  • How to properly backup mediawiki database (mysql) without messing up the data?

    - by Toto
    I want to backup a mediawiki database stored in a MySQL server 5.1.36 using mysqldump. Most of the wiki articles are written in spanish and a don't want to mess up with it by creating the dump with the wrong character set. mysql> status -------------- ... Current database: wikidb Current user: root@localhost ... Server version: 5.1.36-community-log MySQL Community Server (GPL) .... Server characterset: latin1 Db characterset: utf8 Client characterset: latin1 Conn. characterset: latin1 ... Using the following command: mysql> show create table text; I see that the table create statement set the charset to binary: CREATE TABLE `text` ( `old_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `old_text` mediumblob NOT NULL, `old_flags` tinyblob NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`old_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=317 DEFAULT CHARSET=binary MAX_ROWS=10000000 AVG_ROW_LENGTH=10240 How should I use mysqldump to properly generate a backup for that database?

  • Merging MySQL Structure and Data

    - by Shahid
    I have a MySQL database running on a deployment machine which also contains data. Then I have another MySQL database which has evolved in terms of STRUCTURE + DATA for some time. I need a way to merge the changes (ONLY) for both structure and data to the DB in deployment machine without disturbing the existing data. Does anyone know of a tool available which can do this safely. I have had a look at a few comparison tools but I need a tool which can automate the merge operation. Note also that most of the data in the tables is in BINARY so I can't use many file comparison tools. Does any one know of a solution to this? thanks

  • PHP/MYSQL Trouble Selecting by Primary Key

    - by djs22
    Hi all, So I have a primary key column called key. I'm trying to select the row with key = 1 via this code: $query ="SELECT * FROM Bowlers WHERE key = '1'"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); For some reason, I'm getting this result: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'key = '1'' at line 1 The mysql statement works for using other keys, ie WHERE name = 'djs22'. Any ideas?

  • Getting the avg of the top 10 students from each school

    - by dave
    Hi all -- We have a school district with 38 elementary schools. The kids took a test. The averages for the schools are widely dispersed, but I want to compare the averages of JUST THE TOP 10 students from each school. Requirement: use temporary tables only. I have done this in a very work-intensive, error-prone sort of way as follows. (sch_code = e.g., 9043; -- schabbrev = e.g., "Carter"; -- totpct_stu = e.g., 61.3) DROP TEMPORARY TABLE IF EXISTS avg_top10 ; CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE avg_top10 ( sch_code VARCHAR(4), schabbrev VARCHAR(75), totpct_stu DECIMAL(5,1) ); INSERT INTO avg_top10 SELECT sch_code , schabbrev , totpct_stu FROM test_table WHERE sch_code IN ('5489') ORDER BY totpct_stu DESC LIMIT 10; -- I do that last query for EVERY school, so the total -- length of the code is well in excess of 300 lines. -- Then, finally... SELECT schabbrev, ROUND( AVG( totpct_stu ), 1 ) AS top10 FROM avg_top10 GROUP BY schabbrev ORDER BY top10 ; -- OUTPUT: ----------------------------------- schabbrev avg_top10 ---------- --------- Goulding 75.4 Garth 77.7 Sperhead 81.4 Oak_P 83.7 Spring 84.9 -- etc... Question: So this works, but isn't there a lot better way to do it? Thanks! PS -- Looks like homework, but this is, well...real.

  • Preserving indentation when inserting HTML from MySQL

    - by Benjamin
    I am using MySQL and PHP to populate parts of a site, often with HTML stored in a TEXT field. I like to keep my HTML indented so that the source is neat and easy to read, for example: <body> <div> <p>Blahblah</p> </div> </body> However, when the HTML is pulled from MySQL, I end up with: <body> <div> <p>Blahblahblah</p> </div> </body> This is quite ugly when there is a large amount of HTML being inserted into a DIV that is significantly indented. How can I stop this from happening? FYI, I use wordwrap() to keep each line from being too long.

  • Database table relationships: Always also relate to specified value (Linq to SQL in .NET Framework)

    - by sinni800
    I really can not describe my question better in the title. If anyone has suggestions: Please tell! I use the Linq to SQL framework in .NET. I ran into something which could be easily solved if the framework supported this, it would be a lot of extra coding otherwise: I have a n to n relation with a helper table in between. Those tables are: Items, places and the connection table which relates items to places and the other way. One item can be found in many places, so can one place have many items. Now of course there will be many items which will be in ALL places. Now there is a problem: Places can always be added. So I need a place-ID which encompasses ALL places, always. Like maybe a place-id "0". If the helper table has a row with the place-id of zero, this should be visible in all places. In SQL this would be a simple "Where [...] or place-id = 0", but how do I do this in Linq relations? Also, for a little side question: How could I manage "all but this place" kind of exclusions?

