• Can I create a collection in Scala that uses different equals/hashCode/compare implementations?

  I'm looking for as simple way to create an identity set. I just want to be able to keep track of whether or not I've "seen" a particular object while traversing a graph. I can't use a regular Set because Set uses "==" (the equals method in Scala) to compare elements. What I want is a Set that uses "eq." Is there any way to create a Set in Scala that uses some application-specified method for testing equality rather than calling equals on the set elements? I looked for some kind of "wrapEquals" method that I could override but did not find it. I know that I could use Java's IdentityHashMap, but I'm looking for something more general-purpose. Another idea I had was to just wrap each set element in another object that implements equals in terms of eq, but it's wasteful to generate tons of new objects just to get a new equals implementation. • Determine if a day of week and time fall in a custom weekend period

  I've been trying to come up with a method, that given a day of week and time of day, it will return if it falls under a custom weekend period. The weekend period is saved in 4 variables as follows: The day of week when it starts (0-6) The time of day when it starts (0-23) The day of week when it ends (0-6) The time of day when it ends (0-23) Based on these fields, the weekend period can be anything the user selected (even if it is well beyond a regular weekend) I've been banging this one for awhile but to no avail. I'm trying this in delphi but any language will do, as I'm looking for the algorithm and not the implementation.

  I need to separate natural, coherent text/sentences in emails from lists, signatures, greetings and so on before further processing. example: Hi tom, last monday we did bla bla, lore Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisici elit, sed eiusmod tempor incidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. list item 2 list item 3 list item 3 Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquid x ea commodi consequat. • Implementing Multitasking on an iPhone/iOS4 Web App

  I am looking to build a web app that implements background audio and fast app switching. These features work out of the box, when run as regular Safari web pages, but as soon as you add the web-app-capable tag, and try to run in full screen mode, this functionality breaks. I did some testing and even the most basic web app will reload every time when you switch back to it. And seeing as it's a web app, we can't exactly implement the multitasking API. Has anyone found a work around? This isn't a deal-breaker, as you can just avoid full screen mode, but then you also lose the ability to use your own icon in the app switch tray. Perhaps this explains a lack of full screen mode in YouTube's new web app....

• Hibernate criteria with projection not performing query for @OneToMany mapping

  I have a domain object, Expense, that has a field called initialFields. It's annotated as so: @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.EAGER, cascade = { CascadeType.ALL }, orphanRemoval = true) @JoinTable(blah blah) private final List<Field> initialFields; Now I'm trying to use Projections in order to only pull certain fields for performance reasons, but when doing so the initialFields field is always null. It's the only OneToMany field and the only field I am trying to retrieve with the projection that is behaving this way. If I use a regular HQL query initialFields is populated appropriately, but of course I can't limit the fields. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

• How can I export images from SQL Server to a file on disk?

  I have a User table that has all of their avatars saved in an image field. I'd like to just take that out of the database and store it as a regular file on disk. I looked around and saw some code for textcopy, but that doesn't seem to be on my machine for some reason. Here is the code I wrote up anyway. Anyone know a way to get this done?   I'm trying to solve a variant of the dot game with dynamic programming. The regular dot game is played with a line of dots. Each player takes either one or two dots at their respective end of the line and the person who is left with no dots to take wins. In this version of the game, each dot has a different value. Each player takes alternate turns and takes either dot at either end of the line. I want to come up with a way to use dynamic programming to find the max amount that the first player is guaranteed to win. I'm having problems grasping my head around this and trying to write a recurrence for the solution. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

• In Sinatra, best way to serve iPhone layout vs. normal layout?

  I'm writing a Sinatra app which needs to render different layouts based on whether the user is using an iPhone or a regular browser. I can detect the browser type using Rack-Mobile-Detect but I'm not sure of the best way to tell Sinatra which layout to use. Also, I have a feeling that how I choose to do this may also break page caching. Is that true?   i have some html files as part of a regular website that has been ported over to asp.net mvc. • Regex for Searching for Text Not Preceeded By a Specific String

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

• Why can't untrusted code change the log level under Java Logging?

  I'm have a Java app that also runs as an applet. The app also happens to use a library called BasicPlayer to play .ogg files. BasicPlayer has a built-in logger that uses Apache Logging Commons to create a logger for BasicPlayer.class using the built-in Java logger. The only way that I know about to turn off the BasicPlayer logging is to run this code: Logger.getLogger(BasicPlayer.class.getName()).setLevel(Level.OFF); This works fine when running as a regular app. However, when running as an applet, this code will throw a SecurityException because for some reason applets can't change the log level of non-anonymous loggers (see here for a sorta-explanation). Why would they do this? Who cares if an applet changes the log level?

  We are trying to remove the global.asax from our many web applications in favor of HttpModules that are in a common code base. This works really well for many application events such as BeginRequest and PostAuthentication, but there is no Application Start event exposed in the HttpModule. I can think of a couple of smelly ways to overcome this deficit. • Selenium not finding LiveValidation text.

