  • glib2 64-bit compile fails on Solaris 10

    - by Aaron
I'm encountering a problem building glib-2.26.1 on a Solaris 10 box - 64-bit. Goo diligence doesn't turn anything up, but no matter what I do the build fails in the same way. I've tried using the Sun Studio compiler, gcc (SFW) to no avail. When I compile I get the following error: [root@foo glib-2.26.1]$ export CC=/opt/solstudio12.2/bin/cc [root@foo glib-2.26.1]$ export CFLAGS="-m64" ...configure goes normally... • "cannot receive new filesystem stream: invalid backup stream" error when unpacking flash archive on solaris 10

    - by Bovril
I've searched around but i'm having no luck with some peculiar behavior with a flash archive. I'm using HP Server Automation 9.14 to deploy the OS. I'm creating a Solaris 10 flash archive to create a snapshot default build in our environment. I create the flash archive with # flar create -c -S -n g8-solaris10-u10 g8-solaris10-u10.flar It seems to create the file without any problems (exit status 0). When deploying to a new system (same hardware), it extracts to a point and then bails. The last error in the log I can see is Extracted 2047.00 MB ( 82% of 2488.98 MB archive) ERROR: Could not read file (172.27.118.100:/media/opsware/sunos/flar/g8-solaris10-u10.flar ERROR: Errors occurred during the extraction of flash archive. The file /tmp/flash_errors contains the list of errors encountered ERROR: Could not extract Flash archive ERROR: Flash installation failed The error log contained the following message cannot receive new filesystem stream: invalid backup stream A previous version of this flash archive (1.8gb) worked ok, so I suspect size may be a factor. The source system (the one the flash archive is an image of) is an HP BL460C GEN8 some more info below. OS version Info # uname -a SunOS testhostname 5.10 Generic_147441-01 i86pc i386 i86pc # who -r . run-level 3 Oct 15 08:15 3 0 S disks # echo | format Searching for disks...done AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS: 0. c0t0d0 <DEFAULT cyl 17841 alt 2 hd 255 sec 63> /pci@0,0/pci8086,3c06@2,2/pci103c,3355@0/sd@0,0 Specify disk (enter its number): Specify disk (enter its number): zpools # zpool list NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE CAP HEALTH ALTROOT rpool 136G 24.6G 111G 18% ONLINE - Zones # zoneadm list -cv ID NAME STATUS PATH BRAND IP 0 global running / native shared The file size of 2047 seems suspiciously close to 2048, which is concerning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Solaris Fibre Channel target - Configure QLogic QLA2340

    - by growse
I'm currently trying to set up a small storage system as a fibre channel target. This is for testing, so I'm currently using Solaris (Nexenta) and a QLogic QLA2340 HBA. For some reason, the qlc and qlt drivers don't support the QLA2340, so I'm using the qla2300 driver from QLogic's website. I've also got the scli utility installed for configuration. The HBA is detected by the system. That said, it's not clear how I get from this point to a point where I have a ZFS volume being exposed as an FC target. I was originally following this guide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzEBd3l7Qn4) but it seems that without the qlc/qlt drivers, Sun's configuration tools won't work. Does that also imply that COMSTAR also won't work? What's the best way to expose an FC target with this setup? Most of the options I'm seeing in scli complain that the port state is LinkDown (it is, I've not plugged anything in yet). Do I have to have my FC client plugged up and working before I can configure the target? Apologies for the slight vagueness of the question, but I'm not overly familiar with the terminology.

  • Solaris 10: cannot ping to/from server

    - by anurag kohli
    All, I have a Solaris 10 server which is not reachable by IP (ie can't ping to/from the server). I believe I have the default route setup correctly. See below: # ifconfig -a lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000 bge0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2 inet 192.168.62.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.62.255 ether 0:14:4f:b1:9b:30 # netstat -rn Routing Table: IPv4 Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface -------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ------ --------- 192.168.62.0 192.168.62.100 U 1 40 bge0 224.0.0.0 192.168.62.100 U 1 0 bge0 default 192.168.62.1 UG 1 0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 1 4 lo0 # # cat /etc/defaultrouter 192.168.62.1 I have verified layer1 and layer 2 are up on the switchport, and that it's on the correct VLAN. I have also checked the default gateawy (192.168.62.1) is in fact reachable since I can ping it from my PC: Pinging 192.168.62.1 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=254 I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. I would highly appreciated your assistance. Thank you very much.

