  • Gaming Community CMS, with forum integration [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Which Content Management System (CMS) should I use? I've had a simple website that I coded myself for a while now, the site is a gaming community. It's very forum and news driven. It was a HORRIBLE idea to take on coding this thing myself. Although we've used it for about a year now, we're just getting too big, and I need to streamline our work. I need writers to post news, etc. I've been doing it through code. ( A year ago I thought it would be a cool idea ) Anyway, I've been messing with just about every CMS out there, and I'm struggling to get something that I really like. The main issue I'm facing, is a good news system, and good forum integration. I'm sort of picky when it comes to looks, its a curse. Reading on here, I see a lot of people saying Drupal is the best for the 3 things I need, community interaction, and forums. I think the main issue that I ran into with drupal, was ease of use, and themes. I am not a web designer, and I need a good theme. For an idea of what I'm looking for, go check out http://www.clgaming.net, they have forums integrated, a nice news area on home page/news section, and nice user accounts. It looks very professional, and I doubt I'll get close to that with a free theme, but their functionality is exactly what I need. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Domain model integration using JSON capable DTOs

    I'm a bit confused about architectural choices for the java/web-applications world. The background is I have a system with certain hardware components (that introduce system immanent active behavior) and a configuration database for system meta and HW-components configuration data (these are even usually self contained, since the HW-components persist configuration data anyway). For realization of the configuration/status data exchange protocol with the HW-components we have chosen the Google Protobuf format, which works well for the directly wired communication with these components. Now we want to develop an abstract model (domain model) for those HW-components and I have the feeling that a plain Java class model would fit best for this (c++ implementation seems to have too much implementation/integration overhead with viable language-bridge interfaces). Google Protobuf message definitions could still serve well to describe DTO objects used to interact with a domain model API. But integrating Google Protobuf messages client side for e.g. data binding in the current view doesn't seem to be a good choice. I'm thinking about some extra serialization features, e.g. for JSON based data exchange with the views/controllers. Most lightweight solutions seem to involve a python based presentation layer using JSON based data transfer (I'm at least not sure to be fully informed about this). Is there some lightweight (applicable for a limited ARM Linux platform) framework available, supporting such architecture to realize a web-application?

  • GWTAI applet integration in GWT problem

    Hi everybody. I'm working with gwtai to integrate a java applet into my gwt - project. Basic communication from my main application to the applet (such as invoking simple methods that return int or boolean values) works. But the main reason why I need to integrate this applet is, that I need it to connect to another server and receive a answer and pass it to my gwt-application. So there's one basic method in the applet: public String SendAndReceive(String host, int sendPort, int receivePort, String query) that connects to the server, receives an answer and returns this answer as a string. When I now try to invoke this method like this: applet.SendAndReceive("0.0.0.0", 9099, 2000, "show streams;"); I constantly run into following error (full error message at the end): com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (String): Error calling method on NPObject! [plugin exception: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission * read,write)] I couldn't find a solution (for gwtai is a quite uncommon topic), what I found out (and what the Exception let's one assume) is, that there's a security problem - maybe because I'm connecting to another server. I also read something about browser's Single Origin Policy, what would point in the same direction...up to now I have never worked with java applets. So if someone has a solution or a hint I would be very thankful. If more code is helpful I can give.   • Django facebook integration error

    I'm trying to integrate facebook into my application so that users can use their FB login to login to my site. I've got everything up and running and there are no issues when I run my site using the command line python manage.py runserver But this same code refuses to run when I try and run it through Apache.   • Can't work with server after modifying /lib/libc.so.6

    I have a CentOS server, VPS. After running this command I can't work with server and get the same error in all actions (SSH, Login, ls and ...) The command: ln -s /lib/libc.so.1 /lib/libc.so.6 -f And the error is: /sbin/shutdown: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I have VNC to server but because I can't login to server, that's unusable.   • How can I make a WPF TreeView data binding lazy and asynchronous?

    I am learning how to use data binding in WPF for a TreeView. I am procedurally creating the Binding object, setting Source, Path, and Converter properties to point to my own classes. I can even go as far as setting IsAsync and I can see the GUI update asynchronously when I explore the tree. So far so good! My problem is that WPF eagerly evaluates parts of the tree prior to them being expanded in the GUI. If left long enough this would result in the entire tree being evaluated (well actually in this example my tree is infinite, but you get the idea). I would like the tree only be evaluated on demand as the user expands the nodes. Is this possible using the existing asynchronous data binding stuff in the WPF? As an aside I have not figured out how ObjectDataProvider relates to this task.   • Why no more macro languages?

