• Debugging Windows

  After installing VS 2008 on a new PC I noticed that the Autos and Locals windows did not show up when debugging. So I went to the logical place to find them View/Other Windows. No luck they were not there. I use VS every day but like a lot of folks I only need to install it every few years, usually with a new PC. So I forgot where they were. Finding them is easy, just start debugging a project and go to Debug/Windows. The Autos and Locals windows along with the others will be there. • Visual Studio 2010 Find and Replace With Regular Expressions

  Here is a quick notes about using regular expressions in the VS2010 Find Replace dialog.  1.  To create a backreference, use curly braces (“{“ and “}” ) instead of regular parentheses. 2.  To use the captured backreference, use \1\2 etc, where \1 is the first captured value, \2 is the second captured value, etc. Example: I want to find*: info.setFieldValue(param1, param2); and replace it with: SetFieldValue(info, param1, param2); To do this, I can use the following find/replace values: Find what: {[a-zA-Z0-9]+}.setFieldValue\({[a-zA-Z0-9., ]+}\); Replace with: SetFieldValue(\1, \2); Use Regular Expressions is checked, of course. *If you’re wondering why I’d want to do this – because I don’t have control over the setFieldValue function – its in a third party library that doesn’t behave in a very friendly manner. I am looking for the ability to do the above with a sermon mp3 and also a video. At the moment we are doing it with multiple steps / people involved and I want to automate the process. • Content, MetaData and Taxonomy 2 Overview of the Data Layer

In DotNetNuke version 5.3, we introduced the concept of a centralized Content store, together with the ability to apply Taxonomies (categories) to the content. We have extended this in DNN 5.4 by completing the MetaData API as well as adding Folksonomy (user tags). • Using IE 9 as my primary browser

  With the release of Internet Explorer 9 RC the browser looks to be in a usable state.  So far, my experience has been positive. However, one area where I am having problems is when people are using the jQueryUI library.  Versions older than 1.8 cause IE 9.0 to be unable to drag and drop.  This is a real pain, especially at sites like Agile Zen, where dragging and dropping is a primary bit of functionality. Now that IE 9 is a release candidate, we’ll see how quickly these things improve.  I expect things to be rough, but so far, I’m really liking IE 9.  There’s more real estate than Chrome (it’s the tabs inline with the address bar) and its faster than Chrome 9.0 and FF 3.6.8 (as tested on my own machine). The biggest drawback so far is that because IE has been so badly behaved in the past, sites expect it to be badly behaved now, which is breaking things now. Technorati Tags: Internet Explorer

• How do I implement layers on a tile map?

  I have a game where, based upon the visible tiles in the viewport, I need to retrieve data of items in the visible tiles. I am planning to use Javascript to AJAX request in a batch based upon the visible tiles which contain image tags like Google Maps. The layer will be in SVG or canvas. The item information will be in JSON format. What is the best approach, to fetch the data? I currently have complex class I wrote in Javascript which determines the visible columns/rows and offsets relative to the visible area shown. Each item is also user contributed and will be rendered in canvas or SVG layer.

• Stacked Launcher Item Double Click Behaviour on Alt-tab

  Let's say that you have multiple firefox windows open. What you see happen is an additional arrow points to it's icon in the launcher. However, if you double click the icon, it displays all of the windows in a spread out fashion, similar to the behaviour from pushing Super + W, but only for that program group. Is it possible to make this window spreading behaviour occur with alt-tab? PS: No idea what tags I should use, or if the language (jargon) in the title or question is appropriate.

• Bummer | Visual Studio 2012 Error on Web Publish&ndash;July Update

  Always a bummer when you update a product and something stops working.  I am hoping it is an installation issue, but each time I go to run “Publish..” in my Web Application, the publish works, but Visual Studio 2012 crashes.  I just noticed this beginning after I ran the Visual Studio 2012 RC July Updates.
