  • Read variable-length records from a buffer - weird memory issues

    Hi, I'm trying to implement an i/o intensive quicksort (C++ qsort) on a very large dataset. In the interests of speed, I'd like to read in a chunk of data at a time into a buffer and then use qsort to sort it inside the buffer. (I am currently working with text files but would like to move to binary soon.) However, my data is composed of variable-length records, and qsort needs to be told the length of the record in order to sort. Is there any way to standardize this? The only thing I could think of was rather convoluted: my program currently reads from the buffer until it hits a linefeed character ('10' in ascii), transferring each character over to another array. When it finds a linefeed (the delimiter in the input file), it fills the number of spaces remaining in the buffer for that record (record size is set to 30) with null characters. This way, I should end up with a buffer full of fixed-size records to give qsort. I know there are several problems with my approach, one being that it's just clumsy, another that the record size might conceivably be larger than 30, but is generally much less. Is there a better way of doing this? As well, my current code doesn't even work. When I debug it, it seems to be transferring characters from one buffer to the other, but when I try to print out the buffer, it contains only the first record. I have made a basic event system wherebye each Blocks::Event has a list of handlers and when the event is fired the methods are called.   • In Oracle 10g, how do I see tables in schemes other than system

    In the hr schema there's a table emloyees, I can query data from it specifying it implicitly SELECT count(*) FROM hr.employees while logged in as system, but when I navigate to Home-Object Browser in the browser I can't see the table employees and other tables in other schemas. Can I manage tables in schemas other than system while logged in as system? Maybe there's some setting which enables me to group tables by schema. My Oracle Database version is 10.2.0.1 Express Edition. IIRC I could see all tables in Oracle Database 10.1.x.y. Thanks.

  • Is Eclipse Remote System Explorer broken on Windows?

    I have the following setup on Windows 7 Ultimate x64: Eclipse Indigo 2.7.2 (Build: M20120208-0800) Remote System Explorer 3.3.2 (see screenshot) (Oracle/Sun) Java 1.6 Update 31 (x86) Despite all my best efforts I am unable to connect to a remote system (a Centos 5.6 server on my local LAN) using a Remote System Explorer SSH connection - I've tried both password authentication and using my SSH private key. Here is a screenshot of both the Eclipse error dialogue and what is logged in my /var/log/secure log file: /var/log/secure: Apr 1 12:00:21 nagios sshd[6176]: Received disconnect from 172.16.3.88: 3: com.jcraft.jsch.JSchException: Auth fail When I connect for the first time I do get prompted to verify the authenticity of the remote host and the RSA key fingerprint. But that's as far as things go. Performing the same operation with the same credentials on my Fedora Core 16 box (also running the same version of Eclipse and Java) to the same server is successful. This leads me to believe that RSE SSH support on Windows is either broken or there's some piece of the SSH-on-Windows puzzle I'm missing. Is this the case?

  • java runtime tracing library to replace system.out.println

    Have you heard of any library which would allow me to set up a tracing for specific methods at runtime? Instead of adding (and removing) lots of System.out.println in my code (and having to re-compile and re-deploy) I would like to have a magic thing which would print out a line for each call of selected method without any change in the code. This would work without re-compiling, so some kind of JVM agent (or some non-standard JVM would be needed?). Sounds like a job for aspect programming? A typical scenario would be to start an application, configure the traced methods dynamically (in a separate file or similar) and then everytime a selected method is called a line with its name (and arguments) is printed out to System.out (or some log file). Naturally one could think of tens of additional features, but this basic set would be a great tool. BTW, I use Eclipse interactive debugger too, not only the System.out tracing technique, but both have some advantages and sometimes Eclipse is not enough.

  • Shortening jQuery Code by Replacing Variable

    I have a form with a bunch of dropdown options that I'm dressing up by allowing the option to be selected by clicking links and (in the future, images) instead of using the actual dropdown. There are a lot of dropdowns and most all will repeat the same basic idea, and some will literally repeat just with different variables. Here's the HTML for one of those. <tr class="box1"> <td> <select id="cimy_uef_7"> <option value="Boy">Boy</option> <option value="Girl">Girl</option> </select> </td> </tr> Then the corresponding fancier links to click that will select the corresponding option in the dropdown. <div id="genderBox1"> <div class="gender"><a class="boy" href="">Boy</a></div> <div class="gender"><a class="girl" href="">Girl</a></div> </div> So, when you click the link "Boy" it will select the corresponding dropdown value "Boy" There are going to be multiple Box#, so I can just repeat the jQuery each time with the new variables, but there's surely a shorter way. This is my best idea for shortening this code, as I'm still very much a beginner at jQuery, but I'm positive there are much better ideas out there, so feel free to recommend a better path if you see it :)

    Hi, I'm building a chat system for a company and I'm wondering as to what the best way to build the system would be? The current setup we have is a Nginx HTTP Server with PHP and Memcacheq (as a message queue that appends the chat messages to the user's own queue). We then poll the Nginx server (through a Comet style request) and query the message queue for updates. Is it a good idea to use a message queue such as Memcacheq to handle a chat system that has both user-to-user and site-wide chat or is it best to just stick to MySQL? Thanks!

