  • Whats the most efficient way to access another forms controls in .NET?

    - by broke
    I'm creating a reporting application, and our customers are going to need to generate some pretty big reports which require quite a bit of memory. Ive been in a re-factoring mood lately, so I was wondering what the best way to access the properties of another open form would be(The reporting viewer opens in a new form.) So far I have: Dim form As MainSelections form = My.Application.OpenForms(2) yay or nay. Thanks

  • What are the downside of not having an index.html file to some directories

    - by Pennf0lio
    Hi, I'm curious what are some effects/downside of not putting an index.html file to your directories (e.g images). I know when an index file is not present to a directory, files inside that directory are no longer private and will be visible to the browsers when point (eg yoursite.com/images/). Aside from that what are some big effects to consider? and how to properly secure them. thanks!

  • Collision free hash function for a specific data structure

    - by Max
    Is it possible to create collision free hash function for a data structure with specific properties. The datastructure is int[][][] It contains no duplicates The range of integers that are contained in it is defined. Let's say it's 0..1000, the maximal integer is definitely not greater than 10000. Big problem is that this hash function should also be very fast. Is there a way to create such a hash function? Maybe at run time depending on the integer range?

  • Is passing a struct value to a method by-reference in C# an acceptable optimization?

    - by Arc
    Say I have a struct: struct MyStruct { public int X public int Y } And a method in some class that is iterated over many times elsewhere: public bool MyMethod( MyStruct myStruct ) { return ... } Is changing the MyMethod signature to the following an acceptable optimization? public bool MyMethod( ref MyStruct myStruct ) If so, how much of an advantage would it really be? If not, about how many fields would a struct need for a big enough advantage using ref this way?

  • JavaScript: How do I create an Array into another Array?

    - by Timnkd
    I have the following JavaScript Array: var jsonArray = { 'homes' : [ { "home_id":"203", "price":"925", "sqft":"1100", "num_of_beds":"2", "num_of_baths":"2.0", }, { "home_id":"59", "price":"1425", "sqft":"1900", "num_of_beds":"4", "num_of_baths":"2.5", }, // ... (more homes) ... ]} I want to convert this in an Array like such (pseudo code): var newArray = new Array(); newArray.push(home_id's); How can I do that? Notice how the newArray only has home_ids from the big jsonArray array.

  • Preprocessor #if directive

    - by Caslav
    I am writing a big code and I don't want it all to be in my main.c so I wrote a .inc file that has IF-ELSE statement with function and I was wondering can it be written like this: #if var==1 process(int a) { printf("Result is: %d",2*a); } #else process(int a) { printf("Result is: %d",10*a); } #endif I tried to compile it but it gives me errors or in best case it just goes on the first function process without checking the var variable (it is set to 0).

  • What's the difference between C and C++

    - by Dinah
    I know that C++ has the concept of objects but C doesn't. I also know that pretty much all there is to know about C fits into K & R but the C++ library is vastly more complex. There have got to be other big differences though. What are the major differences between C and C++?

  • Mathematica + GraphPlot + GraphicsGrid with EdgeLabels

    - by Paxinum
    I had some very strange problems with GraphicsGrid. The individual PraphPlot:s looks nice and ok, but the code GraphicsGrid[{{GraphPlot[{{a -> b, "ab"}, {a -> c, "7"}}]}, {GraphPlot[{{a -> b, "5"}, {a -> c, "2"}}]}}] just produces 2 big clots of garbage. If I remove the edge labels, everything works as expected. I am using Mathematica 7.0.0.

  • What's the Erlang/Haskell job market like in the U.S.?

    - by Krystof
    I've heard that Telecoms are the big source of Erlang jobs but I'm not sure how much of a market there is. How likely is it that someone could find a job in Erlang/Haskell if they decided to learn it? In my case I have a lot of programming experience in Java but am tired of Java and want to try something different.
