  • Keeping up with Technology

    If you're like me, you have a hard time keeping up with all the technologies out there. The reality is there's too many new technologies (languages, methodologies,  tools, etc). One of the ways I try to keep up with everything is by using good ol' RSS feeds in conjunction with Google Reader. Google Reader is both an online aggregator of RSS feeds, and it also has a good companion app on Google Android. The nicest part of Google Reader for me is the "All Listings" view which gives me a reverse chronological view of ALL articles (mixed together) regardless of the actual RSS feed.  This way, I get to see the newest articles first. I can then choose to hide the articles I've viewed, etc. Here is a list of my RSS feeds. Admittedly, some of these are all over the spectrum. But you might find one or two interesting. .NET Rocks!   • Why am i getting "error:1409F07F:SSL routines:SSL3_WRITE_PENDING: bad write retry" error while attem

    I came across this error, and had to look in a lot of placed until i was able to find the reason for this error and thought this might save someone else the hassle. the reason is pretty simple: when SSL_Write returns with SSL_ERROR_WANT_WRITE or SSL_ERROR_WANT_READ, you have to repeat the call to SSL_write with the same parameters again, after the condition is satisfied. Calling it with different parameters, will yield the 1409F07F bar write retry error. Hope this saved someone's important time :P Amit.

    I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error. "--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --" The structure of the project is like, it has the different sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between one another. All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists. Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code. I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it.     Let's say I have a simple application. It tries to add a new entry to a database grabing the info from the user. The information is a tipical MasterDetail objetc like an invoice. The Invoice object used to collect the data has some simple atributes (Id, Date, etc...) and a List of InvoiceDetail, consisting of some simple atributes (invoiceId, productId, quantity, etc...) A form in the UI Layer collects the data from the user, creates an instance of Invoice and sends it to the Bussiness Layer. The Bussines layer sends the data to a Validation Module. If any error in the input is detected it has to return some kind of error code. The Bussiness Layer has to send the error code back to the Form to let the user correct the worng information. I want the application to display some kind of warning (a different background color for example) in every form control with an error. ¿What's a good aproach to I manage the errors to be able to inform the form which controls are wrong? ¿Can I create an error object?¿Use delegates?. I'm using VB.net but don't think this is relevant to the solution of the problem. P.D: Please suggest me some tags to this post.

TCP though is connection-oriented while UDP is connectionless which is used when the message itself can be fit into a single message. Question: If HTTP uses TCP, and TCP provides reliable conjnections for multiple message excahnge, and HTTP is said to be connectionless then how is this possible? TCP is connection-oriented? So how is HTTP connectionless????

Actually this link target is not an exact page or a location. But essential for the blog feeds. Anyway I have to fix this and remove from the Google crawler error's list. But haven't got any idea, because cannot redirect or do a 404 header with this link target. Have anyone got an idea of fixing this?

    I'm wondering if it's possible to send a response every second or so to a single http request. Like for example the client makes an http request, then the server sends a space character every second. This could be never ending or with a limit, for example a minute. I think the word 'response' is misleading in this context, since I don't necessarily mean an http response. The whole http response could be composed of the space characters, which would mean a single http response to a single http request, except that it is a minute long. I tried chunked encoding but I don't think it works, or at least my implementation's wrong.

    Hi guys, We're building a PHP app based on Good old MVC (codeigniter framework) and have run into trouble with a massive chained action that consists of multiple model calls, that together is a part of a big transaction to the database. We want to be able to do a list of actions and get a status report of each one back from the function, whatever the outcome is. Our first initial idea was to utilize the exceptions of PHP5, but since we want to also need status messages that doesnt break the execution of the script, this was our solution that we came up with.     Going back in time, I always had a problem with mathematics. It was a great subject and I loved it a lot but I only mastered it after practices a lot. I learned that mathematics problems should be addressed systematically and being verbose is not a trick, I learned to solve any problem. Recently one of reader sent me an email with the title “Mathematics problem – please help!” and I was a bit scared. I was good at mathematics but not the best. When I opened the email I was relieved as it was Mathematics problem with SQL Server. My friend received following error while working with SQL Server. Msg 3623, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 An invalid floating point operation occurred. The reasons for the error is simply that invalid usage of the mathematical function is attempted. Let me give you a few examples of the same. SELECT SQRT(-5); SELECT ACOS(-3); SELECT LOG(-9); If you run any of the above functions they will give you an error related to invalid floating point. Honestly there is no workaround except passing the function appropriate values. SQRT of a negative number will give you result in real numbers which is not supported at this point of time as well LOG of a negative number is not possible (because logarithm is the inverse function of an exponential function and the exponential function is NEVER negative). When I send above reply to my friend he did understand that he was passing incorrect value to the function. As mentioned earlier the only way to fix this issue is finding incorrect value and avoid passing it to the function. Every mathematics function is different and there is not a single solution to identify erroneous value passed. If you are facing this error and not able to figure out the solution.   • PHP MVC error handling, view display and user permissions

