  • MySQL query for initial filling of order column

    Sorry for vague question title. I've got a table containing huge list of, say, products, belonging to different categories. There's a foreign key column indicating which category that particular product belongs to. I.e. in "bananas" row category might be 3 which indicates "fruits". Now I added additional column "order" which is for display order within that particular category. I need to do initial ordering. Since the list is big, I dont wanna change every row by hand. Is it possible to do with one or two queries? I dont care what initial order is as long as it starts with 1 and goes up. I cant do something like SET order = id because id counts from 1 up regardless of product category and order must start anew from 1 up for every different category.

IdCategory : bigint (FK) How do I recursively count all Questions for a given Category (including questions in subcategories).   • Write permission for a specific folder in web.config

    My question is preaty simple. Is there any way to give current user (IIS User, in this case, ASP NET USER) permission to write to a specific folder location (folder inside our web application) using web.config? Because, it's getting boring to ask to the web hoster to gain access to a specific folder each time we want to do a file uploader on a website. I know it's maybe preaty simple to find an answer using google, but it keeps returning me how to write INTO web.config instead of permission to write into web.config FOR a specific folder. In addition, I'm french so my english is not at the top.

    I have a web application , that helps download reports. But the report generation sometimes takes a lot of time, and the web request times out through the intermediate proxy server.(Timeout :90 secs). The workflow for downloading the report is straightforward. Client sends request to the web server. The web server generates the report , and makes it available to the client as an excel download. The excel is generated using POI and the download is provided using Spring's AbstractExcelView. What could be the best way to keep the web request alive(without increasing the timeout , of course) ?

    I have this hypotetical MySQL table: TABLE cars: (year, color, brand) How do I count # of cars grouped by brand and year? I mean, how can I get to know how many colors are there grouped by brand like: brand "GM": total # of colors: 8. brand "GM": total # of years (grouped together): 14 (meaning there are count of 14 different years). brand "TOYOTA": total # of colors: 3. brand "TOYOTA": total # of years (grouped together): 10 (meaning there are count of 14 different years) I tried playing some queries with COUNT, DISTINCT, GROUP BY but I can't get to it. There are 10-20 terminals which will use the desktop interface. 3 approaches for doing this that I have considered : Direct connection and operations on DB-Not using this because of data integrity and consistency issues.     I have a table that has 5,000(table1) lines in it. Currently, 3,000 of them are filled up with data. The remaining values are currently null. In a separate table(table2), I have the remaining 2,000 rows of data. I am simply trying to take the values in table2 and put them in table1, but this statement isn't working: Update table1 Set field1 = (Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) Where Exists(Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) It looks like this should be working, but I am getting an error from Base, the db program I am using that just says error Near " ": syntax error...any help??     I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start.   • Previewing php pages inside Expression Web 3 suddently stopped working

    On a Windows 7 development machine, I have expression web 3, PHP 5 installed I have been using expression web and PHP for a while, and previewing php pages etc on pressing F12 (preview using local server). Suddenly on F12 all PHP pages display as blank, even a phpinfo() file. Standard html pages continue to work correctly on F12. If I place the same page php inside the default website on inetpub and browse using localhost then the phpinfo() file works. So I know that php is installed and configured correctly for IIS. Things I've checked: Gone into site settings in Expression web and confirmed that php is selected and it is pointing to the php executable Reinstalled php Checked iis that the php extension is registered. Copied files to a different machine with expression web and php installed and it works on. The strange thing is that it gives a blank (no errors) page inside expression web, but does work inside inetpub This was working up until recently, then suddenly stopped for no reason.

    Hi everybody, I am kind of new to mySQL:s union functions, at least when doing inserts with them. I have gotten the following to work based upon a example found on the net: INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b) SELECT a, $var FROM tableOne WHERE b = $var2 UNION ALL SELECT $var,$var Ok, nothing strange about that. But what happens when I want to insert a third value into the database that has nothing to do with the logic of the Select being done? Like : INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b, c ) How could that be done?
