  • Link a programmatic instantiation of class x in class y to a view controller of class x

    - by Joel Derfner
I have classes Compose and Haiku, each connected to a view controller in IB. Haiku is instantiated in Compose as ghhaiku. Haiku has an array, self.arrayOfHaiku, with 117 members. But in Compose, self.ghhaiku.arrayOfHaiku has no members. I think the problem is that I haven't linked the instance of Haiku that has the 117-member array with the instance of Haiku created in Compose. But how do I do that? (I could of course be totally wrong and the problem could be something else, but that seems to make intuitive sense.) Any thoughts?

  • Lock web app only work for intranet

    - by justjoe
some week in the future i will have job to create php web app that will work as billing process. As the client and my team agree upon, the web app will only deploy in their internal server. This need arose some fundamental questions for myself. how do we lock the web app really really will work only in internal server and not in internet as it asked ? cause this need, the cost for the job have been cut into some degree. so it will be best if it only work as client describe it : it will be deploy in intranet an intranet only What is the pro and cons deploy php application only (with all of its apache server )in intranet ? What is the fundamental different between deploying php app in intranet environment and in internet ? is there anything to be consider ? I know we can put windows in to a flash-disk or pen-disk. i there any autorun apache/php server that work in the same fashion ?

  • Efficient storage in C#.net App

    - by Tommy
I'm looking for the fastest, least memory consuming, stand alone storage method available for large amounts of data for my C# app. My initial thoughts: Sql: no. not stand alone XML in flat file: no. takes too long to parse large amounts of data Other Options? Basically what i'm looking for, is a way that i can load with my applications load, keep all the data in my app, and when the data in my app changes just update the storage location.

  • How to call a method after asynchronous task is complete

    - by doctordoder
I have a class called WikiWebView which is a subclass of UIWebView which loads Wikipedia subjects and is designed to fetch all the links of the webpage, in order to create a sort of site map for the subject. My problem is that I can only create the links once the web page has loaded, but the loading isn't done right after [self loadRequest:requestObj] is called. - (void)loadSubject:(NSString *)subject { // load the actual webpage NSString *wiki = @"http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/"; NSString *fullURL = [wiki stringByAppendingString:subject]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:fullURL]; NSURLRequest *requestObj = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; [self loadRequest:requestObj]; // [self createLinks]; // need this to be called after the view has loaded } - (void)createLinks { NSString *javascript = @"var string = \"\";" "var arr = document.getElementsByClassName(\"mw-redirect\");" "for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; ++i)" "{" "var redirectLink = arr[i].href;" "string = string + redirectLink + \" \";" "}" "string;"; NSString *links = [self stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:javascript]; self.links = [links componentsSeparatedByString:@" "]; } I tried the normal delegation technique, which lead to this code being added: - (id)init { if (self = [super init]) { self.delegate = self; // weird } return self; } #pragma mark - UIWebViewDelegate - (void)webViewDidStartLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { ++_numProcesses; } - (void)webView:(UIWebView *)webView didFailLoadWithError:(NSError *)error { --_numProcesses; } - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { --_numProcesses; if (_numProcesses == 0) { [self createLinks]; } } However, the delegate methods are never called.. I've seen similar questions where the answers are to use blocks, but how would I do that in this case?

  • Developing iPhone app to Run on iPad - Auto Set 2x

    - by R.J.
Is there a way to programmatically set the iPad to run the iPhone app at 2x as it is launched (yet keep the iPhone app native). I understand I can create NIB files for each hardware platform, but for ease, I just would rather the app launch as if the user had tapped the 2x on the iPad. Thanks...R.J.

  • Sinatra/Rails: Persisting custom class instances during app lifetime

    - by knoopx
Can I assert rails/sinatra apps are initialized only once and all requests share the same app instance? or do new requests spawn new app instances? Is it possible to instance custom classes and persist them during app lifetime without using sessions, database storages or third party services? If so, what are the implications from a thread-safeness point of view? I'm trying to figure how to implement a web-based download manager and I'm currently evaluating ruby-based frameworks.