  • Problems compiling coreutils-8.5 on Solaris 5.10 on Intel platform

    - by PP
I am having trouble compiling coreutils-8.5 on Solaris 5.10 on the Intel platform using cc. Firstly I had the following error during ./configure: checking whether <wchar.h> uses 'inline' correctly... no configure: error: <wchar.h> cannot be used with this compiler (/tool/sunstudio12.1/bin/cc -xc99=all -g -D_REENTRANT). This seemed similar to the problem in this question. The solution was to edit configure and replace the reference of -xc99=all to -xc99=all,no_lib. This permitted the configure to complete. Then I ran /usr/sfw/bin/gmake and it progressed until I received the following message: Making all in src gmake[2]: Entering directory `/home/peterp/src/coreutils-8.5/src' gmake all-am gmake[3]: Entering directory `/home/peterp/src/coreutils-8.5/src' CCLD chroot Undefined first referenced symbol in file eaccess ../lib/libcoreutils.a(euidaccess.o) ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to chroot What could cause this problem? PS I was only compiling coreutils because I wanted colour ls.

  • Removing resource limits on Solaris 10

    - by mikeydonkey
How should one remove all potential artificial resource limitations for a process? I just saw a case where a server application consumed resources so that some limitation was hit. The other shells into the same server etc were all extremely slow (waiting for something to free up for them; ie. prstat starting 5 minutes). It wasn't CPU/memory related problem so I think it has got something to do with ulimits / projects. Already managed to set the maximum open files to 500 000 and it helped a little bit. However there is something else and I can not figure out what resource is maxed out. I can get some in-house administrator probably to check this but I would like to understand how I could make sure there shouldn't be any limitations! If you think I am going the wrong way (would be better to figure out what limitation should be specfically tuned etc) please feel free to point me to the correct way. I know technical stuff - it's just Solaris 10 that is giving me headache :/

  • What are Information Centers?

    - by user12244613
Information Centers are similar to product pages in the Oracle Sun System Handbook Many customers like the Oracle Sun System Handbook concept of a home page with all the product attributes, troubleshooting etc. access from a single home page. This concept is now available for a range of Oracle Solaris, Systems, and Storage products. The Information Center for each product covers areas such as: Overview, Hot Topics, Patching and Maintenance. The Information Center pages are dynamically generated each night to ensure the latest content is available to you. Here are the top Solaris, Systems, and Storage Information Centers: Oracle Explorer Data Collector Oracle Solaris 10 Live Upgrade Oracle Solaris 11 Booting Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Desktop and Graphics Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Image Packaging System (IPS) Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Installation Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Product Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Security Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 System Administration Information Center Oracle Solaris 11 Zones Information Center Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool(SCAT) - Information Center Oracle Solaris Cluster Information Center Oracle Solaris Internet Protocol Multipathing (IPMP) Information Center Oracle Solaris Live Upgrade Information Center Oracle Solaris ZFS Information Center Oracle Solaris Zones Information Center CMT T1000/T2000 and Netra T2000 CMT T5120/T5120/T5140/T5220/T5240/T5440 Systems M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000-32/M9000-64 Management and Diagnostic Tools for Oracle Sun Systems Netra CT410/810 and Netra CT900 Network-Attached Storage (NAS) Oracle Explorer Data Collector Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDoms) Pillar Axiom 600 SL3000 Tape Library Sun Disk Storage Patching and Updates Sun Fire 3800/4800/4810/6800/E2900/E4900/E6900/V1280 - Netra 1280/1290 Sun Fire 12K/15K/E20K/E25K Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server Sun x86 Servers T3 and T4 Systems Tape Domain Firmware V210/V240/V440/V215/V245/V445 Servers VSM (VTSS/VLE/VTCS)

