  • How to sync bookmarks across Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox bookmarks?

    - by ViliusK
    How to sync bookmarks across Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox bookmarks? As I, currently, understand, Google Chrome puts bookmarks seperatly from Google Bookmarks, which is accessible in Firefox by using Google Toolbar for Firefox. Right? So how should I synchronize my browsers? I use Google Chrome as my primary browser and it works good and bookmarks are synchronized across number of computers I'm using. Thanks, viliusk

  • I want to establish a TCP/IP connection over a UART connection (Windows XP/7)

    - by michael
    I want to connect two computer via serial but for each to see each other via a TCP/IP connection. Ie, create new ethernet ports on the computers that are in actual fact serial ports. The reason for this is that I am actually testing the medium in which the serial connection is made (wireless), and part of the experiment will be to use TCP/IP. Preferably I would use something that I can configure (max packet size and setting serial delimiters).

I would like the categories to be in the url such as something like this http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Component_Frameworks/NET/Chats_and_Forums/ as you can see in the above url the categories are in the url itself. How can I develop something like this in asp.net mvc?

  • Best Method For Storing Values

    - by Josh streit
    Basically, I want to have a database that's lightweight and I won't need to install a million other things on my clients computers for them to access this. I just need a simple method of reading and writing values so that they're not hardcoded into the program. I could do MySQL (which is what I'm very familiar with), but it doesn't need to be making calls remotely. I would have less than 10 fields and one table, if that matters. Thanks!

  • Layman's book for understanding computer networks

    - by srid
    The good thing about books targeting a layman is that it is usually very engaging to read (not dry and boring like, say, school/university books). Charles Petzold's Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software does this for explaining the underlying hardware in computers. Is there a similar book for understanding computer networking?

  • using win32 api in linux ?

    - by Dr Deo
    I have heard of WINE but I don't like it because it's slow on the computers I have tested and almost always crashes. It also has some unpleasant looking gui. I am wondering if there is a "win32" library in c/c++ for linux that produces native linux code so that if I have my source code for windows, I can just recompile and produce a working linux application. Is this possible?

  • Opening txt files in Internet Explorer 8 parses some html

    - by Rob
    I'm not sure if it's just me, but whenever I open .txt files in internet explorer, it always parses the HTML, so forms, buttons, fields all show up. It does this on multiple computers, and I'm fairly sure it hasn't always done this. I know FireFox doesn't, FireFox loads it as a text file. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, have you solved it? If so again, how?

  • How to use JavaScript to measure how bright a users monitor is ?

    - by HankV
    I've noticed that the brightness of computer monitors drastically varies between computers. As such, this changes the look of web pages greatly. Is there a way to use JavaScript to automatically detect how bright (or dark) a users monitor is so that I can adjust my web page colors accordingly? UPDATE Please note that I do not want manual user involvement. I want this detection to be automatic so that users don't realize I dynamically change the color palette automatically based on the brightness/darkness of their monitor.

  • remote desktop computer viewer?

    - by Josh
    I would like to install a quad core computer in my dorm at college and use my much slower laptop to be able to control the quad core just as if I had a quad core laptop (control as in i see the gui, not command line control)! Both are on the same college network, though Im also interested in what would be necessary if the computers were on different networks. What would be the best method fot this? Im looking for non-lag communication.