  I am using the Selenium IDE to test some of my web development. I am using the JQuery LiveValidation in my code. I have an input box with some javascript behind it that will do a regular expresson and either ouput "OK" or "Error" next to the input text box based on what the user has entered. For some reason when testing with selenium the LiveValidation will not get triggered no matter what I do and therefore I can not test it. When I do it manually it works great. Has anyone run into this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

  I want to know the width of an NSString displayed on the screen in pixels. So I can fit an NSTextField its bounds to be exactly the length of the string itself. So I used IB's "Label" NSTextField and for those who don't know what I mean, I got a label with title "Label", font "Lucida Grande 13px", not selectable, not editable, regular size, no background and according to IB its width is 38px wide. If I want to get its width programatically I use [@"Label" sizeWithAttributes: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject: [NSFont fontWithName: @"Lucida Grande" size: 13] forKey: NSFontAttributeName]].width Which will give me 33.293457 . So that's about 5 px of the real width..

  I have a script that parses the filenames of TV episodes (show.name.s01e02.avi for example), grabs the episode name (from the www.thetvdb.com API) and automatically renames them into something nicer (Show Name - [01x02].avi) The script works fine, that is until you try and use it on files that have Unicode show-names (something I never really thought about, since all the files I have are English, so mostly pretty-much all fall within [a-zA-Z0-9'\-]) How can I allow the regular expressions to match accented characters and the likes? • Suggestion for creating custom sound recognition software to toggle audio

  I need to develop a program that toggles a particular audio track on or off when it recognizes a parrot scream or screech. The software would need to recognize a particular range of sounds and allow some variations in the range (as a parrot likely won't replicate its sreeches EXACTLY each time). Example: Bird screeches, no audio. Bird stops screeching for five seconds, audio track praising the bird plays. Regular chattering needs to be ignored completely, as it is not to be discouraged. I've heard of java libraries that have speech recognition with dictionaries built in, but the software would need to be taught the particular sounds that my particular parrot makes - not words or any random bird sound. In addition as I mentioned above, it would need to allow for slight variation in the sound, as the screech will likely never be 100% identical to the recorded version. What would be the best way to go about this/what language should I look into?

  Greetings all, I need help combining some htaccess rewrites, these crazy regular expressions screw with my head. So I have a folder structure something like this: /www/mysite.com/page/member/friends.php /www/mysite.com/page/video/videos.php /www/mysite.com/page/messages/inbox.php The URLs get rewritten to this: mysite.com/member/friends.php mysite.com/video/videos.php mysite.com/messages/inbox.php (Notice the /page/ folder is hidden in the url, but I keep it on the server for better file organization) The rewrite rules look something like this: (I'm new so correct me if they are flawed) RewriteRule ^video/(.*)$ /page/video/$1 [NC] RewriteRule ^member/(.*)$ /page/member/$1 [NC] RewriteRule ^messages/(.*)$ /page/messages/$1 [NC] Now, I also need to do a completely different rewrite to a file called lobby.php inside of the member folder: After the original rewrites, a sample url looks like: mysite.com/member/lobby.php?member=pws5068 I need a new rewrite to make it look like this: mysite.com/pws5068 Thank you for bearing with my super-long question here. How can I make this happen?

  I'm wondering how other programmers are backing up changes that are not under source control yet, be it new files or modified ones. I'm mostly referring to medium size jobs - hardly worth the effort of making a private branch, but taking more than a day to complete. This is not a vendor-specific question - I'd like to see if various products have different solutions to the problem. I'd appreciate answers referring to SVN and distributed SCCs, though. I'm mostly wondering about that latters (Mercurial, GIT etc.) - it's great that you have your own local repo, but do you back it up on a regular basis along with your source files? Note - I'm not asking about a general backup strategy. For that, we have IT. I'm seeking the best way to keep locally modified stuff backed-up before they are checked back into the main repo.

  I'm trying to validate that the fields given to sphinx are valid, but I'm having difficulty. Imagine that valid fields are cat, mouse, dog, puppy. Valid searches would then be: @cat search terms @(cat) search terms @(cat, dog) search term @cat searchterm1 @dog searchterm2 @(cat, dog) searchterm1 @mouse searchterm2 So, I want to use a regular expression to find terms such as cat, dog, mouse in the above examples, and check them against a list of valid terms. Thus, a query such as: @(goat) Would produce an error because goat is not a valid term. I've gotten so that I can find simple queries such as @cat with this regex: (?:@)([^( ]*) But I can't figure out how to find the rest. I'm using python & django, for what that's worth.

  Hi guys! I need some help with user settings mechanism for my Yii-based application. I've created the following db structure to store user settings: table user with the following fields id | username | email | etc. table settingslist (to store a list of all possible settings with descriptions) with the following fields id | code | name | description table settings (to store all user settings) with the following fields id | userid | settingslistcode | value Now I'm stuck with the form which allows user to change his settings. I had to deal before with the regular models (i.e. for posts, comments, etc.) where every new model had only one row in the database (Post model - id | title | body |) with the certain amount of attributes (fields of the table). But now I need to store user settings in 10-15 rows and I don't know how to apply Yii model mechanism to work with this, so I can retrieve those settings in a single form (so user could change his preferences). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
