  • How to set cell's background in HTML table ?

    - by misha-moroshko
I would like to set the background of a cell in HTML table to be like this. What are my options besides using an image as background ? Are there any predefined backgrounds like this ? Maybe dotted, or diagonal lines backgrounds ? In case of image background, if I don't know in advance what would be the size of the cell, what image size should I take ? How to make it be repetitive so it would look nice ? Any HTML/CSS/Javascript/jQuery suggestions are welcome :)

  • Why is there a margin at the top of my browser?

    - by fmz
I have a web page that is displays differently in Firefox and Safari (IE testing yet to come). The page displays as expected in Safari, but there is a 50px margin between the body and the HTML that I can't determine what is causing it. Here is the CSS for the body: body { font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.333em; background: #f6eaae url(../_images/parchment-big.jpg) no-repeat center top; font-family: "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #323232; } I would really appreciate some assistance in finding what is causing this difference. Ideally the Firefox version is better because it gives that extra breathing room at the top. Thanks.

  • How to Vertically Center Images on a Line?

    - by jeremy
What's the best way to center icons on a line when the images are smaller than the line height? For example (styles inline for easier reading): <div style="line-height: 20px"> <img style="width: 12px; height: 12px;"/> Blah blah blah </div> Here's a jsFiddle example. This example also shows why vertical-align: middle does not work. I want the img to be centered against the text of the div. That is, even if the text wrapped to multiple lines, the image would be centered against a single line. Ideally, the solution would not involve setting margings/paddings on the image and would work even if I didn't know the line-height. Things I've read: How do I vertically align text next to an image with CSS? (deals with case where image is larger, doesn't seem to apply here) Understanding vertical-align

  • Why is "display: table-cell" messing up my div's?

    - by eric01
    I'm trying to center the strings "1","2" and "3" vertically as seen here: But when I use display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; for all 3 div's, but then I get his unwanted result: HTML is <div id='alldivs'> <div id='red' class='each_div'>1</div> <div id='blue' class='each_div'>2</div> <div id='green' class='each_div'>3</div> </div> CSS is .each_div { width: 80px; height: 50px; text-align: center; display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; } Demo How do I keep the 3 div's aligned vertically while keeping vertical alignment within each div?

  • Replacing div html() by echoing PHP - how to?

    - by Jared
    Hello, I have a multiple product elements that get their class and ID from PHP: $product1["codename"] = "product-1"; $product1["short"] = "Great Product 1"; $product2["codename"] = "product-2"; $product2["short"] = "Great Product 2"; <div class="leftMenuProductButton" id="'. $product1["codename"].'" >'. $product1["short"].'</div> <div class="leftMenuProductButton" id="'. $product2["codename"].'" >'. $product2["short"].'</div> These display as: <div class="leftMenuProductButton" id="product-1" > Great Product 1</div> <div class="leftMenuProductButton" id="product-2" > Great Product 2</div> In the page, I have an element that I want to replace the HTML: <div id="productPopupTop"> //Replace this content </div> Using jquery, I have tried the following: $( '.leftMenuProductButton' ).hover ( function () { var swapNAME = $(this).attr("id"); //gets the ID, #product-1, #product-2 etc. This works. $("#productPopupTop").html(' <? echo $' + swapNAME + '["short"] ?>'); //This is supposed to get something like <? echo $product-1["short"] ?> This doesn't appear to work. }, function () { //this is just here for later }); If I try to do an alert('<? echo $' + swapNAME + '["short"] ?>'); it will literally display something like <? echo $product-1["short"] ?> Please note that both the Javascript and the PHP are externally linked in a PHP file (index.php <<< (js.js, products.php) QUESTION: How do I replace the HTML() of #productPopupTop with the ["short"] of a product? If I should use Ajax, how would I code this?

  • Mixing HTML and STRUTS2 tags

    - by ryan
I have a form which has both HMTL tags and struts tags. I use the HTML tags because of alignment issues with struts tags. <s:form action = "setNode" name = "processing" method ="POST"> <script> <!-- createTree(catArray); </script> <br/> <s:radio name="processOption" label="" list="{'Add','Move','Delete'}" ></s:radio> <s:textfield name="node" ></s:textfield> <s:submit name="Go" value=" Go " align="center" /> </s:form> the createTree function creates a tree form with HTML checkbox input types. The action triggers a java function. How do i see which checkboxes are checked?

  • Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

    - by user1103990
One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one). Thank you.

  • Add code to html pages automatically

    - by piede
I need to add some code to the of several html contained in a folder on my desktop. How can i do that? I am using a prototyping tool (Axure) on Mac and I want to add some html meta tags to the generated pages. These pages can be overwritten every time I generate the prototype. What I need is a sort of script that I can launch after re-generating the prototype, to reinsert the code. There is something for windows but it doesn't work on Mac: http://joshuamorse.com/2009/01/14/axure-protonotes-an-alternative-to-protoshare/ thanks

  • How to align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browsers

    - by One Crayon
This is one of the minor CSS problems that plagues me constantly. How do folks around StackOverflow vertically align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browser? Whenever I align them right in Safari (usually using vertical-align: baseline on the input), they're completely off in Firefox and IE. Fix it in Firefox, and Safari and IE are inevitably messed up. I waste time on this every time I code a form. Here's the standard code that I work with: <form> <div> <label><input type="checkbox" /> Label text</label> </div> </form> I usually use Eric Meyer's reset, so form elements are relatively clean of overrides. Looking forward to any tips or tricks that you have to offer!

  • What causes extra space and random alignment in my divs using the 960 grid system?

    - by tomdot
I have an issue where elements in divs seemingly align randomly, not responding to any align tag, and where divs create extra space above or below its element. I'm using the 960 grid system and I have not altered the stock CSS file lest my fingers blow it up. I've put up a test page here, and please excuse some of the dodgy code :-D It's still in it's very early stages (as am I), but I don't feel I can move on until I can comfortably understand what is causing the issue. The best example on that page is the bottom horizontal bar and elements underneath. The bar adds a few pixels of dead space, and the elements below that align to different parts of their respective divs. Why is it that elements seemingly do not standardise their alignment given no instruction, and what causes extra space again where no instruction was given? My own thought was to relatively position everything individually, but I'm worried this will cause issues and 'break' the grid. Other than that, I unno. Thanks

  • How would you code this: Grid-breaking shapes

    - by BeachRunnerJoe
I'm a person that learns best from example. Currently, I'm diving into the field of Web Development after fifteen years of developing desktop apps. I'm still getting used to all the web technologies used for developing modern web sites and everywhere I look, I see cool little UI elements and question how they're implemented. So I thought I'd ask you, the web experts...the wexperts :) What are some straight forward or creative ways you could code this grid-breaking arrow... The basic layout for this page looks like... What would the html/css code look like? Would you split the image into multiple images or could you use a single image? I'm sure this is a really simple concept and it completely boggles me. I'm sorry if this is a strange question, remember I'm a noob! :) Thanks in advance for all your help! Here's a link to the original tutorial where I found these images

  • Can you tell me why my webpage displays differently in IE and how to fix it.

    - by b-rad
I've been browsing through all of the CSS related cross-browser questions trying to troubleshoot my IE styling issues with no luck. Can anyone tell me how to fix my homepage styles so that it displays the same in IE as it currently does in Firefox? I've used Firebug (probably why it looks good in Firefox) but I can't find any tools for IE that will let me change the stylesheet real time. I'm just as interested in the process of figuring out this answer as I am in the answer itself so posting the steps you took to figure it out would be beneficial. (want to be able to do this myself next time!!!) Website is AppQandA.com. Scroll down to the bottom in IE and notice the footer. It's not like this on every page.....just the main page and the questions page.

  • Pretty-print HTML via PHP without validation?

    - by brianjcohen
I'd like to automatically pretty-print (indentation, mostly) the HTML output that my PHP scripts generate. I've been messing with Tidy, but have found that in its efforts to validate and clean my code, Tidy is changing way too much. I know Tidy's intentions are good but I'm really just looking for an HTML beautifier. Is there a simpler library out there that can run in PHP and just do the pretty-printing? Or, is there a way to configure Tidy to skip all the validation stuff and just beautify?
