• How can I increase Emacs key repeat rate in OS X Mountain Lion

  Emacs does not seem to respect the OS's key repeat rate. I'm using emacs in the terminal. I've set the repeat rate to as fast as possible by directly editing the settings in the following file (I restarted after making the change): open ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist The rest of the system observes the repeat rate. The terminal works as expected, as does vim. But, when I use emacs I still get the annoyingly slow repeat rate.

• Download multiple RSS attachments in Outlook

  Does anyone know, please, how one can download multiple RSS attachements? If one right clicks on an RSS message, Outlook will download the attached conent from the RSS feed but this needs to be done a message at a time. While the "Account Settings" tab will allow future attachements to be downloaded with the RSS message, is there any way this can be done to download multiple RSS attachments, so they do not have to be done one by one?

• Exchange 2010 OWA- Open Other User Mailbox

  I just started working for this small firm (30 people) a little bit ago, replacing their System Admin. First thing I noticed was Exchange Server 2010 was WAY out of date. Believe it or not they did not have SP1 installed. So after I installed and configured Exchange 2010 SP3 and redirected OWA I noticed something in OWA. I could add ANYONE's User Mailbox WITHOUT giving mailbox premission. I created a couple test users, same thing. I even had another employee provide me access to their OWA and they could open anyone's Inbox without granting permission. I don't want to play the blame game, but I was SHOCKED that this was going on. Luckly being such a small company I'll be able to cover this mistake that I did not create, BUT HOW? My guess is that I need to find out where the past System Admin went wrong in providing Full Access Permission? Or could this be a Auto-Mapping issue?   I have a Citrix Web Interface (as part of XenApp 6.0 on Windows Server 2008 R2) that is behind a NAT, I can access the web interface fine (via both SSL and standard port 80) but when I go to launch a application that connection is still being made over the server's internal IP address. How do I configure the web interface to default to the external IP address of the box instead of its internal LAN IP?

• iTunes memory usage

  Why does iTunes use upwards of 70 megs of ram when it is minimized to my system tray playing music? -- Update -- I understand that iTunes is a resource hog :) What I'm trying to find out, is what part of iTunes is using all that ram. Is it the music library? If I have a smaller music library, will it use less ram? Is it loading all the Album Artwork into ram for some dumb reason? Additionally, is there any recommendations on what someone could do to reduce the amount of ram it is using?

• Windows 7 changes desktop icon location when switching from External Monitor to Internal Monitor (laptop)

  I have a Windows 7 Laptop, and lately its been acting really weird with my 1080p Monitor. When I get home from school, Ill plug my screen in, and close my laptop lid (which makes the laptop treat the Monitor as the primary and only screen). However it will move my desktop icons! This also happens when I remove / unplug the screen, as shown in the pictures. I hate this, as Im the kinda person who's use to every icon being in a set spot, and so am use to their location. Its a massive hassle to try and move the icons back to their original spot. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? • How do I add a counter for process data in perfmon.exe for a process that isn't currently running?

  I would like to perform an ad hoc capture of data using perfmon.exe for a process that runs during the night. I know the name of the executable--lets call it Foo.exe. If the process were currently running, I would go to the Add Counters dialog in perfmon, switch to the Process object, and select the Foo instance from the list. However, it's not currently running. Is it possible to set up perfmon so that it will capture process data for this process when it starts, and if so, how would I configure it to do so?

• javascript doesn't seem to be able to post form data (nginx server w/ php-fpm)

  So the situation is like so: I have a nginx server with php-fpm installed. All is well and the site scripts and all work perfectly. I am able to use html to POST form data and it works just fine. However, There seems to be be some correlation between javascript, the POST protocol and nothing happening. I cant seem to determine the issue. Example: I have a user login widget that uses javascript on submit the fields and POST the data to a backend auth script which returns a server message that then populates the login box saying something like "Login Successful" followed by reloading the page to properly enable content. Problem is, nothing happens when you hit submit. I do know the setup works because i had it working on apache before migrating. Also if it makes any difference, the server is a Amazon EC2 instance using the Amazon AMI. • Failover NIC with Windows 7 running Apache Server

  I have a Apache Server running on a Windows 7 Desktop for a internal website (Intranet). I am trying to figure out how I can make this system as failover safe as possible. One thing I want to do is use the 2nd NIC card that is currently disable. I only have one gateway address to my router. I do not have any computer running a Server O/S. If NIC1 crashes by chance(just humor me!), how could NIC2's IP take on the host name (I have mapped in host file) . I don't really care if the static IP of NIC2 changes seeing that the host name is the only thing I need. Could I add two IP's to the host file, with same host email and maybe create some script that will run IF NIC 1 fails? OR is there any failover software that will do this for me?

• Exchange Full Access issue

  I was just hired as a System Admin for a small company. They use Exchange 2010 for their Mail Server. I've never had a permission issue like this with Exchange because I worked for a larger firm with less responsibility before. Their old system admin is LONG GONE, so I can't ask him what he did. The issue: Right now ANYONE can gain access to a mailbox and view the mail in the mailbox. This is disabled by default you say and you have to grant them full access ? You are right, but the old System Admin I guess didn't know what he was doing. SO right now user A can open up user B mailbox with out being granted permission. So here is what I found out. Every user in EMC Full Access Permission has Exchange Server group granted. Within the Exchange Server Group, Domain User's is a Member Of. Within Domain User's all user's are listed as Members. So my guess is because of this all users can access ANY mailbox? Well GOOD News. The company is small (35 people) and they are not computer savvy, so hopefully no one has figured out they can open anyone's mailbox.(From what I can tell no). Next thing I did was with my domain user in EMC, delete Exchange Servers Group in FUll Access Permissions and grant access to my user. I made sure that my memeber was apart of the Exchange Server Group. Went to our OWA site and now I don't have permission to my own mailbox. Re did everything to the way it was with my user and now I'm stuck. Any help? I would think granting a single user that is in the Exchange Server group, Full Access to that mailbox would enable them to open that mailbox???? I guess I am wrong.

