Hi, I have an application that starts several threads using
gobject.timeout_add(delay, function)
Now in my function I want to test and set on some variable, e.g.
def function(self):
if flag == True:
flag = False
doSomething()
Now to make this threadsafe, I would have to lock the function using some mutex lock.
Is this possible with Gtk? Or can I use the Python Lock objects from threading?
Im using python to access a MySQL database and im getting a unknown column in field due to quotes not being around the variable.
code below:
cur = x.cnx.cursor()
cur.execute('insert into tempPDBcode (PDBcode) values (%s);' % (s))
rows = cur.fetchall()
How do i manually insert double or single quotes around the value of s?
I've trying using str() and manually concatenating quotes around s but it still doesn't work.
The sql statement works fine iv double and triple check my sql query.
I want to break a Python string into its characters.
sequenceOfAlphabets = list( string.uppercase )
works.
However, why does not
sequenceOfAlphabets = re.split( '.', string.uppercase )
work?
All I get are empty, albeit expected count of elements
Hi all
I am a newbie to the python. Can I unhash, or rather how can I unhash a value. I am using std hash() function. What I would like to do is to first hash a value send it somewhere and then unhash it as such:
#process X
hashedVal = hash(someVal)
#send n receive in process Y
someVal = unhash(hashedVal)
#for example print it
print someVal
Thx in advance
I have a long-running python server and would like to be able to upgrade a service without restarting the server. What's the best way do do this?
if foo.py has changed:
unimport foo <-- how do I do this?
import foo
myfoo=foo.Foo()
I'm new in python and I'm having some issues doing a simple thing.
I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this:
list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw']
As you see each element of this array contains some words. These words is both lowercase and uppercase.
How I can delete from this array each lowercase words?
For example I'd like to have as result this list:
list = [ 'NICE' , 'FLOWER' , 'GOOD' , 'YELLOW']
Hi,
How can i print only certain words from a string in python ?
lets say i want to print only the 3rd word (which is a number) and the 10th one
while the text length may be different each time
mystring = "You have 15 new messages and the size is 32000"
thanks.
Hi,
I'm writing a parser in Python. I've converted an input string into a list of tokens, such as:
['(', '2', '.', 'x', '.', '(', '3', '-', '1', ')', '+', '4', ')', '/', '3', '.', 'x', '^', '2']
I want to be able to split the list into multiple lists, like the str.split('+') function. But there doesn't seem to be a way to do my_list.split('+'). Any ideas?
Thanks!
In python if a string contains the following,
print valid_str
The output of this is
Record is positive in tone:
It emphasizes "what a child can do and his or her achievements, as opposed to what he or she cannot do," explains the It is useful for progress and achievements during office conferences
How to search for the pattern It is useful in the above string and if not found return something.
Thanks..

How can I split a line in Python at a non-printing ascii character (such as the long minus sign hex 0x97 , Octal 227)?
I won't need the character itself. The information after it will be saved as a variable.
Python is filled with little neat shortcuts.
For example:
self.data = map(lambda x: list(x), data)
and (although not so pretty)
tuple(t[0] for t in self.result if t[0] != 'mysql' and t[0] != 'information_schema')
among countless others.
In the irc channel, they said "too many to know them all".
I think we should list some here, as i love using these shortcuts to shorten & refctor my code. I'm sure this would benefit many.
Good day chaps.
I'm interested in learning how to invert (make a negative of) an image using the python image libary module.
I cannot however, use the ImageOps function 'invert.' I need another solution, using the RGB values. I've searched and tried to no avail. Thanks for any help :)
I am looking to setup a automated screen scraper that will run on Google app engine using python. I want it to scrape the site and put the specified results into a Entity in app engine. I am looking for some directions on what to use. I have seen beautifulsoup but wonder if people could recommend anything else that could run on Google App engine.
I am trying to get python to make noise when certain things happen. Preferably, i would like to play music of some kind, however some kind of distinctive beeping would be sufficient, like an electronic timer going off. I have thus far only been able to make the system speaker chime using pywin32's Beep, however this simply does not have the volume for my application.
Any ideas on how I can do this?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008's built in testing framework in my Visual C++ project. I'm adding a new Test Project, then a new Unit Test. However, I can't use any of the functions provided by Assert. Assert shows up in the Intellisense, but I can't do anything with it. I've done unit tests fine in Visual C#. Am I forgetting to do anything?
EDIT:
There isn't much code because everything I'm doing is auto-generated by Visual Studio 2008. Here are the steps I'm doing:
File - New Project - Visual C++ - General - Empty Project
Right click solution in Solution Explorer - Add - New Project...
Visual C++ - Test - Test Project
Open UnitTest1.cpp (auto-generated)
Go to TestMethod1()
From here, when I try to use the Assert class (like Assert.AreEqual), I can't do it. If I do the same in a Visual C# project, it works fine.
I am pretty new to python and I discovered by myself that I can create a list of function and call with a for loop.
example:
def a(args):
print "A"
def b(args):
print "B"
def c(args):
print "C " + str(args)
functions = [a,b,c]
for i in functions:
i(1)
So, my question is: is there any good practice or elegant way to use list of functions and what is a good use of all this? (do have a particular name the "list of functions"?)
thank you
Hi folks,
I'm serving a Django app behind IIS 6. I'm wondering if I can restart IIS 6 within Python/Django and what one of the best ways to do would be.
Help would be great!
class A:
def __init__(self):
print "world"
class B(A):
def __init__(self):
print "hello"
B()
hello
In all other languages I've worked with the super constructor is invoked implicitly. How does one invoke it in Python? I would expect super(self) but this doesn't work
Hi there,
I feel like this is quite delicate,
I have various folders whith projects I would like to backup into a zip/tar file, but would like to avoid backing up files such as pyc files and temporary files.
I also have a Postgres db I need to backup.
Any tips for running this operation as a python script?
Also, would there be anyway to stop the process from hogging resources in the process?
Help would be very much appreciated.
I have downloaded and install a python library, via setup.py , python2.5 setup.py install ...

What is the shortest / most elegant way to implement the following Scala code with an abstract attribute in Python?
abstract class Controller {
val path: String
}
A subclass of Controller is enforced to define "path" by the Scala compiler. A subclass would look like this:
class MyController extends Controller {
override val path = "/home"
}