  • A GUID as the MySQL table's Primary Key or as a separate column

    - by Ben
    I have a multi-process program that performs, in a 2 hour period, 5-10 million inserts to a 34GB table within a single Master/Slave MySQL setup (plus an equal number of reads in that period). The table in question has only 5 fields and 3 (single field) indexes. The primary key is auto-incrementing. I am far from a DBA, but the database appears to be crippled during this two hour period. So, I have a couple of general questions. 1) How much bang will I get out of batching these writes into units of 10? Currently, I am writing each insert serially because, after writing, I immediately need to know, in my program, the resulting primary key of each insert. The PK is the only unique field presently and approximating the order of insertion with something like a Datetime field or a multi-column value is not acceptable. If I perform a bulk insert, I won't know these IDs, which is a problem. So, I've been thinking about turning the auto-increment primary key into a GUID and enforcing uniqueness. I've also been kicking around the idea of creating a new column just for the purposes of the GUID. I don't really see the what that achieves though, that the PK approach doesn't already offer. As far as I can tell, the big downside to making the PK a randomly generated number is that the index would take a long time to update on each insert (since insertion order would not be sequential). Is that an acceptable approach for a table that is taking this number of writes? Thanks, Ben

  • Group MySQL Data into Arbitrarily Sized Time Buckets

    - by Eric J.
    How do I count the number of records in a MySQL table based on a timestamp column per unit of time where the unit of time is arbitrary? Specifically, I want to count how many record's timestamps fell into 15 minute buckets during a given interval. I understand how to do this in buckets of 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day etc. using MySQL date functions, e.g. SELECT YEAR(datefield) Y, MONTH(datefield) M, DAY(datefield) D, COUNT(*) Cnt FROM mytable GROUP BY YEAR(datefield), MONTH(datefield), DAY(datefield) but how can I group by 15 minute buckets?

  • How to link a table to a field a in MySQL server

    - by Nek
    I have this data from a xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <words> <id>...</id> <word>...</word> <meaning>...</meaning> <translation> <ES>...</ES> <PT>...</PT> </translation> </words> This forms the table named "words", which has four fields ("id","word","meaning" and "translation"). On the other hand, the "translation" field can hold several languages like ES,PT,EN,JA,KO,etc... So I create a table ("words.translation", one field is "id" and the others ones are languages ids like "ES","PT",...). I'm sorry for this newby question, but I'd like to know a couple of things about this one-to-many relationship. How to join (or link?) this two tables in MySQL? What information does the "translation" field in the "words" table has to store? How is the sql query to get all the word information (JOIN syntax used?) Thanks for your patience.

  • Using indexes on/through a MySQL view

    - by Peeja
    We've got a MySQL table in which rows are never updated, but instead new rows are added and the old ones marked obsolete. Think Rails' acts_as_paranoid, but for every update. To make working with Rails sane, we've got a view which selects only the rows which are "current". That makes a much better "table" for our ActiveRecord model. The snag: our indexes aren't being used anymore. Queries on the view don't use the underlying tables' indexes. You can't add an index to a view. Without indexes, the app is unbearably slow. The only solution we've come up with is to build a materialized view, but that's a pain in MySQL because they're not natively supported. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Rows added to table are not showing up

    - by Lars
    This has been asked before, but I have found no solution that worked for me yet: When adding rows to a table from code, the rows are not showing up in the application. There is one row I specified in XML, that one is showing up, but nothing below it. This is the code: public void addRow(LocationMessage locationMsg){ View messageView = theInflater.inflate(R.layout.homepage, null); TableLayout table = (TableLayout)messageView.findViewById(R.id.distanceTable); TextView senderNameTextView = new TextView(thisContext); senderNameTextView.setText(locationMsg.getSenderName()); TableRow tr = new TableRow(thisContext); tr.addView(distanceTextView); table.addView(tr); rows.addFirst(messageView); } homepage.xml contains this, I removed some elements and parameters: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout> <TabHost> <TabWidget /> <FrameLayout> [..] <LinearLayout> [..] <TableLayout android:id="@+id/distanceTable" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center" android:background="#DDDDDD" android:stretchColumns="1" > <TableRow> <TextView android:textColor="#000000" android:text="@string/label_device" android:layout_gravity="center" android:padding="3dip" android:textSize="18sp" /> <TextView android:textColor="#000000" android:text="@string/label_distance" android:layout_gravity="center" android:padding="3dip" android:textSize="18sp" /> <TextView android:textColor="#000000" android:text="@string/label_time" android:layout_gravity="center" android:padding="3dip" android:textSize="18sp" /> </TableRow> </TableLayout> </LinearLayout> </FrameLayout> </TabHost> </LinearLayout> Unfortunately hierarchyviewer.bat doesn't work for me in order to check if the rows are there but just not visible. In the debugger it looks fine to me.

