  • How to implement parent-child windows and pass values from child to parent?

    I am working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 application. In one of my data entry forms, I have an "employer" field which has a "search" link next to it. When a user clicks on this link, another window is opened with a search form. The user uses the search form to search for the correct employer. A list of employers is shown to the user. Currently, the user has to then copy and paste the correct employer from the child window into the original window. I want to implement it so that each employer search result in the child window is a hyperlink. The user would then click on the correct employer and then the correct employer value would be populated in the original parent window employer field. How would I go about implementing this in ASP.NET MVC 2?

The problem is that when this page posts back via some event on the page, I never get these tags in the Request.Form collection. Is this simply how ASP.NET works (e.g. only server-side control post back) or am I missing something simple. My understanding was that a postback should bring back all the form variables.

    Given the following query: (field:value1 OR field:value2 OR field:value3 OR ... OR field:value50) Can this be broken down into something less verbose? Basically I have hundreds of category IDs, and I need to search for items under large groups of category IDs (20-50 at a time). In MySQL, I'd just use field IN(value1, value2, value3) rather than (field = value1 OR field = value2 etc...). Is there a simpler way for Solr/Lucene?

    Hello everyone, I am writing a text-based Scrabble implementation for a college project. The specification states that the user's position input must be read from single line, like this: Coordinates of the word's first letter and orientation (<A – P> <1 – 15> <H ou V>): G 5 H G 5 H is the user's input for that particular example. The order, as shown, must be char int char. What is the best way to read the user's input? cin >> row >> column >> orientation will cause crashes if the user screws up. A getline and a subsequent string parser are a valid solution, but represent a bit of work. Is there another, better, way to do this, that I am missing? Thanks for your time!

Is there a way I could "preserve" $data across shell calls? The idea is that I read the XML file only once. If no, is there is a more simple way I could do this?     Preamble: I know, disabling warnings is not a good idea. Anyway, I have a technical question about this. Using GCC 3.3.6, I get the following warning: choosing ... over ... because conversion sequence for the argument is better. Now, I want to disable this warning as described in gcc warning options by providing an argument like -Wno-theNameOfTheWarning But I don't know the name of the warning. How can I find out the name of the option that disables this warning? I am not able to fix the warning, because it occurs in a header of an external library that can not be changed.     I'm using Xcode 3.2.6, MacOSX. I have a globally visible environment setting: ICU_SRC=~/Documents/icu/source This really is an environment setting, it's set at login time. When I open up Terminal, it's there. In my project, under Header Search Paths I've added this: $(ICU_SRC)/i18n $(ICU_SRC)/common These expand correctly when I compile inside the IDE. When I look at the build results, I see this: -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/i18n -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/common When I build from the command line, however, it fails. What I see is this: -I/i18n -I/common Here's the command I'm using to compile: /usr/bin/env -i xcodebuild -project my_project.xcodeproj -target "my_program" -configuration Release -sdk macosx10.6 build What am I doing wrong?     How do you explicitly request fx forwards as outrights using the bloomberg API? In the Bloomberg terminal you can choose whether to get FX Forwards as absolute rates (outrights) or as offsets from Spots (Points) by doing XDF, hitting 7, then the option is about half way down. 0 means outrights, and 1 means offfsets. With most defaults you can explicitly set them in the API, so your code gives the same result whichever computer you run on. How do you set this one in a V3 API query?

  • Is it possible to replace values in a queryset before sending it to your template?