  • How do I add a folder/group to SCM (CVS) in Xcode?

    - by Brad
I have an iPhone project in Xcode which is checked into CVS via XCode's SCM support. I have created a new folder in this project, and created a group for it's files. However, the files in this group/folder are not in CVS, and I cannot figure out how to get them in there. The usual "Add to repository" under the "SCM" menu is always grayed-out when I try to select one of the files - I would assume this is because the folder is not in CVS. How do I add the folder/files to CVS?

  • How to avoid truncation of text with UITableViewCellStyleValue2

    - by Regan
I use this code to make my UITableViewCells cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleValue2 reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; If you're unfamiliar with UITableViewCellStyleValue2, the main text is shown, and then the detail text is shown after it, generally in a different color. However, when I do this, my main text is truncated, if it is longer than a short word. I want to force it to not truncate the main text and show the entire main text, and then the detail text after it. How can I do that?

  • How to upload a file with JQueryMobile for an iphone/ipad?

    - by JD
Hi, I have just started looking at JqueryMobile and want to know if the following is possible? I want to be able to select a file (similar to in html) and then show some sort of dialogue that allows me to browse to a "folder" and select the file. It would then be up to me to send some sort of AJAX command to upload it to the server (where I am using Asp.net MVC 2) Since I do not have access to an iPhone or iPad, I was told that I would only have access to the documents folder. This is some of the code inside my viewDidLoad method: self.logoLabel = [[FXLabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(14, 11, 280, 87)]; [logoLabel setFont:[UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:45]]; [logoLabel setTextColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [logoLabel setShadowColor:[UIColor blackColor]]; [logoLabel setShadowOffset:CGSizeMake(0, 2)]; [logoLabel setTextAlignment:UITextAlignmentCenter]; [logoLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]]; [logoLabel setText:@"Attorney Biz"]; [logoLabel setGradientStartColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:163.0/255 green:203.0/255 blue:222.0/255 alpha:1.0]]; [logoLabel setGradientEndColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; Unfortnuately, I get an error "No visible @interface for 'UILabel' declares the selector 'setGradientStartColor'" at the second-to-last line and "No visible @interface for 'UILabel' declares the selector 'setGradientEndColor'" Can somebody explain how to remove these errors?

  • Search pattern in string using regex in obj-c

    - by manileo86
I'm working on a string pattern match algorithm. I use NSRegularExpression for finding the matches. For ex: I've to find all words starting with '#' in a string.. Currently I use the following regex function: static NSRegularExpression *_searchTagRegularExpression; static inline NSRegularExpression * SearchTagRegularExpression() { if (!_searchTagRegularExpression) { _searchTagRegularExpression = [[NSRegularExpression alloc] initWithPattern:@"(?<!\\w)#([\\w\\._-]+)? options:NSRegularExpressionCaseInsensitive error:nil]; } return _searchTagRegularExpression; } and I use it as below: NSRegularExpression *regexp = SearchTagRegularExpression(); [regexp enumerateMatchesInString:searchString options:0 range:stringRange usingBlock:^(NSTextCheckingResult *result, NSMatchingFlags flags, BOOL *stop) { // comes here for every match with range }]; This works properly. But i just want to know if this is the best way. suggest if there's any better alternative...

  • How to link more than one object at a time in Xcode 4.2?

    - by Beppe
I'm probably missing the basics here... Is there a way to link more than one object to a method at a time using Interface Builder in Xcode 4.2? I set tons of UIButtons in my UIView. All of them call just one method (let's say - (IBAction)buttonPushed:(UIButton *)aButton) that should do something different depending on the sender. I can't figure out a way to link them all with my method at a time. Any advice will be very appreciated... N.B. I'm using Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard, without storyboard.