  • Installing vim7.2 on Solaris Sparc 10 as non-root

I'm trying to install vim to $HOME/bin by compiling the sources. ./configure --prefix=$home/bin seems to work, but when running make I get: > make Starting make in the src directory. If there are problems, cd to the src directory and run make there cd src && make first gcc -c -I. -Iproto -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DFEAT_GUI_GTK -I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/include -I/usr/include/atk-1.0 -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/openwin/include -I/usr/sfw/include -I/usr/sfw/include/freetype2 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include -g -O2 -I/usr/openwin/include -o objects/buffer.o buffer.c In file included from buffer.c:28: vim.h:41: error: syntax error before ':' token In file included from os_unix.h:29, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/sys/stat.h:251: error: syntax error before "blksize_t" /usr/include/sys/stat.h:255: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/stat.h:309: error: syntax error before "blksize_t" /usr/include/sys/stat.h:310: error: conflicting types for 'st_blocks' /usr/include/sys/stat.h:252: error: previous declaration of 'st_blocks' was here /usr/include/sys/stat.h:313: error: syntax error before '}' token In file included from /opt/local/bin/../lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.6/3.4.6/include/sys/signal.h:132, from /usr/include/signal.h:26, from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:259: error: syntax error before "ctid_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:292: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:294: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:390: error: syntax error before "ctid_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:398: error: conflicting types for '__fault' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:267: error: previous declaration of '__fault' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:404: error: conflicting types for '__file' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:273: error: previous declaration of '__file' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:420: error: conflicting types for '__prof' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:287: error: previous declaration of '__prof' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:424: error: conflicting types for '__rctl' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:291: error: previous declaration of '__rctl' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:426: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:428: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:432: error: syntax error before "k_siginfo_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:437: error: syntax error before '}' token In file included from /usr/include/signal.h:26, from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /opt/local/bin/../lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.6/3.4.6/include/sys/signal.h:173: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" In file included from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/signal.h:111: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" /usr/include/signal.h:113: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" buffer.c: In function `buflist_new': buffer.c:1502: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buflist_findname': buffer.c:1989: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `setfname': buffer.c:2578: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `otherfile_buf': buffer.c:2836: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buf_setino': buffer.c:2874: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buf_same_ino': buffer.c:2894: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type buffer.c:2895: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `objects/buffer.o' Current working directory /home/xluntor/vim72/src *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `first' How do I fix the make errors? Or is there another way to install vim as non-root? Thanks in advance EDIT: I took a look at the google groups link Sarah posted. The "Compiling Vim" page linked from there was for Linux, so the commands doesn't even work on Solars. But it did hint at logging the output of ./configure to a file, so I did that. Here it is: ./configure output removed. New version further down. Does anyone spot anything critical missing? EDIT 2: So I downloaded the vim package from sunfreeware. I couldn't just install it, since I don't have root privileges, but I was able to extract the package file. This was the file structure in it: `-- SMCvim `-- reloc |-- bin |-- doc | `-- vim `-- share |-- man | `-- man1 `-- vim `-- vim72 |-- autoload | `-- xml |-- colors |-- compiler |-- doc |-- ftplugin |-- indent |-- keymap |-- lang |-- macros | |-- hanoi | |-- life | |-- maze | `-- urm |-- plugin |-- print |-- spell |-- syntax |-- tools `-- tutor I moved the three files (vim, vimtutor, xdd) in SMCvim/reloc/bin to $HOME/bin, so now I can finally run $HOME/bin/vim! But where do I put the "share" directory and its content? EDIT 3: It might also be worth noting that there already exists an install of vim on the system, but it is broken. When I try to run it I get: ld.so.1: vim: fatal: libgtk-1.2.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory "which vim" outputs /opt/local/bin/vim EDIT 4: Trying to compile this on Solaris 10. uname -a SunOS ws005-22 5.10 Generic_141414-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise New ./configure output: ./configure --prefix=$home/bin ac_cv_sizeof_int=8 --enable-rubyinterp configure: loading cache auto/config.cache checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... unsupported checking how to run the C preprocessor... gcc -E checking for grep that handles long lines and -e... /usr/sfw/bin/ggrep checking for egrep... /usr/sfw/bin/ggrep -E checking for library containing strerror... none required checking for gawk... gawk checking for strip... strip checking for ANSI C header files... yes checking for sys/wait.h that is POSIX.1 compatible... no configure: checking for buggy tools... checking for BeOS... no checking for QNX... no checking for Darwin (Mac OS X)... no checking --with-local-dir argument... • How to use Event notification in Solaris 10 when a directory change

