  • Exception throws: encapsulate them or not?

    Hi there. Once I read an MSDN article that encouraged the following programming paradigm: public class MyClass { public void Method1() { NewCustomException(); } public void Method2() { NewCustomException(); } void NewCustomException() { throw new CustomException("Exception message"); } } Do you think this paradigm makes sense? Wouldn't it be enough to store the exception message in a static const field and then pass it to the exception's constructor, instead of encapsulating the whole exception throw?

    I downloaded the Core Plot example application, but when I compile it I saw a few errors. I then added the Core Plot SDK, but in this SDK there is no class named CPGraphHostingView. Therefore, I added the class manually from this link. However, I now see the following error: ERROR - "_OBJC_CLASS_$_CPGraphHostingView", referenced from: How can I work around this to get the sample application to compile?

  • More trivia than really important: Why no new() constraint on Activator.CreateInstance<T>() ?

    I think there are people who may be able to answer this, this is a question out of curiosity: The generic CreateInstance method from System.Activator, introduced in .NET v2 has no type constraints on the generic argument but does require a default constructor on the activated type, otherwise a MissingMethodException is thrown. To me it seems obvious that this method should have a type constraint like Activator.CreateInstance<T>() where T : new() { ... } Just an omission or some anecdote lurking here?

    Whenever I test my app.. it binds the data from Note class and displays it if it isn't a string. But for the string variables it wont bind. What am I doing wrong? If it was a named function I would simply refer it by name: foo.call('#ahref'); How could I use .call() though, if the function is called inline and does not have a name?

    I have a custom treeview which i create programmatically as there is a need of specific layout which is not achievable using asp.net treeview.It is on a master page.When i click on treenodes the content area refreshes after a postback.There is a page category.aspx which is a content page of this master page.I have a user control in that content area named products.aspx.Now i want to use ajax to prevent the postback which happens when i click on treenode.I tried putting user control in updatepanel and treeview as well in updatepanel but to no awail. How to use updatepanel in this scenerio.

Details the information stored about each mobile phone will include • Its type e.g. “Sony ericsson x90” or “Samsung Galaxy S”; • Its screen size in inches; You may assume that this a whole number from the scale 3 to 5 inclusive. • Its memory card capacity in gigabytes You may assume that this a whole number • The name of its present service provider You may assume this is a single line of text. • The type of contract with service provider You may assume this is a single line of text. • Its camera resolution in megapixels; You should not assume that this a whole number; • The percentage of charge left on the phone e.g. a fully charged phone will have a charge of 100. You may assume that this a whole number • Whether the phone has GPS or not. Your class will have fields corresponding to these attributes . Start by opening BlueJ, creating a new project called myMobile which has a classMobile and set up the fields that you need, Next you will need to write a Constructor for the class. Assume that each phone is manufactured by creating an object and specifying its type, its screen size, its memory card capacity, its camera resolution and whether it has GPS or not. Therefore you will need a constructor that allows you to pass arguments to initialise these five attributes. Other fields should be set to appropriate default values. You may assume that a new phone comes fully charged. When the phone is sold to its owner, you will need to set the service provider and type of contract with that provider so you will need mutator methods • setProvider () - - to set service provider. • setContractType - - to set the type of contract These methods will be used when the phones provider is changed. You should also write a mutator method ChargeUp () which simulates fully charging the phone. At present it has 30% of its battery charge remaining. Check that the new method works correctly by for example, • creating a Mobile object and setting its fields; • calling printDetails () and t=checking the report corresponds to the details you have just given the mobile; • changing the service provider and contract type by calling setprovider () and setContractType (); • calling printDetails () and checking the report now prints out the new details. Challenging excercises • write a mutator methodswitchedOnFor () =which simulates using the phone for a specified period. You may assume the phone loses 1% of its charge for each hour that it is switched on . • write an accessor method checkcharge () whichg checks the phone remaing charge.   • Unable to drop constraint in sql server 2005 "Could not drop constraint. See previous errors"

    I'm trying to drop a constraint on a db table, something like: ALTER TABLE MyTable drop CONSTRAINT FK_MyTable_AnotherTable But the execution just runs and runs. If I stop it I see: Msg 3727, Level 16, State 0, Line 2 Could not drop constraint. See previous errors. Web search throws up various pages but note that the constraint is properly named and I am trying to remove it using the correct name

  • Isn't objective-c function parameter syntax weird? [closed]

    Consider the following method: +(void) myMethod:(int)arg1 **argument2**(int)arg2 **argument3**(int) arg3; See how the first argument, unlike the 2nd and 3rd, doesn't have a description, giving it an impression of bad symmetry. Also you would expect the extra typing will provide named argument as you pass it in, but you still have to pass them in the correct order. Can anyone help me make sense of this?

    Hi Folks, I'm curious what would be the best practice to extend the Date constructor. The problem I'm facing is, that the Internet Explorer (< 7+8) can't parse a date like new Date('2010-05-11'); I have to admit that this is not a standard method to parse, anyways FireFox and Chrome perform well on that kind of date string. Now I'm wondering, should I just split/parse/rebuild the string before calling new Date() or is there a more elegant solution ?

    I'm new to PHP and MySQL I want a user to be able to store multiple names and there meanings in a MySQL database tables named names using PHP I will dynamically create form fields with JQuery every time a user clicks on a link so a user can enter 1 to 1,000,000 different names and there meanings which will be stored in a table called names. Since I asked my last question I figured out how to store my values from my form using the for loop but every time I loop my values when I add one or more dynamic fields the second form field named meaning will not save the value entered also my dynamic form fields keep looping doubling, tripling and so on the entered values into the database it all depends on how many form fields are added dynamically. I was wondering how can I fix these problems? On a side note I replaced the query with echo's to see the values that are being entered.