  • Heavy Mysql operation & Time Constraints [closed]

    - by Rahul Jha
    There is a performance issue where that I have stuck with my application which is based on PHP & MySql. The application is for Data Migration where data has to be uploaded and after various processes (Cleaning from foreign characters, duplicate check, id generation) it has to be inserted into one central table and then to 5 different tables. There, an id is generated and that id has to be updated to central table. There are different sets of records and validation rules. The problem I am facing is that when I insert say(4K) rows file (containing 20 columns) it is working fine within 15 min it gets inserted everywhere. But, when I insert the same records again then at this time it is taking one hour to insert (ideally it should get inserted by marking earlier inserted data as duplicate). After going through the log file, I noticed is that there is a Mysql select statement where I am checking the duplicates and getting ID which are duplicates. Then I am calling a function inside for loop which is basically inserting records into 5 tables and updates id to central table. This Calling function is major time of whole process. P.S. The records has to be inserted record by record.. Kindly Suggest some solution.. //This is that sample code $query=mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT p1.ID FROM table1 p1, table2 p2, table3 a WHERE p2.datatype =0 AND (p1.datatype =1 || p1.datatype=2) AND p2.ID =0 AND p1.ID = a.ID AND p1.coulmn1 = p2.column1 AND p1.coulmn2 = p2.coulmn2 AND a.coulmn3 = p2.column3"); $num=mysql_num_rows($query); for($i=0;$i<$num;$i++) { $f=mysql_result($query,$i,"ID"); //calling function RecordInsert($f); }

  • How to get number of rows deleted from mysql in schell script

    - by simonlord
    Hi all I can't work out how to get the mysql client to return the number of rows deleted to the shell when running a delete. Does anyone know what option will enable this? Or ways around it? Here's what i'm trying, but i get no output: #!/bin/bash deleted=`mysql mydb -e "delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'"|tail -n 1` I was expecting something like this as the output from mysql: deleted 999999 Which is why i have the tail -n 1 so i only pick up the count and not the column name. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • MySQL SELECT combining 3 SELECTs INTO 1

    - by Martin Tóth
    Consider following tables in MySQL database: entries: creator_id INT entry TEXT is_expired BOOL other: creator_id INT entry TEXT userdata: creator_id INT name VARCHAR etc... In entries and other, there can be multiple entries by 1 creator. userdata table is read only for me (placed in other database). I'd like to achieve a following SELECT result: +------------+---------+---------+-------+ | creator_id | entries | expired | other | +------------+---------+---------+-------+ | 10951 | 59 | 55 | 39 | | 70887 | 41 | 34 | 108 | | 88309 | 38 | 20 | 102 | | 94732 | 0 | 0 | 86 | ... where entries is equal to SELECT COUNT(entry) FROM entries GROUP BY creator_id, expired is equal to SELECT COUNT(entry) FROM entries WHERE is_expired = 0 GROUP BY creator_id and other is equal to SELECT COUNT(entry) FROM other GROUP BY creator_id. I need this structure because after doing this SELECT, I need to look for user data in the "userdata" table, which I planned to do with INNER JOIN and select desired columns. I solved this problem with selecting "NULL" into column which does not apply for given SELECT: SELECT creator_id, COUNT(any_entry) as entries, COUNT(expired_entry) as expired, COUNT(other_entry) as other FROM ( SELECT creator_id, entry AS any_entry, NULL AS expired_entry, NULL AS other_enry FROM entries UNION SELECT creator_id, NULL AS any_entry, entry AS expired_entry, NULL AS other_enry FROM entries WHERE is_expired = 1 UNION SELECT creator_id, NULL AS any_entry, NULL AS expired_entry, entry AS other_enry FROM other ) AS tTemp GROUP BY creator_id ORDER BY entries DESC, expired DESC, other DESC ; I've left out the INNER JOIN and selecting other columns from userdata table on purpose (my question being about combining 3 SELECTs into 1). Is my idea valid? = Am I trying to use the right "construction" for this? Are these kind of SELECTs possible without creating an "empty" column? (some kind of JOIN) Should I do it "outside the DB": make 3 SELECTs, make some order in it (let's say python lists/dicts) and then do the additional SELECTs for userdata? Solution for a similar question does not return rows where entries and expired are 0. Thank you for your time.

