• The Problem Should Define the Process, Not the Tool

  All around awesome tool, but not the only gadget in your toolbox.I’m stepping down from my SQL Developer pulpit today and standing up on my philosophical soap box. I’m frequently asked to help folks transition from one set of database tools over to Oracle SQL Developer, which I’m MORE than happy to do. But, I’m not looking to simply change the way people interact with Oracle database. What I care about is your productivity. Is there a faster, more efficient way for you to connect the dots, get from A to B, or just get home to your kids or to the pub for happy hour? If you have defined a business process around a specific tool, what happens when that tool ‘goes away?’ Does the business stop? No, you feel immediate pain until you are able to re-implement the process using another mechanism. Where I get confused, or even frustrated, is when someone asks me to redesign our tool to match their problem. Tools are just tools. Saying you ‘can’t load your data anymore because XYZ’ isn’t valid when you could easily do that same task via SQL*Loader, Create Table As Selects, or 9 other different mechanisms. Sometimes changes brings opportunity for improvement in the process. Don’t be afraid to step back and re-evaluate a problem with a fresh set of eyes. Just trying to replicate your process in another tool exactly as it was done in the ‘old tool’ doesn’t always make sense. Quick sidebar: scheduling a Windows program to kick off thousands if not millions of table inserts from Excel versus using a ‘proper’ server process using SQL*Loader and or external tables means sacrificing scalability and reliability for convenience. Don’t let old habits blind you to new solutions and possibilities. Of couse I’m not going to sit here and say that our tools aren’t deficient in some areas or can’t be improved upon. But I bet if we work together we can find something that’s not only better for the business, but is also better for you. What do you ‘miss’ since you’ve started using SQL Developer as your primary Oracle database tools? I’d love to start a thread here and share ideas on how we can better serve you and your organizations needs. The end solution might not look exactly what you have in mind starting out, but I had no idea I’d be a Product Manager when I started college either What can you no longer ‘do’ since you picked up SQL Developer? What hurts more than it should? What keeps you from being great versus just good?

  I made something, so after clicking a button, some text should appear in the TextView. Part of my code: def on_button1_clicked(self, builer): self.writetest = self.builder.get_object("textview1") self.writetest.insert_at_cursor("something") Unfortunately, when I click the button I get: AttributeError: 'TextView' object has no attribute 'insert_at_cursor' According to GTK Documentation there is such attribute: http://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkTextView.html#GtkTextView-insert-at-cursor I have the same problem with Entry as well, if I change TextView to Entry. But if I use set_text instead of insert_at_cursor in my code, it works.

  I have downloaded ubuntu 12.10 image recently,and burned it to disc to install on my laptop everything worked fine until now,when i started it first time it got stuck on loading (Ubuntu title and dots below) i tried restarting and it got through,but new problem appeared After typing my password and logging in,it just freezes there with background and mouse pointer only visible.i can start terminal with ctrl alt f4 but thats all then after few mins,error comes up saying that application compiz has closed unexpectedly.whatever i click (relaunch or leave closed) it just stays frozen with background only.

But when you try to write an animation problem during compilation: the program simply closes (shutdown occurs when swapbuffers, mainloop, redisplay), when you write the easiest programs have the same problem arose. Trying to catch exception by try-catch but here is not exception. How to solve this? I suffer with this a few days.   After upgrading my Ubuntu to the newest version 13.10, in the login interface, my account does not appear. I can login the guest session. There is also a remote login. I have no place to input my username to login my account. • Tiling Problem Solutions for Various Size "Dominoes"

  I've got an interesting tiling problem, I have a large square image (size 128k so 131072 squares) with dimensons 256x512... I want to fill this image with certain grain types (a 1x1 tile, a 1x2 strip, a 2x1 strip, and 2x2 square) and have no overlap, no holes, and no extension past the image boundary. Given some probability for each of these grain types, a list of the number required to be placed is generated for each. Obviously an iterative/brute force method doesn't work well here if we just randomly place the pieces, instead a certain algorithm is required. 1) all 2x2 square grains are randomly placed until exhaustion. 2) 1x2 and 2x1 grains are randomly placed alternatively until exhaustion 3) the remaining 1x1 tiles are placed to fill in all holes. It turns out this algorithm works pretty well for some cases and has no problem filling the entire image, however as you might guess, increasing the probability (and thus number) of 1x2 and 2x1 grains eventually causes the placement to stall (since there are too many holes created by the strips and not all them can be placed). My approach to this solution has been as follows: 1) Create a mini-image of size 8x8 or 16x16. 2) Fill this image randomly and following the algorithm specified above so that the desired probability of the entire image is realized in the mini-image. 3) Create N of these mini-images and then randomly successively place them in the large image. Unfortunately there are some downfalls to this simplification. 1) given the small size of the mini-images, nailing an exact probability for the entire image is not possible. Example if I want p(2x1)=P(1x2)=0.4, the mini image may only give 0.41 as the closes probability. 2) The mini-images create a pseudo boundary where no overlaps occur which isn't really descriptive of the model this is being used for. 3) There is only a fixed number of mini-images so i'm not sure how random this really is. I'm really just looking to brainstorm about possible solutions to this. My main concern is really to nail down closer probabilities, now one might suggest I just increase the mini-image size. Well I have, and it turns out that in certain cases(p(1x2)=p(2x1)=0.5) the mini-image 16x16 isn't even iteratively solvable.. So it's pretty obvious how difficult it is to randomly solve this for anything greater than 8x8 sizes.. So I'd love to hear some ideas. Thanks

  I'm using lenovo u300s (it has Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card), and I can connect to wireless network at home with no problem, but I can not connect to any networks at my university. I'm not sure if it's the case but most of university networks are open and you need to sign up your username as you enter browser. There is also an eudoroam network, but I can not connect to it either. Any suggestions? Yes I have the latest ubuntu version.

