  • Tools for viewing logs of unlimited size

    - by jkff
It's no secret that application logs can go well beyond the limits of naive log viewers, and the desired viewer functionality (say, filtering the log based on a condition, or highlighting particular message types, or splitting it into sublogs based on a field value, or merging several logs based on a time axis, or bookmarking etc.) is beyond the abilities of large-file text viewers. I wonder: Whether decent specialized applications exist (I haven't found any) What functionality might one expect from such an application? (I'm asking because my student is writing such an application, and the functionality above has already been implemented to a certain extent of usability)

  • Is there a faster way to draw text?

    - by mystify
Shark complains about a big performance hit with this line, which takes like 80% of CPU time. I have a counter that is updated very frequently and performance seriously sucks. It's an custom UILabel subclass with -drawRect: implemented. Every time the counter value changes, this is used to draw the new text: [self.text drawInRect:textRect withFont:correctedFont lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:self.textAlignment]; When I comment this line out, performance rocks. Its smooth and fast. So Shark isn't wrong about this. But what could I do to improve this? Maybe go a level deeper? Does that make any sense? Probably drawing text is really so incredible heavy...?

  • Large strings: Text files or SQL DB?

    - by Tommo
I am coding a forum system using PHP. I am currently storing a threads ID, title, author, views and other attributes in an SQL database and then storing the thread body (the HTML and BBcode) in text files inside a folder named after the thread ID. In practise it's really simple to grab the database values then just grab the thread body from the text file, but I was wondering if this is the 'proper way'? I have personally no problems doing this but if it turns out it is massively inefficient and I should instead store both the thread body HTML and BBcode in the database instead then I will change. However, to me it seems wrong to store such a (very possibly) huge string of multi-line text along with lots of different characters in a database - I was taught that databases are more for short field 'values' rather than website content. I would just like a definitive answer to this because it's been bugging me for ages as to wherever I’ve been doing it properly. Does anyone know how popular forum systems store threads?

  • Javascript Autocomplete Text

    - by WPS
Hi All, I need to implement an autocomplete text field using JavaScript and JSF. When the user types some character in a text field, I need to make an AJAX request and get the values based on the values entered. I've an input text field, on "keyup" I'm triggering a function which submits the value to the server side. var timeoutid = 0; function intitiateTypeAhead(){ clearTimeout(timeoutid); if (document.getElementById("inputText").value.length >= 2) { timeoutid = setTimeout('clickButton', 500); } return false; } function clickButton(){ //submits the value to the server } <h:inputText id="inputText" onkeyup="intitiateTypeAhead()"></h:inputText> This works properly, but certain times the request is made for each character entered by the user. I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with the implementation. Can someone please help me to fix this?

  • jQuery UI draggable and text selection

    - by LeftyX
I am using jQuery 1.8.3 and jQuery UI 1.9.2. My web application has got some draggable elements and I would like to allow the user to select some text in the contained elements. I've seen there are some other questions on this topic. Another path I am following is use the right-click of the mouse and use some text-selection plug-in I have found. Still I can't make it work. It seems that draggable/sortable elements don't allow text selection or can intercept mouse (clicks) events. Any ideas? Regards.

  • full-text property change on column

    - by matt99
Hello, i'm trying to modify a property of a column (in sql server 2008 r2) which is of xml data type. I want set (Is full-text indexed) to yes, but after I do this and try to save changes, i get an error: 'Abc' table - Unable to modify table. Column: B is not full-text searchable. Column B is not the column I'm modyfing, but it's content is based on the modified xml column (it takes a value from one element in xml). Weird thing is that column B is full-text indexed (in table designer). Any ideas why i cannot apply changes to the xml column?

  • Images won't load if they are of high size

    - by Fahim Parkar
I have created web-application using JSF 2.0 and mysql. I am storing images in DB using MEDIUMBLOB. When I try to load image, I am able to see those images. However if the image size is big (1 MB or more), I can see half or 3/4th image on the browser. Any idea how to overcome this issue? Do I need to set any variable in JSF or MySQL? I know I should have saved the images over disk instead of DB, however this was client requirement. Client wanted to backup data and provide it to someone else and client don't want to backup DB and images also. Edit 1 Do I need to set any variables on mysql like query_cache. Edit 2 When I download same image and put below code it works perfectly. <h:graphicImage value="images/myImage4.png" width="50%" /> Edit 3 code is as below. <h:graphicImage value="DisplayImage?mainID=drawing" /> DisplayImage.java String imgLen = rs1.getString(1); int len = imgLen.length(); byte[] rb = new byte[len]; InputStream readImg = rs1.getBinaryStream(1); InputStream inputStream = readImg; int index = readImg.read(rb, 0, len); response.reset(); response.setHeader("Content-Length", String.valueOf(len)); response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "inline;filename=/file.png"); response.setContentType("image/png"); response.getOutputStream().write(rb, 0, len); response.getOutputStream().flush(); When I print len I get value as len=1548432

  • dynamic text in <h1> tag

    - by Ami
what would be the impact on SEO of changing the text of the <h1> dynamically on the server side each time the web page loads? I'm not talking about changing the whole text, just part of it, for example if the header contains some fixed text (with keywords of course), and also contains the current date or time/the current number of logged on users/the count of items current in stock/whatever. how would that affect my ranking? is it bad? doesn't make a difference? thanks.

