    Struggling with locating patches for Sun products? Can't find your Oracle System Drivers? This question has been raised many times by customers and was the source of a short video in the Oracle System Support Newsletter in February 2012. The transition between SunSolve and My Oracle Support is to change how you think about the type of patch your looking for. For example, in SunSolve you might have typed e1000g if looking for an Enternet Driver.. but entering e1000g will not find anything in My Oracle Support - Patches and Update Menu. As you need to use the Product (Advanced) search which is driven of the Product Name, therefore you need to type "Ethernet" and select the ethernet product you are looking for to locate the patches for this product. Just to recap that video: If you are looking for the e1000g Ethernet Driver - You need to use Advance Search and search for Enternet 1. Log into My Oracle Support - Select Patches and Updates - Select Product or Family (Advanced Search). 2. In the product line enter: Ethernet and select the product name from the menu. 3. Check remove supersede patches - that ensure you only get relevant current patches in the results. 4. Select Search and the results are displayed. Now you have more options to include the platform (Solaris,Linux etc.) if want to further narrow the search. Need more information?   • Application passwords and SQLite security

    I have been searching on google for information regarding application passwords and SQLite security for some time, and nothing that I have found has really answered my questions. Here is what I am trying to figure out: 1) My application is going to have an optional password activity that will be called when the application is first opened. My questions for this are a) If I store the password via android preference or SQLite database, how can I ensure security and privacy for the password, and b) how should password recovery be handled? Regarding b) from above, I have thought about requiring an email address when the password feature is enabled, and also a password hint question for use when requesting password recovery. Upon successfully answering the hint question, the password is then emailed to the email address that was submitted. I am not completely confident in the security and privacy of the email method, especially if the email is sent when the user is connected to an open, public wireless network. 2) My application will be using an SQLite database, which will be stored on the SD card if the user has one. Regardless of whether it is stored on the phone or the SD card, what options do I have for data encryption, and how does that affect the application performance? Thanks in advance for time taken to answer these questions. I think that there may be other developers struggling with the same concerns.

  • Browser security when calling HTTP assets via a SWF on a HTTPS site

    We have a site that runs on HTTPS and needs to pull in various JS assets to run a video player on the page. We get a browser security warning on this page because the JS files we are externally calling are being accessed via HTTP, not HTTPS. E.g. // HTTP reference on a HTTPS site <script src="http://the-cdn.tld/player.js"></script> Simply accessing this one JS assets via HTTP and not HTTPS will cause the browser security warning which we need to get rid of. The provider of the JS file does not support an HTTPS equivalent (like Google Analytics does). We would ideally love to just do the following, but the provider does not have this: // HTTPS reference on a HTTPS site <script src="https://the-cdn.tld/player.js"></script> One option we had was to just download a copy of the JS file and serve it on the HTTPS site, however we have concerns with this as it is not recommended by the provider and will not include updates from them. Assuming we cannot do that, we were thinking a possible other option would be to use a SWF file as a proxy. We were thinking that we could have one of our flash guys create a SWF that loads in the HTTP-served JS file to the page. We were wondering that if this SWF makes the request, would that prevent the browser from showing the security warning or not? I assumed that we would still see the warning since the SWF is still making the request through the browser, but I wanted to see what the hive mind thinks.

    Hi, I have imported an axis based wsdl into a VS 2008 project as a service reference. I need to be able to pass security details such as username/password and nonce values to call the axis based service.     Hi guys I have an ASP.Net MVC app using Integrated Security that I need to be able grant open access to a specific route. The route in question is '~/Agreements/Upload' and the config I have setup looks like this: <configuration> ... <location path="~/Agreements/Upload"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> ... </configuration> I have tried a few things and nothing has worked thus far. In IIS under Directory Security Authentication Methods I only have "Integrated Windows Authentication" selected. Now this could be part of my problem (as even though IIS allows the above IIS doesn't). But if that's the case how do I configure it so that Integrated Security works but allows people who aren't authenticated to access the given route. Cheers Anthony

Basically this client application already has their soap messages all set up from its past integrations with other companies. So we've opted to just build a web service using an ASMX file that matches the WSDL that they're already setup to consume. Is it possible to get WS-Security working on an ASMX file or is ASMX too simplistic and I have to upgrade to WFC (which I really don't want to do)?