• AMD Drivers problem

  So, I'm kind of new to Ubuntu and Linux in general, I installed the latest (Ubuntu 14.04) and everything went fine, except for the resolution so I thought that it was a driver problem because I have a AMD HD 7750 and maybe it required additional proprietary drivers so I installed AMD Catalyst (Latest version), and then rebooted. And now my monitor says Can't Display and I can't see the GUI. I can go to terminal (Pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1, F2, F3 etc) but Not the UI.

• Collision detection problem in XNA

  I'm having two problems with my collision detection in XNA. There are two boxes, the red box represents a player and the blue box represents a wall. The first problem is when the player moves to the upper side or bottom side of the wall and collides with it, and then try to go to the left or right, the player will just jump in the opposite direction as seen in the video. However if I go to the right side or the left side of the wall and try to go up or down the player will smoothly go up or down without jumping. The second problem is that when I collide with the box and my key is still pressed down the blue box goes half way through red box and and goes back out and it keeps doing that until I stop pressing the keyboard. its not very clear on the video but the keeps going in and out really fast until I stop pressing the key. List customers = GetCustomerList(); var orders = from c in customers from o in c.Orders where o.OrderDate >= new DateTime(1998, 1, 1) select new xpto { TheCostumerID = c.CustomerID, CostumerOrders = o.Select(i=>i.OrderID).ToList(), }; ...but the .ToList() is a big problem, at least for me. I'm trying to find out the solution for that but so far I have acomplished nothing! Please help me.

  Hi, I am developing an iPhone application that uploads videos to TwitVid using the library TwitVid-iPhone-OAuth3. I have selected this library since Twitter is shifting to OAuth mechanism of authentication. 1) Does this new library allows to upload without user-name and password parameters? 2) I am using the following steps for uploading videos (assumed that new library allows to upload without user-name and password parameters). But, I am getting the error 'Incorrect Signature'. I am not able to identify the mistake that I am doing here. Could you please help me out to solve this problem. Authenticate the app using OAuth (MGTwitterEngine etc) which redirects the user to the web-page asking for log-in and app authentication. If the user authenticates the app, access token will obtained as final step. • Getting Google results in Java? Need help!

  Hello. Right now, I'm trying to get the results from Google in Java, by searching for a term. I'm using a desktop program, not an applet. That in itself isn't complicated. but then Google gave me a 403 error. Anyways, I added referrer and User Agent and then it worked. Now, my problem is that I don't get the results page from Google. Instead, I get their script which gets the results page. My code right now simply uses a GET request on "http://www.google.com/search?q=" + Dork; Then it outputs each line. Here is what I get when I run my program: <.!doctype html<.head<.titledork - Google Search<./title<.scriptwindow.google={kEI:"9myaS-Date).getTime()}}};try{}catch(u){}window.google.jsrt_kill=1; align:center}#logo{display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;width:103px;height:37px; <./ script<./div Lots of stuff like that. I shortened it (A LOT) and put in dots to fit it here. So my big question is: How do I turn this whole mess into the nice results page I get when searching Google with a browser? Any help would be seriously appreciated, and I really need the answer fast. Also, please keep in mind that I do NOT want to use Google's API for this. Thanks in advance!

• Where does django look for sqlite3 installation/libraries?

  Am having a bit of a problem making my django application run in SUSE linux 9. I have Python2.5 installed well, Django 1.0 installed well. Am able to execute django command django-admin startproject fine But when i run the runserver command i get the error below. i have a folder with sqlite3, i can go in there and actually run the sqlite3* application, now am wondering where does Django look for the sqlite libraries? and how can i fix this? • Compass, Haml alongside Sass installation took over ERB, need to reverse

  Hi all, I've been trying out Compass for a few days now, and just now I ran into some strange problem: The past few days, as usual, whenever I use my textmate shortcut to create a partial if not already created, that partial will be created in .erb format, but then just now, a few minutes ago, I have no idea what I have done, when I tried to create a new partial, it is prompting me to create one that ends with .haml. when I didn't create that and manually created a .erb partial with all the code that was suppose to go in there, I tried to load the page that uses that partial, it says the partial is missing. That kind of tells me now Rails is looking for Haml templates instead of erb templates. That means all my other partials are useless. And indeed they have become!!! I don't know how this happened. It was working fine with ERB just minutes ago, and suddenly Haml took over and demand all partials be written in it. So my question: Can I keep both Haml and Erb in one Rails application and use mostly erb except for Sass/compass related files? Where in Rails does it state what templating format (erb | haml) it should use? Thanks!