  • Accessing Amazon E-Commerce Services through Cocoa Touch

Has anyone successfully accessed AWS (Amazon E-Commerce Services) through Cocoa Touch? I've been digging around, and haven't seen the issue addressed directly. I've created an AWS account, and have seen some sample code for accessing web services through Cocoa, but I'm not quite sure how to tie it all together. If anyone has any sample code, I'd love to see it. I'm just trying to get my head around the concepts.

  • Using NSArray for C-type int comparisons

    - by Andrew Barinov
I would like to iterate through an NSArray of ints and compare each one to a specific int. All ints are C type ints. The code I am using is as follows: -(int)ladderCalc: (NSArray*)amounts: (int)amount { int result; for (NSUInteger i=0; i< [amounts count]; i++) { if (amount < [amounts objectAtIndex:i]); { // do something } // do something } } However I get an error when comparing the int amount to the result of [amounts objectAtIndex:i] because you cannot compare id to int. Why is the id involved in this case? Shouldn't objectAtIndex just return the object at the index specified? Is it possible to cast the object returned to an C int and then do the comparison? Or should I just dispense with NSArray and do this type of thing in C?

  • Attach GestureRecogniser to multiple imageviews

    - by AppleDeveloper
    Something strange I encountered today while attaching same gesture recogniser to multiple image views. It gets attached to only the last one, in other words, it can be attached to only one view! I had to create multiple gesture recognisers to meet my requirements. Following is what I have done. Am I doing correct? Is that's the only way to attach recognisers to the multiple imageviews? Please note that I don't want to use UITableView or UIVIew and put all imageviews in it and attach gesture recogniser to only UITableView or UIVIew. I have all image scattered and I have to detect which image is being dragged. Thanks. [imgView1 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView1 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [imgView2 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView2 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [imgView3 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView3 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [imgView4 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView4 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [imgView5 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView5 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [imgView6 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imgView6 setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; //Attach gesture recognizer to each imagviews gestureRecognizer1 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer1.delegate = self; gestureRecognizer2 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer2.delegate = self; gestureRecognizer3 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer3.delegate = self; gestureRecognizer4 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer4.delegate = self; gestureRecognizer5 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer5.delegate = self; gestureRecognizer6 = [[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandler:)]; gestureRecognizer6.delegate = self; [imgView1 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer1]; [imgView2 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer2]; [imgView3 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer3]; [imgView4 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer4]; [imgView5 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer5]; [imgView6 addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer6];

  • Creating UIButton using helper method

    - by ddawber
I have a subclass of UITableView and in it I want to generate number of labels that share the same properties (font, textColor, backgroundColor, etc.). I decided the easiest way to achieve this would be to create a helper method which creates the label with some common properties set: - (UILabel *)defaultLabelWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; label.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:14]; label.textColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:128.0/255.0 alpha:1.0]; label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; return label; } I use the method like this: UILabel *someLabel = [self defaultLabelWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,100,100)]; [self addSubview:someLabel]; [someLabel release]; My concern here is that when creating the label in the method it is retained, but when I then assign it to someLabel, it is retained again and I have no way of releasing the memory when created in the method. What would be best the best approach here? I fee like I have two options: Create a subclass of UILabel for the default label type. Create an NSMutableArray called defaultLabels and store the labels in this: - (UILabel *)defaultLabelWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; label.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:14]; label.textColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:128.0/255.0 alpha:1.0]; label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [defaultLabels addObject:label]; [labels release]; //I can release here return [defaultLabels lastObject]; //I can release defaultLabels when done } I appreciate your thoughts. Cheers.

  • How to hadle a tags inside another tags in NSXMLParser

    - by SimpleMan
I have a file: <xml> <component>something <system>somethingDeeper <value>somethingDeepest</value> </system> </component> <component>somethinfDifferent <value>somethingDifferentDeeper</value> </component> <value>somethingNew</value> </xml> So i want to distinguish what is inside another tag (ex. <system>) what is not. How to do this with NSXMLParser ? I currently use BOOL ivar's but this is a lot of tags and this is not as elegant as i want it to be. I know that NSXMLParser is a SAX parser and i understand that. In above example I will be enter to didEndElement method three times with: elementName equal value Is there a more elegant way to distinguish what entry was from <component> tag above what not?

