferably open source, tools? Update: I think it will be mostly a form driven system. • CentOS server. What does it mean when the total used RAM does not equal the sum of RES?

  I'm having a problem with a virtual hosted server running CentOS. In the past month a process (java based) that had been running fine started having problems getting memory when the JVM was started. One strange thing I've noticed is that when I start the process, the PID says it is using 470mb of RAM while the 'used' memory immediately drops by over a 1GB. If I run 'top', the total RES used across all processes falls short of the 'used' listed at the top by almost 700mb. The support person says this means I have a memory leak with my process. I don't know what to believe because I would expect a memory leak to simply waste the memory the process is allocated not to consume additional memory that doesn't show up using 'top'. I'm a developer and not a server guy so I'm appealing to the experts. To me, if the total RES memory doesn't add up to the total 'used' it indicates that something is wrong with my virtual server set-up. Would you also suspect a memory leaking java process in this case? If I use free before: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2097152 149264 1947888 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 149264 1947888 Swap: 0 0 0 free after: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2097152 1094116 1003036 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 1094116 1003036 Swap: 0 0 0 So it looks as though the process is using (or causing to be used) nearly 1GB of RAM. Since the process (based on top is only using 452mb, does that mean that the kernal is all of a sudden using an additional 500mb?

• Is there a simple context-menu add-in that could make-up for the Windows-7 status bar deficiency?

  Edit: I initially asked about free disk space and selected item size. It has since been pointed out that the selected item size summary is still availiable natively in the details pane. I had read elsewhere (wikipedia) that this was removed along with disk free space, which is not the case. Only free disk space has been completely removed. Selection size is still availiable. Is there a context menu add-in out there that could show the free disk space of the relevant drive, when you right click? This would go a long way to compensating for one of the only steps backward I’ve discovered in Windows 7 so far. I doubt anyone had created one specifially for this need before windows 7 because this information was previously easily accessible in the status bar. I thought about creating one, but it has been a while since I have messed with the Shell API, and I know there are coders out there who could do it faster and better. If you’ve heard of one, or know of something else to make-up for this Microsoft misstep, I’d appreciate hearing about it. If MS were listing to the community they would already have a powertoy or add-in of some kind to un-break this. (they could release it unsupported even), as there seem to be many power users that are extremely annoyed by this feature removal decision. If anyone has seen something, please post it here. As it has been only 4 days since official Windows 7 release, I'll wait at least a week to chose an answer. Here's a picture of protoype screenshot: SU question 19232 is related.

• Plesk Uninstall Memory issue

  I am trying to uninstall plesk from my VPS by running following command: yum remove sw-* psa-* plesk-* when i run this command i get following error: Running rpm_check_debug Running Transaction Test memory alloc (4 bytes) returned NULL. First time when i run above command, this mem alloc (4 bytes) was very big number like (67864987). then i googled it, got some clear/ulimit commands. executed them. rebooted my system. stopped all process and executed this command again. but still getting 4 byte issue. dont know how to get rid of it. I also tried ulimit after reboot but no success and Yes. • Excel 2007 - "The macro may not be available in this workbook" Error

  We use an Excel sheet that has been protected to prevent modification of it from end users. All in all they are only able to edit certain tabs to add information that will then be used to generate information on other tabs using equations and such. On the tab with the equations, a button is present called "Prep for Internal Hard Copy Print." This button runs a macro that selects the information on the tab, unprotects it, then sends a print job to the user's default printer that contains the unprotected content. Normally this works like a champ. This time around, however, the macro is throwing the following error: Cannot run the macro "FILENAME.xlsx'!MacroName'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled. As far as I can tell, the macros are still present within the workbook. This sheet is normally a .xlsm though the user saved it with a different filename as a .xlsx. Also, the macros appear only as MacroName in the .xlsm file and not "FILENAME.xlsx'!MacroName' as it does in the .xlsx. Finally, when I open the .xlsm it asks if I want to enable the macro content while the .xlsx does not prompt for this. Can anyone tell me what's going on with this sheet or know of a way that I can get the macros working in the .xlsx without having to start over with a different sheet?

• Why were namespaces removed from ECMAScript consideration?