    Naming things well is arguably Job 1 for professional programmers. Yet we have all suffered from some bad naming choices from time to time. So just to vent a little, what are some doozies that you may have run across? Just to get things started: One of our original developers wasn't sure what to call a secondary key - on what turned out to be a primary table for this app - so he called it: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs. Unfortunately this system generates entity mappings from the XML, and attributes defined there result in classes, methods, and constants that are referenced through-out the app. To this day it is very hard to find a source file that does not reference this, er, thing! So far I have looked at Umbraco, which looks good but the help is poor and the getting started video section is empty, and dotnetnuke, which again looks good but I get the impression its aimed at non developers, plus to has much more than I need and want. In my last job I created a basic custom CMS system that worked by simply adding values into the database, the application called the text from there. it worked fine but I don’t have the source code. what I'm after is a simple CMS system that really just controls text and images, I dont need all the fancy stuff thats in umbraco and dotnetnuke, all the design and CSS i can do myself. also as im working with MVC (which is awesome, and such a breath of fresh air compared to the web forms/telerik crap I have to put up with at work) it needs to be compatible. The system is expected to be a web site, and 3 kinds of people could use the web site to submit request, accept request, monitor status of specific stuff transportation, etc. The web site is more like an open agency or a workflow system.     I've a problem that number of Handles in my app is continuously growing. I did the debugging and recognize that this is caused by System.Threading.Thread class which is used for some routine. To simplify the debugging I’ve created a sample .NET application: ... private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Thread t = new Thread(DoWork); t.Start(); } public void DoWork(object parameter) { // Do something... } ... Each time I’m clicking the button, a thread is created using System.Threading.Thread class. The problem is that looks like the thread do not frees Handles because each click cause number of Handles growing by ~5. The question is: how can I manually free all Handles created by System.Threading.Thread class? Thanks in advance.

  • Monitor and Terminate Python script based on system resource use

    What is the "right" or "best" way to monitor the system resources a python script is using and terminate it if the resource use exceeds some predetermined values. In my case memory usage is of concern. I am not asking how to measure the system resource use although I am open to suggestions. As a simple example, let's assume I have a function that finds prime numbers less than some large number and adds them to a list based on some condition. I don't know ahead of time how many prime numbers will satisfy the condition so I what to be sure to terminate the function if I use up to much system memory (8gb lets say). I know that there are ways to monitor the size of python objects. What I don't know is the proper way to monitor the size of the list and exit is to just include a size test in the prime function loop and exit if it exceeds 8gb or if there is an "external" way to monitor and exit.

    hi all. i have a System.Drawing.Point[] filled with some System.Drawing.Point's. so when i want to draw this points as a polygon in a System.Windows.Form instance , the final drawn polygon is not all in the screen or sometimes is very small (in screen shown as 2-3 pixel). i wonder if there is some Library that using that i can just send Point[] to that and thatself scales and ... points and draws polygon manner that all points shown in screen and they are scaled to fit the screen (i mean small objects that shown as 2-3 pixel scale up to fit entire screen); thaks all and sorry for my bad english...

He told me to use this method as a constructor. Which I did: CCard::CCard() { m_Sperre = false; m_Guthaben = rand() % 1000; /* Work */ /* Convert them */ ssPIN >> m_Geheimzahl; ssBN >> m_Nummer; } All variables with m_ are member variables. However, the constructor works when I initialize the card normally CCard card(); at the start of the program. However, I also have a function, that is supposed to create a new card and return it to the user, this function is now broken. The original command: card = newCard(); isn't available anymore, and card = new CCard(); doesn't work. What other options do I have? I have a feeling using the constructor won't work, and that I probably should just create a class method newCard, but I want to see if it is somehow at all possible to do it the way the teacher wanted. This is creating a lot of headaches for me. I told the teacher that this is a stupid idea and not everything has to be classed in OOP. He has since told me that Java or C# don't allow code outside of classes, which sounds a little incredible. Not sure that you can do this in C++, especially when templated functions exist, or generic algorithms. Is it true that this would be bad code for OOP in C++ if I didn't force it into a class?

    I'm trying to set up a simple example project in BizTalk that gets changes made to a table in a SQL Server db and updates a copy of that table in an Oracle db. On the SQL Server side, I have a stored proc named GetItemChanges() that returns a variable number of records. On the Oracle side, I have a stored proc named Update_Item_Region_Table() designed to take a table of records as a parameter so that it can process all the records returned from GetItemChanges() in one call. For the Oracle procedure, I specified a path for the GeneratedUserTypesAssemblyFilePath parameter to generate a DLL to contain the definition of the data types. In the Send Port on the server, I put the path to that Types DLL in the UserAssembliesLoadPath parameter. I created a map to translate the GetItemChanges() schema to the Update_Item_Region_Table() schema. When I run it the data is extracted and transformed fine but causes an exception trying to pass the data to the Oracle proc: *The adapter failed to transmit message going to send port "WcfSendPort_OracleDBBinding_HOST_DATA_Procedure_Custom" with URL "oracledb://dvotst/". It will be retransmitted after the retry interval specified for this Send Port. Details:"System.InvalidOperationException: Custom type mapping for 'HOST_DATA.TBL_OF_REC' is not specified or is invalid.* So it is apparently not getting the information about the custom data type TBL_OF_REC into the Types DLL. Any tips on how to make this work?

    I want to extend the System.Web.UI.Page-class with some extra stuff. In the ctor I need the value of a session-variable.   • Missing System.Core.dll and others on Visual Studio 2010 Project targeting 3.5 Framework

    I just got Visual Studio 2010 installed and running on my development machine (alongside VS 2008). The first thing I did was make a copy of an existing project and convert it up to the VS 2010 project. I told the conversion wizard to leave the project targeting the 3.5 framework. The project compiles and runs just fine in VS 2008. When I go to build it, several of my references are marked as missing (System.Core, System.Xml.Linq, System.Data.DataSetExtensions). When I go to the Add Reference dialog, they are not present. Yet if I view the GAC at C:\Windows\Assembly, I can see the entries there. I have tried converting the projects to 4.0, then back down to 3.5, and also unloading/reloading the projects. Nothing works. Has anyone else ran across this problem?