  • Efficiently get the size of a parameter pack up to a certain index

    - by NmdMystery
    I want to be able to determine the number of bytes that are in a subset of a parameter pack from 0 to a given index. Right now I'm using a non-constexpr way of doing this. Below is my code: template <size_t index, typename... args> struct pack_size_index; template <size_t index, typename type_t, typename... args> struct pack_size_index <index, type_t, args...> { static const size_t index_v = index; static const size_t value(void) { if (index_v > 0) { return sizeof(type_t) + pack_size_index<index - 1, args...>::value(); } return 0; } }; template <size_t index> struct pack_size_index <index> { static const size_t index_v = index; static const size_t value(void) { return 0; } }; Usage: //output: 5 (equal to 1 + 4) std::cout << pack_size_index<2, bool, float, int, double>::value() << std::endl; //output: 20 (equal to 8 + 8 + 4) std::cout << pack_size_index<3, double, double, float, int>::value() << std::endl; This gets the job done, but this uses runtime comparison and the resulting executable increases in size rapidly whenever this is used. What's a less expensive way of doing this?

  • Increase content size of UIWebView using Javascript

    - by Sam
Hi folks, I have a translucent toolbar over the bottom of my UIWebView. The trouble is, if there is a link at the bottom of the page, I can't press it because the webview will always bounce back down to the bottom. I don't want to shrink the webview and use a solid colour toolbar, and UIWebViews interface doesn't open much up. What I would like to do, ideally, is to actually increase the size of the web page by one toolbar height, so that I can scroll that extra bit and have all the content above the toolbar, but when scrolling down I will be able to see the page content through the toolbar. I could use the stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString: function of UIWebView. I'm very rusty on JavaScript- is it possible for me to do this? Increase the window height or something? I tried: [webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"window.resizeBy(0,%d);", TOOLBAR_HEIGHT] ]; but it didn't do anything. Any pointers welcome. Thanks.

  • Adding anchors to h2 in text using python and regexp

    - by Oli
I'm trying to add anchors to all h2's in my html, using python. This code will add those anchors, but I need to fill the name of the anchors too. Any idea if the name can be the number of the match in the loop or a slugified version of the text between the h2 tags? Here's the code so far: regex = '(?P<name><h2>.*?</h2>)' text = re.sub(regex, "<a name=''/>"+r"\g<name>", text)

  • Swing: Programmatically select a text

    - by HH
Hey everyone, I have a very simple Swing GUI with just a JTetxtArea. I am trying to programmatically select a part of text using: textArea.select(startSelection, endSelection); This work. However as soon as I add some other components to the GUI I do not see selection anymore frame.getContentPane().add(button); frame.getContentPane().add(textArea); textArea.select(startSelection, endSelection); I suspect that during layouting the gui, some event causes the text to be deselected. Am I right? And could anybody suggest a solution? My goal is to have a program which displays a text, and allows the user to input start and end selection position, and a selection appears between these two position. Thank you.

  • Pulling international street addresses / phone numbers from free-form text

    - by spitzanator
Hey, folks. I'm looking for some regular expressions to help grab street addresses and phone numbers from free-form text (a la Gmail). Given some text: "John, I went to the store today, and it was awesome! Did you hear that they moved to 500 Green St.? ... Give me a call at +14252425424 when you get a chance." I'd like to be able to pull out: 500 Green St. (recognized as a street address) +14252425424 (recognized as a phone number) What makes this problem easier is that I don't care about parsing text that gets pulled out. That is, I don't care that Green is the name of the road or that 425 is the area code. I just want to grab strings that "look like" addresses or telephone numbers. Unfortunately, this needs to work internationally, as best as possible. Anyone have any leads? Thanks!