    Hello, I've been working on this task for too long to abandon the idea of using Spring Security to achieve it, but I wish that the community will provide with some support that will help reduce the regret that I have for choosing Spring Security. Enough ranting and now let's get to the point. I have also doubted the annotation and tried with declarative transaction definition, but still with no luck. One important point is that I have used the statement used to insert the oid in the database earlier in the method directly on the database and it worked, and also threw a unique constraint exception at me when it tried to insert it in the method. I'm using Spring Security 2.0.8 and IceFaces 1.8 (which doesn't support spring 3.0 but definetely supprorts 2.0.x, specially when I keep caling SpringSecurityUtils.assureThreadLocalAuthSet()). My AppServer is Tomcat 6.0, and my DB Server is MySQL 6.0 I wish to get back a reply soon because I need to get this task off my way

    Hi All... I have configured spring security core plugin using requestmap table inside the database.. Now inside requestmap table I have all the possible urls and it's equivalent roles who can access that url... Now I want to generate menus and submenus based on the urls stored in requestmap table... So my requirement is to check the urls of menu & submenus against the logged in users privileges... And if logged in user has any one privilege then I need to display that main menu and the available submenus.... For e.g. I have a menu in my project called user which has a following submenus : **Users (main menu)** Manage Users (sub menu) Import Users (sub menu) Now inside my header.gsp I have successfully achieved the above requirement using if else condition, like : if ( privs.contains("/users/manageUsers") || privs.contains("/users/importUsers")) here privs are the list of urls from requestmap table for logged in user. But I want to achieve these using spring security tag lib, so for comparing urls I have find following tag from spring security core documentation : <sec:access url="/users/manageUsers"> But i am bit confuse that how I can replace or condition using tag library.. Is there any tag available which checks from multiple urls and evaluate it to true or false ? Of course I can do using sec:access tag with some flag logic, but is there any tags available which can fulfill my requirement directly ? Thanks in advance...

    Hi, As I am creating more web applications that are targeted for multiple users, I figured out that I have to start thinking about user management and security. At a glance and in my ideal world, all users belong to a group. Permissions and access is thus defined per group (and inherited by the users of that group). Logically, I have my group of administrators, which are identified with a level "7" (integer) clearance. A group of webusers have for example level "1". This in generally all works great for me, but I need some kind of list that I have to keep in mind how I secure my system, and some general practices. I am not looking for a specific environment; I want to learn the why's and how's. An example is privilege escalation. If someone would be able to "push" themselves inside a group with higher privileges, for example the Administration, how can I prevent this, or what measures should I take to have some sort of precaution? I don't like in that case to walk into a caveat. My question is basically: where can I find a good resource, list, policy, book that explains the security of web applications, the why's, the how's and readable if you don't have any experience in the realm of advanced security? I prefer a free resource, as I believe I couldn't be the first one who thought about this. Thank you for your answers, comments and feedback.

    The Growing Importance of Network Virtualization We often focus on server virtualization when we discuss cloud computing, but just as often we neglect to consider some of the critical implications of that technology. The ability to create virtual environments (or VEs [1]) means that we can create, destroy, activate and deactivate, and more importantly, MOVE them around within the cloud infrastructure. This elasticity and mobility has profound implications for how network services are defined, managed, and used to provide cloud services. It's not just servers that benefit from virtualization, it's the network as well. Network virtualization is becoming a hot topic, and not just for discussion but for companies like Oracle and others who have recently acquired net virtualization companies [2,3]. But even before this topic became so prominent, Solaris engineers were working on technologies in Solaris 11 to virtualize network services, known as Project Crossbow [4]. And why is network virtualization so important? Because old assumptions about network devices, topology, and management must be re-examined in light of the self-service, elasticity, and resource sharing requirements of cloud computing infrastructures. Static, hierarchical network designs, and inter-system traffic flows, need to be reconsidered and quite likely re-architected to take advantage of new features like virtual NICs and switches, bandwidth control, load balancing, and traffic isolation. For example, traditional multi-tier Web services (Web server, App server, DB server) that share net traffic over Ethernet wires can now be virtualized and hosted on shared-resource systems that communicate within a larger server at system bus speeds, increasing performance and reducing wired network traffic. And virtualized traffic flows can be monitored and adjusted as needed to optimize network performance for dynamically changing cloud workloads. Additionally, as VEs come and go and move around in the cloud, static network configuration methods cannot easily accommodate the routing and addressing flexibility that VE mobility implies; virtualizing the network itself is a requirement. Oracle Solaris 11 [5] includes key network virtualization technologies needed to implement cloud computing infrastructures. It includes features for the creation and management of virtual NICs and switches, and for the allocation and control of the traffic flows among VEs [6]. Additionally it allows for both sharing and dedication of hardware components to network tasks, such as allocating specific CPUs and vNICs to VEs, and even protocol-specific management of traffic. So, have a look at your current network topology and management practices in view of evolving cloud computing technologies. And don't simply duplicate the physical architecture of servers and connections in a virtualized environment…rethink the traffic flows among VEs and how they can be optimized using Oracle Solaris 11 and other Oracle products and services. [1] I use the term "virtual environment" or VE here instead of the more commonly used "virtual machine" or VM, because not all virtualized operating system environments are full OS kernels under the control of a hypervisor…in other words, not all VEs are VMs. In particular, VEs include Oracle Solaris zones, as well as SPARC VMs (previously called LDoms), and x86-based Solaris and Linux VMs running under hypervisors such as OEL, Xen, KVM, or VMware.   • Internships at Oracle &ndash; a truly multicultural experience!

