  • Passing ASP.NET User by Dependency Injection

    In my web application I have various components that need to access the currently authenticated user (HttpContext.User). There are two obvious ways a component can access this: 1) Accessing getting the User from HttpContext.Current 2) Passing the user around in constructors Is not ideal because it makes testing difficult and ties application components to web concerns, when they really shouldn't know about it. Is just messy and complicates everything. So I've been thinking about passing in the current user (or perhaps just the name/id) to any component that needs it using an IoC container (via dependency injection). Is anyone using this technique to supply the current ASP.NET user to parts of the application? Or, Does this sound like a sensible approach? I would like know how this has worked out for people.   • Tips on how to notify a user of new features in your game

    I have noticed a problem when releasing new features for a game that I wrote for Android and published on Google Play Store. Because my game is "stage-based" - and not a game like Hay Day, for example, where users will just go into the game every day since it can't really be finished - my users are not aware of new features that I release for the game. For example, if I publish a new version of my game and it contains a couple new stages, most of their devices will just auto-update the game and they don't even notice this and think to check out what's new. So this is why an approach like popping open a dialog that showcases the new feature(s) when they open the game for the first time after the update was done is not really sufficient. I am looking for some tips on an approach that will draw my users back into the game and then they could read more detail about new features on such a dialog. I was thinking of something like a notification that tells them to check out the new features after an update is done but I am not sure if this is a good idea. Any suggestions to help me solve this problem would be awesome.

  • Read IFrame content using JavaScript

    Ok, This is my first time dealing seriously with IFrames and I cant seem to understand a few things: First the sample code I am testing with: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function init(){ console.log("IFrame content: " + window.frames['i1'].document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].innerHTML); } </script> </head> <body onload="init();"> <iframe name="i1" src="foo.txt"/> </body> the file "foo.txt" looks like this: sample text file Questions: 1) The iframe seems to be behaving as a HTML document and the file text is actually part of the body instead. Why ? Is it a rule for an IFrame to be a HTML document. Is it not possible for the content of an iframe to be just plain text ?? 2) The file content gets wrapped inside a pre tag for some reason. Why is this so ? Is it always the case? 3) My access method in the javascript is working but is there any other alternative? [native js solutions please] If the content is wrapped in a pre tag always then I will actually have to lookup inside the pre tag rather than lookup the innerHTML

  • Weird character at start of json content type

    Hi, I'm trying to return json content read from MySQL server. This is supposed to be easy but, there is a 'weird' character that keeps appearing at start of the content. I have two pages for returning content: kcb433.sytes.net/as/test.php?json=true&limit=6&input=d this test.php is from a script written by Timothy Groves, which converts an array to json output http://kcb433.sytes.net/k.php?k=4 this one is supposed to do the same I tried to validate it here jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com but just page 1 gets validated, page 2 says that it does not contain JSON data. If accessed directly both pages has no problems. Then what is the difference, why both don't get validated? Then I found this page jsonformat.com and tried the same thing. Page 1 was ok and page 2 wasn't but, surprisingly the data could be read. At a glance, {"a":"b"} may look good but there is a character in front. According to a hex editor online, this is the value of the string above (instead of 9 values, there are 10): -- 7B 22 61 22 3A 22 62 22 7D The code to echo json in page 2 is: header("Content-Type: application/json"); echo "{\"a\":\"b\"}";

  • Tons of problems a new user is encountering

    I've borrowed this laptop from a friend. I wanted to install AdBlock to boost performance. First weird thing was that even though I was on Chrome, Chrome suggested me installing him? So I tried to install ,than it gave me some message about broken dependencies. I Googled and tried to run those commands you guys were suggesting, but than it popped up error messages about everything again. Than I found out that some package called linux image generic is broken, than I tried to find an answer to that, but on the topic it was ” ndk.bhj\spo;ujvsdljvaEOYUFgidgAPIF;hsgvk in other words, I didn't understand anything about it, than there's this thing: E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it? Seriously, when I'm trying to fix an error, there is another one. I'm on something called GNOME. Sooo, where do I start?

  • novice user...firewall

    I've recently ditched windows 7 for Ubuntu 11.10 64bit... I'm a total novice and was wondering do I need to make any changes to the firewall?. I read somewhere that the built in firewall doesn't need touching...but a friend says he uses firestarter,I'd be really grateful if someone could advise me weather to just leave well alone or if I should make certain changes,I'll be doing a lot of web browsing and also proberly a bit of online banking to. Infact this is one of the reasons I've switched to Linux as I was told its much more secure than windows... I just want my comp to be setup in a way that I can access my bank account safely and not knowing what to do about the firewall or how to configure it is off putting... Also do I need an antivirus?..I know bitdefender and eset do a free Linux scanner but again I've heard there not really needed.   • How to add "most recent emails from this user" to Gmail inbox as a sidebar

    I use and love gmail. However, since i use email for customer support, I'm always doing a cross reference lookup via the search feature to see my past conversations with the person whose email I'm reading. I'd love to have a right sidebar widget that shows me, for any email I choose to read, the list of previous conversations/emails with that person. Is this possible? I'm using Chrome Ideally, this sidebar would bump or replace the contextual ads that now display over there.

