    I download a big file of .Net 3.5 SP1 from http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe Now when I try to install it on Windows Server 2012, I get the following screenshot: What the?? When will the microsoft learn? Now this is a loop. When I try to install from Server Manager, I get installation cannot be done. It needs installation disk. Does that mean I can't install at all without the installation disk in presence?

  • setting up ssh on minix 3.2

    I have install MINIX 3.20 on VMware player on LINUX. Now, I am trying to ssh into Minix from the same Linux machine, but I am encountering some problems. First I installed openssh on MINIx then I tried to ssh onto the Minix virtual machine with ssh [email protected] but I got the following output: [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive). I am sure the password I entered is correct, I have tried to ssh into MINIX on MINIX and it worked but not when I tried it from my linux machine. I have followed the steps for setting up ssh from this webpage, but it didn't work as shown above.

  • Google Chrome and Firefox Rendering

    When attempting to visit sites running javascript, Google Chrome and Firefox often fail to render them properly. For example, when hitting google.com/codesearch results, I just get a blank page. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8527/200910071518.png This rendering problem happens in both browsers on a machine running Windows XP Professional x64. Internet explorer is able to render the page just fine. Also, controls on other pages sometimes fail to respond, for example in Google Docs. Has anyone encountered this issue before in Chrome/Firefox? Do they share a common installation of the V8 javascript engine? I'm baffled by this issue.   • How to troubleshoot ping request time out [closed]

    I have a Windows 7 and an XP machine connected to a NETGEAR wireless router. Both machines can log into the network and surf the web. Both are connecting wirelessly. I can ping the router from each machine and get a reply. I can ping each machine from the router and get a reply. But i cannot ping each machine from the other; getting a request time out. Subnet IP Addresses are 192.168.1.* Router =1; Win7 = 10; XP = 11; Firewall is currently off in both systems. Since i can ping from router im picking that not the problem anyway. If i try to ping from xp to win7 i get Request Timed Out. If i try to ping from Win7 to Xp i get destination host unreachable. What should i do now? Thanks

  • Can't connect back to the wireless network after the password was changed

    Family changed the network password and some other network settings after new computers were brought into the house because apparently they wouldn't work with what we had. Actually an off-site tech remotely changed it, and I have no idea what he did. My laptop detects the network (it shows up under available networks) but whenever I try to connect it says: Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again. I wish I could give more details, config settings, but frankly I have no idea what I'm looking for. This is XP (also, not a password issue, I know the password, it's just that I have no idea where to enter it, etc.)

  • Macbook Pro 2.2ghz 2011 (OSX 10.6.7) problem with NTFS 3G

    I installed NTFS 3G but now get the following error message when I try to plug in my external drive. I also get it on startup about my Windows partition. Uninstall/ reinstall does not work. NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1at /volumes/freeagent GoFlex Drive because the following error occured: /library/filesystems/fuse.fs/support/fusefs.kext failed to load- (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/ kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8). The MacFUSE file system is not available (71) Any help would be great. I'd hope to avoid reinstalling OS X if possible!

  • weird SSH connection timed out

    This problem started when I tried to login to my brand spaning new VPS server. I remember that in my first SSH try on the server I actually got prompt for password several times which would mean that there is no port blocking problem from my isp. Since the password did'nt work for me (for some reason). I had a lot of authentication failure. After that attempting to log in to the server just timed out. I did the same at mediatemple (which used to work before with sftp) and put in wrong password and now trying to ssh (or even SFTP) gives me timeout error. So some kind of security feature is preventing me from trying too many times to log in, either from my side or from the server side. Any idea what it could be? TRaceroute and ping works on the ips.   • Recovering an old website

    I have a client with an old website that somebody setup for him long ago. The guy who set it up is unreachable, so how do we go about trying to take it over? A WHOIS lookup got us some contact information, but I don't have great hopes for that (it hasn't been update in quite some time). The nameservers are ns1.theplanet.com and ns2.theplanet.com, and we will try calling them, but I don't expect we'll be able to get much from them. What are our options? Is there a way I can discover the registrar so we can try contacting them as well? EDIT: It would be sufficient if we could get control of the domain name or put in some sort of redirect to the new site. Either hosting was prepaid for quite some time, or someone else is still paying for it, so we don't care about that.

  • Cannot boot NixOS Install CD

    I am trying to install NixOS on an Acer laptop. When I try to boot off of the install CD, the system starts up and shows the Acer logo. Then, the boot menu of the CD appears, but it only displays on the top left corner of the screen. The rest of the screen still shows the Acer logo. If I try to select "boot" from the menu, that area of the screen goes black, and nothing else happens. I tried adding "nomodeset" to the boot arguments, but that did not affect anything. Are there any other boot arguments or anything else that could fix this?