  • Integrating TFS and MySQL

    - by user294043
    We are developing an application with Visual Studio 2008 and TFS. Our database is a MySQL DB. As we develop we keep the new queries that need to be applied to the database of our new release as the New Version Update Queries. Right now I'm keeping them in a simple text file (which is a painful task!). I know that TFS integrates with MSSQL and makes this job very easy. I've already asked our consultant from Microsoft if there is any way to integrate TFS and MySQL, and his answer was "NO". So I was wondering if anyone knows any smart way of handling this issue?

  • SubSonic isn't generating MySql foreign key tables

    - by keith
    I two tables within a MySql 5.1.34 database. When using SubSonic to generate the DAL, the foreign-key relationship doesn't get scripted, ie; I have no Parent.ChildCollection object. Looking inside the generated DAL Parent class shows the following; //no foreign key tables defined (0) I have tried SubSonic 2.1 and 2.2, and various MySql 5 versions. I must be doing something wrong procedurally - any help would be greatly appreciated. This has always just worked 'out-the-box' when using MS-SQL. TABLE `parent` ( `ParentId` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `SomeData` VARCHAR(25) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ParentId`) ) ENGINE=INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; TABLE `child` ( `ChildId` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `ParentId` INT(11) NOT NULL, `SomeData` VARCHAR(25) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ChildId`), KEY `FK_child` (`ParentId`), CONSTRAINT `FK_child` FOREIGN KEY (`ParentId`) REFERENCES `parent` (`ParentId`) ) ENGINE=INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

  • Mysql many to many problem (leaderborad/scoreboard)

    - by zoko2902
    Hi all! I'm working on a small project in regards of the upcoming World Cup. I'm building a roster/leaderboard/scoredboard based on groups with national teams. The idea is to have information on all upcoming matches within the group or in the knockout phase (scores, time of the match, match stats etc.). Currently I'm stuck with the DB in that I can't come up with a query that would return paired teams in a row. I have these 3 tables: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_team` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `description` VARCHAR(250) NULL , `flag` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `image` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `added` TIMESTAMP NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`id`) , CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_match` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `score` VARCHAR(6) NULL , `date` DATE NULL , `time` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `added` TIMESTAMP NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`id`) , CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_team_has_match` ( `wc_team_id` INT NOT NULL , `wc_match_id` INT NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`wc_team_id`, `wc_match_id`) , I've simplified the tables so we don't go in the wrong direction. Now I've tried al kinds of joins and groupings I could think of, but I never seem to get. Example guery: SELECT t.wc_team_id,t.wc_match_id,c.id.c.name,d.id,d.name FROM wc_team_has_match AS t LEFT JOIN wc_match AS s ON t.wc_match_id = s.id LEFT JOIN wc_team AS c ON t.wc_team_id = c.id LEFT JOIN wc_team AS d ON t.wc_team_id = d.id Which returns: wc_team_id wc_match_id id name id name 16 5 16 Brazil 16 Brazil 18 5 18 Argentina 18 Argentina But what I really want is: wc_team_id wc_match_id id name id name 16 5 16 Brazil 18 Argentina Keep in mind that a group has more matches I want to see all those matches not only one. Any pointer or suggestion would be extremly appreciated since I'm stuck like a duck on this one :).

  • Organize array in PHP from mysql

    - by Matthew Carter
    Hi i have a social networking website. what i want it to do is pull out my friends status updates. basically what it does is i have a mysql query that pulls out all of my friends and in that while loop there is another mysql query that pulls out the status's from my friends. i want it to be in order of date but since its one while loop in another what it does is pull out all status's from friend 1 then 2 then 3 and not in order by date. i even tried ORDER BY DATE but that just ordered it by date within the friend.. my thought is that i could putt it all in an array and friends is one thing and the values is the stats. then just sort by values would this work and how could i do it. THANKS SO MUCH