  • Sending Images over Sockets in C

    - by Takkun
    I'm trying to send an image file through a TCP socket in C, but the image isn't being reassembled correctly on the server side. I was wondering if anyone can point out the mistake? I know that the server is receiving the correct file size and it constructs a file of that size, but it isn't an image file. Client //Get Picture Size printf("Getting Picture Size\n"); FILE *picture; picture = fopen(argv[1], "r"); int size; fseek(picture, 0, SEEK_END); size = ftell(picture); //Send Picture Size printf("Sending Picture Size\n"); write(sock, &size, sizeof(size)); //Send Picture as Byte Array printf("Sending Picture as Byte Array\n"); char send_buffer[size]; while(!feof(picture)) { fread(send_buffer, 1, sizeof(send_buffer), picture); write(sock, send_buffer, sizeof(send_buffer)); bzero(send_buffer, sizeof(send_buffer)); } Server //Read Picture Size printf("Reading Picture Size\n"); int size; read(new_sock, &size, sizeof(1)); //Read Picture Byte Array printf("Reading Picture Byte Array\n"); char p_array[size]; read(new_sock, p_array, size); //Convert it Back into Picture printf("Converting Byte Array to Picture\n"); FILE *image; image = fopen("c1.png", "w"); fwrite(p_array, 1, sizeof(p_array), image); fclose(image);

  • Declaring arrays in c language without initial size

  • Match Phrases (in array) in text string

    - by Tim Hanssen
I'm using the Twitter API streaming to collect thousand of tweets every minute. They need to be matched to a list of keywords (can contain spaces). This is my current method: $text = preg_replace( '/[^a-z0-9]+/i', ' ', strtolower( $data['text'] ) ); $breakout = explode( " ", $text ); $result = array_intersect( $this->_currentTracks, $breakout ); I chop the tweet into words, and the matches them against my current keywords. This works well for all the keywords without a space ofc. If I wanted to find for example "Den Haag", It won't show up, because the string is exploded into words (based on the spaces). Any ideas about how I can do this in a quick way? Kind regards, Tim

  • XSLT: add node inner text.

    - by nabo
This is a slightly version of other question posted here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2888880/xslt-change-node-inner-text Imagine i use XSLT to transform the document: <a> <b/> <c/> </a> into this: <a> <b/> <c/> Hello world </a> In this case i can't use neither the <xsl:strip-space elements="*"/> element or the [normalize-space() != ''] predicate since there is no text in the place where i need to put new text. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • selecting all text within a div on a single left click with javascript

    - by tstyle
I have a simple non-clickable link within a div that looks like this: It's meant to be a sharable link that the user can copy paste into other things. For usability purposes, I want a single left click anywhere within the div to select the entire link: I don't know much about, javascript/web programming, so I've tried the following: <div id="share_link" onClick="select_all('share_link')"><%= request.url %></div> and this javascript <script type="text/javascript"> function select_all(id) { document.getElementById(id).focus(); } </script> This doesn't work. I'd like to know what's the simplest thing I should do to achieve what I want. I thought about changing the div to a text input or the text within to be a link, but ideally the content within should be read-only, non-editable, and non-clickable

  • [cli/linux] get plain text from raw emails (not attachments extraction)

    - by etuardu
Hi, having a raw email as input (i.e. the text between "DATA" and "." sent by a smtp client) I need to extract the mail content (which I know is always text only) as plain text. This means decoding transfer encoding (if any: could be base64 or quoted-printable), merging mutiparts (if any), and stripping headers. I tried various tools that would do that: mewdecode, uudecode, uudeview... I only managed to get this last one to work, but it won't output anything if the mail is not MIME encoded and it stores its output in an unpredictable (nor forceable) filename, so it's hard to use it in a not-interactive shell script. Since this is a pretty common job (every mail client have to do that), it's weird it's so complicated. Do you have some hints? (Actually, forcing uudeview to output in a certain file would be good enough). Thank you!

  • C code Error: free(): invalid next size (fast):

    - by user1436057
I got an error from my code, but I'm not sure where to fix it. Here's the explanation of what my code does: I'm writing some code that will read an input file and store each line as an object (char type) in an array. The first line of the input file is a number. This number tells me how many lines that I should read and store in the array. Here's my code: int main(int argc, char *argv[]){ FILE *fp; char **path; int num, i; ... /*after reading the first line and store the number value in num*/ path = malloc(num *sizeof(char)); i=0; while (!feof(fp)) { char buffer[500]; int length = 0; for (ch = fgetc(fp); ch != EOF && ch != '\n'; ch = fgetc(fp)) { buffer[length++] = ch; } if(ch == '\n' && ch!= EOF){ buffer[length] = '\0'; path[i] = malloc(strlen(buffer)+1); strcpy(path[i], buffer); i++; } } ... free(path); } After running the code, I get this *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid next size (fast): I have searched around and know this is malloc/free error, but I don't exactly know to fix it. Any help would be great. Thanks!