    - by user357594
I read the following page: Robert Benson's article on ECF developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/event_completion.html I also read the Solaris man pages but they are not very clear of how to use event notifications for directories. For example, If I add a new file into a directory, I would like to get some notification of that event. I found this link: blogs.sun.com/praks/entry/file_events_notification Which has what I need but it is for Solaris 11 ( which is not in the market yet). Based on the link below, I don't want to use poll because I want to get the performance advantage of events. blogs.sun.com/dap/entry/event_ports_and_performance Any suggestion is highly appreciated! -Armando.

  • [ASP.NET 4.0] Persisting Row Selection in Data Controls

    - by HosamKamel
Data Control Selection Feature In ASP.NET 2.0: ASP.NET Data Controls row selection feature was based on row index (in the current page), this of course produce an issue if you try to select an item in the first page then navigate to the second page without select any record you will find the same row (with the same index) selected in the second page! In the sample application attached: Select the second row in the books GridView. Navigate to second page without doing any selection You will find the second row in the second page selected. Persisting Row Selection: Is a new feature which replace the old selection mechanism which based on row index to be based on the row data key instead. This means that if you select the third row on page 1 and move to page 2, nothing is selected on page 2. When you move back to page 1, the third row is still selected. Data Control Selection Feature In ASP.NET 3.5 SP1: The Persisting Row Selection was initially supported only in Dynamic Data projects Data Control Selection Feature In ASP.NET 4.0: Persisted selection is now supported for the GridView and ListView controls in all projects. You can enable this feature by setting the EnablePersistedSelection property, as shown below: Important thing to note, once you enable this feature you have to set the DataKeyNames property too because as discussed the full approach is based on the Row Data Key Simple feature but  is a much more natural behavior than the behavior in earlier versions of ASP.NET. • What is New in ASP.NET 4.0 Code Access Security

    - by HosamKamel
ASP.NET Code Access Security (CAS) is a feature that helps protect server applications on hosting multiple Web sites, ASP.NET lets you assign a configurable trust level that corresponds to a predefined set of permissions. ASP.NET has predefined ASP.NET Trust Levels and Policy Files that you can assign to applications, you also can assign custom trust level and policy files. Most web hosting companies run ASP.NET applications in Medium Trust to prevent that one website affect or harm another site etc. As .NET Framework's Code Access Security model has evolved, ASP.NET 4.0 Code Access Security also has introduced several changes and improvements.   A Full post addresses the new changes in ASP.NET 4.0 is published at Asp.Net QA Team Here http://weblogs.asp.net/asptest/archive/2010/04/23/what-is-new-in-asp-net-4-0-code-access-security.aspx