    In this answer to a previous question of mine about scripting languages suitability as shells, DigitalRoss identifies the difference between the macro languages and the "parsed typed" languages in terms of string treatment as the main reason that scripting languages are not suitable for shell purposes. Macro languages include nroff and m4 for example. What are the design decisions (or compromises) needed to create a macro programming language? And why are most of the mainstream languages parsed rather than macro? This very similar question (and the accepted answer) covers fairly well why the parsed typed languages, take C for example, suffer from the use of macros. I believe my question here covers different grounds: Macro languages or those working on a textual level are not wholly failures. Arguably, they include bash, Tcl and other shell languages. And they work in a specific niche such as shells as explained in my links above. Even m4 had a fairly long time of success, and some of the web template languages can be regarded as macro languages. It is quite possible that macros and parsed typing do not go well together and that is why macros "break" common languages. In the answer to the linked question, a macro like #define TWO 1+1 would have been covered by the common rules of the language rather than conflicting with those of the host language. And issues like "macros are not typed" and "code doesn't compile" are not relevant in the context of a language designed as untyped and interpreted with little concern for efficiency. The question about the design decisions needed to create a macro language pertain to a hobby project which I am currently working on on designing a new shell. Taking the previous question in context would clarify the difference between adding macros to a parsed language and my objective. I hope the clarification shows that the question linked doesn't cover this question, which is two parts: If I want to create a macro language (for a shell or a web template, for example), what limitations and compromises (and guidelines, if exist) need to be done? (Probably answerable by a link or reference) Why have no macro languages succeed in becoming mainstream except in particular niches? What makes typed languages successful in large programming, while "stringly-typed" languages succeed in shells and one-liner like environments?

  • Installing MySQL on Ubuntu Natty with Shell Script

    I'm trying to install MySQL on Ubuntu Natty from a shell script. However, I keep running into one major issue: when I try to define the password outside of the shell script. Below is the code to my shell script (which I have saved in /etc/init.d/install_mysql: export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive echo mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server/root_password password $dbpass | debconf-set-selections echo mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server/root_password_again password $dbpass | debconf-set-selections apt-get -y install mysql-server So what I enter in the terminal is: dbpass="mysqlpass" chmod +x /etc/init.d/install_mysql /etc/init.d/install_mysql MySQL installs, but it installs without a password, so I can just do something like mysql -uroot to access mysql (which I don't want). The funny thing is if I put the password in the shell script as regular text, it works ok. So if I my install script is as follows, everything works (i.e. I must specify a password to access mysql): export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive echo mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server/root_password password mysqlpass | debconf-set-selections echo mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server/root_password_again password mysqlpass | debconf-set-selections apt-get -y install mysql-server Is there a way I can use a shell script variable to define my password in the shell script, instead of entering the password literally?! Thanks in advance. EDIT I've found the answer to this. The following is what I should have entered in the terminal: dbpass="mysqlpass" export dbpass chmod +x /etc/init.d/install_mysql /etc/init.d/install_mysql It works like a charm now.

    Having recently purchased Windows 7 Ultimate in order to gain access to the SUA subsystem, I have been struggling to get SUA's bash utility (/usr/local/bin/bash) working with EmacsW32. M-x shell normally invokes a shell process and pipes stdio through an Emacs buffer and this works well with Cygwin e.g. Cygwin is very slow compared to SUA however, so I am very keen to get this facility working with the EmacsW32 + SUA combo. Any tips, experience, solutions would be appreciated.

If necessary a temporary file could be used to hold the output, although I would like to avoid this. I have been able to use \immediate\write18 to invoke a bash command before, but this was only used to write to a temporary file. I'm looking into parsing environment variable $LC_ALL, but it isn't always set to a useful value, and its format seems to vary (can be <locale, or <locale.<code page, or <locale.<code page@<modifier etc...). Is there a better way? I'm essentially after a shell equivalent of what I'd get if I called nl_langinfo(CODESET) from C.

  • How to avoid visual artifacts when hosting WPF user controls within a WinForms MDI app?

    When hosting WPF user controls within a WinForms MDI app there is a drawing issue when you have multiple forms that overlap each other that causes very distinct visual artifacts. These artifacts are mostly visible after dragging one child form over another one that also hosts WPF content or by allowing the edges of the child form to be clipped by the main MDI parent when dragging it around. After the drag and drop of the child form is completed the artifacts stay around gernally but I've found that setting focus to a different application's window and then refocusing back on to my application window that it is redrawn and all is good again until the child forms are moved once again. Please see the image below which demonstrates the problem. Since many at Microsoft insist that the WinForms MDI is already a complete solution for MDI even when dealing with WPF I find it hard to believe any of them have ever actually tried creating a mostly WPF app that utilizes WinForms MDI otherwise it would be hard to recommend while keeping a straignt face. I'm hoping to either come up with proof that this solution truly is not acceptable or possibly find a way to overcome this and a few other specific issues.
