• Deny Switching to Tabpage in a tabcontrol

  I have a form(C#) with a tab control and its has around five tab pages. each of the tab have a few textboxes. 1) if a User is in say Tab A and edits certain fields i need to validate the text enetered if found invalid then i should not allow any tab switch ? is that possible? 2) Another case could be ... user edits some values and clicks on another tab, on doing so i need to check if the values that were enetered for Tab A is correct or not ? can i do this? I am a novice to C#... so may be these questions sound very basic any help will be appreciated. also i want to know what are these events of a tab page Leave, validated or validating ?

  Having a ModelFormSet built with modelformset_factory and using a model with an optional ForeignKey, how can I make empty (null) associations to validate on that form?   I know this is probably not possible but let's say I have a model with two properties. I write a ValidationAttribute for one of the properties. Can that VA look at the other property and make a decision? So; public class QuickQuote { public String state { get; set; } [MyRequiredValidator(ErrorMessage = "Error msg")] public String familyType { get; set; } So in the above example, can the validator test to see what's in the "state" property and take that into consideration when validating "familyType"? I know I can probably save the object to the session but would like to avoid any saving of state if possible.

• jQuery closing pop-up after successful form submit

  Hi, I have a pop up form that i wish to close on successfull submit of the form. Currently we are only validating on the server side which will create an unordered list of validation errors with the class .error_message. Once the form has been successfully submitted i want to close the window. • Conditional Validation with Paperclip difficult

  Hi, I have an "item", which goes through a multi-page creation process. Images are uploaded at step five, and I keep track of the steps by using the attribute "complete". When validating whether an image is attached with paperclip, I get problems using the code below: validates_attachment_presence :pic1, :if => Proc.new { |u| u.complete == "step5"} It seems that I can't access the "complete" attribute, as the active-record object seems to be the paperclip image. Is there a way for me to check at which point in the process I am and validate conditionally? Thanks, Michael

• Invalidating ASP.NET FormsAuthentication server side

  I am experimenting with FormsAuthentication (using ASP.NET MVC2) and it is working fairly well. However, one case I can't work out how to deal with is validating the user identity on the server to ensure it is still valid from the server's perspective. eg. User logs in ... gets a cookie/ticket Out of band the user is deleted on the server side User makes a new request to the server. HttpContext.User.Identity.Name is set to the deleted user. I can detect this fine, but what is the correct way to handle it? Calling FormsAuthentication.SignOut in the OnAuthorization on OnActionExecuting events is too late to affect the current request. Alternatively I would like to be able to calls FormsAuthentication.InvalidateUser(...) when the user is deleted (or database recreated) to invalidate all tickets for a given (or all) users. But I can't find an API to do this.

• Why is FxCop warning about an overflow (CA2233) in this C# code?

  I have the following function to get an int from a high-byte and a low-byte: public static int FromBytes(byte high, byte low) { return high * (byte.MaxValue + 1) + low; } When I analyze the assembly with FxCop, I get the following critical warning: CA2233: OperationsShouldNotOverflow Arithmetic operations should not be done without first validating the operands to prevent overflow. I can't see how this could possibly overflow, so I am just assuming FxCop is being overzealous. Am I missing something? And what steps could be taken to correct what I have (or at least make the FxCop warning go away!)?

  Hello, I'm validating a text field in my form as follows: $name = new Zend_Form_Element_Text('name'); $name->setLabel('First Name:') ->setRequired(true) ->addFilter(new Zend_Filter_StringTrim()) ->addValidator('regex',true,array('/^[(a-zA-Z0-9)]+$/')) ->addErrorMessage('Please enter a valid first name'); What I'm trying to accomplish is - how can i display a meaningful error message? Eg: If first name is 'XYZ-', how can i display '- is not allowed in first name.' Is there a way I can access what character the regex is failing for? Would you recommend something else altogether? I thought about writing a custom validator but the regex is pretty simple, so I don't see the point. I couldn't find a decent documentation for the zend 'regex' validator anywhere. If I don't override the default error message, I simple get something like : ';;;hhbhbhb' does not match against pattern '/^[(a-zA-Z0-9)]+$/' - which I obviously don't want to display to the user. I'd appreciate your inputs.

  Hello, Im using Eclipse Galileo and have installed Subclipse. I looked at the svn repo url at http://www.liferay.com/web/brian.chan/blog/-/blogs/changes-to-anonymous-access-to-liferay-s-svn and then tried to get Liferay from their SVN repository in Eclipse, using svn://svn.liferay.com/repos/public --username guest,but i get the following error message: Error validating location: "org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException:No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. svn: Cant connect to host 'svn.liferay.com':No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it Any way to fix this ?   I'm able to complete my iphone app using core data internally. But for the first time when I'm running in simulator or on device its crashing with following error: 2010-03-18 10:55:41.785 CrData[1605:4603] Unresolved error Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=513 UserInfo=0x50448d0 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 513.)", { NSUnderlyingException = Error validating url for store; } When I run the app again in simulator or on device, its running perfectly. I'm not able to identify the exact problem. Can some one guide me on how to proceed further???

• Detecting bad jpeg images

  The question on validating jpegs on network transfer is very helpful. Could we take this question one step further? What if the image data is incomplete or corrupt from the server? The complete transport works, the MIME type is image/jpeg, the UIImage is constructed and non-nil but the renderer discovers inconsistencies in the data and the log shows "Bad Huffman code" or "premature end of data segment" How would I capture this error before tossing the UIImage into the view context and thereby getting a not-pretty image on the screen? Could I render it to a non-screen context and capture the error?

• How to ignore/prevent javadoc folder from validation during Eclipse Build?

