  • php edit database entery script not working.

    I have two files which show all contats in a database, then edits them. The second script keeps directing the browser back due to this part.   • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!) I have it being able to update one table but the other table is just not having it.   • Programmers and Database Professionals in Performance Based Companies

    Anybody here work for a company (or know of someone that does) in the fields of programming or anything related to DBs and not have set work hours? Where you are paid for performance rather than how many hours you sit in a chair at the office? Any project / company I have been apart of always has pretty strict primary hours with the "great opportunity" / expectation to stay until the job is done. Is this type of flexibility really feasible in a group environment in these fields? Would pay for performance work within a company in these fields? With having strict primary hours I notice a lot of inefficiencies. Some weeks or days there is only so much that can be done (for whatever the reason may be) and if your work is done it doesn't help moral to force someone to stay for 8 hrs/day or 40hrs/week if the next week they may have to pull a 60+hr work week. I know that a lot of flexibility can come from working independently or as a consultant so this question really does not encompass those types of positions.

  • WPA2 authentication fails using USB network devices (Linksys and Rosewill)

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. Tried the same with a Linksys USB network adapter. Both failed to authenticate. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)     I'm writing a program for a company that will generate a daily report for them. All of the data that they use for this report is stored in a local SQLite database. For this report, the utilize pretty much every bit of the information in the database. So currently, when I query the datbase, I retrieve everything, and store the information in lists.     I have been unable to find any documentation on properly closing database connections in WCF service operations. I have a service that returns a streamed response through the following method. public virtual Message GetData() { string sqlString = BuildSqlString(); SqlConnection conn = Utils.GetConnection(); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sqlString, conn); XmlReader xr = cmd.ExecuteXmlReader(); Message msg = Message.CreateMessage( OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageVersion, GetResponseAction(), xr); return msg; } I cannot close the connection within the method or the streaming of the response message will be terminated. Since control returns to the WCF system after the completion of that method, I don't know how I can close that connection afterwards. Any suggestions or pointers to additional documentation would be appreciated. Dan

    I was just reading this article and it mentions that some organization had an Ontology as(?) their database(?) layer, and that the decision to do this was bad. Problem is I hadn't heard about this before, so I can't understand why it's bad. So I tried googling about databases and ontology, and came about quite a few pdfs from 2006 that we're full of incomprehensible content (for my mind). I read a few of these and at this point still have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. My current impression is that it was some crazy fad of 2006 that some academics were trying to sell us, but failed miserably due to the wording of their ideas. But I'm still curious if anyone actually knows what this is actually all about.

  • No SQLCompact Edition Support IN VS 2013

    Firstly apologies if this is a poor question - I am an engineer not a programmer. I have spent time moving from Visual Basic to C#. I have started C#/SQL tutorials. I have noticed VS 2013 has stopped supporting the compact edition database normally used for standalone desktop apps. Somebody has kindly written a plugin to re-implement support. I have also noticed a belief circulating that SQLite is to replace the compact edition. Would anybody be able to advise if this was accurate - I am slightly confused as to which database is best suited for desktop app development inside VS 2013. Any comment greatly appreciated.     I'm making a program that will post data to a database, and I've run into a pattern that I'm sure is familiar: A short table of most-likely (very strongly likely) fixed values that serve as an enum. So suppose the following table called Status: Status Id Description -------------- 0 Unprocessed 1 Pending 2 Processed 3 Error In my program I need to determine a status Id for another table, or possibly update a record with a new status Id. I could hardcode the status Id's in an enum and hope no one ever changes the database. Or I could pre-fetch the values based on the description (thus hardcoding that instead). What would be the correct approach to keep these two, enum and table, synced?

    I have k csv files (5 csv files for example), each file has m fields which produce a key and n values. I need to produce a single csv file with aggregated data. I'm looking for the most efficient solution for this problem, speed mainly. I don't think by the way that we will have memory issues. Also I would like to know if hashing is really a good solution because we will have to use 64 bit hashing solution to reduce the chance for a collision to less than 1% (we are having around 30000000 rows per aggregation). For example file 1: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,50,60,70,80 a3,b2,c4,60,60,80,90 file 2: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,30,50,90,40 a3,b2,c4,30,70,50,90 result: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,80,110,160,120 a3,b2,c4,90,130,130,180 algorithm that we thought until now: hashing (using concurentHashTable) merge sorting the files DB: using mysql or hadoop or redis. The solution needs to be able to handle Huge amount of data (each file more than two million rows) a better example: file 1 country,city,peopleNum england,london,1000000 england,coventry,500000 file 2: country,city,peopleNum england,london,500000 england,coventry,500000 england,manchester,500000 merged file: country,city,peopleNum england,london,1500000 england,coventry,1000000 england,manchester,500000 The key is: country,city. This is just an example, my real key is of size 6 and the data columns are of size 8 - total of 14 columns. We would like that the solution will be the fastest in regard of data processing.
