  • Gnome/X logs off immediately after login -- which logfiles are relevant?

    - by joebuntu
    I've been tinkering with fingerprint-gui as well as X/xrandr resolution settings. When I start my machine, it boots up normally. As soon as X and gnome have finished starting, it logs me off automatically and brings me back to the gdm login prompt with the user list. Then I am, however, able to log in using "Ubuntu Desktop Fail-safe". I've checked the list of start-up applications, but everything seems fine there. I can't yet put my finger on what exactly might be responsible for this: X, gnome or some messed up pam.d settings. So far I've checked /var/logs/X11/xorg.0.log, /var/logs/auth.log and ~/.xsession-errors. In addition, I don't quite seem to understand the "interplay" between X, GDM, GNOME, GNOME-policykit, PAM.d and all that. Are there any other relevant log files that could point me to what's broken? • PLEASE HELP! Cannot login to server after file permissions change!

    - by John
    So, I did something really stupid. Please bear with me as I am new to ubuntu server. I ran chmod -R 700 / when I was logged in as root. Now when I try to login as my normal user I immediately get kicked out. Is there anyway to log back in to the server whether it is root or whoever so that I can change the permissions? or am I totally screwed? I dont think I have root access enabled in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. I do have physical access to the server. I really need some help here. Thanks in advance!

  • multiple applications using same login database logging each other out

    - by Axarydax
    Hello, I've set up two asp.net applications on a machine, their web.config files contain the same applicationName value in AspNetSqlMembershipProvider item so they share users and roles. The problem sequence is: user logs into application A, opens new tab in a browser logs into application B, his login in application A is signed out and vice versa. Should I use different approach to sharing login information between two applications? Thanks.

  • integriting facebook login button with Facebooker (rails plugin)

    - by dexterdeng
    I was integriting login-button with Facebooker, as I wanted to use facepile and customise the facebook login button, so I have to use facebook js sdk. I used the facebooker to connect facebook. now I found a issue. window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({ appId: '<%=Facebooker.api_key%>', status: true, cookie: true, xfbml: true }); }; (function() { var e = document.createElement('script'); e.type = 'text/javascript'; e.src = document.location.protocol + '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js'; e.async = true; document.getElementById('fb-root').appendChild(e); }()); function fblogin(){ var pearms = "email,user_birthday,friends_location,offline_access,publish_stream,read_friendlists,user_birthday,user_location"; FB.getLoginStatus(function(response) { if (response.session) { // logged in and connected user, someone you know window.location = "http://domain/account/link_user_accounts"; return true; } else { // no user session available, someone you dont know FB.login(function(response) { if (response.session) { if (response.perms) { // after logged in the facebook account. $.inspect(response.perms);//return all these perms I expected. it should be fine there. window.location = "http://domain/account/link_user_accounts"; } return true; } else { return false; } },"email,user_birthday,friends_location,offline_access,publish_stream,read_friendlists"); } }) }; Let's say if the api_key is "1111111111". take a look at this line: " ` if (response.session) { if (response.perms) { $.inspect(response.perms); " now I was trying to login , call fblogin() , I'm sure that the response.perms equal to the perms I expected. (btw, at that time, I have a facebook plugin named facepile works too, it showed my friends after I called fblogin() and connected to facebook by typing my email and password ). so now it should run window.location = "http://domain/account/link_user_accounts"; yes, this line run. but the facebook_session can't build successfully. after digging the facebooker's code, I found this from the rails plugin facebooker: def create_facebook_session secure_with_facebook_params! || secure_with_cookies! || secure_with_token! end mostly, it would run secure_with_cookies! , and if the cookies with keys as "fbs_#{Facebooker.api_key}","#{Facebooker.api_key}_ss", "#{Facebooker.api_key}_session_key",.. created, then the facebook_session can be created. but these cookies can't be created after I logged in facebook until I refresh the current page by hand . I noticed if I refresh the page, the cookies with these keys added to the browser. but why they can't be added after I logged in facebook at once? I need these keys to create facebook_session. did I forgot something excepted these code I pasted? anybody help? thank you very much!