    I am building a moderation panel from scratch in a MVC approach and a lot of questions cropped up during development. I would like to hear from others how they handle these situations. Error handling Should you handle an error inside the class method or should the method return something anyway and you handle the error in controller? What about PDO exceptions, how to handle them? For example, let's say we have a method that returns true if the user exists in a table and false if he does not exist. What do you return in the catch statement? You can't just return false because then the controller assumes that everything is alright while the truth is that something must be seriously broken. Displaying the error from the method completely breaks the whole design. Maybe a page redirect inside the method? The proper way to show a view The controller right now looks something like this: include('view/header.php'); if ($_GET['m']=='something') include('view/something.php'); elseif ($_GET['m']=='somethingelse') include('view/somethingelse.php'); include('view/foter.php'); Each view also checks if it was included from the index page to prevent it being accessed directly. There is a view file for each different document body. Is this way of including different views ok or is there a more proper way? Managing user rights Each user has his own rights, what he can see and what he can do. Which part of the system should verify that user has the permission to see the view, controller or view itself? Right now I do permission checks directly in the view because each view can contain several forms that require different permissions and I would need to make a seperate file for each of them if it was put in the controller. I also have to re-check for the permissions everytime a form is submitted because form data can be easily forged. The truth is, all this permission checking and validating the inputs just turns the controller into a huge if/then/else cluster. I feel like 90% of the time I am doing error checks/permissions/validations and very little of the actual logic. Is this normal even for popular frameworks?

  • Hyper-V 2012 and VM web server http

    I have a a few windows 2008 R2 Datacenter machines and a few windows 2012 Datacenter machines. I was runnin RedHat 6.2 VM on 2008 and all my other servers could access it over http until I put a VM up on 2012. No mater what I have done, (turned off selinux, firewall, iptables), on both RedHat servers has allowed them to pass http traffic. They can ping each other and ssh to each other but not http. I tried turning off the windows firewalls to, but no joy. I then moved the RedHat VM to the 2012 server and now the two RedHat VM's can http to each other, but none of the other vm's on other 2012 and 2008 servers can communicate over http. Anyone have some insight?

    Already set up my local net configuration to be monitored by Nagios3. I found a problem that Nagios3 reports a warning in the HTTP monitoring service of a Debian server set at ip 192.168.1.52, that has an individual virtual host and a mass virtual host for application development. I get this status message: HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found I used the Nagios tools to check. servername is the name of the vhost server name I used in the Apache configuration. /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H servername -I 192.168.1.52 receiving this status message: HTTP OK HTTP/1.1 200 OK - 37900 bytes in 0.504 seconds |time=0.503946s;;;0.000000 size=37900B;;;0 But when I check like this: /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -I 192.168.1.52 I get the same status message as the warning, so I assume that I don't have Nagios completely well set up because doesn't recognize the vhosts for that server, how it should be as the check_http service shows. Where should I look to fix that warning?

    Simple question but:- We have a server running Domino Http server on port 80. We have another apache server running on 8081. We want to set a DNS entry (say 'Things') to point to a page on the 8081 server. As I see it we need to do some kind of redirect on the Domino server to say that any traffic from hostname 'Things' gets a redirect to "http://server:8081/content/". So, in summary, if I type in "http://Things" on my browser I get redirected to "http://server:8081/content/" Does anyone know how to do this on the Domino Http server? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Rejecting new HTTP requests when server reaches a certain throughput

    I have a requirement to run an HTTP server that rejects new HTTP requests (with a 503, or similar) when the global transfer rate of current HTTP responses exceeds a certain level. For example, if the web server is transferring at 98Mbps, and a new HTTP request arrives, we would want to reject this (as we couldn't guarantee a good speed). I've had a look at mod_cband for Apache, limit_req for nginx, and lighttpd's rate limiting features, but none of them seem to handle my (rather contrived, granted) use case. I should add that I'm open to using pretty much any web server, and am open to implementing this in iptables rules if someone can craft such a rule! (Refusing the TCP connection is fine, it doesn't have to respond with an HTTP 503). Any suggestions?

    I been noticing a lot lately in my /server-status the OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0 has been coming up lately a lot. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest apache/php/MySQL. I'm not sure what they're for but I would like to see if it would effect performance by some how turning it off. I host some stuff that is accessed a lot that uses PHP/MySQL (600 rps). I'm not sure what it's there for but I do see the local 127.0.0.1 IP, so I assume it's something running local. What is it? How do your turn it off? If turned off how would it effect performance?