  In my war is a huge javadoc folder. There is no point in validating it since javadocs are produced by Sun(Oracle) javadoc utility. I have forgotten how I did it the last time. I need to tell Eclipse build not to validate that particular folder. Reasons why I need it: 1. the html produced by Sun javadoc generation utility does not meet the requirement that Eclipse uses - there is a bug report in Eclipse but Eclipse responds that Sun javadoc generator non-compliance is not their fault and that Eclipse intends to stick to their strict compliance. Which results in lots of html errors listed in the problems tab. 2. the javadoc folder is a remote link and high activity on that link is using up my cpu resource, and because it is a link to a remote location, that cpu high activity is sustained for long time until it finishes scanning the whole 35MB javadocs.   I have a endpoint mapping a webservice which is used to insert in the dabatabase some keywords: @Transactional(readOnly = false,isolation= Isolation.SERIALIZABLE) public Source saveKW(...). The input is a request. I would like to add an interceptor on the method in order to validate the parameters. this one will read some values from the DB. i would like that this interceptor is EMBED in the transaction declared for the endpoint (or this opposite). In other words, i want them to be in the same transaction. Ideally im looking for something like this with annotation: @Transactional(readOnly = false,isolation= Isolation.SERIALIZABLE) @validator("KeyWordValidaor.class") public Source saveKW(...) where KeyWordValidaor will be class validating the parameters. Have you any idea or short examples to implements this like this way or in a other real way?

• OOP Design Question - Where/When do you Validate properties?

  I have read a few books on OOP DDD/PoEAA/Gang of Four and none of them seem to cover the topic of validation - it seems to be always assumed that data is valid. I gather from the answers to this post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1651964/oop-design-question-validating-properties) that a client should only attempt to set a valid property value on a domain object. Do you have a 'validator method' alongside every getter and setter? isValidName() setName() getName() I seem to be missing some key basic knowledge about OOP data validation - can you point me to a book that covers this topic in detail? - ie. covering different types of validation / invariants/ handling feedback / to use Exceptions or not etc

• asp.net compare validators to allow comma and dot (both!) as decimal separator

  I am using a compare validator, which validates that the entered number is a valid double and also validates it against a given value (greater than zero). I am validating money amounts. Because of the location where the app is used, the locale sets the comma as the decimal separator. The problem is that when a user enters the value using the numeric keyboard, the number gets written with the dot as decimal separator, and is rejected by the validation. I'd like to have this validation done before triggering a postback (like a customvalidator would) and accepting both separators. Any ideas? Thanks

• Processing file uploads before object is saved

  I've got a model like this: class Talk(BaseModel): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) mp3 = models.FileField(upload_to = u'talks/', max_length=200) seconds = models.IntegerField(blank = True, null = True) I want to validate before saving that the uploaded file is an MP3, like this: def is_mp3(path_to_file): from mutagen.mp3 import MP3 audio = MP3(path_to_file) return not audio.info.sketchy Once I'm sure I've got an MP3, I want to save the length of the talk in the seconds attribute, like this: audio = MP3(path_to_file) self.seconds = audio.info.length The problem is, before saving, the uploaded file doesn't have a path (see this ticket, closed as wontfix), so I can't process the MP3. I'd like to raise a nice validation error so that ModelForms can display a helpful error ("You idiot, you didn't upload an MP3" or something). Any idea how I can go about accessing the file before it's saved? p.s. If anyone knows a better way of validating files are MP3s I'm all ears - I also want to be able to mess around with ID3 data (set the artist, album, title and probably album art, so I need it to be processable by mutagen).

• Adding a SVN repository in Eclipse

  I'm trying to add an svn repository to eclipse. I've installed subclipse, and it seems to be working fine. But, when I try to "add a new SVN repository", I input this, for example: http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk I get this: Error validating location: "org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException: RA layer request failed svn: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk': could not connect to server (http://svn.python.org) " Keep location anyway? I know that my eclipse can connect to the 'net because I downloaded subclipse earlier (I had to change my proxy settings). I get a similar message for other SVN locations I've tried to add. Anyone have any solutions?

  Hi there, I have a Django-project which was running fine, until I made "some changes" I don't remember exactly. Since that point, on every request, my project crashes silently: $ ./manage.py runserver -v2 Validating models... 0 errors found Django version 1.1.1, using settings 'src.settings' Development server is running at http://127.0.0.1:8000/ Quit the server with CONTROL-C. After I requested a page (admin oder frontend), it returns to the prompt. I did not find any other option to get verbose output than -v2 - is there any logfile I can use? I'm using Django 1.1.1 on a Mac OS X 10.6 with virtualenv, Python 2.6 Thanks a lot.

  I'm using SQL Server 2008 and I have a table with three columns: Length, StartTime and EndTime. I want to make a CHECK constraint on this table which says that: if Length == NULL then StartTime <> NULL and EndTime <> NULL else StartTime == NULL and EndTime == NULL I've begun to try things like this: Length == NULL AND StartTime <> NULL AND EndTime <> NULL Obviously this is not enough, but even this simple expression will not validate. I get the error: "Error validating 'CK_Test_Length_Or_Time'. Do you want to edit the constraint?" Any ideas on how to go about doing this?

• Prevent query string manipulation by adding a hash?

  To protect a web application from query string manipulation, I was considering adding a query string parameter to every url which stores a SHA1 hash of all the other query string parameters & values, then validating against the hash on every request. Does this method provide strong protection against user manipulation of query string values? Are there any other downsides/side-effects to doing this? I am not particularly concerned about the 'ugly' urls for this private web application. Url's will still be 'bookmarkable' as the hash will always be the same for the same query string arguments. This is an ASP.NET application.