  • Remote XP -> Win98 WMI Connection

    - by Logan Young
    I've asked this on Technet, but because Win98 is no longer supported, I can't get any decent information, I was hoping there might be some "old school" developers here who might be able to help me. There is an application that we use a lot at work. This application should run 8am-5pm with as little interruption as possible. Most of the computers where this application runs are using Win98, and we have no way to upgrade them because we can't buy new hardware at the moment. My computer is running WinXP, so I thought of a way to make sure that this application runs all the time: The idea I had was to develop a Windows Service that executes a VBScript file that contains a WMI query to get a list of processes from each computer. Each list is then examined, and, depending on whether or not the target application is running, it will either do nothing, or it will execute another VBScript file that contains a WMI query that will be used to start the target application remotely. I later found a way to do this all with 1 VBScript file (see code below) My problem is in the remote connection to the target computers. I've installed WMI Core 1.5 on them, but every time I try the remote connection, I get the following: The remote server is unavailable or does not exist: 'GetObject' VBScript runtime error 800A01CE I've done some research, and all I've found is info about DCOM Config and Windows Firewall, but Win98 doesn't have either of these. ' #### Variables and constants #### Const HIDDEN_WINDOW = 12 Dim T ' #### End Variables and constants #### Main() Sub Main() ' #### Get Process information from WMI Computer = "." Set WMI = GetObject("winmgmts:" & _ "{ImpersonationLevel=Impersonate}!\\" & Computer & "\root\cimv2") Set Settings = WMI.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_Process") For Each Process In Settings ' #### If the application is found to be running, set a value to indicate this If Process.Name = "NOTEPAD.EXE" Then T = True End If Next ' #### T will only have a value if the application is not running. We therefore ' #### evaluate it to determine if it has a value or not. If not, start the application If Not T Then 'MsgBox("Application not found.") Set Startup = WMI.Get("Win32_ProcessStartup") Set Config = Startup.SpawnInstance_ Config.ShowWindow = HIDDEN_WINDOW Set Process = GetObject("winmgmts:root\cimv2:Win32_Process") errReturn = Process.Create(_ "C:\Windows\notepad.exe", null, Config, intProcessID) End If End Sub This uses WMI to get the list of processes from the local computer and, if the target application is running, it'll do nothing, otherwise it'll forcefully start the target application. The problem is that this works only if I specify the local comuter, if I target another computer, I get the error mentioned above. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Python inter-computer communication.

    - by matt1024
    This whole topic is way out of my depth, so forgive my imprecise question, but I have two computers both connected to one LAN. What I want is to be able to communicate one string between the two, by running a python script on the first (the host) where the string will originate, and a second on the client computer to retrieve the string. What is the most efficient way for an inexperienced programmer like me to achieve this?

  • My winform application doesn't work on others' pc without vs 2010 installed

    - by wings
    Just like I said, my winform application works properly on computers with VS installed, but on other computers, it will crash due to a FileNotFound Exception. I used using Application = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application; in my source code to generate a Excel file, and the problem occurs as soon as the Excel-related function is called. But I don't know what it refers to exactly. Do I have to get some .dll included along with the .exe file? And what DLL is that? Below are part of my codes: private void FileExport(object objTable) { StartWaiting(); string[,] table = null; try { table = (string[,])objTable; } catch (Exception ex) { ShowStatus(ex.Message, StatusType.Warning); } if (table == null) { return; } Application excelApp = new Application { DisplayAlerts = false }; Workbooks workbooks = excelApp.Workbooks; Workbook workbook = workbooks.Add(XlWBATemplate.xlWBATWorksheet); Worksheet worksheet = (Worksheet)workbook.Worksheets[1]; worksheet.Name = "TABLE"; for (int i = 0; i < table.GetLength(0); i++) { for (int j = 0; j < table.GetLength(1); j++) { worksheet.Cells[i + 1, j + 1] = table[i, j]; } } Range range = excelApp.Range["A1", "H1"]; range.Merge(); range.Font.Bold = true; range.Font.Size = 15; range.RowHeight = 50; range.EntireRow.AutoFit(); range = excelApp.Range["A2", "H8"]; range.Font.Size = 11; range = excelApp.Range["A1", "H8"]; range.NumberFormatLocal = "@"; range.RowHeight = 300; range.ColumnWidth = 50; range.HorizontalAlignment = XlHAlign.xlHAlignCenter; range.VerticalAlignment = XlVAlign.xlVAlignCenter; range.EntireRow.AutoFit(); range.EntireColumn.AutoFit(); worksheet.UsedRange.Borders.LineStyle = 1; Invoke(new MainThreadInvokerDelegate(SaveAs), new object[] { worksheet, workbook, excelApp } ); EndWaiting(); }