  • Losing session after Login - Java

    - by Patrick Villela
    I'm building an application that needs to login to a certain page and make a navigation. I can login, provided that the response contains a string that identifies it. But, when I navigate to the second page, I can't see the page as a logged user, only as anonymous. I'll provide my code. import java.net.*; import java.security.*; import java.security.cert.*; import javax.net.ssl.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class PostTest { static HttpsURLConnection conn = null; private static class DefaultTrustManager implements X509TrustManager { @Override public void checkClientTrusted(X509Certificate[] arg0, String arg1) throws CertificateException {} @Override public void checkServerTrusted(X509Certificate[] arg0, String arg1) throws CertificateException {} @Override public X509Certificate[] getAcceptedIssuers() { return null; } } public static void main(String[] args) { try { SSLContext ctx = SSLContext.getInstance("TLS"); ctx.init(new KeyManager[0], new TrustManager[] {new DefaultTrustManager()}, new SecureRandom()); SSLContext.setDefault(ctx); String data = URLEncoder.encode("txtUserName", "UTF-8") + "=" + URLEncoder.encode(/*username*/, "UTF-8"); data += "&" + URLEncoder.encode("txtPassword", "UTF-8") + "=" + URLEncoder.encode(/*password*/", "UTF-8"); data += "&" + URLEncoder.encode("envia", "UTF-8") + "=" + URLEncoder.encode("1", "UTF-8"); connectToSSL(/*login url*/); conn.setDoOutput(true); OutputStreamWriter wr = new OutputStreamWriter(conn.getOutputStream()); wr.write(data); wr.flush(); BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream())); String line; String resposta = ""; while((line = rd.readLine()) != null) { resposta += line + "\n"; } System.out.println("valid login -> " + resposta.contains(/*string that assures me I'm looged in*/)); connectToSSL(/*first navigation page*/); rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream())); while((line = rd.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println(line); } } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } private static void connectToSSL(String address) { try { URL url = new URL(address); conn = (HttpsURLConnection) url.openConnection(); conn.setHostnameVerifier(new HostnameVerifier() { @Override public boolean verify(String arg0, SSLSession arg1) { return true; } }); } catch(Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } Any further information, just ask.     - by Paryeshakaya
    Hello, I need to login by a PHP script that uses CURL to a Joomla website, in order to access to a private page that needs to be processed, but nothwithstanding several attempts I have done, I have always a 403 error. I have done a similar thing with other websites and it worked. Script I use: $uname = "id"; $upswd = "pswd"; $url = "http://www.somewebpage.com"; $agent = "'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6'"; $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, FALSE ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, TRUE ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR, './cookie.txt'); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE, './cookie.txt'); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT, $agent ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, TRUE ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_REFERER, $url1); // POST fields $postfields = array(); $postfields['username'] = urlencode($uname); $postfields['passwd'] = urlencode($upswd); $postfields['remember'] = 'yes'; $postfields['option'] = 'login'; $postfields['op2'] = 'login'; $postfields['return'] = urlencode($url); $postfields['message'] = '0'; $postfields['force_session'] = '1'; $postfields['j3b00d36f4336137f4f03335c5eee6440'] = '1'; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postfields); $ret = curl_exec($ch); The username and password, as well as the website URL I am using are perfectly working. This is the result I get: HTTP/1.1 100 Continue HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Date: Sat, 06 Feb 2010 08:29:36 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.13 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.13 OpenSSL/0.9.7a DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.10 Connection: close Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html Is there something wrong in my CURL request? Or is there a limit with Joomla remote login? Thanks for suggestions!

  • Login system and sessions (php)

    - by Jonathan
    I've created a login page and registration page and now I want to use that to password protect pages and have pages which show information specific to that user. Would storing the user ID of the user logged in in a Session variable be a safe and correct way of doing this? How easy would it be for a user to change the session variable to a different ID and access another user's information, and not having to type the users login details in?

  • Get return values from a stored procedure in c# (login process)

    - by Jin
    Hi all, I am trying to use a Stored Procedure which takes two parameters (login, pw) and returns the user info. If I execute the SP manually, I get Session_UID User_Group_Name Sys_User_Name ------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------- - NULL Administrators NTMSAdmin No rows affected. (1 row(s) returned) @RETURN_VALUE = 0 Finished running [dbo].[p_SYS_Login]. But with the code below, I only get the return value. do you know how to get the other values shown above like Session_UID, User_Group_Name, and Sys_User_Name ? if you see the commented part below code. I tried to add some output parameters but it doesn't work with incorrect number of parameters error. string strConnection = Settings.Default.ConnectionString; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(strConnection)) { using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand()) { SqlDataReader rdr = null; cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = "p_SYS_Login"; //cmd.CommandText = "p_sys_Select_User_Group"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; SqlParameter paramReturnValue = new SqlParameter(); paramReturnValue.ParameterName = "@RETURN_VALUE"; paramReturnValue.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Int; paramReturnValue.SourceColumn = null; paramReturnValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue; //SqlParameter paramGroupName = new SqlParameter("@User_Group_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramGroupName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; //SqlParameter paramUserName = new SqlParameter("@Sys_User_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramUserName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramReturnValue); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramGroupName); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramUserName); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Login", textUserID.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Password", textPassword.Text); try { conn.Open(); object result = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); int returnValue = (int)cmd.Parameters["@RETURN_VALUE"].Value; if (returnValue == 0) { Hide(); Program.MapForm.Show(); } else if (returnValue == 1) { MessageBox.Show("The username or password you entered is incorrect", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else if (returnValue == 2) { MessageBox.Show("This account is disabled", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else { MessageBox.Show("Database error.   • ajax login problem

I have read the other questions in connection with this problem, but I couldn't solve the response problem from login.php with Json. Could you help me how should I response to the ajax calling? ( with a code if it is possible) Thank you very much, and sorry for questioning again.