    Hi Guys, Wondering if it's possible to change a value returned from a queryset before sending it off to the template. Say for example you have a bunch of records Date | Time | Description 10/05/2010 | 13:30 | Testing... etc... However, based on the day of the week the time may change. However this is static. For example on a monday the time is ALWAYS 15:00. Now you could add another table to configure special cases but to me it seems overkill, as this is a rule. How would you replace that value before sending it to the template? I thought about using the new if tags (if day=1), but this is more of business logic rather then presentation. Tested this in a custom template tag def render(self, context): result = self.model._default_manager.filter(from_date__lte=self.now).filter(to_date__gte=self.now) if self.day == 4: result = result.exclude(type__exact=2).order_by('time') else: result = result.order_by('type') result[0].time = '23:23:23' context[self.varname] = result return '' However it still displays the results from the DB, is this some how related to 'lazy' evaluation of templates? Thanks! Update Responding to comments below: It's not stored wrong in the DB, its stored Correctly However there is a small side case where the value needs to change. So for example I have a From Date & To date, my query checks if todays date is between those. Now with this they could setup a from date - to date for an entire year, and the special cases (like mondays as an example) is taken care off. However if you want to store in the DB you would have to capture several more records to cater for the side case. I.e you would be capturing the same information just to cater for that 1 day when the time changes. (And the time always changes on the same day, and is always the same)

    On my registration script i have: // Save registration information into the database // Set sessions $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); Then on my login script i have: // Check if user provided correct login credentials if (correct) { $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; } header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); What happened is that the session variables were lost after the header redirect in the registration script but they were preserved after the redirect in the login script. I've checked session_id() at both pages and they have the same value, included session_start() at the top of every page and basically tried the solutions to this common problem found on Stackoverflow but somehow nothing seemed to work. I'm beginning to wonder if it is something to do with my server configuration instead of my code.

    I have a table of Users and a one to many UserSkills table. I need to be able to search for users based on skills. This query takes a list of desired skills and searches for users who have those skills. I want to sort the users based on the number of desired skills they posses. So if a users only has 1 of 3 desired skills he will be further down the list than the user who has 3 of 3 desired skills.     I'm making a page where the user gets a javascript slider that goes from 0 to 100 and can use it to set the opacity of a div on the page. I want the opacity of that div to change in real-time as they work the slider. I've not done this before. What's the best approach? There cursor in the slider displays the slider's current value as you move it. It seems to be that I just need to find a way to display that value in any arbitrary other place on the page so I can display it in the style settings for the div. The .js file that generates the slider has a line that (I think) is setting the current value in the cursor: $(this).children(".ui-slider-handle", context).html(parseInt(settings[index]['default'])); TO get this changing number to display somewhere else at the same time, do I just need to add a div somewhere and then add a line like this? $("#newDivId").children(".ui-slider-handle", context).html(parseInt(settings[index]['default'])); That seems like it would give me the number showing up in a div. How then would I get it into a form I could put into the style settings for a div? If this was a php variable, I would do something like this, style="opacity:<?php print $value ?>;" What would be the .js equivalent?

    I always see people debating whether or not to use a property's setter in the -init method. I don't know enough about the Objective-C language yet to have an opinion one way or the other. With that said, lately I've been sticking to ivars exclusively. It seems cleaner in a way. I don't know. I digress. Anyway, here's my problem … Say we have a class called Dude with an interface that looks like this: @interface Dude : NSObject { @private NSUInteger _numberOfGirlfriends; } @property (nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger numberOfGirlfriends; @end And an implementation that looks like this: @implementation Dude - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { _numberOfGirlfriends = 0; } } @end Now let's say I want to extend Dude. My subclass will be called Playa. And since a playa should have mad girlfriends, when Playa gets initialized, I don't want him to start with 0; I want him to have 10. Here's Playa.m: @implementation Playa - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { // Attempting to set the ivar directly will result in the compiler saying, // "Instance variable `_numberOfGirlfriends` is private." // _numberOfGirlfriends = 10; <- Can't do this. // Thus, the only way to set it is with the mutator: self.numberOfGirlfriends = 10; // Or: [self setNumberOfGirlfriends:10]; } } @end So what's a Objective-C newcomer to do? Sidenote: The other thing that bugs me about setting the ivar directly — and what a lot of ivar-proponents say is a "plus" — is that there are no KVC notifications. A lot of times, I want the KVC magic to happen. 50% of my setters end in [self setNeedsDisplay:YES], so without the notification, my UI doesn't update unless I remember to manually add -setNeedsDisplay. That's a bad example, but the point stands. I utilize KVC all over the place, so without notifications, things can act wonky. Anyway, any info is much appreciated. Thanks!