  • Autorelease and properties

    - by ganuke
I have few questions to ask about the following class #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface SomeObject { NSString *title; } @property (retain) NSString *title; @end implementation SomeObject @synthesize title; -(id)init { if (self=[super init]) { self.title=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"allyouneed"]; } return self; } -(void)testMethod{ self.title=[[NSString alloc] init] ; } -(void)dealloc { self.title=nil; [super dealloc]; } In the .h file do we need to declare the title and sub when we add the property. is it not enough to add the @property (retain) NSString *title; line. 2.Do i need to autorelease both assignment to title in the init and testMethod. if So why? Can some one explain these things to me.

  • UIButton performance in UITableViewCell vs UIView

    - by marcel salathe
I'd like to add a UIButton to a custom UITableViewCell (programmatically). This is easy to do, but I'm finding that the "performance" of the button in the cell is slow - that is, when I touch the button, there is quite a bit of delay until the button visually goes into the highlighted state. The same type of button on a regular UIView is very responsive in comparison. In order to isolate the problem, I've created two views - one is a simple UIView, the other is a UITableView with only one UITableViewCell. I've added buttons to both views (the UIView and the UITableViewCell), and the performance difference is quite striking. I've searched the web and read the Apple docs but haven't really found the cause of the problem. My guess is that it somehow has to do with the responder chain, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I must be doing something wrong, and I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. Demo code: ViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface ViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> @property UITableView* myTableView; @property UIView* myView; ViewController.m #import "ViewController.h" #import "CustomCell.h" @implementation ViewController @synthesize myTableView, myView; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { [self initMyView]; [self initMyTableView]; } return self; } - (void) initMyView { UIView* newView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.width,100)]; self.myView = newView; // button on regularView UIButton* myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [myButton addTarget:self action:@selector(pressedMyButton) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [myButton setTitle:@"I'm fast" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [myButton setFrame:CGRectMake(20.0, 10.0, 160.0, 30.0)]; [[self myView] addSubview:myButton]; } - (void) initMyTableView { UITableView *newTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,100,[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.width,[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.height-100) style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; self.myTableView = newTableView; self.myTableView.delegate = self; self.myTableView.dataSource = self; } -(void) pressedMyButton { NSLog(@"pressedMyButton"); } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [[self view] addSubview:self.myView]; [[self view] addSubview:self.myTableView]; } - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 1; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { CustomCell *customCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"CustomCell"]; if (customCell == nil) { customCell = [[CustomCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:@"CustomCell"]; } return customCell; } @end CustomCell.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface CustomCell : UITableViewCell @property (retain, nonatomic) UIButton* cellButton; @end CustomCell.m #import "CustomCell.h" @implementation CustomCell @synthesize cellButton; - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyle)style reuseIdentifier:(NSString *)reuseIdentifier { self = [super initWithStyle:style reuseIdentifier:reuseIdentifier]; if (self) { // button within cell cellButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [cellButton addTarget:self action:@selector(pressedCellButton) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [cellButton setTitle:@"I'm sluggish" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [cellButton setFrame:CGRectMake(20.0, 10.0, 160.0, 30.0)]; [self addSubview:cellButton]; } return self; } - (void) pressedCellButton { NSLog(@"pressedCellButton"); } @end

  • Users adding views

    - by adamprocter
I have created a main page (myAppViewController) and a add page rect button I have also created a page template (TemplateAViewController) all set up in Interface builder. I would like users to be able to add as many templates themselves and then page through them. I am not sure where to start. I can create views programmatic like so -(IBAction)createnewpage : (id) sender { myAppViewController *viewcontroller = [[myAppViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateAViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [[self view] addSubview:viewcontroller.view]; } I then want to be able to navigate through these views- I guess I need to create a navigation controller to do this ?