  • How to Customize the File Open/Save Dialog Box in Windows

    - by Lori Kaufman
Generally, there are two kinds of Open/Save dialog boxes in Windows. One kind looks like Windows Explorer, with the tree on the left containing Favorites, Libraries, Computer, etc. The other kind contains a vertical toolbar, called the Places Bar. The Windows Explorer-style Open/Save dialog box can be customized by adding your own folders to the Favorites list. You can, then, click the arrows to the left of the main items, except the Favorites, to collapse them, leaving only the list of default and custom Favorites. The Places Bar is located along the left side of the File Open/Save dialog box and contains buttons providing access to frequently-used folders. The default buttons on the Places Bar are links to Recent Places, Desktop, Libraries, Computer, and Network. However, you change these links to be links to custom folders of your choice. We will show you how to customize the Places Bar using the registry and using a free tool in case you are not comfortable making changes in the registry. When you copy or cut some text or a graphic, it is temporarily stored in the clipboard and then retrieved later when you paste the data. We’ve previously showed you how to store multiple items to the clipboard (using Clipboard Manager) in Windows, how to copy a file path to the clipboard, how to create a shortcut to clear the clipboard, and how to copy a list of files to the clipboard. There are some limitations of the Windows clipboard. Only one item can be stored at a time. Each time you copy something, the current item in the clipboard is replaced. The data on the clipboard also cannot be viewed without pasting it into an application. In addition, the data on the clipboard is cleared when you log out of your Windows session. NOTE: The above image shows the clipboard viewer from Windows XP (clipbrd.exe), which is not available in Windows 7 or Vista. However, you can download the file from deviantART and run it to view the current entry in the clipboard in Windows 7. Here are some additional useful tools that help enhance or expand the features of the Windows clipboard and make it more useful. Can Dust Actually Damage My Computer? • Add a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to the Microsoft Robocopy Command Line Tool

    - by Lori Kaufman
Robocopy, or “Robust File Copy,” is a command line directory replication tool from Microsoft. It is available as part of Windows 7 and Vista as a standard feature, and was available as part of the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit. NOTE: For Windows XP, you can obtain Robocopy by downloading the resource kit. Robocopy allows you to setup simple or advanced backup strategies. It provides such features as multi-threaded copying, mirroring or synchronization mode, automatic retry, and the ability to resume the copying process. If you are comfortable with using command line tools, you can run Robocopy directly on the command line using the command syntax and options. You can also download the command line reference and usage notes for Robocopy as a PDF file. If you are more comfortable using a graphical user interface, or GUI, rather than the command line, there are a couple of options for adding a GUI to the Robocopy command line tool, making it easier to use. Both tools, RoboMirror and RichCopy, are discussed below and links to download each tool are provided. • Use a Free Tool to Edit, Delete, or Restore the Default Hosts File in Windows

    - by Lori Kaufman
The hosts file in Windows contains mappings of IP addresses to host names, like an address book for your computer. Your PC uses IP addresses to find websites, so it needs to translate the host names into IP addresses to access websites. When you enter a host name in a browser to visit a website, that host name is looked up in DNS servers to find the IP address. If you enter IP addresses and host names for websites you visit often, these websites will load faster, because the hosts file is loaded into memory when Windows start and overrides DNS server queries, creating a shortcut to the sites. Because the hosts file is checked first, you can also use it to block websites from tracking your activities on the internet, as well as block ads, banners, third-party cookies, and other intrusive elements on webpages. Your computer has its own host address, known as its “localhost” address. The IP address for localhost is 127.0.0.1. To block sites and website elements, you can enter the host name for the unwanted site in the hosts file and associate it with the localhost address. Blocking ads and other undesirable webpage elements, can also speed up the loading of websites. You don’t have to wait for all those items to load. The default hosts file that comes with Windows does not contain any host name/IP address mappings. You can add mappings manually, such as the IP address 74.125.224.72 for www.google.com. As an example of blocking an ad server website, you can enter the following line in your hosts file to block doubleclick.net from serving you ads. If you’ve used Linux, you’re probably familiar with the virtual desktop feature. It provides a convenient way to organize programs and folders open on your desktop. You can switch among multiple desktops and have different programs and folders open on each one. However, virtual desktops is a feature missing in Windows. There are many third-party options for adding virtual desktops to Windows, including one called Dexpot, which we have covered previously. Dexpot is free, but only for private use. Companies, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and even freelancers and self-employed people must buy the program. We found another virtual desktop tool that is completely free for everyone to use, called mDesktop. It’s a lightweight, open source program that allows you to switch among multiple desktops using hot keys and specify open programs or folders to be active on all desktops. You can use mDesktop to group related programs or to work on different projects on separate desktops. mDesktop is portable and does not need to be installed. Simply extract the .zip file you downloaded (see the link at the end of this article) and double-click the mDesktop.exe file.