• HTTPHeaders Added to Downloaded File - CocoaHTTPServer???

  In an iPhone app where I use cocoahttpserver and take a sqlite database file from the iPhone and download it with a browser to my PC, when I look at the downloaded file using TextEdit, I see the text (below) at the end of the file. This text has apparently no effect on use of the database file, but I would prefer to not add stuff to the database file at all. Any ideas where this header info is coming from in cocoahttpserver and how to stop it? • C# IsolatedStorage Not Working

No exceptions occur but, after writing the data, when I try to read the contents back it is blank, and I can find no evidence that it actually saved. • How to run a powershell script within a DOS batch file

  How do I have a powershell script embedded within the same file as a DOS batch script? I know this kind of thing is possible in other scenarios: Embedding SQL in a DOS batch script using sqlcmd and a clever arrangements of goto's and comments at the beginning of the file In a *nix environment having a the name of the program you wish to run the script with on the first line of the script commented out e.g. #!/usr/local/bin/python There may not be a way to do this - in which case I will have to call the separate powershell script from the launching DOS script. One possible solution I've considered is to echo out the powershell script, and then run it. A good reason to not do this is that part of the reason to attempt this is to be using the advantages of the powershell environment without the pain of, for example, DOS escape characters I have some unusual constraints and would like to find an elegant solution. I suspect this question may be baiting responses of the variety: "why don't you try and solve this different problem instead." Suffice to say these are my constraints, sorry about that. Any ideas? Is there a suitable combination of clever comments and escape characters that will enable me to achieve this? Some thoughts on how to achieve this: A carat ^ at the end of a line in DOS is a continuation - like an underscore in VB An ampersand & in DOS typically is used to separate commands echo Hello & echo World results in 2 echos on separate lines %0 will give you the script that's currently running So something like this (if I could make it work) would be good: # & call powershell -psconsolefile %0 # & goto :EOF /* From here on in we're running nice juicy powershell code */ Write-Output "Hello World" Except... It doesn't work... because the extension of the file isn't as per powershell's liking: Windows PowerShell console file "insideout.bat" extension is not psc1. Windows PowerShell console file extension must be psc1. DOS isn't really altogether happy with the situation either - although it does stumble on '#' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

  I have a third-part funtion which gives me a filtered queryset (e.g. records with 'valid'=True) but I want to remove a particular condition (e.g. to have all records, both valid and invalid). Is there a way to remove a filter condition to an already-filtered queryset? E.g. only_valid = MyModel.objects.filter(valid=True) all_records = only_valid.**remove_filter**('valid') (I know that it would be better to define 'all_records' before 'only_valid', but this is just an example...)

These two other queries don't return anything (the alert box is blank): $(this).find('api_detail_url').text(); $(this).find('name').text(); I've tried using jQuery selectors, like... $(this).find('game > name').text(); ...but that doesn't work, either, still get a blank alert box. Am I missing something? Testing is being done in Chrome.

• WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd Queries peerProvider for NeedsScope before any files are batche

  I'm building an application based on the WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd. When I deploy the server portion on a server, the code gives the error "The path is not valid. Check the directory for the database." during the call to NeedsScope() in the CeWebSyncService.cs file. Obviously the server can't access the client's sdf but what is supposed to happen to make this work? The app uses batching to send the data and the batches have to be marshalled across to the temp directory but this problem is occurring before any files have been batched over. There is nothing for the server to look at to determine whether the peerProivider needs scope. Replacing the ,  with \r\n is easy enough, as is the first replacement: Replace (^|\r\n)(\S+\s)([^,\r\n]*),\s With $1$2$3\r\n$2 But capturing the other names and applying the same prefix is what is eluding me today. Any suggestions?

In Firefox or Webkit-based browsers, though, my #content div first shrinks to 0px and then resizes to 300px. I'm using jQuery 1.4.2, Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 4.0.249.89. Any ideas?

• Parse error when trying to install app on Asus eee PC 701 running Android 2.0

  A beta tester of mine has a Asus eee pc 701 running Android 2.0 and he is trying to install an app on it from my web site. He is able to download the app but is getting a "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package" error. I don't really know if this problem is with the eee pc or with the apk since he is the first person to try to install it. I built it for 2.0, the manifest has 5 as the minimum API level and I used Eclipse to export and sign it. But this is my first Android app and he is the first to try to install it, so I am not sure what the problem might be? Could just be the Android implementation too. • Is there an analog for the VI '.' command to repeat-last-typed-text

  I've used emacs for decades and always wondered, but kept on coding, if there was a way to type in something, them move the cursor and insert the same text, like the VI . command. Instead what I do is to type the text, set the mark, backup, copy the region, go to the next spot (often just C-n, down one line) and then pre-arg yank, C-u C-y. It's the overhead of set mark, backup and copy region that makes me just go ahead and retype the thing.
