I have 160 GB hardrive (sata or pata I don't know but it's slim and made in China) with a 40 GB ext3 partition, a 4GB swap memory and 3 other partition with a FAT32 file system. I have around 4GB space on my drive where Linux is installed. I'd like to keep the data intact, especially the Downloads folder, desktop, and /var/www; And I no longer have access to any other machines or external storage devices.

The idea is to have a system that detects intruders and then send a SMS to you while streaming it to a private website. The hard part: How and where do I storage the data from the camera so it's streamable? I think i can manage to do the streaming, website and SMS server, but i need the data (fundamentation).   • Ubuntu 10.04: boot error for custom compiled kernel - gave up waiting for root device

    I have installed lucid on my Lenevo Laptop (Y 410 series , x86 platform) and it is working fine. Now I have compiled kernel 2.6.37 downloaded from the kernel tree. I followed usual procedure of compiling kernel (make menuconfig, make, make modules etc). Then I created the initrd image using mkinitramfs and updated my grub using update-grub command. update-grub detects the initrd image of the compiled kernel. However when I boot from this kernel it gives me following error: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: -Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) -Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) -Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?) -Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! root=UUID=/... does not exist and then it falls onto initramfs prompt. I have tried following solutions discussed in different Ubuntu forums: disable uuid and point root=/dev/sda8 (sda8 is where my kernel image resides (both default kernel and compiled one) from /etc/default/grub compile kernel using CONFIG_DEVTMPFS=y suggested here Still I am unable to boot from the compile kernel. Could someone please suggest me the solution?

    hi, I'm having a problem with custom formatters in Drupal. I'm using a custom formatter on a CCK file file with the following content: but when I select it to use I get an internal server error: PHP has encountered an Access Violation at 16B357F9 Please note: 1) It sometimes worked, but the page becomes soon unavailable after a while 2) I've tried to replace the custom formatter content with a simple Hello and I get the error anyway, so it should not be related to the content. 3) I'm using another custom formatter with another CCK field and it doesn't give any error.     Which of the two methods of dta transfer trasfers data at a faster rate for smartphones and tablets? Standard WIFI, or MicroSD Cards? I wonder if it would be actually faster to access data on external storage then it would be to have the MicroSD card in my smartphone or tablet. Currently I have a class 10 32GB MicroSD card in my cell phone. I am looking to get the new Google Nexus tablet but it does not offer expandable internal storage. I wonder if that's really a detriment; because if WIFI is faster than MicroSD, then it would matter almost none at all that you couldn't expand the storage internally. If the case is that WIFI is faster, and people caught onto this, then people could save a lot of money on lower memory ipads/iphones/ipods, tablets, and smartphones!