  Namespaces were once a consideration for ECMAScript (the old ECMAScript 4) but were taken out. As Brendan Eich says in this message: One of the use-cases for namespaces in ES4 was early binding (use namespace intrinsic), both for performance and for programmer comprehension -- no chance of runtime name binding disagreeing with any earlier binding. But early binding in any dynamic code loading scenario like the web requires a prioritization or reservation mechanism to avoid early versus late binding conflicts. Plus, as some JS implementors have noted with concern, multiple open namespaces impose runtime cost unless an implementation works significantly harder. For these reasons, namespaces and early binding (like packages before them, this past April) must go. But I'm not sure I understand all of that. What exactly is a prioritization or reservation mechanism and why would either of those be needed? Also, must early binding and namespaces go hand-in-hand? For some reason I can't wrap my head around the issues involved. Can anyone attempt a more fleshed out explanation? Also, why would namespaces impose runtime costs? In my mind I can't help but see little difference in concept between a namespace and a function using closures. For instance, Yahoo and Google both have YAHOO and google objects that "act like" namespaces in that they contain all of their public and private variables, functions, and objects within a single access point. So why, then, would a namespace be so significantly different in implementation? Maybe I just have a misconception as to what a namespace is exactly.

There appears to be an issue when using it in a hidden control that is later revealed, such as a <div> tag with visible=false. • How to turn off MVC.NET version 2's RequireHttps attribute?

  I see that version 2 of MVC.NET now has a RequireHttps attribute, which works great for me. However, what's a good strategy for turning the effect off? For example, I want to use Https on some pages, but regular Http on others. Should I create my own RequireHttp attribute? EDIT: I'm using my own RequireHttp attribute, and it works fine, but I'm wondering if there's some built-in functionality in MVC.NET Version 2 that I'm missing. EDIT 2: I must not have been clear. My question concerns the following: if you use RequireHttps, then any requests after that will be over Https even if the Controller or Action is not decorated with RequireHttps. Unless I'm mistaken, you need a 2nd attribute such as RequireHttp to redirect requests to Http instead of Https.

• Visual Studio Templates - adding additional pre-existing projects

  Hey all, I'm working on a Visual Studio template where the generated project relies on a number of references, which happen to be other projects under source control. The question is how do I set this up in my ProjectGroup template? For example, if I have an already existing project at "C:\Stuff\MyUtilityProject\Utility.csproj" with a single file (Tools.cs) that I want to add to my template, how would I go about this? Here's what my vstempalte looks like. • java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file?

  I am getting this error when I include an opensource library that I had to compile from source. Now, all the suggestions on the web indicate that the code was compiled in one version and executed in another version (new on old). However, I only have one version of JRE on my system. If I run the commands: $ javac -version javac 1.5.0_18 $ java -version java version "1.5.0_18" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_18-b02) Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_18-b02, mixed mode) and check in Eclipse for the properties of the java library, I get 1.5.0_18 Therefore, I have to conclude something else, internal to a class itself, is throwing the exception?? Is that even possible?

  Hello, I am building an application that requires a search to go deeper than the initial level. I am using nested scopes to accomplish this and params in the URL For example, when a user searches for "handbag" it creates a query like the following. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I want to add a :filter param to the end of this url and reload the page with the new url. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go!&filter=lowest_price As shown above the &filter=lowest_price is added to the query. I have already written controller code to handle this and I know it works as long as the query is like the 2nd link above. my views code <div class = "filter_options"> <p> <strong>Filter by:</strong> <%= link_to_unless_current "Recent", :filter => 'recent' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Lowest Price", :filter => 'lowest_price' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Highest Price", :filter => 'highest_price' %> </p> </div> This is how I have it currently, which works if my URL does not have a search string attached to it. Unfortunately, this will go to a http://localhost:3000/junks?filter=lowest_price even if there is a search string. I would like to know how to create my links so that they add onto the search string shown in the 2nd code example. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download...   First, I did do my homework searching before posting here. My requirement seems to be slightly different compared to questions posted out there. I have a matrix like ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> in the following form | id1 | id2 | score | |-----|-----|-------| | 1 | 3 | 95% | | 1 | 2 | 100% | | 1 | 4 | 85% | | 1 | 5 | 95% | | 2 | 10 | 80% | | 2 | 15 | 99% | I want to sort the matrix column-wise (first using score, then the id1). I already have the id1 in a sorted manner. That means I also need to sort all records with the same id1 first by using score, second by the id2. The reason for doing this is to create a ranking of the id2 in each id1.