    Hello everybody!!! Our names are Lena and Laura, we both study in the same Grande Ecole in France, IPAG and we are about to complete our 16 week-internship in Oracle in the UK. Below a summary of our experience! My name is Lena. I am 20 years old and joined Oracle UK in September 2010 – more specifically, I joined the EMEA Graduate's Recruitment Team (EMEA stands for Europe, Middle East and Africa), and I have learned a lot about working life. It was a really good experience, which made me realize that I soon will be looking for a fulltime employee in a company in less than 3 years. I am glad to have had this first experience in Oracle. First of all because it's a very welcoming company which treats interns as employees and gives them the opportunity to show their potential. I also discovered that it is nice to work in a company where everybody knows everybody, and where the atmosphere is really good. The multicultural aspect is one of the most important and beautiful elements of Oracle. It gives you the opportunity to have contacts in many parts of the world and discover a lot of nice people. During my internship I learned a lot about Recruitment. I discovered I want to work in a Human Resources role after I graduate. I like the contact I will have with candidates and the fact that I have to be in touch with managers and understand their needs. I would be glad to work for the company in the near future. I would like to thank all my team members for welcoming me like they did. It was a real pleasure to share this experience in Oracle and in this team and I hope to return after I graduate.   Hi all! I am Laura. My wish for this internship was to focus on training of personal skills for employees and, by the same time of course, for the company’s development.... and I did it in the OTD team (EMEA Organization Talent Development Team). I could not have done something better than this! It was truly instructive. I learnt how to work in such a big international company, the values and the rules to follow and to interact and be part of the organisation. In Oracle, there are so different aspects of every department, so many possibilities in HR as well as in Finance or Sales... The jobs are very various and the employees’ cultures are also really different thanks to this international and multicultural company. I am working with OTD for the entire EMEA region, having many of my colleagues in other countries, with other cultures, other ways to work, and other ways to think... this is so inspiring! Oracle offers the best environment to learn about a job, as well as to learn about work life in such large companies. This company is about new technologies, it always goes fast, and everything changes quickly! You have to be aware of these changes and keep track of the wishes of customers. For OTD of course, these customers are the employees. Looking back I have learnt more then I would have ever thought and I know that it is what I want to do... And now I hope to come back again!   • Price Drop for Processor based License on Exalytics

    ·       33% reduction in the list `per processor` license pricing for the Oracle BI Foundation Suite ·       New capacity-based licensing which allows customers to think big & start small, significantly lowering the entry price point for an Exalytics. Oracle BI Software List Price changes In response to new powerful platforms like the in-memory Oracle Exalytics with 40 cpu cores (counted under Oracle pricing policy as 20 “processors”), the list price of “Oracle BI Foundation Suite” (BIFS) is reduced by 33% from $450K per processor to $300K per processor. Capacity-based licensing on Exalytics (Trusted Partitions) “Capacity-based pricing” for the BIFS, Endeca, Essbase and Times Ten for Exalytics software is now available for Exalytics systems. This is delivered using “Oracle VM” (OVM).  We still ship a full Exalytics machine to all customers, but they may choose to only use and license a subset of the processors installed in the machine.   Customers can license Exalytics software in units of 5 “processors”: 5, 10, 15 or the full capacity 20.   As the customer’s implementation and workload increases, it is a simple matter to license additional processors and, using OVM, make them available to the BI or EPM application.     I'm getting the following error when I access my webservice localhost/MyService/MyService.svc The SSL settings for the service 'SslRequireCert' does not match those of the IIS 'Ssl, SslNegotiateCert'. This week, Oracle and ARM announced further expanding their collaboration on a number of fronts, from additional hardware platforms, porting layers, and optimized communication protocols, to 64-bit ARMv8 support, and IoT architectures.