  • Using Facebook Login to create a user?

    - by andbeyond
    I've read this SO post which led me to this FB policy page, which seemed to include some pertinent information, but I'd like more of a community response, maybe some experienced FB API people who know the limits. My question is if I can use Facebook's Login api to, essentially, create a new user on my website. I really would just like to allow users to easily "transfer" some data from FB in order to more easily create a new account on my site. I realize, first and foremost, that I would obviously announce to the user that by click "submit" in the form, that they are creating a separate account on my site. Pertinent blocks on the policy page state: You may cache data you receive through use of the Facebook API in order to improve your application’s user experience, but you should try to keep the data up to date. This permission does not give you any rights to such data. Which doesn't look good for me, but also this: If you stop using Platform or we disable your application, you must delete all data you have received through use of the Facebook API unless: (a) it is basic account information; or (b) you have received explicit consent from the user to retain their data. Which, in my case, I would be satisfying part B. I would be asking the user's permission to retain the data, as I am simply using Facebook as a conveience to the user when creating an account. I also realize that Facebook has a registration API, but this would require a Facebook styled login form, along with my own sites login form, and I'd rather one interface, as this makes it easier for me on the front and back end. Any thoughts?

  • OAuth in Rails - google, twitter, facebook, connect for login like stackoverflow login

    - by Sam
    Rails has the rest autho plugin which works well but is there a solution for incorporating twitter, facebook, google, yahoo, etc... Seems like each on has its own plugin and demands and mixing them is going to be a mess. This is for logging in users like how Stackoverflow gets things done not for using the robust features of the APIs. What I want to do is do what stackoverflow did for login but in rails.

  • Framework 4 Features: Login Id Support

    - by Anthony Shorten
    Given that Oracle Utilities Application Framework 4 is available as part of Mobile Work Force Management and other product progressively I am preparing a number of short but sweet blog entries highlighting some of the new functionality that has been implemented. This is the first entry and it is on a new security feature called Login Id. In past releases of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework, the userid used for authentication and authorization was limited to eight (8) characters in length. This mirrored what the market required in the past with LAN userids and even legacy userids being that length. The technology market has since progressed to longer userid lengths. It is very common to hear that email addresses are being used as credentials for production systems. To achieve this in past versions of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework, sites had to introduce a short userid (8 characters in length) as an alias in your preferred security store. You then configured your J2EE Web Application Server to use the alias as credentials. This sometimes was a standard feaure of the security store and/or the J2EE Web Application Server, if you were lucky. If not, some java code has to be written to implement the solution. In Oracle Utilities Application Framework 4 we introduced a new attribute on the user object called Login Id. The Login Id can be up to 256 characters in length and is an alternative to the existing userid stored on the user object. This means the Oracle Utilities Application Framework can support both long and short userids. For backward compatibility we use the Login Id for authentication but the short userid for authorization and auditing. The user object within the Oracle Utilities Application Framework holds the translation. Backward compatibility is always a consideration in any of our designs for future or changed functionality. You will see reference to this fact in the blog entries I will be composing over the next few months. We have also thought about the flexibility in implementing this feature. The Login Id can be the same value of the Userid (the default for backward compatibility) or can be different. Both the Login Id and Userid have to be unique. This avoids sharing of credentials and is also backward compatible. You can manually enter the Login Id or provision it from Oracle Identity Manager (or other tool). If you use the Login Id only, then we will not autogenerate a short userid automatically as the rules for this can vary from site to site. You have a number of options there. Most Identity provisioning tools can generate a short userid at user creation time and this can be used. If you do not use provisioning tools, then you can write a class extension using the SDK to autoegenerate the userid based upon your sites preference. When we designed the feature there were lots of styles of generating userids (random, initial and surname, numbers etc). We could not really see a clear winner in that respect so we just allowed the extension to be inserted in if necessary. Most customers indicated to us that identity provisioning was the preferred way. This is why we released an Oracle Identity Manager integration with the framework. The Login id is case sensitive now which was not supported under userid. The introduction of the Login Id allows the product to offer flexible options when configuring security whilst maintaining backward compatibility.
