  • iPhone: Crash When Deleting UITableView Rows

    Hi, I am new in iPhone development. I am developing an application that fetches a value from a database and displays it in a table view. I want to delete table rows one by one but the rows do not delete and the application crashes.   • iPhone: Using dispatch_after to mimick NSTimer

    Don't know a whole lot about blocks. How would you go about mimicking a repeating NSTimer with dispatch_after? My problem is that I want to "pause" a timer when the app moves to the background, but subclassing NSTimer does not seem to work. I tried something which seems to work. I cannot judge its performance implications or whether it could be greatly optimized.   • selecting a row by means of a button ... using didSelectRowAtIndexPath

    hey people , I have a question concerning a button I would like to create which selects my previous selected row. This is what I came up so far but since I'm new with the functionality and such I could definately use some pointers I created a toolbar with a button and behind this button is the following action. -(void)clickRow { selectedRow = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow]; [self.tableView:[self tableView] didSelectRowAtIndexPath:selectedRow]; } in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath there is a rootViewController being pushed rvController = [RootViewController alloc] ...etc So what I would like is my function clickRow to select the row and push the new rootviewcontroller (which has the right info since I'm using a tree ). I tried something like this as well -(void)clickRow { NSDictionary *dictionary = [self.tableDataSource objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSArray *Children = [dictionary objectForKey:@"Children"]; rvController = [[RootViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"RootViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; rvController.CurrentLevel += 1; rvController.CurrentTitle = [dictionary objectForKey:@"Title"]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:rvController animated:YES]; rvController.tableDataSource = Children; [rvController release]; } The last function works a little but a little is not enough;) For instance if I press the middle row or any other it constantly selects the toprow. thnx all for those of you reading and trying to help

  • Why does my UIScrollView change it's original content offset when I scroll?

    Before I scroll, my UIScrollView is laid out perfectly. See here However if I scroll up, the view bounces as I go out of bounds and then resets too high. See here I am going to guess this has to do with a hack that I did earlier to get the view to originally show like in the first screen shot. For some reason, to get my view to look like the second screen shot, I do: [scrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(0,-50) animated:YES]; in viewDidLoad But if I set the content offset to 0,0 in viewDidLoad, I get something that looks like the second screen shot when the view loads. This doesn't make much sense to me because if the content offset is 0,0 I would think the content should begin in the upper right corner of the screen. Does anyone know what could be going on here?   • Should I return an NSMutableString in a method that returns NSString

    Ok, so I have a method that takes an NSString as input, does an operation on the contents of this string, and returns the processed string. So the declaration is: - (NSString *) processString: (NSString *) str; The question: should I just return the NSMutableString instance that I used as my "work" buffer, or should I create a new NSString around the mutable one, and return that? So should I do this: - (NSString *) processString: (NSString *) str { NSMutableString *work = [NSMutableString stringWithString: str]; // process 'work' return work; } Or this: - (NSString *) processString: (NSString *) str { NSMutableString *work = [NSMutableString stringWithString: str]; // process 'work' return [NSString stringWithString: work]; // or [work stringValue]? } The second one makes another copy of the string I'm returning, unless NSString does smart things like copy-on-modify. But the first one is returning something the caller could, in theory, go and modify later. I don't care if they do that, since the string is theirs. But are there valid reasons for preferring the latter form over the former? And, is either stringWithString or stringValue preferred over the other?

  • Corrupt iPhone App Name

    I've done an adhoc build to test an application, but when I drag it into iTunes to add to my devices it is getting a corrupt name. It comes up with the name "Myapp Name <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//APPLE//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"" which continues with the whole plist I've tried the obvious, clean/rebuild/reboot. This worked fine last time I worked on the app and I've done nothing to project settings other than incement the version number and a couple of minor code changes. I've since update XCode to 3.2.1 and iTunes to 9.0.3. Anyone seen this before?

    I'm trying to print out the date in a certain format: NSDate *today = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [dateFormatter setDateFormat:@"yyyyMMddHHmmss"]; NSString *dateStr = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:today]; If the iPhone is set to 24 hour time, this works fine, if on the other hand the user has set it to 24 hour time, then back to AM/PM (it works fine until you toggle this setting) then it appends the AM/PM on the end even though I didn't ask for it: 20080927030337 PM Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug with firmware 2.1? Edit 1: Made description clearer Edit 2 workaround: It turns out this is a bug, to fix it I set the AM and PM characters to "": [dateFormatter setAMSymbol:@""]; [dateFormatter setPMSymbol:@""];

    I have been using UIViewControllers and initWithNibName with much success, basically using them as a convenient way to design the view with Interface Builder. Unfortunately I have built a hierarchy of views before noticing this line in the UIViewController documentation: Note: You should not use view controllers to manage views that fill only a part of their window My question is this: Having a very simple NIB that only has a UIView in addition to the default First Responder and Owning Object, what is the simplest way to load the UIView into my code? I have not been able to get loadNibNamed:owner:options: to work at this point, but suspect the answer will involve it somehow.

    I have a daemon that is running as user nobody. It needs to copy a file that I specify into /Users/Shared/MyFolder If I tell it to copy a file that is already in /Users/Shared/ it works fine. If I tell it to copy it from somewhere in my home directory like the desktop, the copy fails. I'm using NSFileManager copyPath:toPath: Any ideas?

  • Optimal pixel format for drawing on iPhone?

    Pretty simple question: when doing some pretty intense drawing with CoreGraphics on the iPhone, how can I specify the pixel format to get optimal performance? Is the format that I get from the context via UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext per definition the best one? I know that RGB565 is supposed to be the fastest to use in OpenGL. Does that go for CoreGraphics as well? General advice?

    I've taken over a code base that has subtle flaws - audio player goes mute, unlogged crashes, odd behavior, etc. I found a way to provoke one instance of the problem and tracked it to this code snippet: NSURL *soundURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[[soundsToPlay objectAtIndex:count] description] ofType:@"mp3"]]; self.audioPlayer = nil; self.audioPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:soundURL error:nil]; self.audioPlayer.delegate = self; AudioSessionSetActive(YES); [audioPlayer play]; When I comment out the 2nd line (nil) and add a release to the end, this problem stops. [self.audioPlayer release]; Where do I go from here? Nils are used in a similar fashion throughout the code (and may cause similar problems) - is there a safe way to remove them? I'm new to memory management - how can I discern proper nil usage from bad nil usage?

  • How do I send the mutable string to the NSTextField properly?

    So I have all this code that I have debugged and it seems to be fine. I made a mutable string and for some reason I can not get it to be displayed on my label. the debugger says "2010-04-22 22:50:26.126 Fibonacci[24836:10b] * -[NSTextField setString:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x130150" What is wrong with this?   • UIActivityIndicatorView in a class without a view

    Hi I have defined a class that does a lengthy task and I call it from several other classes. Now I want to show an Activity Indicator while this task is doing it's thing, and then remove it once it's done. Since this is just a boring background task, this class doesn't have a view, and I guess that is where I run into my problem. I can't get this thing to show.