Here is the speech: All my users are standard users, they got a VirtualBox Hypervisor if they need the administrator rights. But if they put an USB device on the local machine and try to redirect the device to the Virtual Machine, Windows ask for some Administrator rights. I've try to set up those GPO: -Allow standard users to install drivers. -Install WHQL Drivers: Allow Silently. I don't know how to do this.

  • Drag and drop to attachments feature only working intermittently in Outlook 2010

    I've been trying to troubleshoot a problem with my Outlook 2010 install where the ability to drag and drop an attachment into a new email will stop working from time to time. It seems to be fairly moonphase-y in that I can't seem to find a correlation in what causes it to stop working. Some searching online lead me to try running this command through the windows run dialogue: Regsvr32 ole32.dll, which apparently re-registers that particular dll as a command component in the registry. It didn't work, but I was curious as to why it was a suggested fix, and if there was something similar to try that would work, or another known solution.

  • Circumventing a manual HTML login page for "unclassified" websites

    The IT department just made my life a little bit harder again: they introduced a manual HTML login page for all websites they have not "classified". This means that all the applications which try to access unclassified websites for e.g. downloading plugins do not work. Examples: Eclipse plugin installation, Maven builds etc. What would be the easiest workaround for this? The best I've come up with is try to extend/customize Ruby's httpproxy.rb that comes with Webrick. I would automate the manual login process whenever that login response page is detected. This sounds quite painful, and I think there might/should be simpler options?

    I used to access all my Windows XP shared files on my Mac using Finder -- Window -- Connect to server. Now all of a sudden, an error crops up when I try to connect. I get the error "There was a problem connecting to the server "192.168.1.*" The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your internet connection and then try again. How can I remove this error and access my shared files from my Mac? P.S my network connections is fine.

    Currently Im facing an issue when Im trying to connect any usb flash drive to my pc. ok, below is what happens to me: 1) I can connect usb keyboard and mouse without any issue. 2) however when i connect usb flash drive, there are 2 situations that are occuring randomly a) there is no usb drive mount in my computer, when device manager is checked, it shows error code 10, but is shown in disk management. b) my computer will have usb drive mounted, but when I click on it, it is empty. on right click the properties, the disk space show 0. (there are files within the usb) what i have done is: 1) run CCleaner to repair the registry, restart and try, but still not working. 2) uninstall the drive in device manager, restart and try, but still not working. 3) tried the port that connects mouse and keyboard, but does not work. anyone who experienced these problems before please guide me. any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Driver: HP OfficeJet 5600 Series Whenever I try to print, it fails while saying "connected to printer" or "Printer is busy...zill try again in X seconds" Both Windows 7 and Windows XP computers on the network can successfully access this printer, identifying it as "HP5610 on http://192.168.1.10:1631/" I tried clearing all tasks and printers (ctrl-click in the menu), and resetting it to (socket, http://192.168.1.10:1631/printers/HP5610, HP5600 series) but to no success.

    Any executable that I attempt to run on this laptop pops up an error stating The program can't start because LPK.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. I have tried doing regsvr32 lpk.dll from within system32, but that returns the error The module "lpk.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "lpk.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. I was able to copy the DLL file from a working computer, but I get the same issue. How would I go about registering this DLL? Or, alternatively, which program would I have to reinstall to get the DLL to work again? The system is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with Service Pack 1. I would really like not to reinstall the OS, but at this point, I'm about ready to.

I set the JAVA_HOME to be C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_06. But when I try to run the Activiti BPM by typing the following in windows 7 command line : C:\activiti-5.10\activiti-5.10\setup>ant demo.start, the Tomcat server will start and the demo will build successfully, but if I try to navigate to the following link http://localhost:8080/activiti-explorer I get the following error : HTTP Status 404 - /activiti-explorer type Status report message /activiti-explorer description The requested resource (/activiti-explorer) is not available.     Hi, I have a small home network with the router capable of running OpenWRT, is there some utility or firewall rule, which can be used to Wake On LAN on request. What I think - if I want to access my media centre (using for example SSH or HTTP) and it is suspended, is it possible to catch the ICMP packet (saying the machine is offline) and send the WOL packet to wakeup the machine and resend the SSH or HTTP request?   • How can I start an X11 session on my headless Fedora 13 server?

    I have a small home server using Fedora 13 as operating system. Since the upgrade to Fedora 13 I cannot start the X11 server. (I need it to use vnc) When I try to start the server, both the nouveau and the original NVIDIA driver claim that there's no physical monitor attached (which is true) and that the X server cannot start because the initial display modes cannot be probed. I tried to manually add the display modes to xorg.conf but they seem to be ignored. Some forums suggest to simply use the VESA driver in this situation, but since I can't get it run either (different, more obscure message) I want to get it working with the nouveau driver as a matter of principle. Temporarily attaching a monitor would mean a lot of work for me ( 1 hour and currently it's almost 35°C/95°F in my home) I want to try that only if that definitely fixes the problem and stays that way if I remove the monitor again) How can I make the driver work without having a physical monitor attached?
