  • Using TFS source control - how to remove files

    - by arame3333
I am a lone developer, and I am now using TFS 2010, having until recently used VSS. I have not found it easy to get any books for beginners to help me use this. So I have now got my project in source control. But when I check in I get references to a number of files that I no longer use. How do I remove files from the TFS Source Control repository? So in the example below you can see lots of files from different projects that I do not want to see.

  • License For (Mostly) Open Source Website / Service

    - by Ryan Sullivan
I have an interesting setup and am not sure how to license a website. I know this is not legal advice, and I am not asking for any. There are so many different Open Source Licenses and I do not have the time to read every last one to see which best fits my situation. Really, I am looking for suggestions and a nudge in the right direction. My setup is: I give away for free version of my web service with a clean website interface. The implementation I use in the actual web site is (almost) identical to what I give away. The main service works the exactly the same way, but the website interface to manage features in the service is fairly different. Really the web interfaces have the same exact backend, and the front ends accomplish the same tasks, but the service I offer on my site is very rich and uses a good deal of javascript, where I kept the interface in the version I give away as simple and javascript-less as possible. Mostly so it is easy to understand and integrate into other sites. I am not entirely sure how I should license this. It is more like I develop an open source service but have a separate site built upon it. I like the GPLv3 but I am not sure if I can use it in this case especially since I am making some money off of google ad's on the site and plan on using amazon affiliates as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do want to open it up as much as possible. But I still want to be able to continue with my own implementation. Thanks in advance for any information or help anyone can provide.

  • What are some viable alternatives to BizTalk Server?

    - by Kilhoffer
In evaluating different systems integration strategies, I've come across some words of encouragement, but also some words of frustration over BizTalk Server. What are some pros and cons to using BizTalk Server (both from a developer standpoint and a business user), and should companies also consider open source alternatives? What viable alternatives are out there? EDIT: Jitterbit seems like an interesting choice. Open Source and seems to be nicely engineered. Anyone on here have any experience working with it?

  • A look into serialPort

    - by MarekK
You wrote at: Opened SerialPort crashes C# application "A look into the .NET Framework source code helped a lot. But I think the thrown ObjectDisposedException should be caught by the SerialPort, not by the user." I'd like to take a look on source code for serialPort. How can I do it?

  • Unable to checkout log4j repository

    - by ankit
I'm using tortoiseSVN to checkout the log4j v1.2 source from - http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/logging/log4j/trunk But i keep getting this error: Error: OPTIONS of '': Could not Error: resolve hostname `svn.apache.org': No such host is known. The funny thing is that i can access 'svn.apache.org' from my browser but if i try to ping it from the command prompt, it says host not found. Does any body else face this problem? Is there any other way to get the source for log4j v1.2?

  • Is there an SCM tool made for solo programmers with key logging built in?

    - by pokstad
Are there any Source Code Management (SCM) tools made specifically for solo programmers or small groups of programmers that tracks every small change made to source code in real time? This would require all key strokes to be tracked, and any other small changes like GUI UI editing. This seems like it would be a very useful tool for a programmer trying to remember a fix he did an hour ago that they didn't manually commit.

  • Bash sourcing of functions in other languages

    - by ABach
This is, perhaps, a silly question, but it's something that I've wondered about: is it possible to, say, define a Ruby/Python/Perl/etc. function in some file and then source it in Bash (to make it available anywhere in the current shell)? At the moment, I "source" scripts/functions in other languages by creating a bash alias that executes that script... But I wonder if it's possible for Bash to interpret those other functions directly? Thanks. :)

  • Is this scenario in compliance with GPLv3?

    - by Sean Kinsey
For arguments sake, say that we create a web application , that depends on a GPLv3 licensed component, lets say Ext JS. Based on Section 0 of the license, the common notion is that the entire web application (the client side javascript) falls under the definition of a covered work: A “covered work” means either the unmodified Program or a work based on the Program. and that it will therefor have to be distributed under the same license Ok, so here comes the fun part: This is a short 'program' that is based on Ext JS var myPanel = new Ext.Panel(); The question that arises is: Have I now violated the GPL by not including the source of Ext JS and its license? Ok, so lets take another example <!doctype html> <html> <head> <title>my title</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://extjs.cachefly.net/ext-3.2.1/ext-all.js"> </script> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://extjs.cachefly.net/ext-3.2.1/resources/css/ext-all.css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> var myPanel = new Ext.Panel(); </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> Have I now violated the terms of the GPL? The code conveyed by me to you is in a non-functional state - it will have to be combined with the actual source of Ext JS, which you(your browser) will have to retrieve, from a source made public by someone else to be usable. Now, if the answer to the above is no, how does me conveying this code in visible form differ from the 'invisible' form conveyed by my web server? As a side note, a very similar thing is done in Linux with many projects that depends on less permissive licenses - the user has to retrieve these on its own and make these available for the primary lib/executable. How is this not the same if the user is informed on beforehand that he (the browser) will have to retrieve the needed resources from a different source? Just to make it clear, I'm pro FLOSS, and I have also published a number of projects licensed under more permissive licenses. The reason I'm asking this is that I still haven't found anyone offering a definitive answer to this.

  • Support FOSS Projects via T-Shirts

    - by The MYYN
Can we get a list of free and open source projects, which can be supported through purchasing branded garment? Free Software Foundation http://shop.fsf.org/ ps. I know this is extremly off-topic. But I'd like to buy clothing and support open source at the same time, if possible. And I'd like to know, where this is possible.

  • What are the most relevant OSS projects for .NET?

    - by Scott Hanselman
Not a popularity contest, but if you were to elect some in some categories, what would be the names? Here are a few suggested categories. The only criteria I’d insist on would be: needs to be fully OSS, not a one-man show, have some people involved, have source available and with a well-know open source license (hopefully with no distinction between commercial and other uses) Blog engines Wikis Web frameworks WPF frameworks Silverlight frameworks Unit test frameworks (including spec?) ASP.Net tools more specialized frameworks Scott Hanselman and Hamilton Verissimo de Oliveira

  • Open source web cam conference software

    - by BasicallyBoredWithoutAnOffice
Quick question, has anyone ever come across either a web cam API or an open source alternative that can be easily integrated to a site without having any Flash or ActionScript experience. I should probably say what I'm trying to do.... The idea is to create a Facebook app that lets friends communicate (and meet new people too) in real time over web cam. However I don't have the required experience to write the Flash part so any help would be appreciated.

  • Is It Possible to Make Close Sourced PHP Product?

    - by Morgan Cheng
I'm curious that whether all PHP product must be open sourced if it is to be deployed to other's web site. Since PHP code is executed by interpretation, if I have PHP product to be deployed on other's host, it seems no reason to prevent others view the source code. So, PHP product is destined to be open source, right?

  • Are there any inherent benefits or drawbacks to choosing Google Code vs. SourceForge vs. Codeplex?

    - by kdmurray
I've got a couple of different projects that I'd like to post up as open source. I've been trying to decide which of the three big open-source project hosting sites makes the most sense, or if I should just host it myself. Are there any inherent drawbacks or benefits to these three? Is there a "best" place to host a project? Do different sites make more sense for different kinds of projects?

  • compare a directory of files with an svn revision

    - by JoelFan
If I have a directory of files (with subdirectories) that is not under source control (no .svn directories), is there any way to compare it with a revision in svn (i.e. "svn diff")? Similar question: if I have a directory of files that is under source control, can I do a diff with to a different URL than the one it was checked out from?