  • Does Google crawl AJAX content?

    On the home page of my site I use JQuery's ajax function to pull down a list of recent activity of users. The recent activity is displayed on the page, and each line of the recent activity includes a link to the user profile of the user who did the activity. Will Google actually make the ajax call to pull down this info and use it in calculating page relevancy / link juice flow? I'm hoping that it does not because the user profile pages are not very Google index worthy, and I don't want all those links to the User profile pages diluting my home page's link juice flow away from other more important links.

The number is resetting by the way.

    I have two tables detail and head. The detail table will be written first. Later, the head table will be written. The head is a summary of the detail table. I would like to keep a reference from the detail to the head table. I have a solution but it is not elegant and requires duplicating the joins and filters that were used during summation. I am looking for a better solution. The below is an example of what I currently have. In this example, I have simplified the table structure. Does some notepad-like application exist that open such files and transform them to readable code/data ? Any more information which will clarify about these files will be very helpful.   • Datepicker BeforeShowDay CSS problem with content styling

    I think I'm not the only one having this problem. Whenever I try to apply a BeforeShowDay a new CSS class, the content of the "special date" is not being modified. I tried changing the default theme, adding a new class, but this is affecting only the outside border and not the inside content. Using Firebug I found that the html code being printed is the following: <td class=" ui-state-content ui-state-anulados" onclick="DP_jQuery.datepicker._selectDay('#datepicker',9,2009, this);return false;" title="Paddle"> <a class="ui-state-default" href="#">16</a> </td> So, my class would be ui-state-content ui-state-anulados but I notice that the ui-state-default class is being applied automatically and I suspect that this may be the problem. I really don't know how to solve this. I've been looking inside ui.datepicker.js code and I think I found the line that is giving me this problems. It is line number 1394 and it has the following code. (ui.datepicker.js) (unselectable ? '<span class="ui-state-default">' + printDate.getDate() + '</span>' : '<a class="ui-state-default' + Any clues on how this can be done? Thanks in advance. Manuel.-

  • V4L2 and ALSA: Kernel SPI or User API?

    I'm trying to understand what Video for linux and ALSA are (exactly), and I can't discern whether they're APIs for Linux application to use (the userspace) or if they are backend services that are only available to the Linux kernel (sort of a kernalspace SPI). Or, if they are something entirely different. On one hand, those articles make it sound like its an API for applications to use. However, on the V4L2 page it has a section title Software supporting Video4Linux... So is V4L2 a library that applications use, or is it a module that "snaps into" the kernel? I'm so coonfused, thanks in advance.

  • Getting Started in SuSE as an Ubuntu User

    I am not a Linux newbie, but haven't touched SuSE in a very very long time (last time I tried it, it was SuSE 7!). Finally now I felt like giving it a try, and many things seem strange or unnecessarily complex. I have a series of questions. How do I ensure that my packages are uptodate? It sounds silly, but I tried the obvious methods already. I have disabled the default repositories that show up when you do zypper lr, and added Tumbleweed and packman repositories (Essentials, Multimedia, Extra). Then I did a sudo zypper ref --force and then sudo zypper dup, and it tells me many dependencies are not met. I have already added solder.allowVendorChange=true to /etc/zypp/zypp.conf, so it should not care which repository the latest versions are in, and just upgrade to it. Even when I chose to skip the packages with unmet dependencies, and seemed like quite a bit happened in the background, I opened Firefox afterwards and the version was 7! I am guessing things did not go as expected. But of course this is not a problem with SuSE, but I am not understanding the system right. How do I do it right? When I start typing arguments of a command, for example sudo zypper install, when I type sudo zypper ins and keep hitting TAB, nothing happens! It always worked in Ubuntu and I feel very uneasy with this. Is this how SuSE is supposed to be? When I try to install something, and I start writing its name, even though the package exists and I am sure of it, hitting TAB does not autocomplete it. This is also quite inconvenient. Why is it not happening? There are many things in SuSE that are really great, and I think I will stay with it and not go back to Ubuntu once I settle these very rudimentary issues. But right now they are giving me a lot of grief! Please help!
